RV Wallpaper Removal - Our RV Renovation

  • [0.2] We decided to remove the wallpaper instead of painting over it while renovating our RV. Here are some of the methods and products that worked, as well as some of the ones that didn't.
Please keep in mind, we are not experts, so it would be wise not to use this video as your only resource. This series is more about us getting used to RV life and the process of documenting it all, and is not meant to be proper episodes, more like pilot--or beta--episodes. However, we do try to make them a little informative and hopefully somewhat entertaining. We officially go live with real episodes based on travel in April of 2020.

Thank you for making this video. We are upgrading a 1981 park model. The walls were redone but the vinyl paper on the ceiling has ripped and shrunk due to the AZ hot summers (we snow bird so we aren’t here in the extréme heat. We have tried all the ways you mentioned to remove, and the heat is the only thing that works. Thank you, thank you, thankyou!!! I am so glad i found you and this video. Good luck on your restoration. You are probably done by now.

Hey, how much you charge? I'm ready so ready to try. I'm guessing one of those heat guns might work too - more power.💡

I think I would heat up the corner then peel it. I'm about to strip my RV wall paper. Thanks for the tip!!!

They make a smaller scraper that just holds razor blade. The big ones are for vinyl on a large wall in a dwelling. Careful SAFTEY FIRST!⚕️

Awesome! Now I do have a question! Once you’ve peeled the wallpaper was the wall a bit tacky and sticky still? Is the sanding afterwards supposed to clear that? I’ve run into this problem in mine. The wall is a bit tacky once I removed the wallpaper.

Ours was not tacky, it just depends on the type of wallpaper and the wall it is on.

Sanding with fine grain paper should do it. Try goo be gone on towel for stubborn spot. I always kiltz paneling before painting. There's a paper prep for wallpaper too.

After you removed the wallpaper we have considerable adhesive residue on the luan. Any suggestions on how to remove it?

We did not have any residue left over after removing our wallpaper. From what I've come to understand long after we made this video is that there are two types: one where the wallpaper is put in after the walls are up (like ours) and another where the wallpaper is put on the panels before the they go on the walls, essentially making it part of the wall. Unfortunately it sounds like you've got the latter of the two, which ends up being more work. I recommend seeking advice in a few RV remodeling Facebook groups if you're still having trouble.

The pandemic destroyed our plans, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Soon we'll be back on the road and making videos again.
