The men in the comments who keep saying they don't care are just looking for validation because they gave up. There's a big difference between not caring and giving up.
Yep, this is the one thing I wished I had learned when I was 15. You be you...and don't worry about ANYONE else. That's what costs $$$ and tears, and makes people stupid.
While not caring about what others think is good, caring about yourself is important. It’s like your yard, do you “stop caring” and just let the dandelions take over??
@@eddieg6436 Subtle difference tho...i take care of myself for ME, and not for anyone else (except my wife). That's the point. People are way too narcissistic nowadays, and social media has made it infinitely worse.
I agree totally. A few years ago it was jeans - oldies shouldn't wear them...who says?? Take no notice. Wear what you feel you look good in and what fits your guild and body properly.
Oh yeah, you hit it...and I feel exactly the opposite...as you mature you gain 'license'. After you retire from a work situation that requires a dress code, formal or just simply 'understood'...To heck with it, I have gone to pull overs, shorts and casual shoes...got ride of almost all the rest...I now have to go look and see if I have anything other than a pair of 'dress sweat pants' lol.
Frankly, as long as you don't look totally ridiculous, you have the option to wear what ever you have discovered over the years suits you best. Something else to consider: when I was 40 one of the things we didn't have were easy care fabrics and fashions that looked casual and cool. Clothes were tighter and always needed ironing. Fly buttons were outlawed by Levi jeans for some stupid reason so we were stuck with zippers only; imagine that now! At 70, I make a point of always wearing what I like and look best in. I shave my face regularly, keep my own hair short because I think it suits me that way and take care of my body both with food I eat and exercise I take. I've been told in the past that jeans are a no-no for a person my age. I don't wear them much but when I do I team them with stuff that looks good and doesn't make me look stupid. Bottom line: I wear what I want and you should too when you reach my age.
do a few things that make you a little dangerous...... learn to box, take a little krav maga it will help you to gain confidence and carry yourself different. Don't run around looking like someone can knock you over with a feather or that you are an extreme pushover.......I don't mean become a roid rage barbarian..... and don't ever pick fights with anyone..... just try and portray some physical confidence..... Not to offend the the OP but dude you look like you can get destroyed with one punch.......and I have no idea......you could be james bond...or a jiu jitsu black belt......but it doesn't come off that way.
I find this sad and exhausting. Running through this content is a theme of worshiping youthfulness, deception, and a preoccupation with what other people think of you.
My Rule: Be yourself.. Forget 'youthful'..Forget 'old'..FORGET what's in or out...Classic..never goes out of style.. Wear what you like..Dress how you like. I do.
@Davidson I agree!...Good point!.. I always studied what worked and didn't..from the old guys in TV and the movies...Grant, Hamilton, Wagner, sometimes Tony Franciosa, Delon, others, etc.. I started doing that as I went into my teens...and after a while it just became natural to me.. Like learning everything else. I never followed any current fads.. You can still look at any of those old guys in films or pictures..and if they were around and walked into a room...They'd ALWAYS look classy, and right. No matter what they wore..
...I'm 4 years off 70, from an era where rock and roll determines what I wear, not this square dude and his take on what guys need to wear. I get away with it all the time.
@@carrrexx7190 hahaha, well how does John dress these days? I need to know because it's guys like him that influenced people like me. Hendrix more than Jagger, Perry more than Tyler, Lynott more than Lemmy, and Bonamassa more than Page. Redefining sartorial relevance for the baby boomer generation has nothing to do with current male fashions, instead it is about a mindset that pays homage to an age when rock icons defined what was cool and what wasn't. I pray that the baby boomers who worshipped these icons, will never lose sight of what they and others like them achieved, and that what they currently wear will always in some way reflect their individuality and rebelliousness.
Recently I made some lifestyle changes after realizing I had really let myself go over the last few years. I've also started paying attention to what guys are wearing that I think looks good and makes them look good too. I'm still learning (at fifty, LOL) to figure out the perfect combination of style and comfort, but I agree with everything in this video. I always wore New Balance and Nike athletic shoes, and when I started wearing clothes that fit me better, one of my friends at work took me aside and told me the shoes were too clunky looking and I needed to look into slimmer shoes. I took his advice and quickly learned he was right. And there are so many comfortable but fashionable casual shoes out there. Macy's sells slim dress pants that fit nicely and look nice. And my biggest change was wearing shirts that actually fit me instead of defaulting to overly baggy shirts that made me look 30 pounds bigger. If you're not interested in looking good, why are you watching a video like this in the first place? There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable. Be who you are. But if you do want to look more stylish, I would definitely take this video's advice. Slimmer shoes, pants that aren't too baggy or skin tight (and honestly, I think that rule applies regardless of your age; I've never been attracted to guys who wear spandex or oversized pants), shirts that fit and look good on you without being uncomfortable (that's been more of a learning curve for me, as some of the shirts that look good on me tend to ride too high in the armpits and aren't comfortable). In the end, this video is aimed at guys that want to look fashionable and (yes, I'm going to say it) age-appropriate. That's not a bad thing. Don't knock the video because it wasn't aimed at you. But I will say this as a gay man, and I'm pretty sure most women would agree: I tend to notice men who dress sharp more than men who don't, regardless of what they look like. Clothes really do make the man.
@@johnsalazard6659 i think is a blend of both; i agree that it is more important to be a well educated person, full of attitude and self respect instead of a well dressed one, but the truth is that people tend to treat you different when you look the part; i'm 45, workout everyday not because i want to look younger, but because i really like it, but the thing is that when you dress and look nice, people treat you better; it's not right but it is the way of the world, sadly
Great video. So many guys don’t consider using a tailor to get the best possible fit. Check your local supermarket notice board or classified adverts for someone working from home. You can make a $80 suit look like a $300 version by spending $20 for adjustments.
Not necessarily. I'm 63, very athletic & very muscular. Having the classic V taper body makes it almost impossible to buy off the rack. I usually have to tailor shirts & pants and or shop higher end stores. Clothes shopping isn't easy for my body type.
There are some men that are in their 50s and 60s, that look way younger, not because of clothes they wear. But because they took care of themselves, along with some good genes. What you do to your body, when you’re young shows up, real fast. Treat your body. Mind and soul, like a Temple.
Spot-on, sis!... I'm almost 65, and can still wear the same size in slacks and shirts I wore 40 years ago. 'Not saying that mine are, but even the best of genes need maintenance and not being abused.
What you say makes sense and it truly works. I have changed my style to more your way of thinking and all my friends noticed. I am 68 and dress now in that smart casual look with the colours that complement each other and it makes me feel more confident when out and about. I am slowly changing my wardrobe but keeping it within the boundaries. Mike
I'm 62, been retired 3 years now, and the mistake I made was wearing what I like (jeans and tshirts) and needed to up my game. I consciously wear "nicer" clothes now to look like I care about how I look and the response from my wife and others has been great! If you're wearing sweat pants everyday you've just given up.
I've see men wearing cloth to tight or baggie because of their weight. Staying in shape makes cloths look better on a body no mater the stile. Look at the person on the video his shirt fits him well it's not stretched out or baggie. Just my observation.
At 67 I'm well past being concerned about looking "youthful". I wear Merrill outdoor shoes which go with almost anything, keep my clothing color-combo within reason, grooming standards up, and like most men around my age, I need to exercise more and eat smaller portions. I gave up drinking Scotch on a regular basis and eventually lost 30 pounds. Keep your sweet tooth in check as well. Skip some deserts completely and go easy on your favorites.
I would recommend that you do change the way you dress when you get older. You change the way you think, look, what you do, your friends, your job, views and 1000 things more. Why wouldn’t you mature out of your youth clothes as well?
Same here, when I was a kid my dad said poor people wear jeans so you will wear dress pants. When I left home I wore jeans from then on for 2 reasons, 1 they were the most comfortable thing I could wear, and 2, jeans are so durable they are almost bullet proof, I don't really care what fashion says because like most things now days every thing has an agenda. I've never been the kind of person that "worries" about what people think about me and I really don't give a *hit anyway. I like my jeans to fit but being 5 ft 7, it seems that the child labor making my jeans cannot read a tape measure because my inseam length is 30 inches but when I buy jeans I can't get anything shorter than 29 inches and they are still too long. I prefer a polo shirt but most likely will wear a T-Shirt but never a white one. I've been dressing myself for 65 years and like most people I'm a person of habit. I've never had anyone tell me that I should be arrested by the fashion police. It's really very simple I don't dress to catch someone's attention, I dress for my comfort. With people covering themselves with tats and coloring their hair 5 or 6 different colors, when I was a child, I got a lot of attention from my parents so I don't really want to do something to get people to look at me. I'd prefer it if they didn't look at me. I'm 68 years old, just leave me alone and go *uck yourself. The problem today is too many people are worried about what other people think of them, me? I don't give a *uck .
I once complained to a sales clerk in a Banana Republic store about being unable to find slacks that fit me. She was very nice, but also very direct in telling me that i needed to shop where they sold "Dad" slacks that would fit my type of body better. Embarrassing, but she was right. At 66 I was in the wrong shop.
Depends on your marital status. If you are single and looking, go for it but don't complain if you aren't finding anyone. A 40+ year old bachelor wearing the latest Millennial fashion may not even get a date because the younger women are laughing at you and the older women well are laughing at you. It's like that guy who is trying so hard to cover his bald spot with a fly over. Shave it off.
I have hit 51 now but very slim and weigh 8 and half stone.I have been guilty of wearing football shirts and distressed jeans in the illusion of thinking i could still pass for twenty something.I have addressed it by giving all that stuff to charity and bought myself some good clothes that are right for my age.Enjoyed your video.
@chachi mogo I'm 55 also and I can tell you that when Michael S. and I were growing up EVERYONE was a lot less uptight about nudity. Wearing a speedo did NOT imply you were gay. Locker rooms? They're for changing, showers, steam baths, saunas, and hot tubs ... You're SUPPOSED to be naked there. Oh, and doing the 'towel dance' simply draws attention to yourself. It announces to the locker room that you have a small dick and are trying to hide it. Last thing: The guys you see in the locker room probably all own dicks themselves. Guys all know that dicks have minds of their own. Dicks grow, shrink, get hard, & get soft all on their own and they do NOT ask permission first, lol.
I’m gonna be 37 next month and my wardrobe has definitely changed these last 2 years. I do believe in wearing whatever you want but at the same time I don’t wanna wear a lot of the same things I wore when I first turned 30. I do a lot of my shopping lately at J.Crew, Banana Republic, and also some Target and Marshall’s. I invest in quality pieces instead of cheaper made things. Which is why I can shop at better places now. I’ll purchase a very nice fitting shirt from one of the places above for 40 bucks instead of buying 5 shirts at Walmart for 40 bucks that don’t fit me very well. Another thing that I’ve picked up is tailoring my own clothes. That’s helped out a lot. Thanks for the video. I’m very happy to say that I don’t do any of hose things in your video. Lol!
You are right some don't give a dam how they look, and I don't either.I care how I look,California has some of the worst dressed folks I have ever seen.
@@krane15 My wedding invitations specifically said to be yourself. I hang/ have hung out with royalty, Ambassadors, government folks and even an international terroist/ all kinds of characters. I am always myself. One of my old neighbors told me she didn't have anything fancy to wear to my wedding. I asked her if she read the invitation? I told her I don't care what you wear; I just want you there to share the moment with me. Foljs were comfortable and had a great time. Funerals, I'll dress up if I didn't really know the person. But if it was someone I knew well, I go as I am. That's the way they would have wanted it; their family, too.
I'm 41 and I look 31 because I invest into my image heavily. Clothes are important but your face and body are way more important. Take care of those and your clothes will look better and you'll have more confidence to wear cooler clothes
I agree, I am almost 49 and workout and cycle about 5x per week. I knew my babyface would help me when I got older and it has. Most people I meet are shocked when I tell them my age. They usually think I'm late 30 something. Keeping fit and following a good diet definetly help.
Agree with everything you stated! I too have seen these very same mistakes made by men trying to still dress as though they are still in their 20’s. Saying that MOST 40+ men have a few pounds that they simply cannot loose no matter how much they exercise (perhaps they work to many hours each day or have to many responsibilities in their free time). I’d like to see more options for these sort of men i.e. those who hold a little extra weight (especially around the mid section). I look forward to seeing your new video on this.
I love this video. I couldn’t agree more that we need to stay true to ourselves, especially that with age we become more aware of who we are and aren’t. The more valuable competent advice on how to bring out what I am and feel good about my own style. Thanks!
I’ve just hit 50, and I’ve never tried to dress like anyone else other than myself. Make sure you like what you wear, it fits well, and if you feel smart and confident, you’ve got it.
John I’m 63 and have been following your channel for about a year Getting ready to retire I am definitely going to watch what I wear and have received compliments so guys give it a go -don’t forget you have to wear something so it might as well be a positive response rather than a negative one
This whole thing mainly depends on where you live . In Berlin, Germany for example, men dress youthful and sporty up to their fifties and it is totally ok. Men under 30 are considered as kids ( by men and women ) so the range of well dressed good looking guys on the streets goes from 30 something until 50 something ... If you live in the suburbs or in a provincial town however, you might already be seen as an " older " guy, when you exceed 35. So place is more important than age ...
He acknowledges that everyone has their own look, but there’s nothing wrong with a man knowing how to look pulled together and confident when he needs to. Knowledge is still power.
"When he needs to"!!! Yes! I just try not to let my gym/hiking/workshop clothes become my casual and work clothes, like they did when I was younger. 🤦🏽♂️
I'd say just figure it out for yourself and make your own style. I'm 71 and buy stuff targeted at 18-30 year-olds all the time. I order from China when I don't see what I like/want here in the U.S. My friends who are 10-20 years younger than I compliment on my style all the time and ask where I shop. My friends 20-30 do the same. I stay pretty fit and make sure my clothes are a flattering fit to my body. I stay away from the extreme mega-destroyed or loose/baggy end of style. Really, the most important thing by far is to take care of your body. If you do that, then style comes pretty easy. And if you keep fit, then you will carry yourself with confidence and likely communicate a degree of happiness and openness that can draw people to you. (I'm 5'9", 165lbs. Losing 15 lbs over the past 10 years was a wonderful transformation, and easy - the product of re-joining the cyclist community.)
I'm 53years old and agree whole heartedly with the content. I've been telling my wife this forever but she disagrees I want to be sophisticated but she wants youthful. This is probably the only battle I will ever win, I choose style.
All good tips. Im 55 and not willing to be relegated to the yesteryear of clothing. So I have a stylist and a tailor as looking good is important in my career and he keeps me up to date and pushes me to try new things
I just got back from Milan. Women look to the streets of Paris for fashion...for men it is Milan. He is spot on in the video when he says the fit is everything. Find yourselves a great tailor and treat them well.
Milano is also the fashion capital of Italy where people are expected to feed the industry with $2,000 shoes and $400 jeans and $100 regular looking t-shirts--or did you know that?
I've always walked past the fashion sneaker. I never, ever knew what it was for. Thank you! I'm going to give them a go. And the Taylor idea. Thumbs up!
Honestly it might be because I’m a sneaker head but I do t like those kinda of shoes, of course I don’t really care if others wear it but I never will. There are so many brands that do it and they all look the same, I think they took too much inspiration from old basketball and skate shoes (convers one star and all stars, Stan smith, puma suede, blazer low, vans) to the point were you might as well get those retros. yes they are higher quality but not at all to the $200-400 that some companies want. If you have that budget tho the aj1 low OG for resale is nice
56 years here and I too agree with you! I once cared what people would think about how I would dress, but now I realized that I will never have a six pack and my body isn't going to be changing anytime soon, so if what I'm wearing makes me feel good so be it! I'm the one wearing the clothes!
Great video! It’s all about clothes that fit properly. That’s more than half the battle. You can always adjust color , fabric, etc but if it doesn’t fit , it doesn’t work.
@@40OverFashion the best! I am an over fifty lady and their women's show with that sole is great. Also great for knees and back: muscle strengthening exercises which ease the pressure off stressed joints!
Always wear the most comfortable shoes you can find. Hurting feet usually make you tired and achy all over. I try to find the simplest looking NB shoes for everyday wear. When you have to wear steel-toed work shoes 12 hours a day, you don't care how your everyday shoes look. They just have to be clean and comfortable.
A mistake I have noticed: Men not caring to understand how personal style can become ones uniform; and different 'uniforms' or outfits, can align the mind towards performing certain tasks or aligning with certain qualities. Example: Dressing up as a form of training behavior; like, chastity or mild-manners -- dressing up or dressing down such that am mindful to monitor my behavior. For example, when I am down emotionally, my style of dress demands that I maintain 'stiffness' and other self-preservative qualities when in public -- in other words I will not /look/ depressed and neither will I be mentally impacted by my unflattering image (ie not caring, sloppy, mismatched etc).
Hi... I’m Rob, and 56. Your video title caught my eye, and I watched and “liked” it. I just felt that most all the points you made, although good, may be applied to all ages. It’s just that older men should not make the fashion mistakes for which young men are forgiven due to their immaturity.
It's true most people think that when you are 40+ or 50+ you shouldn't be dressing up to look good. Even my classmate said it's holding your age. I think fashion & looking good has nothing to do with age. Maybe these people who say negative things are just envious because they have big tummies which makes them look like humpty dumpty on slimfit jeans. Dressing well makes people respect you more it's not holding age. We all grow old but we DON'T have to look sloppy or like a slob just because we are matured.
I've realized after some time that men (in my opinion) want to look young, but are still feeling old on the inside which in turn their choice of clothing makes them a bit off especially how they carry themselves. If they dont feel it in the inside it's just not going to work. I'm almost 56 and I feel young on the inside. I also have an 8 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. I always had a youthful mentality and my taste in fashion reflects that. I research TH-cam for ideas and information about enhancing myself from within and my style. Thank you for sharing.
Why do people insists on regurgitating this assassin cliche. If you live in a society, its not just about your. Low hanging pants can be forgiven in a misguided youth, its unconscionable in a mature person. Particularly when your waist circumference is equivalent to your height. Pull your pants up, and your shirt down.
I totally get this. At 65, I still care about how I look and dress. My cardinal rule is “good shoes” and a “good watch”, and everything else falls into place ( most of the time ). Fitness is essential, and I workout three times a week. Being somewhat fit, well dressed, along with my cardinal rule, I always feel my best out in public, and maximize my self confidence. You are never too old to look your best, and enjoy some fashion upgrades on occasion. Buy quality Vs quantity. Avoid trendy style, but stay stylish, and you will feel, and look your best, even past your prime. Do it for you, your wife, your family.
I’m a watch snob and have a decent collection of Swiss chronographs.... each job contract/ consulting role I’d get a tag or Bvlgari or JLC... alas, no one looks at watches anymore.... 😭😤😭😤
So true! I have a friend/instructor/mentor who is about to turn 70 and still regularly runs, cycles, and practices martial arts. He's stayed slim and lost minimal muscle tone over the years, and of course no mental acuity. He's definitely my role model, especially as I currently have a small tire around my waist and I'm trying to get back into shape.
Winter in Florida & summer in Montana. TWO completely different styles. Boat shorts, T's and sandals to boots, jeans, & hats. A wardrobe of great thought and guidance from motherbear.
Cause nobody wants to be that guy living in the past who stopped learning and growing, who becomes a tired old has been giving more effort in convincing himself instead of actualizing themselves in undeniable competence. To each is own, but give credit where it’s due. Giving up is not a virtue.
Joseph Malone: This is the key. Yes! When you walk down the street with a feeling that "I belong in these clothes!" you can succeed with a variety of styles regardless of age. "I belong in these clothes!" is different from "I don't give a damn how I look, so I'll wear what I feel like wearing." The latter attitude is not limited to older men, of course. If you're honest with yourself and you think you look odd now in something you looked good in before, well, you're thinking about wearing those clothes out and about now, not twenty years ago. A lot of what this guy says makes common sense. Clothes should fit.to accentuate one's strengths. But that's like saying that in a job interview you should point out your strengths and not dwell on your weaknesses. One should also not follow every trend, simply because it is popular among this or that group, just like one doesn't in music, food (there is no reason to eat arugula if you don't like arugula -- I happen to like it), films and TV. Kind of obvious, no? If you're fifty and haven't learned that yet, this video is not going to change you.
I agree with and do most of the things you said. BUT ... I will continue to wear my looney toon, team canada, and rock and roll hall of fame t-shirts because I believe an older man is still entitled to have some fun with his clothes. And... I myself do not do the untucked look because I think it looks sloppy - regardless of the shirt type.
absolument ! fashion comes and goes , you follow fashion and you're out out fashion , style remains, go for style and timeless pieces , a good Yves Saint Laurent piece .... for example : wear Yves , the master who actually invented Elegance , not X Y Saint Laurent...and you'll never be out of fashion , the style he invented is timeless classy comfortable gives you confidence and class , male or female...go for Versace pure fashion and you'll look like you walked straight out of and episode of Miami Vice....Style vs fashion.....always choose timeless style and no matter how old you are you can go wrong , invest in quality as well and you'll end up saving money....
Hmm, well I think age has nothing to do with how one dress... one should dress with whatever looks good - both men and women, regardless of age... If you have an amazing body and you´re in your fifties, or sixties, a full head of great hair, a young fresh face, a great fantastic smile with great teeth ( some people are looking like this, and they might look ten, maybe in some cases fifteen years younger then they really are ) so why then should they fall into this dressing classic, if they are sporting and owning their longer hair kind of style, cool jewellery, edgy hats, boots and so on?? And if you have massive, great sexy muscular legs, a nice booty, and a upper body to match, what is the problem wearing skinny jeans or a tight , clingy shirt?? I do agree then, that some things are meant for the really young ones - but one does´nt have to wear golf shirts, classic shorts or chinos just because one has turned 40... At least that is my opinion :)
Well said. I agree 100%. I understand where he's coming from but when he pulled out those sneakers, he lost me right away. I am 44 but I have a more young youthful look and those shoes would make me look way older if anything. Some things only work for certain people regardless of age.
Well, yeah me too - I am 49 years old, and I would not in a million years wear baggy shirts, and old man´s sneakers... I usually wear some kind of leather boots, some long sleeved T shirts, with rolled up sleves, some kind of jeans or cargos, I love wearing hats, glasses or sunglasses, I have pierced earlobes, and I always wear a few bracelets on each arm, and / or a watch, and some rings, I love tattooed arms and shoulders - and I also think it´s kind of relaxed, cool and fresh wearing sandals ( leather ones ) when the weather is up for it - for casual use I mean, with shorts, some relaxed linen pants... Right now I have shoulder length ( I´ve been growing it out for a year - my profile picture is from when I started to grow it out, and I will grow it even longer ) full, and unruly hair, almost no greys and no receiding hairline, my dressing style is rather casual, I dont have very saggy or wrinkeled skin, and I try to stay quite fit eating healthy and working out every day - and neither my ass or my chest is sagging yet, so please, don´t put me in that "maturedressingbox" just because I´m close to fifty... It all depends on how you feel, what makes you comfortable, and how different styles suites you - if you like dressing classic, it´s perfectly fine, but that´s not for everyone, and I hate the word age appropriate.... Check out Jack Greystone, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt or even Steven Tyler for inspiration... Both Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt is in their mid 50´s, and Steven Tyler is almost 70, and he´s still rocking that style... I´m not saying I look like these guys, but I am picking their brains for their style and way of approaching how to get older, stylish and with a personal feel...
Let me now explain something I have learned, and heartily embraced in my 48 years. Acting your age is EXTREMELY overrated! I wear clothes that I think looks good and my confidence does the rest. But as you say, style is subjective...... I for one, wouldn't have a brown sofa. You do you! 👌
Excellent advice. It’s easy for me however. I still dress like I’m in my 20s because when I was in my 20s I dressed like I was in my 40s. Simple classic dress-casual style never changes and is ageless. :)
I just found your website and subscribed - loved it!! I will be a regular viewer; this is just what I needed. I'm not doing too bad, but I do need guidance!!!! Very informative - thanks
I'm 47, I always was, still am, and always will be a rocker. I wear color on top, fitted (not skin tight) jeans and western looking boots on bottom. I look good and smell good whenever I step out of the house. I don't dress like a college drop out or computer nerd.
Disagree with the shoes. Its not about style. Don't care what they look like. I need soft, feather-light comfortable sneakers shoes coz the older i get my feet, bones & etc hurts more & more.
I'm a women and I don't understand all those negative comments from men. Why did you subscribe? The guy is always on point! That's how we like our men to look like! By the way his hair cut is fabulous!
I'm 57 this year and it has taken me the last 10 years to find my style and feel confident. When I was younger I use to follow fashion and wear clothes that betrayed my body shape etc ... Now I go for comfort and style. At 57 I wear slim fit or even skinny leg pants... who cares 😊 I stopped wearing jeans when I became 40. I can't stand them now 😬 I love vintage and second hand clothes. I guess I do have an advantage because i have a sewing machine and make my own clothes such as sweat tops from off cuts of jersey then adding vintage fabric. I also customise second hand clothes when I can be bothered. If I'm honest I think we do take fashion to seriously now a days . Fashion should to be fun and not treated as if we are going to war ... Wear what makes u happy is important because u can't wear it when your dead . 🙏
Seen this too many times. Guys chase after the wrong kind of women, then complain about how all women are terrible. If you've only met women that are after men for their money, might mean you're looking for women in the wrong places.
Just found your channel! Being a stylist it is refreshing to see a men’s styling channel after aaallllllllll those women’s! Love your approach and advice! 👍🏻
One helpful comment I heard recently from a peer was “Men of a certain age should avoid any words on their shirts, especially Ts”. Seems like advice your audience may welcome.
Sorry, but a t-shirt without words is a t-shirt without purpose. Why advertise a fashion brand like kids do when I can pay homage to my favorite sports teams and rock bands?
There are quite a few styling mistakes in this video in my opinion but the most obvious area where you could use some help would be in the style and shape of your beard, this is intended as constructive criticism...
To me it is the wrinkly collars especially the right one. Why not iron it before talking about age appropriate styling? I assume that paying attention to detail is one of the take away here?
As you age gravity will eventually catch up with you especially in the neck area, older guys tend to rock a beard to give their chin more definition and to conceal their man gobblers.

In your 40s, women still focus on your body shape, but by your 50s their focus shifts to your net worth. Meanwhile, we remain solely-focused on their hotness from age 7 into our 90s.
Differing biological imperatives. When we're young, women look for someone who is strong and can protect. When we're older, they look for someone who can provide and has the power to protect. We, the men, are always looking for a baby maker.
That is exactly why you look like everybody else. You got NO style! Style is individual and you can't tell ppl how to dress. I want to be unique i don't want to look like you....
Here the same. As soon as anybody starts to wear Canada Goose, I put mine in the closet and buy a Nobis. As soon as any man would start to wear a nice leather jacket (of which I own a whole variety) I maybe would even start to wear a jeans jacket (of which I now still say: "NEVER!" because I hate that denim stuff, WAY too stiff and as soon as it finally has the right fit, it is worn...). And as anybody still has those boring blue jeans, I always wear Fjallraven trousers. Very practical, lots of pockets, nice fit and indestructible... and nearly no-one wears them!
Here's a comment from a 70 yr old ... 'What a load of bollocks'! Wear what you are comfortable in & ignore what other people think. If you go through your life trying to live it by other people's opinions, you are not living your own life ... & one day, you will wake up, realise it, & regret it.
I start with losing the grey beard and getting a short haircut... I work out and watch what I eat. I'm 43 and I still fit my clothes from when I was 18... I usually wear expensive low cut hikers like Merrell or keen.. I like the out doors look
@@EinSofQuester lol... That's what I mean. I was pretty fit back then. I'm pretty fit now.... I lost about 20kg two years ago. Put that on driving trucks. Lol. I get a lot of second and third forces by the ladies most days now. Even thing ones. My wife doesn't like it though. Lol again
Probably more about a healthy weight than the corduroy blog.samuel-windsor.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/how-to-wear-corduroy-lead.jpg I'm a woman who stumbled across this video and when I was younger I loved corduroy but in Texas there isn't a long enough winter to really need corduroy pants.
Ron , who told you that? Women love a man who dresses sharp. Most any man looks sharp in a well fitted suit. And uniforms like the Marines, Army or, Navy. I appreciate all these...lol.
The men in the comments who keep saying they don't care are just looking for validation because they gave up. There's a big difference between not caring and giving up.
I'm now 77 years old and have discovered, the older I get, the less I care what other people think.
I stopped caring after 45, now 53 and still not caring!
Yep, this is the one thing I wished I had learned when I was 15. You be you...and don't worry about ANYONE else. That's what costs $$$ and tears, and makes people stupid.
Boom
While not caring about what others think is good, caring about yourself is important. It’s like your yard, do you “stop caring” and just let the dandelions take over??
@@eddieg6436 Subtle difference tho...i take care of myself for ME, and not for anyone else (except my wife). That's the point. People are way too narcissistic nowadays, and social media has made it infinitely worse.
The worst part of getting old is listening to people who says you can't do this or that because you're too old...
LOL! Dress Sweat Pants...I love it! I expect those are the ones you've just laundered aren't they Bob??
Exactly !
Wearing jeans and T-shirt at my age means I feel comfortable not to look young
Dickies now for me, they look more like slacks, black ones, but jean feel, still with t shirts, though never white or bright colors, grey, black, etc.

Same here, just a bit younger...
Trying to look like John Kay, end up looking like Mary Kay.
Preach Tommy!
attitude and personality makes a man, not so much the clothes
It's more like $80 to have a jacket tailored, but the point is the same. 👍
nah, he's right. $20. shop around.
I would add that being in shape enables more fashion latitude.
So true.
I have definitely noticed that since I've put weight on I can get away with less
Not necessarily. I'm 63, very athletic & very muscular. Having the classic V taper body makes it almost impossible to buy off the rack. I usually have to tailor shirts & pants and or shop higher end stores. Clothes shopping isn't easy for my body type.
Ever heard of custom tailor?
Pinoy Chio miss me with that
There are some men that are in their 50s and 60s, that look way younger, not because of clothes they wear. But because they took care of themselves, along with some good genes. What you do to your body, when you’re young shows up, real fast. Treat your body. Mind and soul, like a Temple.

The Scotch? Easy boy! But, yeah, you're right.
I don't wear jeans and tee shirts to try to look youthful. I wear them because that's what I've always worn.

I would recommend that you do change the way you dress when you get older. You change the way you think, look, what you do, your friends, your job, views and 1000 things more. Why wouldn’t you mature out of your youth clothes as well?
@@3cpeter why change who you are?

Isn't being older than 40 a licence to have enough self confidence and strength of character to not give a f about what others think
Yes,,,spot on.
So why did you click the link to watch if you got it all together?
Truth of 73 he wants ti show confidence i guess. But deep inside ....
You will not give a f#!k as soon as you retire. Believe me. You'll dress, eat, drink, etc the way that you want to
I have hit 51 now but very slim and weigh 8 and half stone.I have been guilty of wearing football shirts and distressed jeans in the illusion of thinking i could still pass for twenty something.I have addressed it by giving all that stuff to charity and bought myself some good clothes that are right for my age.Enjoyed your video.
I'm 55. I don't wear clothes anymore.....at all. Problem solved.
Michael S
Haha that would be a mighty big problem for others tho.
Makes it more fun to pull "A Cap't Morgan," in the locker room. 😂
There's a lot to be said for living somewhere warm and by the beach, clothes optional.

Lol!
My only rule: Wear what makes me comfortable and makes me feel good. Who cares what others think. Outside of work of course. To each his/her own.
Damn straight!
You are right some don't give a dam how they look, and I don't either.I care how I look,California has some of the worst dressed folks I have ever seen.
Worst rule every stated. What if somebody wants to wear a pair of shorts and flip-flops to your wedding?
@@krane15 My wedding invitations specifically said to be yourself. I hang/ have hung out with royalty, Ambassadors, government folks and even an international terroist/ all kinds of characters. Funerals, I'll dress up if I didn't really know the person. But if it was someone I knew well, I go as I am. That's the way they would have wanted it; their family, too.
Then don't invite that person to your daughter's/son's wedding.

I agree, I am almost 49 and workout and cycle about 5x per week. I knew my babyface would help me when I got older and it has. Most people I meet are shocked when I tell them my age. They usually think I'm late 30 something. Keeping fit and following a good diet definetly help.
It's really sad that you are so hung up on your image. When you are working so hard on an image, you just come across as fake.
How can you be so sure you look like a 31 year old ?
John I’m 63 and have been following your channel for about a year
Getting ready to retire I am definitely going to watch what I wear and have received compliments so guys give it a go -don’t forget you have to wear something so it might as well be a positive response rather than a negative one
Want to keep from "looking old"? Proper diet, vigorous exercise, and a good attitude go a long way; a lot more than your choice of attire.
Garbage. A premium business lounge suit with oxfords will do the trick.
No this is golden!!!
So place is more important than age ...
neumi107 ich liebe Berlin
That is the same in the USA, if you live outside of a big city then bluejeans and flannel are always in.
Your sense of style is spot on for guys who lean towards looking younger than they are but don’t want to look ridiculous.
Just dress with class. A regular fit style suit. Nice shoes and a nice watch. And grow your hair long. That's me.
I don't know how to act my age as I've never been this old before 😂😂
I am laughing so hard. Good one

Great video, I don’t think jeans with holes in them R not Fashion for anybody it looks like you’re homeless or broke, you had some great advice!
RULE A-Z- Maintain a good shape and you can wear ANYTHING!!
Absolutely. Good shoulders and slim hips....
Hi... I’m Rob, and 56. Your video title caught my eye, and I watched and “liked” it. I just felt that most all the points you made, although good, may be applied to all ages. It’s just that older men should not make the fashion mistakes for which young men are forgiven due to their immaturity.
Oh god when I was a teenager I wore bell bottoms and a few years ago they came back in fashion before being replaced by ultra skinny Jean's
Good point.Older Gentlemen need to act their age.
Yes! Totally agree!
Fully agree. If you have a fit body nothing wrong wearing skinny t-shirts/shirts no matter you are in your 40-50

When you're younger you think about fashions; when you are older you think about style.
@@hondah35 true.probably
Dress better when you're older.
People should wear what they like, regardless of what others think. Life is short. Enjoy it
Why do people insists on regurgitating this assassin cliche. If you live in a society, its not just about your. Low hanging pants can be forgiven in a misguided youth, its unconscionable in a mature person. Particularly when your waist circumference is equivalent to your height. Pull your pants up, and your shirt down.
@@krane15 Then conform sir it is your right.
WEAR WHAT YOU LIKE AND FEEL COMFORTABLE.
Then look in t mirror & see that what u feel & like makes for a sloppy presentation.
The worst sin is the “apple on a stick effect.” Guys that wear too tight pants and have a large stomach.
Winter in Florida & summer in Montana. TWO completely different styles. Boat shorts, T's and sandals to boots, jeans, & hats. A wardrobe of great thought and guidance from motherbear.

..."Because nobody wants to be that guy that just looks like he's trying way too hard" said the man with the rolled up polo shirt sleeves. C'mon.
But if it wasn't ,then you could barely make out the super tat on his right bicep.

Cause nobody wants to be that guy living in the past who stopped learning and growing, who becomes a tired old has been giving more effort in convincing himself instead of actualizing themselves in undeniable competence.
To each is own, but give credit where it’s due. Giving up is not a virtue.

Dress with confidence and the world will react accordingly
If you're fifty and haven't learned that yet, this video is not going to change you.
start by dressing your dog with confidence.
I'm 63 and I still want to look smart casual when I go out. Really good tips. Good fit for your clothes applies to any age.
Hello sir would you help me go through my closet and sort out what is and what is not
Amazing how having great hair like this gentlemen’s, automatically makes outfits look better... lol
@@dat2ra I asked my old friends "Hair, strength, or pain free, which would you choose to have back?" We all said "pain free."
Fashion and style are completely different things.
absolument ! fashion comes and goes , you follow fashion and you're out out fashion , style remains, go for style and timeless pieces , a good Yves Saint Laurent piece .... for example : wear Yves , the master who actually invented Elegance , not X Y Saint Laurent...and you'll never be out of fashion , the style he invented is timeless classy comfortable gives you confidence and class , male or female...go for Versace pure fashion and you'll look like you walked straight out of and episode of Miami Vice....Style vs fashion.....always choose timeless style and no matter how old you are you can go wrong , invest in quality as well and you'll end up saving money....
so correct. style is what looks good on you always . fashion lasts for a month or two and rapidly looks stupid and outdated
Good advice. No problems with your style...looking great.
Agreed! Also depend on culture.

You do you! 👌

I'm 57 this year and it has taken me the last 10 years to find my style and feel confident. When I was younger I use to follow fashion and wear clothes that betrayed my body shape etc ... Now I go for comfort and style. At 57 I wear slim fit or even skinny leg pants... who cares 😊
I stopped wearing jeans when I became 40. I can't stand them now 😬
I love vintage and second hand clothes.

Seen this too many times. Guys chase after the wrong kind of women, then complain about how all women are terrible. If you've only met women that are after men for their money, might mean you're looking for women in the wrong places.

He has a "beard neck." Perhaps it's intended to hide his double-chin?
To me it is the wrinkly collars especially the right one. Why not iron it before talking about age appropriate styling? I assume that paying attention to detail is one of the take away here?
As you age gravity will eventually catch up with you especially in the neck area, older guys tend to rock a beard to give their chin more definition and to conceal their man gobblers.

In your 40s, women still focus on your body shape, but by your 50s their focus shifts to your net worth. Meanwhile, we remain solely-focused on their hotness from age 7 into our 90s.
And by our 60s-70s we look for compatible personality, a loving, compassionate person whose company we enjoy. I found one!
These two are not mutually exclusive. You can be unique and still dress appropriately.
