From time to time, Tom and Jerry would basically break the fourth wall and treat their shenanigans like actual episodes. There's at least two where tom and Jerry go to a movie theater and watch themselves on it. Like they know they're cartoons and another where they go to italy and meet a mouse who knows them from their cartoons.... Makes you question their universe....

Those were made by Chuck Jones, who was also the main animator for Looney Tunes. The original classics (like Heavenly Puss) were made by Fred Quimby.

Not to mention that they live on a damn island. They could leave their home and start their civilization somewhere else, learning from their mistakes. But no, we screwed him once and now everyone, including our children, must pay.
I guess the island could represent the entire planet, but the situation could also be interpreted as an anti-immigration message, such as "it's your problem, not ours."
God, that's infuriating. And also, there's an easy answer: learn to ensure animal survival for cultivation, incentivize the study into cleaner fuels, and GET THE HELL OFF THE ISLAND! Seriously, they should've found another island to make a new home; become partners with us Humans, even.

Thanos probably got his beliefs of making the world a better place by decreasing the population from that Captain Planet episode.

Thanos should've just made 3/4 of the population completely infertile past the point of IVF being able to help. That way he could save the human race without taking away people who had loved ones, friends, colleagues, dependents, etc. who would be devastated by the sudden loss.

What's (darkly) hilarious about Number 1 is that the man behind the series Captain Planet, Ted Turner, had FIVE KIDS when he produced this episode. Doesn't exactly practice what his TV series preaches, does he?

the ending of Mystery Incorporated sets up the original show where a lot of episodes just showed them driving somewhere, now we know it was to got see Harlon Ellison.

Yes actually, he cameoed as himself several times on Mystery Incorporated before he died.
Edit: My favorite thing from that scene is that the university he was inviting them to was Miskatonic University from the Lovecraft mythos.
But, it was seen in the beginning of the series that those events already happened. They made a reference to the Creeper in the Alice May episode.

So...you are saying that before the original show they actually fought against real supernatural creatures? and the ones in the original show are the Mystery incorporated ones but instead of being on a world with real monsters and ghosts they are in a more realistic world where this are just "legends" and made up stuff but they still believe in real monsters because they come from a world where they are real and not fictional?......huh, never saw the end of it like that before and this explains a lot of stuff from the original show indeed, man i never thought Scooby Doo from all cartoons were so complex and deep, another reason why Mystery Inc is the best Scooby Doo incarnation thus far.

The idea of a "population bomb" has been around for a very long time. Those who support it ignore the fact that whenever resources for living become scarce people either find new resources or ways to use existing resources more efficiently.
@@keithdean9149 The phrase refers to the explosion of human population growth that's happened since the advent of the Industrial Era, and the 1900s in particular; from one billion in 1900 to almost 8 billion 120 years later - that's only 6 generations. If one were looking at a faster-breeding species, there'd be no doubt that there's a population explosion going on, and that the human species is the species that is unbalanced. It was also a title of a book from the 1960s that people pooh-poohed, though it certainly wasn't wrong. The idea is that if humans don't stop increasing, they're just setting themselves up for disaster just like lemmings or rats. And hey, they WARNED us that things like "GMOs" would be neccessary to "feed the world" if you want every damn inbred/brain-damaged brat the turdwhirled spits out to survive for some damn reason.

I thought the _Powerpuff Girls_ episode "Speed Demon" was darker. The girls chased each other so fast that they travelled fifty years into the future. And in that future, HIM had taken over Townsville, and turned all of its citizens into traumatized fallout victims. We then see the citizens of Townsville turn on the girls, saying it was their fault for not protecting them.
Ryan Hartwell it is most likely because he’s talked about that episode a few times already. He probably didn’t want to keep bringing it up.

Also I watched his inspirational video about overpopulation. There's issues that it didn't bother to address such as consumption rates or the fact that more people influences climate change. It's not completely void of facts but come on, overpopulation really is an issue. Horrible population commentary at the end, Phantom.

Yeah agree. It's a means of survival, not malice.
Same with sex workers, they are paid for sex. Most of them probably groomed at a young age and abused by their partner/pimp. They are not all evil people or home wreckers. They are doing their job for survival and sometimes it's something they've only known in their life/know how to do. It's why human trafficking is a problem.

I think they were trying to get people to think about their actions.
That's actually how some people disposed of unwanted pets back in the time Tom And Jerry was being made. It's sad but now we can be a little happier that we have better animal welfare laws.
It wasn't the only Tom & Jerry cartoon to address the issue. There was a cartoon which opened up with a bag of puppies being thrown from a moving car (It was slow-moving, but still, the car was in freaking motion). Luckily Jerry was there to fish out the bag and open it. That actually turned into a really sweet episode because the puppy Jerry adopted won Tom over and invited his siblings to stay too (ensuring they all had a home to grow up in), but dang, they highlighted a serious issue.

For the Dexter's Lab episode I always kind headcanon it as being the "final episode", Deedee seeing a reflection of her own destructiveness and Dexter seeing how much he has to keep himself under control to function.
Just to let you know.
The people would not be happy without mystery incorporated. They were happy because the town isn’t cursed anymore and no more bad people in costumes are running around.
Since the tomb is broken and there aren’t monsters, Brad and Julie are able to stay and not search for treasure. Shaggy is able to cook since he loves food. Fred’s ex dad isn’t even his dad but a coach instead.
Everything wouldn’t be fine without mystery incorporated. Mystery incorporated was the one that put them in this alternate dimesion to begin with.
Yup, it was more supposed to be a "perfect" universe where nothing bad ever happened and everyone is happy. But it still was dark because Mystery Inc were complete strangers to this new world. That wasn't their reality and in truth, everyone they ever knew was dead and these "perfect" new versions of them were complete strangers

"The Flintstones On The Rocks" was dedicated to William Hanna who passed away in 2001 which was several months before the cartoon was aired. Joseph Barbera had passed away in 2006.
I was going to say that and it was also directed by Chris Savino, creator of The Loud House which also starred Grey Delisle.
Hannah Barbera : the last place you expected darkness.
Not if you were a child when the original "Jonny Quest" series premiered on prime time. Some of those episodes scared me. Also, let us not forget the original "Dark Water" before it was watered down into "Pirates of Dark Water".
He dont know Hanna Barbera do he? (Herculoids, Pirates of Dark Water, Thundercats Hernan etc.
Hannah Barbara has so much material, it should have it's own museum.
So does Hanna-Barbera: Animation Lookback, yet for some reason, despite having reviewed almost all the series by Hanna-Barbera there is, there are still Hanna-Barbers shows AniMat forgot to study Animation Lookback on like Captain Planet and even Pac-Man.
So, in one of the newer scooby doo movies, the blue falcon one, the back drop is a hanna Barbara comic con. My dad made me pause it like every other second so he could reminisce about his childhood shows.
Also, one of the mystery incorporated episodes uses old hb characters like the buggy and little hairy dude wth a club.
I'm surprised that Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island didn't get a mention as it's well known for being the darkest Scooby-Doo movie ever made, though that Mysteries Incorporated episode does look darker. Also the Captain Planet episode "Mind Pollution" is definitely a big contender since Linka's cousin freaking DIED from overdosing the drugs given by the villain, and unlike what happened in the Numbers Game episode (though the subject is still heavier), it's permanent.
Mind Pollution had been mentioned in a previous video he did.
What about the Captain Planet AIDS episode where the villain convinces the entire town to fear monger over this one young guy who has AIDS and completely shun him from society, so much so that his brother gets beaten up because he’s a brother. It’s kind similar to that Simpson’s episode with Bart being hated by everyone.
As much as I adore ZI, MI took me a bit to get into but the whole series is very dark. Much darker than any other scooby doo. But zombie island and witches ghost will always have a special place for me
I could never watch "The Heavenly Puss" as a child. I loved Tom as a child (fight me) and I like Jerry but Tom's slapstick, crazy plans to eat Jerry, and screams really got on my good side. So to watch Tom die, and then have to scramble and beg to Jerry for forgiveness was just sad to watch. The heaven cat's voice creeped me out as it told Tom through the clock that his time was up. And that scene where Tom runs towards the steps only to be brought down to Hell and drowned in magma only made me feel sorry for the guy. Tom has always been a jerk to Jerry but I never thought it warranted burning in the 8th level for all eternity.
There are many other dark Hanna-Barbera episodes that were completely overlooked: Scoobra Cadoobra, in which Maldor is a demon powerful enough to cast a sleeping spell on Daphne, and use his black magic in every possible evil way. The Fear, which marks the first time ever that Batman's origin story is told onscreen. Also from Galactic Guardians, The Death Of Superman. The Wings Of FEAR from Birdman, in which a FEAR agent threatens to blast an ambassador's head off. The Sacrifice from Dino Boy, which shows a very graphic onscreen death. The Stone Men from Mighty Mightor, in which the little mammoth Bollo runs with an arrow in his back. A Trap For Turhan, in which the male Arabian Knights are captured and sentenced to be executed.
I read somewhere it was the nature of those shows which stopped HB from making superhero or action/adventure cartoons and started to concentrate more on mystery stuff like Scooby Doo, Inch High Private Eye and Goober and the Ghost Chasers or the more comedic nonsense of Jabberjaw, Hong Kong Phooey, Great Grape Ape, etc.
You missed "Boobooo Runs Wild" and "Scooby Doo/Supernatural".

I’m glad he talked about the Dexter’s Lab episode “Way of the Dee Dee”, I always have nostalgia for those episodes that offered a glimpse of a deeper depth and humanity to those characters that just left me wanting more.

Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated is an awesome series of Scooby Doo. Every villain is freaking terrifying and over half of them are actively trying to KILL the Mystery gang. And Come Undone just tops all of that. For years, I thought Scooby Doo on Zombie Island wouldn't be topped in the levels of creepiness in the Scooby Doo series but here I was proven wrong. I actually made a tradition to watch that series every Halloween starting from last year. Those who havent' watch it, definitely do! It's really good (though some things in the beginning can be rather irritating. You'll see what I mean)

Watching this after Saberspark's new video gives me a...really weird feeling now about Hanna-Barbera cartoons.
I never found the Tom and Jerry one all that disturbing as a child. Maybe it was because we were religious? But then again, wouldn't that have scared me even more? It seems like it'd reinforce how terrifying hell is and how hard the way to heaven is. Maybe I was just a fucked up kid. My first anime was Hell Girl after all.

Mystery Incorporated scared me as a kid. The idea of a Lovecraftianesque entity haunting space waiting to be released was terrifying to me.

My pleasure Blueracoon :) most modern cartoons are extremely careful of strobe or even white flashes but around the 90s shows were less careful. Up til the Pokemon electric soldier porygon episode anime could be even more careless. I never add anything even slightly epileptic into my videos though as I am also very photo sensitive

This reminds me so much of the Giver in a way and how this so called Utopia on the outside can be seen as a dystopia which kinda develops on the fact to me that this perfect world doesn’t exist and never will.
The ending of Mystery Incorporated brings back memories of Stone Ocean. Especially the whole “waking up in a new universe where the people you know are completely different” aspect.
Blue Cat Blues should've been on this list. Only certain things can freak me out and I only saw that episode a few months ago, but it actually chilled me to the bone. Like I refused to actually believe it. Seeing two beloved childhood characters seemingly commit something I'm so afraid of (suicide) was heartbreaking and terrifying.
I remember the Huckleberry Hound episode you mentioned from my childhood on a VHS my uncle had and I remember it scaring me and giving me nightmares after one viewing late at night when I was 6 or 7.
I grew up with it too. Loved that movie

I remember seeing this as a kid as well! The only other dark thing I could remember was the Jonny Golden Quest movie and some of the Scooby Doo TV movies

There were Flintstones episodes that went very dark. Fred’s life was threatened by mobsters. There was an episode where Fred dealt with a gambling addiction. Remember, the Flintstones was written for an adult audience, not just kids. It was the first ever prime time animated sitcom.

6: I watched the show. I love it. 😆 And, honestly, I enjoyed how it started all fine to, progressively, descend into cosmic horror. And the color schemes are pretty awesome. :D
1: I had to pause at 14:53. The whole overpopulation stuff sounds like an experiment done various times. It's the experiment that inspired story for 'The Secret of Nihm'. And, yes, it involved rats. :/
