For the same reason Bonnie & Joe and Peter & Lois, who are miserably married, never just get divorced. Come to think of it, I can't think of any character in Family Guy that is actually happy and content with their life. I get that the show is supposed to be a dark comedy, and that's why no one in the show ever has a happier life, but after 20+ years of this writing, you think the show could subvert its own narrative for a change?

It’s tragic, really. I feel like Meg has the potential to be one of ,if not, the, most interesting character in Family Guy. Think about it. How is Meg’s life affected by all the abuse she gets when she finally gets away from abuse? How will she handle people who are actually nice to her. Interesting scenarios that they are not willing to explore. So sad...
Something that annoys me a bit about adult cartoons is that they feel the need to have all sex, violance and drug jokes just because their an "adult" cartoon. You can make jokes that aren't about sex, murder, drugs and etc. Early family guy proved that

Though I absolutely agree that Bojack Horseman is the better show, make no mistake, Family Guy did have that "Brian and Stewie" episode where they were locked in the bank vault and Brian opened up as to why he had a gun in his safe. That was very well done (and one of my personal favourite episodes) and it's just a shame that none of the dramatic attempts since then have come close!
Honestly though. Even South Park handles dramatic and sad situations better than Family Guy could, and it's also a show full of gross out humor HDHF. Bojack will always be the best at it, but South Park is definitely a decent example of a show very similar to family guy that knows how to handle sadder issues while adding jokes to it.
The “Better Off Meg” episode could’ve been a great way to send off Meg’s character in case Mila Kunis wanted an out if they had ended it the way Strider wanted
I miss the OG Family Guy when Peter wasn't violent, Brian being a good-natured dog, Stewie trying to kill Lois, Lois as a great piano teacher, and Meg being treated as an equal.
Yeah those are the variations of Family Guy characters I'd rather be in the same room with. I'm uncomfortable with the modern Peter, Lois and Brian ones if they did exist.
There should be an episode where see never goes home, gets some food from Quiznos, THAT would be a a good close to Meg's arc. And goes to Quiznos and she has a happy life and can find her love., Also Future Brian in the episode where Stewie removes his Griffin DNA frick time travel logic, Brian realises he's an idiot and trying to better himself would be a good close to his arc!

Meg's crush Kent calls her a psycho even though he probably wanted to rape Chris or he expected Chris to be asleep so he can wake him up, the watered down rapists Meg and Kent are.

One of my favorites (if not my favorite) is the episode called "Brian and Stewie". It takes place in a vault with brian and Stewie, Brian wanting to grab something out of the vault and Stewie wanting to return a sweater. They end up getting stuck in the vault as it locks them in and they have to stay in the bank over the weekend. A whole bunch of shit goes down with just the two of them and it stays that way the entire episode. There's this rly gross scene it in that I don't like involving stewies diaper (I won't go into much detail lol) but other than I loved every second of this episode. There's a really heart felt conversation the two have when Stewie finds out Brian is suicidal and they bond like I've never seen in the show before. The episode also includes no theme song or no background music. There's a rly good review on yt of them called "how the episode "brian and Stewie" made me love family guy" by Alpha Jay that I recommend checking out
Even though I love family guy, everyone can see that it’s been dropping off in quality for a long time avd they’re just not trying anymore. I still watch it for the older episodes as well as the Stewie and Brian episodes.

17:32 i honestly love the fact that the writers always write ida as like, a genuinely good human being, probably one of the most morally upstanding out of the whole cast-- they got the cheap jokes about her out of the way early and let her be a character instead of just "haha trans" and that's surprisingly mature for this show
I stopped watching Family Guy a million years ago. But Better of Meg would've been a great way to write her character out of the show, especially utalizing something like the ending you came up with. It was clear after season two or three that they didn't know how towrite her, and were only kicking her can down the road. So this would've been a great way to not have to deal with that anymore.
tbh I would LOVE a Spinoff with Meg. Like they did with Daria from Beavis and Butthead. Or even make it a like a Timeskip with Mega as a young Woman - maybe in College or something.

I am just glad people like the old episodes which proves it’s a good show and that liking the show does not make me a bad person. I have lots of guilty pleasures but there are shows that I hate that people like. I just have a bad time finding differences between opinion and fact because of how the internet are so loud when expressing what they feel about a show to the point that it makes me insecure as a person to dare disagree without getting backlash
Tho it might not be a modern Family Guy episode, I think that “And then there were fewer” is an actually really good episode! It does some well done jokes about mystery tropes, and the ending is unexpected, as well as Dian’s backstory and plan A really underrated episode

yeah the only bad part is that to watch an episode of a season post season 19 i have to watch the entire season for a couple of jokes to make sense but besides that i like them
Meg is personally my favorite character. Although most if not all characters are just bland or just caricatures of what they used to be (funny cause they're caricatures of a plain ol American family to begin with), Meg still feels relatable. She needs more episodes I think. More done right and not like #1 worst.
My favorite episode of modern Family Guy has to be Candy Quahog Marshmallow. Where Peter, Joe and Cleveland sing a Kpop song to convince Quagmire to come back from South Korea. Every character fits in with their original personalities, and nothing about the episode is sad, or miserable. It feels like a classic Family Guy episode involving a love story, without any cutaways.

I remember watching an episode about derby and in that episode Chris was very concerned about Meg's well-being. He even pushed her away from the danger and got really hurt. I used too...but it lost it's thrill when my parents deemed I was old enough to watch it and then as I got even more older I began to realize, I just liked it for the thrill of not being captured, the taboo of watching it
Goddamn, I gotta admit I gave up on Family Guy quite a few years ago but when I watched "Dog Bites Bear" I found it genuinely great & very heartwarming.
My favorite modern episode is “JOLO.” After Peter his honored for unintentionally saving the life of a missing kid, joe feels like a failure as a person. Where he starts to live life to the fullest, and invites Peter, Quagmire, and Cleveland on a trip to Niagara Falls, where he attempts to commit suicide. But after saving his friends’ lives from a tram accident which nearly lead to them falling over Niagara, joe realizes that life is worth living after all. Definitely a family guy episode for the good book.
too many people relate to you and there are people like me that dont bring family guy down just because it has some modern jokes in it and some unfunny parts because deep down they are still good but just not as good.

One of my favorite modern episodes is "A lot going on upstairs" because, like "dog bites bear", it moves the emotional relationship between Brian and Stewie farther, as stewie admits brian is more of a father figure to him than peter, and he is scared of disappointing him. and the nightmare sequences are just incredible.
I honestly think family guy should of ended at season 8. While there are still some half decent modern episodes, it just needs to end, because Seth MacFarlane just obviously doesn’t care anymore.
I think I read somewhere that said Seth tried to end family guy by killing off Brian but fox and the fans hated him for killing off Brian so he couldn’t end the series.
Random Person ikr Seth actually said the reason why he made the season 8 episode Brian and Stewie is because he thought it was gonna be the last episode of the show, and honestly it would’ve been better if that was the case, but the idiots at FOX wouldn’t allow it to end. Same goes for the simpsons, which will probably run till the world ends.
It would have been way better if for the rest of the show, they kept Meg living her new life, meeting new friends, actually being accepted somewhere. I know it wouldn't exactly be Family Guy-ish. But at least it would have been touching, and she would have gotten some justice.

For "Send in Stewie Please" it did at least give Stewie some character development, even though it did feel unnecessarily cruel in the end. I actually didn't know it was Ian Mckellen who played the therapist.
Not really. Yeah we learn that Stewie's voice is not his real voice and a few of his insecurities but it means nothing since the person who knows his secrets died and the show isn't known for it's character growth continuity.
Honestly, the Meg Episode could’ve been a great start off for a spin off that would’ve been maybe pretty decent on its own it they hadn’t had Meg return back to the family. I feel like the spin-off is kind of dead rly so would’ve been interesting to see that and had the spin off be Meg had her own show with the roommates and all and all types of shenanigans and her trying not to be found by her old family but again, family guy so def would’ve never happened
Either that, or just a way to send Meg off the show, happily. It'd fix everything. The writers wouldn't have to struggle (because they can't write good female characters, by their own admission), Meg would finally get a happy ending, and all the constant Meg abuse jokes would finally be over. But of course we can't have nice things. It's Family Guy, after all.
There was a sad modern episode revolving around Christmas and it happened after Brian’s death and his replacement. Basically, Stewie is just very upset that he lost Brian. There is a moment in the episode where Stewie gets asked what he wants for Christmas and Stewie says “I just want my best friend back”. And he begins to feel guilty over Brian’s death. But then Stewie goes on this epic journey to try and reverse the past and keep Brian from getting run over. Brian and Stewie really are the perfect duo

One of my favorites (if not my favorite) is the episode called "Brian and Stewie". It takes place in a vault with brian and Stewie, Brian wanting to grab something out of the vault and Stewie wanting to return a sweater. They end up getting stuck in the vault as it locks them in and they have to stay in the bank over the weekend. A whole bunch of shit goes down with just the two of them and it stays that way the entire episode. There's this rly gross scene it in that I don't like involving stewies diaper (I won't go into much detail lol) but other than I loved every second of this episode. There's a really heart felt conversation the two have when Stewie finds out Brian is suicidal and they bond like I've never seen in the show before. The episode also includes no theme song or no background music. There's a rly good review on yt of them called "how the episode "brian and Stewie" made me love family guy" by Alpha Jay that I recommend checking out
The whole suicide scene is beatiful. No music, no jokes, no gags.. Just serious stuff.

I stopped watching Family Guy a million years ago. But Better of Meg would've been a great way to write her character out of the show, especially utalizing something like the ending you came up with. It was clear after season two or three that they didn't know how towrite her, and were only kicking her can down the road. So this would've been a great way to not have to deal with that anymore.

I am just glad people like the old episodes which proves it’s a good show and that liking the show does not make me a bad person. I have lots of guilty pleasures but there are shows that I hate that people like. I just have a bad time finding differences between opinion and fact because of how the internet are so loud when expressing what they feel about a show to the point that it makes me insecure as a person to dare disagree without getting backlash

Meg is personally my favorite character. Although most if not all characters are just bland or just caricatures of what they used to be (funny cause they're caricatures of a plain ol American family to begin with), Meg still feels relatable. She needs more episodes I think. More done right and not like #1 worst.

My favorite episode of modern Family Guy has to be Candy Quahog Marshmallow. Where Peter, Joe and Cleveland sing a Kpop song to convince Quagmire to come back from South Korea. Every character fits in with their original personalities, and nothing about the episode is sad, or miserable. It feels like a classic Family Guy episode involving a love story, without any cutaways.

Goddamn, I gotta admit I gave up on Family Guy quite a few years ago but when I watched "Dog Bites Bear" I found it genuinely great & very heartwarming.
My favorite modern episode is “JOLO.” After Peter his honored for unintentionally saving the life of a missing kid, joe feels like a failure as a person. Where he starts to live life to the fullest, and invites Peter, Quagmire, and Cleveland on a trip to Niagara Falls, where he attempts to commit suicide. But after saving his friends’ lives from a tram accident which nearly lead to them falling over Niagara, joe realizes that life is worth living after all. Definitely a family guy episode for the good book.

One of my favorite modern episodes is "A lot going on upstairs" because, like "dog bites bear", it moves the emotional relationship between Brian and Stewie farther, as stewie admits brian is more of a father figure to him than peter, and he is scared of disappointing him. and the nightmare sequences are just incredible.
Those sequences are much more better than the ones in "Seahorse Seashell Party"
I honestly think family guy should of ended at season 8. While there are still some half decent modern episodes, it just needs to end, because Seth MacFarlane just obviously doesn’t care anymore.
I think I read somewhere that said Seth tried to end family guy by killing off Brian but fox and the fans hated him for killing off Brian so he couldn’t end the series.

It would have been way better if for the rest of the show, they kept Meg living her new life, meeting new friends, actually being accepted somewhere. I know it wouldn't exactly be Family Guy-ish. But at least it would have been touching, and she would have gotten some justice.

Not really. Yeah we learn that Stewie's voice is not his real voice and a few of his insecurities but it means nothing since the person who knows his secrets died and the show isn't known for it's character growth continuity.

Honestly, the Meg Episode could’ve been a great start off for a spin off that would’ve been maybe pretty decent on its own it they hadn’t had Meg return back to the family. I feel like the spin-off is kind of dead rly so would’ve been interesting to see that and had the spin off be Meg had her own show with the roommates and all and all types of shenanigans and her trying not to be found by her old family but again, family guy so def would’ve never happened
Either that, or just a way to send Meg off the show, happily. It'd fix everything. The writers wouldn't have to struggle (because they can't write good female characters, by their own admission), Meg would finally get a happy ending, and all the constant Meg abuse jokes would finally be over. But of course we can't have nice things. It's Family Guy, after all.
Oh my god I absolutely hated better off meg episode too as most people in the episode don’t really seem to care when they thought meg died.
There was a sad modern episode revolving around Christmas and it happened after Brian’s death and his replacement. Basically, Stewie is just very upset that he lost Brian. There is a moment in the episode where Stewie gets asked what he wants for Christmas and Stewie says “I just want my best friend back”. And he begins to feel guilty over Brian’s death. But then Stewie goes on this epic journey to try and reverse the past and keep Brian from getting run over. Brian and Stewie really are the perfect duo
