I think his base is pretty insane for a first base either way.
Remember he has *never* played this game before.
I don't care if there's more impressive bases out there, at *his* experience level this is quite literally *insanely* good.

4:30 The two small creatures swimming are axolotls, you can put them in an iron bucket and carry them around. If you keep playing this game, you might get to a point where they will help you do something, which I'm not going to spoil what it is.
7:46 Yes, that's your XP level. As you do various tasks such as mining, smelting, breeding animals, and killing monsters (which is the most effective way of getting XP), the bar underneath the number slowly fills up, and once it's full the number increases. This is used for a very powerful thing later in the game, after you find diamonds. You also lose all your XP on death.
When you press F3, you can see a bunch of stats including how many days have passed since the creation of the world, and your XYZ position (which will be helpful for knowing whether you're deep enough to find diamonds)
9:16 You can change your controls in the settings if you want
14:04 Yep, one of the best ways (and definitely the most fun way) to learn how to play Minecraft is by just making things, you'll get used to it eventually
18:09 That's good for a first base in my opinion. My first base was just a wooden cube that I kept making larger whenever I needed more space
Also have you played Terraria? If you haven't, you should give it a try, it's a great game. People who haven't played it usually think it's just 2D Minecraft, and I was one of those people until recently when I started playing Terraria. It actually has much more content than Minecraft, and even though it has one less dimension than Minecraft you can make better looking bridges.

  • @KingNedya
    @KingNedya 3 ปีที่แล้ว +497

"Is this what Minecrafters do, they do like temporary scaffolding with dirt?"
Yeah you're right on the money, that's exactly what we do. Sure there's an actual scaffolding block, but that can be difficult to find the materials for (it requires bamboo and string, and bamboo can only be found in bamboo forests, which are pretty rare), so dirt it is.

-Holding a block to place while holding a tool to mine
-Holding a torch while you mine
    -Reading maps while you're attacking
It's generally helpful. Pressing F again will move it back to your main hand (right hand). Use it!

Most people's first bases are just dirt huts or holes in the side of the mountain so I'd say you're doing pretty good. One piece of advice: A common problem for newer minecraft players is getting lost. If you press f3 you can see your coordinates on the left hand side. Take a screenshot of that when you're at your base and you'll always be able to find your way back.

Some good simple tips for getting easy setups in minecraft.
    1. Always set up and replenish your resource farms.
    2. Crouching prevents walking off ledges, but you can still get knocked off.
    3. Unless you have disabled fire spreads, don't use wood for building.
    4. Set up a book farm asap, you will need it later.
    5. Fishing is extremely important and useful. You get food, enchanted gear / books, and xp.
    6. You can combine most tools and armor in your inventory to repair them together, this will disenchant gear. Use the anvil to keep / combine things that are enchanted.
    7. Sleep often

Here's a tip for ya: You can get more carrots by crafting a hoe and tilling farmland, then right clicking the carrot into the farmland and waiting (make sure it has water), after a long enough time (usually several in-game days), it should be fully grown, this also works for any 'seeds' with regular seeds creating wheat
*Id Suggest looking at the wiki for growth cycles of carrots so you don't accidentally break it too early*

  • @kailomonkey
    @kailomonkey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +50

Carrots can be hard to come by at times. You should put your last one in the ground to grow I find them very useful food to farm. You need a hoe you don't need water nearby but it helps it grow faster I think if water is a couple blocks away.
Love the engineering/architect project. I innevitably engineer more in the game than architect where practicality doesn't look great but I do try (and fail) to make things to just look nice. The game is open to however you want to play and the crane is a cool idea that's definitely unique to you! Just how you structure your base or your mining I'd call engineering, making contraptions to auto-farm and stuff is a next level of engineering, then there's some complicated multi-stage machines you can create yourself from redstone and pistons (for example) that's the advanced industrial engineering!
Regarding dirt scaffold/mould yes we all do that I think. I saw some iron when you were swimming back up the waterfall. Up until then yes it was troubling to watch where you couldn't remember the controls lol and also just diving down to explore I just couldn't play that way. I'd be checking I have enough dirt and torches and building a way to get back up as I go, lighting the walls and never dropping 2+ blocks if I can help it!
I'm sure it used to be normal to 'keep inventory' on death too and just lose xp/levels (which you don't need except for enchanting later on I think). Dropping all stuff scares me from exploring even more! At least before if I died the worst that could happen is I may lose track of where I was if there was something there worth getting to.

If you shift click when you are pulling things out of the crafting table you can pull as many items out of the table at once as you have room/material for.
When you were in the cave you ran into a glow squid (which you got the glow ink from- you can make glowing text on signs with it) and axolotl. The Axolotl will help you in fights. You can 'tame' them by picking them up in a water bucket. They can survive in the bucket indefinitely. They need to live in the water but can be out of it for a little while before they start losing health.
If you put a campfire under the beehive you can harvest the honey or honeycomb (bottle or shears, respectively) or break the beehive without the bees attacking you. Bees die if they sting you and will go into attack mode if you harvest their hive or from their hive without smoke underneath it (although you can harvest it if the bees are all in the hive at night). A hive can hold 3 bees. You can breed bees with any flowers.
You can grow any of the crops (beats, wheat, carrots, potatoes) in hydrated soil. The soil has to be within 4 blocks of a water source at the same height. Then you till the dirt with a hoe and plant the crop.
If you hold crouch while on high blocks you won't fall off- although stairs can mess with your level and you can fall off a stair.
For building underneath something, get a bucket of water and pour it off the side. You can swim down and get an angle to post underneath... be ready though. You may fall out of the water. Aim to land in the water or get back in the column, and don't drown in the column.

Tip,you can hit f and swap what you are holding to your left hand, good for torches, also you can put logs in the furness to make charcoal, also get cows, they need wheat, and drop leather and steak, also if you see something light blue in mines, USE IRON PICKAXES, also if you are falling and hit something it will crit, so jumping and WHACKING something is very powerful. Also make a bucket and get some water in a small hole, and use a hoe (hehehehe) on the dirt around it and shove some carrots, potatoes, beets (maybe not beets), or wheat seeds you get from smacking the tall grass, and taller grass. BONUS TIP : if you put a carpet on a fence you can jump on it but animals and such won't because they think, hmm there is a fence so I cannot jump past it, but you can just jump onto the fence, great for farms.

There is an engineering aspect of Minecraft too, using Redstone. And yes, dirt scaffolding is how most people do it starting out. There is a scaffolding block but it's a relatively recent addition and not as easy to get as dirt, so dirt is the norm when you first start a world. The bar at the bottom with the number 7 is your XP bar and the number is your level, you use levels for enchanting items later in the game.
Also items lying on the ground disappear after 5 minutes. And to get more carrots you should make a hoe. Use it on dirt near water and plant your carrot there, it'll grow and when you harvest it you'll get multiple carrots

Tip: In the late game you can go to a jungle and collect bamboo to make a farm (if you find one for some reason they super rare). If you also combine bamboo with strings you can make scaffolding. Its like a ladder but you can stack it easier and also has horizontial placement. if you break the bottom then all the blocks above will also break. you can use it instead of dirt.

Also, nice work on your first base (bit overengineered, but I like that), yes "nerdpoles" and dirt scaffolding is a staple of minecraft...
Also, having a coal miner in your family, you'd think you'd know charcoal doesn't come in underground veins (charcoal is carefully burned wood)...

RCE!!! the number at the bottom is indeed XP levels! I'll not spoil what they're good for though. You might consider making a farm so you dont run out of carrots, and/or planting saplings to regrow the trees you cut down. There is in existence a block called scaffolding, as well, though you'd probably have quite the time trying to get hold of any.

I think you should make a stonecutter. It'll help in your building. You should also start farming your carrots, so make a hoe and also a bucket so you can make infinite water (2x2).
The little creatures you saw in the cave are axolotls, and they will fight for you in the water if you scoop them up in a water bucket and bring them with you.
Chains are made from iron ingots and iron nuggets, so they're pretty easy to make.
I also would recommend checking out a lantern, which is just iron nuggets and a torch.
