My mom sent me the Calling All Cooks Cookbook (AT&T Pioneers Alabama Chapter No. 34) and this recipe is in it. I don’t recall my Granny ever making this cake, but my mom says she used this cookbook. I was feeling nostalgic for my Granny’s cooking. None of us ever wrote down her recipes before she passed away and I feel like true Southern cooking and baking is becoming a lost art. Thank you for your recipe. It’s exactly like how this cookbook has it. I’m a visual learner so it was nice to find a video to go with the written recipe.
My grandma made this. She got it from her mom. She let the apples brown in the bowl for a little while along with a spoon of sugar, idk why. Then added some flour to the apples and tossed, she said it keeps the moisture of the apples in the cake from being off. I have tried both ways and she was right it makes a difference. She also added a little shredded coconut if she had it.
My Grandmother used to make this recipe! I'm anxious to try myself. Thanks for the help! I swear I could smell the glaze when you showed it cooking! Such wonderful memories!
I made the cake without glaze. It is delicious and sweet enough. Thumbs up. I would have liked to see the cake on the cake plate before you sliced it. Thank you.

Yeeesss! Loved this cake since I first tried it in the 1980's. Thanks so much for making it for us. LOVE your white nesting bowls btw 😍

I've made this cake and my family LOVES it!❤
Thank you for this nice and simple recipe! I made it today and came out awesome! I did also add half cup of golden raisins and cranberries. 😊

I’d be tempted to mix that stiff batter/dough with my hand once the apples are added.
I enjoyed watching this, you are very original and I love that!!! Thanks!
That caramel glaze on your made from scratch cake looks crazy good!
Have you ever tried substituting apple sauce in place of oil? I do that a lot to cut the fat.
