Here's the story of this song: the previous song featured Kevin on the cello, so he was backstage putting the cello away during the choral opening. He came back on stage (not seen on camera) right at the point that Avi hit that low note that started to shred the Star Vista Theater sound system. Mitch was suffering from jet lag, so during a break earlier in the show, he drank two Red Bulls back-to-back. As Aha began, Mitch's Red Bulls kicked in, and he proceeded to go completely INSANE on stage while Avi continued to JOYOUSLY shred the sound system in the background. And thus, you have the live performance that MANY Pentaholics consider to be the finest of their career, all made even more legendary by the fact that it now seems was only captured by this fan video!! PTX uses some audio studio trickery in their recordings, but will only use Autotune as an artistic effect and NEVER as a corrective measure. And they NEVER use Autotune live (at least they never have up to this point, although they may start adding touches of it when they return to touring as some of their latest recordings use some). Anyone who says otherwise is clueless.
I hadn’t heard the hangover/Red Bull part of the story. That explains a lot. Many people have said that this performance was even better than when they heard it live in person. We owe this fan a debt of gratitude. Thanks for adding the details ✌️💚
My favorite comment is from Anessa Lyn: “I have 2 questions for you? You awake now? How's your heart? Avi blew the speakers, Mitch took off the roof. But him on the floor moving towards the audience, you know guys and girls in the front row probably needed CPR.”
Great reaction! Yes, Kevin was right there on stage next to Scott. All those whooshes and rattles and pounding beats are him. There is no way they could have done this without him. There are a few other videos of this song, showing him doing his part, but this one is the most epic. Between Avi trashing the sound system and Mitch giving it everything, it is amazing.
Mitch has released a solo cover of Billie Eilishs’ “ your power”. He’s alone on his roof singing. It is magnificent. He wanted to honor Billie’s song And he does. It will blow you away
Kevin was putting his cello away and then he was on the other side of Scott. I really enjoy your reactions! One of my favorite that is not as well known is "Pentatonix Performs on The Queen Latifah Show" th-cam.com/video/OzN2rsugsDc/w-d-xo.html
Love your reaction... I hate when people say they can not be that good without using auto tune! I have seen them 2 times in concert. They are terrific. They do not use or need to use any kind of devices to sound good!!!!!
There’s always a certain level of production that goes in to any of their tracks. But they strive to record only what they can perform live. So many good examples of them out there singing live, either in huge concerts, or in very intimate ‘private’ settings. Check them out.
Avi was the bass, Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) was on the left side of Mitch, Scott was on the right side of Mitch and as has already been explained Kevin slid in when the song began as was next to Scott. I loved your look when Mitch sang so hard. I look forward to more PTX reactions. Thank you!
The 90s medley, did in fact have a few instances of auto tune, but it was to, sort of give a shout out to the 90s songs, that utilized it heavily. I believe it is used in the Cher's song, Believe, and Blue, by Aqua. They do occasionally use a little bit of echo and reverb, in a few of their, not one takes. But for the vast majority of their music, their is no auto tune
This is also known as the "where is Kevin?" Video. He was putting his cello away. You will notice as the Aha song begins that Mitch has moved closer to Kirstie. They moved over to make room for Kevin
A great “unfiltered” live one is their cover of “gold”. And they also use auto tune on purpose on their 90’s dance medley during believe as an homage to the original by Cher :)
Can you imagine how good that would have sounded if it was filmed over something better than a phone?! There are several live performances online... Hallelujah @ the Christmas Show...Daft Punk at a private session without even mikes...Gold was semi-live...as was the song from Dear Evan Hansen. There are more. Some with really good sound.
If you notice there is a big space between Kirstie and Mitch when they start. Later there is much less space because Mitch has moved over to make room for Kevin next to Scott.
The people that yell "auto tune" and crap just don't know what their talking about. These guys have incredible God given talent or their Aliens...lol. I've seen them live several times and there is no autotune going on, its all them and they blow you out of your mind. Mitch can do things with his voice that just really blow your mind, and half the time he looks like its no harder than talking.
th-cam.com/video/7GMHqYxpnzk/w-d-xo.html That's the link to popsprings live. Think about it. This was recorded an eternity ago in technology time and that was a cell phone camera. Lol Great reaction

@@dishmurphy5754 Larry is the resident PTX historian 😁 Hi Larry!
Hallelujah from their TV Christmas Special, and there Wicked tribute performance. Enjoy! GOLD also amazing!

Old Pentatonix did strict acappella (no autotune) however they have changed in recent years after the bass, Avi, left in September 2017.
That little smile just as the applause started ... yes, Mitch, you did that! ETA: Bass vocalist was Avi (short for Avriel) Kaplan

PTX Popspring 2016 live; three original songs, and their Michael Jackson medley.
My thought exactly
I totally AGREE! 👍
I don't think people realize just like regular bands not everyone is always on stage the whole time.

Kevin comes in on the other side of Scott. The fan videoing is just concentrating on Mitch. Kevin is there. You can hear him.

Hia name is Avi!!!!! voice like melting chocolate!
they don't use auto tune-they want the fans to hear the same thing whether on a video or live. So never auto tune just perfection

Avi has blown speakers with his low notes 😊
There are quite a few live videos, not all with balanced mikes - this is a good one, often overlooked "La La Latch New Year's Eve 2015"
If you notice there is a big space between Kirstie and Mitch when they start. Later there is much less space because Mitch has moved over to make room for Kevin next to Scott.
If you haven't seen pentatonix original song "love again" you may enjoy that

Avi blew out a speaker.
Kevin's off to the right...
PTX doesn’t autotune.as a rule. Kevin was putting away his cello but he is in the Mix but off camera
Avi blew the speakers...
Avi blows speakers...
Mitch gets a little carried away with this one...
