    In this Rare Cars documentary, we are jumping into the history of one of the most unique and jaw dropping cars ever to be designed by an American automaker, the one-off Ford GT90.
    This quad turbocharged 6.0L V12 beast was to become the new halo car for the Ford brand and revive the insane reputation that the GT40 had in a new futuristic supercar that utilized much of the Jaguar and Ford parts bins to create a truly radical looking supercar with over 700hp on tap!
    But with such pedigree behind it and a drivetrain/powerplant that rivaled even the fastest cars in the world, why did the GT90 never reach its production heyday?

    I discovered the GT90 in NFS2. For being a 90s concept car, I think it still looks nice and crisp, and would not look odd within the hypercars of nowadays. It's too bad that Ford never used that 90deg V12 in their own line up...
    Anyway, great video!
    And yes, new edge design was a thing!

    Is it possible for one to make a replica? I’m thinking of spending a few hundred thousands on a Ruffian GT90 replica.
    [Some Lore]
    I was introduced to this car back in 2004 when Sega GT 2002 was released. I lived in a rural town in the Philippines where technology wasn’t common. Radios, old box TVs, and fridges were the most common household tech. My dad worked abroad and would return after 6 or 7 months, spending only about a week with us. He would bring loads of gifts, from chocolate and clothes to toys. One day, he came home with an Xbox, and my life changed the moment I inserted the JSRF and Sega GT 2002 discs into that console.
    After a few weeks of grinding, I finally unlocked this white vehicle, the GT90, and I fell in love with it. It became my all-time favorite car until I discovered the internet and saw photos of the Lamborghini Murciélago. Both cars are my all-time dream cars, and I hope that one day I can borrow the GT90, do a full scan and analysis, and create a 1:1 replica.

    I think it's pretty sharp especially for today. The quad turbo means probably no lag and a punch in the low and mid RPM, perfect as a track car and street driving. The question would be.. how hard does it come on and does it stick? I bet they got it just right. It also makes sense why they didn't go exotic while having other brands to manage. Cool video. Nice car.

    This was my dream car for years because it was the mythical unlockable in the N64 game Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA and looked incredible in groundbreaking (at that time in the late 90s) full 3D glory and novel arcade physics (giant step up from Cruis'n USA and Need For Speed). I later liked the New Edge Mustang because it was the more attainable relative with small retro 60s Mustang design references before Mustang went full retro with the S197. 25 years later (after owning a series of only Japanese imports ever since I could drive), I now daily drive the discontinued S550 V6 Mustang (manual) with a C8 Corvette Z51 for weekends. So this GT90 video is full circle nostalgic for me.

    I remember when the gt90 was revealed and knew it would never be but wished it would. Ford would never lose that much money trying to make a halo car. Four turbos on a hightech v12 would never be a profitable vehicle so Ford would never make it. Now the Ford GT using a production supercharged quad cam V8 would be considerably cheaper and had a chance (well was actually made) of being a production vehicle.
    FYI the Jag 220 chassis was sold to Nissan for the r390 race car and homologation road car.

    I am enjoying your vids, but ….
    You need to leave your American comfort zone and head down under.
    We have many unique low volume cars that would fit perfectly in your channel - and be unknown to a lot of your viewers. I am here for the obscure stuff I know nothing about, I am thinking you have a lot of similar viewers.
    Here are a few suggestions:
    Bolwell (the manufacturer) Nagari (the model) they have some other models, but the Nagari was the most successful - over 100 made from 1970 to 1974. Front engined with Ford V8 like the Italian coach builders and looks just as good as them!
    Giocattolo - a crazy mid engined version of the Alfa Sprint from 1986 with a stonking Holden 302 cube V8. 15 made 😁
    Ford Falcon XY GTHO - the ultimate Aussie homologation special. When released in 1970 was the fastest 4 door sedan IN THE WORLD! 300 made and now change hands for almost a million Aussie dollars.
    All of these have a lot of of presence on the internet so plenty of material available to craft your vid. And I want the rest of the world to acknowledge that we have made some ridiculous cars in Australia. 👍😀

    Considering Fords recent, and numerous, missteps, they should build this car, but devote a special team to it, like the old SVT division. They could make limited amounts with direct feedback from costomers for what they want, and not just what the bean-counters want.

    As an Aston Martin owner, and previous owner of the 6L V12 we are very thankful of the motor which largely kept Aston Martin alive. Interesting that in its final versions of N/A this motor was over 600hp, so as a quad turbo it would have been awesome and could have rivalled the Bugatti Veyron in ultimate boosted form.

    (To be honest, any change made to the gorgeous XJ220 is unlikely to be an improvement.)
    The recent Ford GT did an excellent job of reimagining the classic while actually taking significant steps to evolve the look.

    Noob question but what is the word for the maneuver at 7:47?

    • @stevenboykin116
      @stevenboykin116 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm no expert, but I wouldn't really call it a maneuver he basically just dumped the clutch for a quick turnaround. If you want to call it something, maybe a quick 180 power slide or a half doughnut, I guess? It's not hard to do if you have the power just rev up enough rpms to get the tires spinning when you dump the clutch turn the wheel then counter steer and let off the throttle when you're halfway through, the momentum should bring you around. I'm not suggesting that you try it, but if you do, want to figure it out go out in a field (that's where I learned) or an empty parking lot free from any obstacles or people to stay safe. Never do it around people like or you may look like a mustang leaving cars and coffee.

  • @jamesstaggs4160
    @jamesstaggs4160 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sure I get the reference and I think it was a terrible direction. I know the "new edge" SN95 is thought of as the better looking car but I much prefer the older model. No Ford from the new edge era looks good to me, which sucks because it seems like modern designers are aping that style with a bunch of lines and triangles everywhere. Looks like a geometry book threw up.

    • @stevenboykin116
      @stevenboykin116 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, I always preferred the sleeker earlier SN-95 models. I don't know if it's a nostalgia thing from growing up in the 90s, but that's what I wanted for my first car. I didn't care for the nonfunctional hood scoop and vents. I just thought it was a little too much. I know a lot of people I hung around with called the earlier SN-95s "bitch cars" especially the v6, because in my area it was mostly women driving them. So maybe Ford was trying to add a more masculine design to it, but it just didn't appeal to me. Maybe I am a "bitch" because I liked the older models, and another "bitch car" I always wanted was a miata.

    @6:50 wrong..... the block was cobbled together from 2 4.6 liter modular V8's that were used in SN95's and pather's (mustangs and LTD's) that had cylinders 1 and 2 cut off of one and 7 and 8 cut off the other then the blocks were mated and fused. raw math puts displacement at 6.9(nice) liters. the only way it would have been 6.0 is if they destroked it, which would mean a different crank and or rods. unlikely.... i think you need to fact check this literage claim...
