From a coaching standpoint, what you are seeing is pure focus. The more you focus on the spot you want to hit, your body will do what ever it can to put that arrow in there. Also, practice, practice, practice!!!

Great video to study form, equipment, mental discipline. Unless you have shot indoor 20 yards or even outdoor 900 at 40, 50, 60 yards (barebow, recurve, compound, fingers and releases) , you do not know how hard this is. Hats off to these champions performing in front of an audience, film crews, and the thousands who watch on video and criticize. Good stuff to watch.

Archery is the only thing I watch and I do archery most days, and I think about it all the time day and nite. You should try it. It's a total mind game, great for mental sharpness and general well being.

Unus Annus does ONE video about archery, and now I have like 5 videos relating to archery in my recommended. F*ck it, it was pretty fascinating.
This is one of those "sports" where there is no advantage towards boys or girls. Truly an equal opportunity contest.

One of the few sports where men and women can compete with each other as equals.
Yes, specailly at indoors, where short distances and lack of wind makes the #60 cap (at WA tournaments) for draw weight even less important (the current female record is from Sara Prieels, shooting ~#45). Last year Levi Morgan competed at Vegas with ~#72 (very unusual) and was able to pass the 900 score cut, but that poundage doesn't offer any advantage when the target is a paper on foam...

I am sorry but I dislike the use of the attachments to the bows. If you want to shoot a bow, do so without ANY stabilizers. It amazes me with what these people can do, but I have watched people overseas do great things with a bow with NOTHING attached to the bow at all.

I’m not familiar with how the points add but I noticed on the shot on 9:03 he went from 77 to 89 points and I thought that was a 10 point shot. Anyone care to elaborate? Or they made a mistake?
I think the guy said the center circle has an added 2 points in the final round.. so is would be 12 points .. 77+12=89
Why did they adjust Sara's very obvious 9 points to 10 out of nowhere ? She shot a 9 and it turns to a 10 for zero reason before her second shot.
They fixed it if you watch her score at the 3rd shot was a 28

compound might seems easy: ya got a peep sight and a scope to align your bow, let offs to hold lighter poundage at the end at anchor point. but this is a misconception, yes it's easier to shoot a compound at a barebow target. but it is HARD lemme tell ya, HARD to shoot at a penny sized ring at 18 m frl frl

i agree but the reason thay seperate the 2 is because of the results world archery recieved, there are 6 or more men scoring 600's and there's only 1 women in this year i think

Enjoyable match, however, if men and women are so close why do they compete separately?
At this years Vegas shoot 22 men shot 900 only one women did. Women can register for open class if they want to.
men can generally shoot higher poundage bows and even when the bows are the same poundage they might be able to hold them at full draw for longer/easier than woman. compared to other physical sports men and women perform much closer but they are still not quite equal yet
@@MrWizardjr9 actually I find that to be very wrong. Poundage never really matters unless your shooting distance and even then. Half my team as well as other semi pro female shooters I shoot against shoot a good 5 or 10 pounds more than I do. I shoot 40 out of a prevail just fine, no need for more poundage at 20 yards I'm not trying to punch a hole in space here lol
@@MrWizardjr9 Tku, That makes sense. I have not done archery however have done powerlifting and the men average 30%-40% stronger for the same body weight than the women.

Unless your planning on competing in comps like this a lot of states don’t allow sights for bows for hunting.

Broadwater: Mathews TRX 36, AAE Freakshow arrow rest, Axcel Achieve XP sigth, Shrewd scope? Conquest stabilizers? Lopez: Hoyt Invicta, Beiter arrow rest, Axcel Achieve XP sigth, Axcel scope? Definitelly B-Stinger stabilizers.
You seem to know a lot about their equipment. Do you happen to know what draw weight they are using. I use a Martin compound bow at 50 pounds when I target shoot and am wondering if the pros use a lighter or heavier draw weight.

@@MikeHammer1 Varies a lot from archer to archer. Under WA rules they can't exceed 60.9 pounds, under Vegas rules max is 80. I known that Sara Prieels (current woman female score record) shoots 45 pounds, and on the other extreme Levi Morgan did shoot with 72 pounds of draw weight at the 2019 main event in Vegas and was able to score 900 and pass the cut, but my guess is that most of the male pros do shoot ~50-60#. The extra speed of more poundage does 0 at the short range and windless indoors.

what are they using to pull the arrow?
It’s called a release. In this case it can be very fine pressure to loose your arrow. At this level they are not actively using their hands to operate the release, but something called back tension. You push with your bow arm towards the target, and push the other arm in the opposite direction using your back muscles. When you do this right, it can come as a surprise that the arrow has released.
Archery is easy to start, and incredibly difficult to master, but fun all the time.
With the olympics they use a different style of bow, and way of releasing their fingers and a small piece of leather, and shoot out to 70m outside in the wind. But all archers respect the others skills.
