    You are a refreshing perspective - and much of what you've said here (and in other videos, etc.) is either how I tend to view this whole enterprise or, if not, really resonates with me and leaves me with some amazing take-aways. Thank you!
    Keep doing what you're doing. I'm here for the long haul and look forward to seeing much, much more.

    “I am way too empathetic to be a copywriter.” I feel like my daily thoughts just came out of your face. Thank goodness I didn’t have to say it.

    I am just starting out and find myself vacillating between:
    "I love copywriting, this is what I've been searching for my entire life, I am finally developing a skill I can get paid for while working from anywhere in the world."
    and:
    "OMFG, everyone is becoming a copywriter now, I'm so stupid for doing this."
    Is this normal? 😅

    • @JacobMcMillen
      @JacobMcMillen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha that's fair. It's become a much more visible career path over the last 5 years in particular.
      Just keep in mind that competition isn't a bad thing. The easiest business to start is one that lots of people are already succeeding with. It just means the demand is there.
      Plus, you don't really lose anything by trying to become a copywriter. You learn how to write better. You learn how to sell yourself better. There are no big upfront costs.
      If you decide it's not for you after giving it a try... you just end up with some extra skills development.

    Hey man, I thoroughly enjoy your TH-cam channel and you are actually my #1 source for copy info. Just some developmental feedback (coming from a place of love): It’s getting a little more tougher to watch your videos because of the profanities of recent. I’ve noticed couple of your latest videos have incorporated them. But hey, I legitimately get it: we gotta switch it up sometimes for the algorithm masters, but I honestly believe that the value from your content are truly strong enough without profanities. This is not me telling you what to do, it’s just a humble observation and hopefully to encourage you. Take it easy bro.

    • @JacobMcMillen
      @JacobMcMillen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Timi, while I appreciate the respectful tone, it always feels a little offensive when people assume I'm pandering on the occasions I post content with more profanities. The reality for myself and many others is that we spend most of our time catering to the small segment of people offended by profanity and spend a lot of time self-censoring for your benefit. Sometimes, I'm just over that shit, and for whatever reason, I'm in a mood to be myself and post content that sounds like what you'd hear if we were talking to me in person. That's what you are getting here. Me being me. If you don't personally like profanity, than that's valid feedback, and I welcome any and all feedback about what you'd personally like to see or not see on my channel.. Expressing distaste through making assumptions about my motives, however, is unnecessary.
      Best!

    • @timi8704
      @timi8704 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JacobMcMillen Hey Jacob, thanks for taking the time to provide a thoughtful response. I appreciate that. I do sincerely apologise for making the assumption-very sorry there. My intent wasn’t to cause offence. I rarely post comments on TH-cam but I pushed myself to do so because I’m just very passionate about you, and the value you provide so please forgive me for my over zealousness.
      From your response, I’ve now come to understand that you’re just striving to be yourself and I appreciate your perspective on this matter.
      You assumed that the profanities offended me but if you check my comment, I actually never said that. They do however make me feel uncomfortable and uneasy, hence my statement that they are making your videos more difficult for me to watch.
      In general, I just don’t understand why people feel the need to be vulgar unnecessarily, because the point(s) they are trying to make would still be successfully communicated and VALID, without the use of profanity.
      Now, let’s not get it twisted: I’m not condemning you or anyone else because, I was the Chief of vulgarity (amongst other craziness and nastiness) in my past life so to “write you off” or condemn (it’s not like I have the right to do this anyway) would be a great sin on my part.
      In my previous life, the core of my philosophy was “being my authentic self” and “evolve or die”- these were the tagline of my personal development website and somehow, being my “authentic self” involved cursing and using a lot of profanities. However, I’ve been a new person since the 18th of January 2019, and part of my new nature made me extremely sensitive to profanities, so much so that I had to shut down a [my] decently performing self improvement website because it was just too uncomfortable for me to even read my own materials without cringing.
      I highlight the above to hopefully stress that I can somewhat relate to your sentiment of you simply wanting express yourself and as such, I am not condemning you or others. Instead, I just want to reiterate these 2 points:
      1) Your art, creativity, and speech will still be effective, and valid without vulgarity.
      2) You never know who is watching; personally for me, once again, I am not offended. I’m just uncomfortable. And It’s such shame because it means I cannot champion your brand as much as I would like.
      I thank you for welcoming any and all feedback. This is a great attitude to have.
      Keep up the good work man.
      (P.s., I am happy to clarify any aspect in my reply, and I welcome further dialogue)
      Stay blessed.

    I just started my journey to be a freelance writer .What is your advice

    • @JacobMcMillen
      @JacobMcMillen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience, demand for freelance writers goes up during a recession, because:
      - businesses cut fulltime jobs but still needs parts of those roles done and hiring freelancers is way cheaper
      - businesses have to reduce ad spend and try to make up ground in organic marketing (hire more blog writers)

    Hey Jacob,
    AI is the future. Why should I learn Copywriting now, if one day everyone will do it at their own with a software? How do you think about this?

    • @JacobMcMillen
      @JacobMcMillen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Conceptually, one day, software might allow us to communicate telepathically with each other, so what's the point of learning to talk?
      Practically, I use AI right now to help me write and brainstorm faster. And I can tell you that the people using AI the most are the least worried about it taking over our jobs.

    • @forbez8900
      @forbez8900 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JacobMcMillen Good points. So you mean, the people which are using AI, know that AI will not replace us in the future?

    • @JacobMcMillen
      @JacobMcMillen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@forbez8900 yeah I'm working behind the scenes with CopyAI helping them build their tools, and I have zero worries about being replaced by what we are building.
      The day that AI can create better than humans is the day that having our work replaced stops being relevant, for better or worse.

    • @JacobMcMillen
      @JacobMcMillen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't need my course to land your first client. Just read my blog post on writing website copy or my post on email copy, and then pitch writing either of those as a service to people until someone hires you for $50-$200. Then follow the instructions in my post to deliver the copy.
      Doesn't have to be amazing. Just has to be more clear than what the business owner can write themselves (which is usually a very low bar).
