if you watch Kevin's foot, he used a "pedal" on the floor to change his cello from a more standard sound to electric, so he could shred like an electric guitar....
Yep! They talk about how the most important thing is listening to each other. Both in the "we try all ideas" kind of listening but also when singing, they are constantly LISTENING. And you can tell.
At an early age, Kevin began learning piano, cello and saxophone. He performed at Carnegie Hall twice as soloist on the cello and saxophone and has appeared on NPR’s “From The Top." After finishing high school at Phillips Academy Andover, Kevin enrolled in Yale University where he was a pre-med and majored in East Asian Studies. He spent 18 months in Beijing becoming fluent in Chinese as a part of his Yale fellowship. While in college, Kevin began developing his “celloboxing” skills and in 2009 won second place in the “Celebrate and Collaborate with Yo-Yo Ma” international competition. (From Kevin's Wik page)
The time signature is technically 3/4, but it's being felt in 1, which allows them to play with them tempo and stretch both the length of the notes AND the space between notes. The result is brilliant!
The beat stays steady throughout but there is quite a bit of syncopation between n KO’s part right after Scott’s initial entrance. And yes, cellos can cry.
Kirstie - All right boys...voices and cello up, Mitch - LoOove remains - MiniMitchSlap Scott - Blue Eyed Soul Dragon Drive-by Matt - Renames song 'Falsetto from a Bass' Kevin - "Hold my bow".. "BaaaaBYY!!!!".... Note all of the members except Kevin just might have a greater connection with this song than they know....we would have to ask their parents. This was some serious baby making music in the 90s....
You know even tho this is more a Kevin song and Matt I do love mitch because if you listen to the easy rise of his voice with no effort, then watch Kevin hit that note. There is a difference. Mitch is a little fuller tone bc its richer due to his being a counter tenor and can naturally hit those soprano notes in kirstys realm. There's no strain whatsoever. Buy as Kevin uses falsetto, you can tell.
Matt needs to get more love. He’s phenomenal!
Hope he comes out with solo music soon.
@@patriciaburton1697 He has said he's working on it so yay!
Absolutely! 👍 💖
His range is ridiculous!
100%

Great reaction! I am eating up reactions to this performance because it is so insane!
Same. Anytime one comes up in my feed, I'm on it immediately. I'm addicted to this song now.
Me too!
It’s called practice, loving the fans, and loving each other. Thx for your reaction. Loved watching you react to Kevin’s shredding cello.

I love people losing their minds over this song! “I gotta exercise before doing PTX” is hilarious!
I love the classic Shawn Stockman line when he reacted to Let's Get It On during the singoff.
"It was alright..."
Kevin is considered a master cellist, classically trained
No matter what they do...🔥🔥🔥🔥

Sounds like the percussion played one bar of common time under the 3/4 time of the vocals...remarkable!
LOVED your reaction!!!!
Thank you for pointing out the timing. I love 100% of the rest of the arrangement but that part caught me off guard
Well you make about the 4th person who couldn't find your words for a bit of time! lol

...not even a full bar. I counted 2.5 beats.
