Have An EGO 56-Volt Battery? You Will Want This! EGO Nexus Escape Power Inverter PAD1500

  • EGO Power Inverter
    EGO makes awesome outdoor power equipment that most of us use all summer and if you have a snowblower you can use the batteries in the winter. EGO Power+ released a new Nexus Power Inverter that allows us to get some use out of the 56-Volt batteries in the times we are not using them for work. This new power inverter is designed to help you power items in AC 120-Volt under 150 watts. So it will power many consumer items up to a 40" TV. Another way of thinking about that would be that it will power most consumer items that do not make heat. A coffee pot is not something this will power. There are also two USB ports that are 5-volt and will provide a combined power of 4.2 amps.
    The estimated cost of this inverter is around $75, but that could change.
    Our Uses
    We have used this inverter for powering TV's, fans, charging phones, charging drone batteries and also keeping our camera equipment fully charged while on the road. The uses are endless especially if you are an outdoors person who likes to have power with them. Other items that this could be used for is WiFi when the power goes out, small pumps, and LED lighting.
    There is little sense to owning these batteries and leaving them to sit during the week. This inverter allows the investment to be used and the potential of the platform to keep evolving and moving forward.
    We are looking forward to a fuel gauge on the battery and larger items like this to come in the future!

      That is a good idea, and one that I considered submitting to them also, but I don't think the cells inside these battery packs are designed to put out the large amounts of current needed to start vehicles. The batteries that are inside the jump-starting boxes for example, while having far LESS overall (watt-hour) power capacity, have the ability to deliver very large burst of power all at once. These EGO batteries are designed for a bit less momentary output current, but much longer overall runtimes. 👍

    I have one and it's fine for lamps, fans, etc. Maximum 3.3 amps out, 400 watts. My small 5.8 cu.ft. freeze trips it upon compressor start up. The 3.3 amps is a limiting factor, I wish it was 10 amps out.

    I would love to see a furnace using an Ego battery as a backup battery. My Lennox SLP98V uses an ECM fan and inducer so it can run from 35-100% in 1% increments. It seems like it could have an emergency mode that runs at a lower level from a battery. I don’t think this inverter would work as is because the igniter draws a lot of amps when the furnace starts.

    At its price point $115ish-amazon, it’s pretty useless. If it was $30-40 that be different. To charge small devices or power A light or A fan there are better alternatives. Ego has created a much bigger model, however, it’s much much bigger and comes with an astronomical price tag. Ego needs to make a practical 1000 watt, 15 amp model at the $100 price point. They can keep this baby one but it needs to have a economical price.

    They need an adapter just like this that you can clip on your belt or harness to your back with a 4ft / 56V cable that plugs into it
    . . . then plugs your 56V tool . . . instead of having to swing all that weight in your hand(s) . . .e.g. trimmer, edger. pole saw etc. The overall weight of the tool itself is discouraging but what really turns a lot of customers off from buying for sure is the combined weight of the tool and the battery . . . too much. Nice accessory, unfortunately it just doesn't offer much power. It's a shame because these EGO+ batteries can put out series wattage! Take the smallest 2.5Ah battery for example. It has14 cells in series that are capable of 20A discharge. At a conservative 10A discharge rate, that's 56V * 10A = 560W of continuous power! Even with 80% inverter efficiency that is 450W available from the smallest battery. The 7.5 Ah battery (56V * 10A * 3P * 80% = 1344W) approaches the wattage of a 115V 15A (1440 max permissible) residential outlet, and can probably put out twice that for short bursts.

    Nice for consumers and burns the cells down more quickly to make us purchase more expensive batteries from EGO. What's cool though is they use industry standard cells so you can repair the batteries yourself. Love EGO and their products, just an observation.

    • @ksong1496
      @ksong1496 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you can repair EGO cells like other battery packs.
      While EGO uses the same cells as others, cells are 'wrapped' in some kind of stuff that they said help cooling by state changing or whatever.
      EGO batteries tend to output more power maybe due to better cooling. So if you just put bare cells, most likely they will overheat easily and don't last very long.

    • @ImaITman
      @ImaITman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ksong1496 the 7.5 ah doesn't use state changing to cool the cells because the load is distributed better across the cells lacking a need for the extra cooling. Batteries use a standard samasung cell that's replaceable.

    • @ksong1496
      @ksong1496 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean 2.5 and 5Ah ones have that but 7.5 ones don't? That's something I didn't realize. Well, come to think of that, I only saw 2.5Ah ones and didn't see 7.5Ah ones.
      If that's the case, then 7.5Ah ones might be more repairable than lower capacity ones.

    There is something that needs to be said. Ego batteries are very expensive and fail too quick. I have 3 Ego batteries and 7 Sthil batteries that are easly 2 years older than the Ego. 2 of the Ego batteries are nearly useless and all of the Sthil batteries are going well. I have a couple of thousand dollars worth of Ego stuff and now I am in a real tricky situation on what to do next?

    Power just went out. I plugged in a common house fan (ego inverter).... the fan ran for 5 seconds and stopped. Now, the power is back on, I plug that fan into an outlet....it is broken. I then get a similar fan, plug THAT into the EGO and now THAT fan is broken. I felt that, surely, these weak ass fans wouldn't stress the battery.... but why would it BREAK the fan? Do these cheap fans have a fuse or something? Just don't know, by what mechanism, this would literally ruin a simple fan.

    I don't know. I am a little disappointed with Ego. The cut quality on my 21" is so-so at best. I have the powerhead system and have been waiting for new attachments and nothing..... They did come out with their hedge trimmer attachment for the powerhead but why? They already had 2 models of hedge trimmers available and both are cheaper than the one for the powerhead! I sent them an email over a year saying I'd really love a 30" mower that ran on two batts, they come out with a 21" that takes 2 batts, once again who the hell asked for that? I now have 3x 7.5ah batts it's not hard to swap a battery out, in fact, it's easier than having to go get a gas can and refueling an ICE mower.
    I want to see a power rake/ sweeper attachment for the powerhead not to mention maybe a mini snow blower attachment for doing my sidewalks and steps. A bed edge shaper for the powerhead would be super sweet.

      John, creating small equipment that operate at the power levels we're talking about on electricity isn't easy to do. So my guess is they gave us the 21" dual battery with upgraded 1200 watt motor to see how out in the real world with their customer base how their new engineering works. Once it's proofed by their customers we'll see larger walk behinds. I have zero issues out of my 21" 1000 watt single battery and as far as I know they're not looking to create push mowers that are bush hogs so it only makes sense that we are the guinea pigs to see how it does. You have to think too with the way battery cell technology works having a 1200 watt mower using two batteries versus one means you get peak performance for way longer. If you just have one battery drawing power it can only distribute that load across the cells so much before it has to throttle down due to thermals. Now Ego has done a GREAT job with increasing that deficiency in lithium ion technology, however load balancing across 2 batteries makes that efficiency leaps and bounds better. So long story short my 1000 watt mower isn't capable of running at 1000 watts for Nearly as long as that 1200 watt is capable of running at 1200 watts (because of the dual batteries). This tells me that something larger is coming and that platform is a test to see how the newly engineered power system works with the current mower body.

    • @thebigdoghimself
      @thebigdoghimself 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You and I most likely have the same mower. There have been times when I completely blow off cutting the backyard until it gets ridiculous. The ego has never had a problem cutting through even 10" grass. I just don't see a huge market for the double battery unit unless you are shooting towards the commercial market or towards people with larger lawns. However, in both situations, the dual battery unit is a fail. Neither commercial nor large lot residential customers are not going to want a 21" plus they are not selling the mower with dual 7.5's only the 5ah batts. Secondly, the price point of the mower is way out of line when compared to the Toro mowers which are the industry standard for quality of cut (not to mention the Toro mowers are available in wide cut models). I predict that the dual battery 21" mower will be discontinued by the end of 2019 due to poor sales.
