The Six Day War 1967 | Line of Fire | Full Documentary

  • The story of the Arab-Israeli War of 1967, the echoes of which are still heard today in the Middle East. In May of that year, Egypt, under President Nasser, blocked the Tiran Straits to Israeli shipping and began to gather huge numbers of troops in the Sinai Peninsula. At the same time King Hussein’s Jordan allowed Iraqi troops across her borders.
Israel was swift to respond to this turn of events, which she perceived as a clear threat to her security. There were devastating pre-emptive air strikes against the Egyptian air force, which was quickly put out of action. Jordanian and Syrian attacks were halted and repelled; after only six short days Israel had captured East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights, the West Bank and Sinai itself.
The chastened Arab states refused to enter into peace negotiations with Israel. Although Sinai was returned to Egyptian control in 1979, Israel held on to her other prizes and it is these so-called ‘occupied territories’ which are so much a part of the troubles that blight the region to this very day.
Line Of Fire Series: New perspectives on history’s great battles
    About The Series
Even at this great distance, the stories behind the battles that shaped the history of the world continue to captivate people everywhere. It is not difficult to see why. The sheer scale of the fighting on military history’s great battlefields boggles the imagination and tales of courage on those same bloody fields make the heart beat a little faster. To think of the fate of nations being decided by a single stroke of military genius or by sheer ineptitude or by the vagaries of fortune tingles the spine…to imagine ourselves faced with the same dangers as those confronted by soldiers throughout the years makes the blood run cold.
All of these things go some way to explaining why military history holds such an enduring place in the popular imagination - and the time has come to tell the stories of these great episodes from the past in a completely new way.

If there’s one thing that this conflict showed, it’s that there’s a big difference between countries that are fighting to destroy another country and a country that is quite literally fighting for its very survival. These Israelis don’t wanna fight. But they have no choice. All these Israelis want to do is live in peace. But so many of the Arab nations want nothing more than its destruction for some of the most unjust reasons imaginable.
And even though it wasn’t this particular conflict. During the later, Yom Kippur war, it shows that even when the Israelis are caught napping in the end, they still emerge victorious.
Now, whether or not you agree with my sentiments on this frankly is irrelevant.

Hmmmm. I wonder where those brave Israelis got their weapons and militarily equipment. The UK?.......THE USA???? Yep, youre welcome from the actual heros. We also saved a bunch of yah in WW2. Israel wouldnt be anything without big daddy USA. And how does it want to repay? By currently trying to drag us into a war with Iran. Becauae it knows the USA is fantically obsessed with this little hole in the wall.

      @@ultrajd good points.
The Yom Kippur War was a great turn around, but Israel got lucky in the Golan.
The Syrian had a chance to secure the only two bridges across the Jordan on the first day/night. The quality of the Israeli soldier will always be better than his/her foes because they are fighting for their lives.

    • @ultrajd
      @ultrajd หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Jesse-mt2ri and this is why the Israelis are so skilled. Countries like Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and all those other nations that want to destroy Israel just want to get rid of Israel because of some false sense of “honor“ but these Israelis are quite literally fighting for their lives. they are literally fighting for their very right to exist as a nation. They have everything to lose, and they will not wish what is rightfully theirs.
The various Arab nations are not even willing to let them live let alone exist as a nation. The Israelis know for a fact that if they ever lose, a few things are going to happen. Firstly, the nation of Israel will be destroyed. Secondly, it’s entirely likely that every single Israeli citizen will either be killed or forced to flee again. Essentially the Israelis are fighting to prevent another holocaust.
The sad part, though in my opinion, at least is the fact that these Israelis have regularly made offerings for peace and everything that have actually been let’s just say better for the other countries.
One great example is after the Yom Kippur war I think or maybe it was the six day war but I’m not entirely sure. The Israelis decided to completely withdraw from the Sinai peninsula. And they gave it back to the Egyptians. And it actually did help for a while. The Egyptian leadership was one of the first of the Arab nations to actually officially recognize Israel. Unfortunately, this didn’t go over too well with some of his Moore hardline cabinet members and other folks. And at a believe it was a military parade a couple of years later was assassinated.
Now the Goulon Heights, that’s a completely different can of worms and I’m not going to go into it because well dealing with these things can be very very delicate

As an Israeli, I can say that back then, the Israeli citizens and soldiers were indeed very driven to defend Israel. There are many reason for this, one of the biggest one is that they fought for survival, with fresh WW2 memories in their minds, most of them had nowhere to retreat, and no where to run. Things changed a lot since then, sure we still do have a very powerful modern military force, but the mind set have changed a lot. We can clearly see it with the recent events, while many Israelis return to Israel in order to help and fight, there are actually more Israelis leaving the country. The quality of the regular soldiers dropped by a lot, while the elite divisions are growing stronger. The main problem Israel is currently have with its military, is racism. There is a clear discrimination of Russians, Israeli Arabs, Ethiopians, and other minorities. The elite divisions have a very tiny percentage of these minorities within them, as most are recruited to logistics such as truck drivers and other low quality tasks that the native Israelis refuse to do. And the minorities know it, its just something that everybody knows but nobody talks about. The result is that many young men and women choose to leave Israel before, during, or soon after the military service. Those that stay, usually do so because they have nowhere to go. Most of my friends that served in IDF, are currently living abroad, with their wife and kids. I would of did the same thing, but I developed a severe PTSD when I was young and I am almost completely dependant on the state for survival.

Now 66, I was 9 years old and downright scared by that war. My father had been approved for transfer from his station at the US Naval Academy to US Naval base in Gaeta. Didn't mean he'd accepted it. Giving up the Naval Academy stretch of 20 years would have been of little positive value. He chose to leave well-enough alone. I recall some rumblings about the possibility of nuclear war being triggered by that conflict. It was bad timing because I'd discovered the 50-yr old landfill my great grandfather had started around 1910. I found MANY Civil Defense books and manuals....... some of which someone of my impressionable age would find exceedingly horrifying. I spent countless episodes of fearing the contrails high above.

If you calculate 20 minutes of return and 8 minutes of the pass and another 20 minutes to return back to the target, that will make it an hour.
