- A look at how the Mybo Origin compound bow is made. Designed and manufactured in Leicestershire, England, the Origin was released in January 2016 and in its first season came to dominate the UK target archery scene.

I purchased one of these a few days ago as I’m fortunate enough to live 30 minutes away from the Merlin store in Loughborough, England. I can’t believe how incredible this bow is, the draw cycle is ridiculously smooth, the valley and let off are just perfectly arranged. It’s difficult to explain unless you try it.
I tried a few of the more expensive compounds from other manufacturers like Hoyt and PSE, but this beat them all hands down! Massive thanks to Ben and the team at Merlin!
The Mybo Elite is one of the bows that I am seriously considering upgrading to!

A large step forward than when I bought my bow in Nottinghamshire. Beautifully designed and produced. A credit to the team.
I've shot 2 Merlin bow models in the late 80's, and they were, at that time, very good and accurate bows !!! I also had the chance shooting many times with Chris, and after, Ben Jones at international events in France or in other countries during the 90's. They're very nice guys and good shooters. I'm happy to see they still are in the archery business and producing such nice bows. I hope this Origin will be a success. Dom
Fantastic video, very insightful to see how this bow is manufactured. Finally got round to trying one the other day & it truly is a fabulous bow to shoot, as soon as I fill my piggy bank I'll be getting one of these. Well done everyone involved in the making of this bow 🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
Nice that it seems to have alot of hand crafting to it; compared with others that seem to use mostly automation, hopefully be buying one next week; looking forward to it

I bought an elite I while back. Is awesome. Solid and well balanced. It is pretty damn heavy though. I love it regardless

That reddy-gold colourway at 16:16 is beautiful! Still shooting my old Hunters Quest with the anodizing sandblasted off and hand polished riser, but if I could justify/afford a new bow.........

Merlin have always made excellent equipment. My wife's XV from 2007 still going strong. The omega sight on my recurve still works perfectly after over 10 years of all weather use. Where others have fallen apart. Once you buy a Merlin Product you know your buying a quality product from an excellent company. Other manufacturers make their cams so thin (To gain speed) that I have seen them buckle. (Wafer thin cams) not good. Although I am not sponsored by Merlin, I have always favoured their equipment.
British craftsmanship at it's best. I wish I'd have bought one of these instead of the Hoyt Pro Comp Elite.

I really think you guys should make some that straight aluminum it looks so good maybe all aluminum body and black limbs aluminum cams that would look awesome
Good video showing the process of machining the parts. Looking how much machining there is and using blocks of aluminum I wondered if you had ever thought of having some sintered parts. Advantages include less final machining, more choice in the composition of material as it is mixed to the specs required and would probably cut the cost of production without compromising the quality.
Sintered has higher tooling cost, for small batches, CNC is cheaper. We are not in the automotive industry.

They are all made in the UK, you can even have a walk thru the factory.

Elite and Bowtech have the cross cables on their cams now. I wonder who pioneered this cam design? Also the oversized one quarter of an inch axles? I find this fascinating also educational!!!!!!

why a dial instead of a digital caliper, same for the draw check scale, and why doesn't the third guy on the podium get a cheque?
I don't like digital calipers, so it's a personal preference. For the rest of your question I simply don't know, I machine the bows I don't shoot them :)
I used digital calipers until I actually got into manufacturing, and then realized that dial calipers are 1 faster, and 2 just easier to use which sounds strange.
I prefer them for dependency, with dial calipers they are purely mechanical
Agreed. The digitals are not more reliable and they can give a false sense of accuracy. They are easily knocked out of cal and unless you constantly triple check your measurements you will end up in trouble sooner or later. Mechanical are simply better. IF you have to rely on digital I think you lose something in the long run and you are allowing a machine to do your math which if that's what you need might mean you needed a different career in the first place. lol my opinion is all. take it or leave I'm weird too lol...

I agree, I have a 30 lbs. Dalton French Re-curve bow, I have had it since 1972, It's fiberglass/wood composite and it's perfect, nothing fancy, no sights, counterweights, etc. I will stick with it if I have to use it, These "mechanical" marvels are nice and all BUT, when that string breaks, it's going to be a BUGGER to re-string it,.. so, I will stay with my plain Jane old fashioned bow!!!!
5:20 - Why are the tops left sticking out of the top of the solution?
That stage isn't the anodising step itself, it looks like one of several cleaning stages prior to the anodising. Usually soft, dyed anodising on aluminium alloys have multiple cleaning stages beforehand, the actual anodic oxide film growth stage, then dyeing and sealing - the boiling water sealing baths you see part way through are out of sequence, those coming last.

Is it how compound bow limbs are usually made? Seems too simple. Recurve bow limbs are consists of several layers and coatings.
For the handle, seems like only shape and material has been decided and just machined until the end. For the recurve handle, I think they go through more complicated in order to reduce the vibration and mass. 100% machining is most easy and not always preferred.
Is it cheaper mybo bow or is this how high end compound bows are made?

Beautiful. But you guys love screws too much ! You need toggle clamps on your drill jigs and a pallet system on your VMC, you will save so much time and hassle !

795 british pounds - thats about $1033.50, or so - - another $65 for a better string, or maybe it's just a spare - - how many strings does it take to strangle a deer after the arrows miss? Anyway, kind'a pricy, still, I'd LOVE to have one.

Why not a casting or forging as source before the cnc seems like a lot of time machining awsy waste material
I heard that this way makes for a sturdier riser, because casting aluminium risks having air bubbles and imperfections that make it more likely for it to snap due to metal fatigue.
Next tme I hear someone talking about John Dudley designing a bow, this is what I want to see. If he didn't do this, he didn't design a bow.

Could be 7075 7078, same as arrows.
