You sound dumb. You realize it wasn't the diff. It was the coupling mechanism that's there to disconnect the front axle to save fuel. They break all the time on chevys. It's not in the diff. It's a shaft that bolts on to the passenger side. They can be changed fairly easily.
I really like this video format. No overbearing music, just feels like we’re out doing a real-world practical test with Nathan. No “showmanship”, just honest review. 👍🏼
Bought the Sport, and 3 months later bought the full-size. Now we have both. Nothing but good things to say about the sport: fun to drive around town and I've put it in some interesting offroad situations and it has excelled. We get more comments on the robin's egg sport in a day than we do on the cactus big bronco in a month. If we had to keep one, it would be the sport. The big Bronco is a big fun toy - love everything about it. Non-sasquatch Black Diamond with the soft top was everything I needed and it was under 50k.
Great to see someone showing the little Sport some love. I bought the first badlands model in my region in December of 2020 as a downsize from my 13 Flex (which was an awesome vehicle). I’ve had no mechanical issues and total reliability since. I even dropped it in a 2 ft hole while on a trail and it walked out with just a tear in the front bumper. It has 78,000 kms on the clock now. I’m 6’1, 250 and yes the seats are a little narrow but I find them more comfortable than the bigger seats in my flex. Cheers guys.
Nathan is the best! Thanks for taking the sport out, they're such tempting little vehicles but hard to justify the cost. Really wish the bigger engine was available in more trims.
I wish they sold these in Australia. I’d buy one in a heartbeat. The big Bronco is too big for what I need. I rarely go off road and when I do, it’s just gravel roads and mud. I don’t do any heavy off road driving. So this would be perfect for my needs.
Nathan, I have a 2022 Bronco Sport Badlands that I striped up Freewheelin' style. Last April I stopped by the ranch on our way to Alaska to run the obstacle course. After that we went to Moab for a week of off-roading. The only limiting factor is ground clearance, not traction. I only had to lock the rear diff a few times, and it did the job flawlessly. Yes, I wish it towed more, but our travel trailer is under 2,000lbs so it works for us. I had considered a full size but at the time I was in the market it was still about a 2 year wait if ordered and dealers were still charging a "market adjustment of 10 to 30 k on in-stock ones. I was lucky to find mine with the equipment and color I wanted a little below sticker.
My wife bought the 2023 badlands trim and I was really impressed with how well it preformed from a daily driver to when the weather got ugly especially in the snow definitely worth a look if you don’t need it’s bigger brother
I have a ‘22 Sport Badlands and I really do love it. It’s my only car and I needed something I can drive around Denver and can take me to cool fishing spots. I appreciate the smaller size too.
i went from the jeep JL to the bronco badlands. stock for stock the bronco doesn't flex quite as much BUT... what it lacks in flex it makes up for in everything else comfort wise. not only can i got 80 down the highway without swerving all over from a solid axle tracking like a hammered dog turd, i can offroad everything i've asked it to with just minimal intervention from a rear locker if the tire floats too much. I'm extremely happy with the move I made! I've also just jumped up to a BDS suspension so my flex should be notably better this coming summer's wheeling season.
I believe this bronco filled the hole that the old style escape was in. I’m really liking this bronco style is good but the functionality is where it’s at. I really want a non turbo hybrid version because the turbo engine aren’t in my eyes as reliable 👍👍👍
I love my Jeep Renegade Trailhawk for a lot of the same reasons you like the Bronco Sport. Good on-road, decent off-road, niceties like heated wheel and seats. I wish my Trailhawk had that camera system! It always feels slightly sketchy going up steep inclines where all you see is sky instead of where the trail is going. Mine has the mysky roof option with the removable panels and I have added Wildpeak A/T Trails in 225/65/17 going ever so slightly bigger than stock.
I agree with what you said about the screen size. People are obsessed with screens even though you use it maybe twice when you’re in the car. CarPlay doesn’t get much better when your screen is 14 inches. Also I agree about the light flooding the cabin. I have a 4Runner 2022 and I wish you could turn down the brightness just a bit more or even turn it off if need be
I don't know about this sync 3 system but in the sync 4 you can turn down the brightness and you can turn the whole screen off if you choose. Mine also will adjust the brightness depending on the light in the cabin and it has night mode as well, which turns it all darker colors etc so it's not lighting the hell out of the cabin.
I have a 23 Maverick Tremor Lariat if TFL wants to do a comparison with the Bronco Sport, my health is bad and not using it, so if you want to take it for a while for comparison testing I would love to see it, I had a Bronco Sport Badlands that I traded for the Maverick Tremor, thought they would by much more similar than they are, it's surprising. Love the Maverick, miss the Bronco though.
I just bought mine about a month ago and I love it! It's the 1.5L Heritage version in Cactus Gray and it is perfect for me. This is the first time I was able to buy a vehicle that I really wanted and not just because it was all I could afford. I test drove the Outerbanks version and while I did like the extra bells and whistles, I loved the red Bronco lettering in the front and the white roof and wheels. Both trims had the same engines so I just chose the one that aesthetically worked for me. It was about 1k cheaper too lol. So far I have loved it and I'm paying less than $100 more for this one than I paid for my old car. Btw, I named her Savannah lol.
I'm not in the market for this type of vehicle and I probably would have written if off if I was. Until this review that is. Tommy and Roman always seem to pick vehicles with a "money's no object" outlook and to be fair, I typically agree with their tastes because it's fun. But money is important to consider and I appreciate how you break it down realistically. Thanks Nathan!
I have a 21 Badlands that i absolutely love. She'll get through 90% of the trails here in Michigan and its easy to drive. I think the 8" screen is a good size. I've driven some newer F-150's with the huge 14" one and its way to distracting and cumbersome. I will say though that the Heritage limited is crazy overpriced. You can get the performance without all the goodies. The only option on my Badlands is the trailer hitch (which i use to put bikes on) and it was around 35K.
Bought a Sport after my previous car died and I did a lot of research and very happy with the result. The Bronco Sport is much larger than my old car and has way more space, more than I need for long trips. The build in GPS is a god send since my previous car was from before those were standard, it gets more miles as well and just looks super cool. Plus with drive assist makes it way safer. Really happy I got it.
I wish we had scenery like that here in Florida. I love the mountains as well. We will be back in Alaska in May and I can't wait. I'd scoop up some offroad vehicle in a heartbeat if I had that type of place to go out in. Always so hot and humid here in Florida during the Summer.
We got a big bend sport for wifey, my expectations were low, but WOW, awesome little four wheel drive, we take it up and down logging and mining roads fly fishing and it eats the rough roads up! Love the baby broncos!
$46K gets you a fully loaded Chevy Colorado LT with every bell and whistle...plus double the HP & torque, a real 4wd system, and the ability to tow 7K lbs. A top trim Bronco Sport makes absolutely no financial sense.
It's what the 2nd gen ford escape was supposed to be. If the old escape had the locker and selectable 4wd it would be perfect. Ford really knew what worked and copied onto this.
i was always skeptical of the bronco sport. My dad got a used 22 Badlands and its really a sweet little unit. Way more capable than you'd think. He put some Falken AT on it and that little sucker will really go through some stuff. Im hoping Toyota brings out the small FJ Land Cruiser as after driving his, Im really in love with reasonably sized offroaders again. Subaru with the CVT is a non starter for me. The 10 speed trans, torque, and diff lock makes it super fun.
Owned a ‘22 Outer Banks Bronco Sport. Seriously one of the best cars I’ve ever owned in my life. It was nearly a perfect car. The only thing that I could complain about it, to echo Nathan, the backseat space and even the front, was small, and as a fat person, I needed to size up. Other than that, the headroom was amazing, the trunk space was actually really spacious and it drove amazing, GREAT on gas. I recommend to anyone interested in getting. It is expensive, but I absolutely believe you get your moneys worth.
I just bought an Outback in February. I drove the Bronco Sport and I liked it except I am 6'3 and that front seat hardly goes back at all. I felt cramped during test drive. It is nice, but just wasn't made for me. If the seat went back another couple inches I would have probably got it.
I have the Sport Badlands, which I love. I was recently looking at the Bronco, but the rear seats don't fold down flat, like in the Sport. So my dogs said No to the Bronco.
Is that a ‘23? Looking at the 2024 build, the brown seats and 2.0L engine are not options for the Heritage. Have to go to the Badlands for the 2.0. How do you feel this compares to a Subaru Crosstrek, both in performance and in long term reliability?
As many people use their car for camping and sleep in the back, I wish reviewers would tell us how tall, wide, and long (with seats folded) the cargo space is.
Wife has a yellow Sport Badlands. We’ve had it a little over a year now. Nothing but good things to say about it. We visit family out in rural Texas and have to take some pretty rough dirt roads to get to their property. My CX-5 is a pain in the butt (literally), but this little thing floats over it with ease. I’ve been very tempted to trade in my CX-5 for another Bronco Sport, but I want to wait and see how hers does over time since it’s still fairly new.
Ok, but the V6 Escape with 4WD was a monster. I owned one. It did whatever you wanted and went anywhere with ease. It's not a bad comparison to me, considering the "glorified" version comes with much better technology and creature comforts while providing better fuel economy.
@@FlatbottomBomber not a monster but I good dirt road vehicle. The rear clutch over heats if it gets too much stress. Just depends on what you want to do. This is great on road and more than capable on most dirt roads but not at 46k.
The trick isn’t convincing us that this Bronco Sport is what we want. The trick is convincing us that the full-zoot Bronco is something we DON’T need. Especially since I bought it $5000 less than this.
My wife loves her little heratige. Its only the 1.5, and compared to my truck.... I mean there really isn't a comparison the capalities between a Bronco Sport and a Duramax when you live in the country. But in all honesty, for being a grocery getter, picking up the kids from school, taking it into town, and like shown in the video, very moderate "off road" use like taking it to the pond, down non-graveled trails, to go fishing it does well. My wife is 5'3" and loves how easy it is to throw a kyak on top. A little slow, sure, but overall, a great little car, with a good feature set of creature comforts, and a killer price compared to the rest of the market.
I was looking at one of these the other day and would love to have one. Problem is, my wife does not like the Heritage Edition and the rear seats look compact for growing kids. My son is 13 and growing quickly, my daughter is not far behind and we want them to have comfort for both quick jaunts and long road trips. We plan to test drive one anyways and then if we like it, we will take the kids back for a test fit around town. Otherwise we're looking at a 2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid and it has a much larger back seat area.
The heritage edition is stupid and a waste of money. A badlands with the options you want is the way to go for new. A used Lexus gx460 or lx570 is better overall honestly.
@@JahyMoonwalker We love our current vehicle, which is a Lexus, an older one but its been great and have thought about another newer Lexus but in all honesty, we kind of want a warranty right now. I know you can get warranty on a used car and have thought about that as an option as well.
Badlands edition is the same vehicle but with normal color options instead of the white trimmed pastels. I'm "borrowing" my daughter's Hot Pepper Red Badlands Sport until she gets her license.
@@brianscott2895the badlands has the 2 liter and the more advanced rear diff. As far as I can tell, all other Bronco Sport options only show the 1.5 liter engine, I think Nathan may have mis-spoken when he said the heritage has the 2 liter.
This is a great vehicle. People keep trying to find reasons to hate it because it goes against modern macho man toys that have to be large. This vehicle is fun to drive on and off road which is rare.
No… we hate it because shill videos like this try to convince you this isn’t just an escape. This is an awful choice when the RAV4, CRV, and Forrester exist.
@@GeorgeOrwell-tp8dw It BLOWS all those AWAY off -road....the only competition being the Subaru, and it BLEW that away climbing up challenging hills....they have a video on it.
This electronic traction control stuff works pretty good, but in the good old days you just locked your hubs and drove. Almost straight up if you wanted to and with tall ground grip tires, push snow over the hood. Ford 4x4 early 70s
Looking online the Heritage only comes with the 1.5 three cylinder. Personally I would choose the Badlands version. Locally they are offering discounts on these models.
Heritage Limited has the 2.0 like the Badlands. They are literally the same vehicle but Heritage Limited has an extra badge and different color schemes. 👍🏽
@@cptiii I'm looking at Ford's website and they only offer the Heritage with the 1.5 liter engine. I don't see any option for a Heritage Limited either. What am I missing?
@@CraigSmith568 gotcha! The regular Heritage is the 1.5 three cylinder. But Heritage Limited has the 2.0. I’m guessing it’s no longer available if it’s not on the website! They both were relatively low production numbers.
I totally agree. I had a full size as well as a heritage limited currently but with the peak blue which is the darker blue color and while they were both wonderful I would say for 90% of people unless you need to do serious off-roading and you need that ground clearance. The broncos sport will do it. Now. What I recommend is don't get the three cylinder. All you need is the Badlands base model. No options. It's still comes with power. Pretty much everything. You just don't get leather. The wireless phone charger is a piece of crap anyways and it'll take most people just about anywhere they want to go and I have averaged 26 mph with doing probably 70% highway driving and the engine is just so torqy for a little car. It's effortless to drive and it really does do everything well except like he said it doesn't tow much and the back seat is made for people without legs. The only things I wish it had was 360 camera and air conditioning seats Also when you get the Badlands with the 2 l and the extra off-road stuff everything that comes on it has already been proven in other cars for years. The two leaders been around since 2013. The only issue it really had was the wastegay linkage on the turbo which has been fixed. The transmission has been used since 2017. I believe the trick rear differential was used in the focus. RS. All-wheel drive system has been used for over a decade. The frame is still the escape frame it's been used for like over in a decade just slightly modified. I just hit 20,000 my heritage limited and have had zero issues knock on wood. And they have increased the capacity of the PTU and on some models added a cooler which it desperately needed. Those PTUs were failing on those all-wheel drive systems in the early ones because they didn't have enough fluid and they would overheat really easy and coke up and Ford was saying only change him like every 50 or 60 thousand miles I think which was not enough. I do mine every 30
I wish they would have named it something else. I just got mine in Badlands and 1000 miles so far. I really like it and coming from an Explorer ST it’s different. The 8 inch screen is perfect and enough. It’s a perfect lifestyle vehicle, for those living in cities but like to get to a camp site or a hunting spot.
These bronco sports heritage Limited additions are becoming highly collectible now because they only made 1966 of them. You couldn’t ask for a better subcompact crossover with all of the options it has. Much more practical for every day use than the big bronco…. Two different animals.
ecch..... y'all recommend the Jeep Liberty KK. First one lasted me for 4 months before I was taken out by a old lady in a honda. The second KK I have had for 3 years .... and still loving it and it can go on basic trails and is a great daily driver. I will stick with my KK, Nathan. :)
There are 2 reasonably priced Ford models available with a standard transmission. The better choices at Ford are the Mustang 6 speed or the Bronco 7 speed. Either one of those would be an excellent choice.
Not bad....not bad at all. I'll stick with my little 04 TJ for now. Maybe when prices drop and the economy improves. The yellow heritage is a looker though.
The value you get for the Sport even with base Big Bend is so much fir what it cost. The Heritage are limited editions so I do get the higher price tag
So, I have a 2020 Ford Escape S AWD and my baby cousin had a 2022 Ford Bronco Sport Badlands, and she swore that everytime she drove it, she'd hear a rattling from the back. The Straight Pipes, Jakub, stated the same thing when they test drove the Bronco Sport Heritage Edition. I've never heard anything like that in my Escape, and it's pretty much the same platform--any other Bronco Sport owners hearing a weird rattling noise when they're driving?
The other thing about massive screens is that manufacturer's offload virtually all of a vehicle's functions to them. I'm much happier with my BS Badland's "small" screen and physical buttons. Unrelated, I threw on 245/65/17 KO2s, which look fantastic and don't rub at all. Sure they're noisier, but the upsides (looks, off-road performance) was worth it for me.
I had a 2018 Ford Escape which was in an accident. Ended up getting the Baby Bronco partly because I been driving escapes since they launched. Love the thing. This guy, for me, is what I think the escape should have been.
No snow mode and I hate the fact that ford made them harder for the average person to work on with all the crap under the hood what I think is funny is that this has a rear locker most mid sized and full sized pickups do not have rear lockers at all the only problem with this is there is no room in the back seat
Great little SUV, I had a loaner for a month, and I was very impressed. No hooligan driving mode like the big brother, and the worst part: no manual transmission.
My wife and I traded in her bronco sport for an explorer timberline the week our son was born. This vehicle is not great if you need larger car seats. We've had the explorer for almost 2 years and the only thing i miss from the bronco sport is the payment, lol. our bronco was 30k and our explorer was 42k.
At least the differential didn’t blow out lol

Inches matter, ask your wife. 😏
I really enjoyed my Bronco Sport. It did drive good around town but was a tad too small and highway comfort was lacking.
As many people use their car for camping and sleep in the back, I wish reviewers would tell us how tall, wide, and long (with seats folded) the cargo space is.
Great review Nathan !
I have the sports and love it, use my F 150 for towing 😊
If you want to save some dough, go with the Badlands. It’s not as pretty, but you’ll still get all of the performance.
The BS is a beast of a little SUV. It's like the old XJ Cherokees!
How would you compare it to the Outback or Crosstrek wilderness ?
This Bronco sports are impressive I drove my bro's sport and as a 4runner owner this little trucks are impressive on every aspect
Truck?
@@joseeduardo4327They are classified as trucks.
@@joseeduardo4327in the truck family.
46k for a glorified Escape. I’m going to go with no.
Only a fool would buy this vehicle. So many better options.
They go BOOM
I'm with you. My 23 Bronco Big Bend was 42 out the door. Why pay 46 for a sport, when you can get the fullsize Bronco for less?
Older the children get , the more things they bring along in a trip.
I love everything about these vehicles, especially this model. I just wish they weren't so damn expensive.
@@GeorgeOrwell-tp8dw The Bronco sport is used in rally races. I guess you should be telling those teams it’s an escape.
This one reminds me of the original Escape, which was also a great car.
If it towed 3,500lbs like the Rav4 Adventure it would be a strong contender.
RAV4 is horrible off-road.
@@cptiii Thanks. I wondered how they got one with that engine in it. I may get one when my car needs replaced. They do look like a nice vehicle.
Yeah I own a ‘23 Badlands and a huge fan of it. I think it’s worth getting the 2.0.
More Nathan on every video, he is the best. Less Roman more Nathan.
Ford marketing of Goat mode is ridiculous.
These bronco sports heritage Limited additions are becoming highly collectible now because they only made 1966 of them. You couldn’t ask for a better subcompact crossover with all of the options it has. Much more practical for every day use than the big bronco…. Two different animals.
Well at least it’s more reliable than the new Tacoma which is embarrassing.
Saw this behind the Taco in the ‘broke’ video and knew this was coming.
ecch..... y'all recommend the Jeep Liberty KK. First one lasted me for 4 months before I was taken out by a old lady in a honda. The second KK I have had for 3 years .... and still loving it and it can go on basic trails and is a great daily driver.
I will stick with my KK, Nathan. :)
A nice vehicle but it costs almost as much as a 4Runner or a well-equipped wrangler.
bring back the comfy seats in cars. we aren't driving on a race track. every set now has bolstering and is hard like we are all race car drivers.
I kept waiting for you to actually take it off road...
Would buy , but overpriced for what you get by about $5000.
$46K. I literally spit out my drink on my desk. Wow.
In a world with 45k Honda Civics, I was expecting more actually.
always liked the little bronco.. its just impressive.
There are 2 reasonably priced Ford models available with a standard transmission. The better choices at Ford are the Mustang 6 speed or the Bronco 7 speed. Either one of those would be an excellent choice.
As usual awesome video and review. Thank you Nathan.
@TFLoffroad: how did it do at the ranch off road course?
Not bad....not bad at all. I'll stick with my little 04 TJ for now. Maybe when prices drop and the economy improves. The yellow heritage is a looker though.
Refresh coming gets a proper sized screen. I'd wait for that.
The value you get for the Sport even with base Big Bend is so much fir what it cost. The Heritage are limited editions so I do get the higher price tag
Oh Nathan, you and your logic got me thinking I need a Bronco sport 😂
Would have nice if they put the spare on the tailgate instead of underneath.
First, it is too small to be a functional family car. Second, it is too expensive, for 46K I can get a Grand Highlander for that money.
This dude looks funny in that thing.
👌 Totally agree with your analysis. If common sense goes before ego, the Bronco Sport is the better choice 90% of the time.
It is a nice looking Ford escape.
I had a 2018 Ford Escape which was in an accident. Ended up getting the Baby Bronco partly because I been driving escapes since they launched. Love the thing. This guy, for me, is what I think the escape should have been.
You’re hilarious
All you’re missing is the “mall crawling” comment
@@lordrayden3045 oh we haven't even gotten to the ecoBOOM part yet 🤣
I agree! People want the Big Bronco just so that can say they have it. Most ppl never use it.
Which ones have 4x4 which my wife wants and she’s getting rid of grande Cherokee in December.iv been told the 1.5 liter is underpowered a lot
No snow mode and I hate the fact that ford made them harder for the average person to work on with all the crap under the hood what I think is funny is that this has a rear locker most mid sized and full sized pickups do not have rear lockers at all the only problem with this is there is no room in the back seat
Yea, too many pcv lines running over the top of the engine. I can only imagine the horror of a valve cover gasket job
I love these things. Perfect size. Makes me excited for Toyota to make the baby Land cruiser they are teasing. Around the same size
I am regularly getting 25 plus mpg with my badlands sport. AC season will bring it down to 23.
Wonder how this would do against a Outback Wilderness
There’s few videos. It outperforms it when stock. The CVT isn’t great off-road.
Who at TFL is listening to 1st Wave, it's not Nathan. It is one of my stations.
Commenting for support!!!
@TFLoffroad: Would be nice if Ford would actually produce the Badlands trim for the 2024 model year…
Mid winter in the Rockies… very little snow. Dry winter?
How does this compare to the new Defender ?
