Engineer here. I think the priority here should be to release the revised filter assy unit to market, as any lint escapement deeper into heat pump unit cannot be ‘cleaned’ without disassembly.
Don’t know why the sealing the filter circumference with heat resistant sealant is discouraged. If the reduced air flow due to higher pressure loss across the filter is of concern, just retest for drying function and durability with the new configuration.

I'm very meticulous when it comes to maintaining my machine. What I found works really well is I use an air compressor to blow off any lint. Cleans it way better than what's shown in the video. I've done them both

Thank you!!! You just made me remember I forgot we recently got a compressor tool that blows the air but not the cold can type if that makes sense 😊 Like a blow dryer but cool air and stronger.
I have never enjoyed doing laundry until now. I've kept up with folding too! 😊 I’ll give a review soon but so far I love it and figured out how best to use it for us.
Call me crazy but I got 2 combo machines and put them side by side inches apart. The deep gray color is so slick looking.
I really appreciate your tip and I could always step outside to use the air blower out there too 😊
I am going to go try that. I also need to check if my narrow vacuum piece will fit to use that too. I do have a manual cleaner tool too so that’s a good tool to keep near the machines hanging on a wall hook.
Thanks again reminding me about carefully using an air tool on my deck 😁
(tip- about drying. For me the towels button is a higher dry instead of the normal button that is a medium dry. The normal button works better for me with maybe t-shirts but usually pants are in the wash with shirts or towels or linens so I’m usually using the towel button I think it is)
I am checking though if in the app I can make my own settings as I like normal for wash, but higher for drying which would be maybe a custom setting.
      Thanks again!

Our Combo was robustly designed to be fully capable of handling any lint that may make its way past the lint filter and accumulate on surfaces within the filter compartment while still operating with high efficiency. This is why we confidently offer a 5-year warranty on the heat exchanger. In the Owner’s Manual, we recommend periodic, gentle cleaning of the filter compartment using a vacuum with a slim crevice tool attachment or with our Appliance Brush Set (part number PM14X10056). The Combo provides notifications via the unit’s control panel when cleaning of the lint or foam filter is required. Typically, notification for the lint filter occurs every 5 cycles and notification for the foam filter occurs every 50 cycles. Because of the tech-forward design of our Combo, simply following the regular maintenance and maintenance intervals described in the Owner’s Manual will keep your unit running strong for years to come!

@@geappliances absolute BS. The amount of lint that gets beyond the removable filter it atrocious. And on the left side (pre-filter) there is an ENORMOUS building of lint. and if you just gave us a bigger opening, cleaning everything would be easy but it's super narrow and you risk damaging the fins if trying to clean the right side (post filter), and need a specialty vacuum attachment to get all the building on the left side (post filter) maybe for the $2500 we paid you could just ship up the proper cleaning tools which would save you tons on this 5 year warranty because the heat exchanger would last longer... and longer than 5 years it SHOULD last for the price.

@@geappliances The filter design is horrible. Way to much lint makes it past the filter. The opning is entirely too narrow to make cleaning easy. If you all don't want to fix your design flaw you should ship everyone the brushes and vacuum cleaner attachments.

I have the exact issue now with my Unit and they first sent fast appliance repair team to fix. He comes and says the Heat pump is bad and ordered the part and waited for 2 weeks. Then he calls for another person to help him saying its a 2 person job. On the next visit the second guys uses flashlight and find that there is a lot of lint build up which as a customer there is no way to fully clean. And i use to clean it before every use. So they said fast appliance repair team is not trained on this unit to do the repairs and I need to contact GE to get a GE tech to repair. So waiting again. What i don't understand is how is a customer suppose to clean this unit effectively when its a design fault and crappy product to begin with. I don't GE taking the ownership of this issue and trying to help the customers who jumped on this product.

On my unit I stopped getting lint on the filter and the filter is wet. Clothes are taking a long time to dry. I cleaned the area as shown in the video and cleaned the drain pump filter many times. Also used a endoscopic camera to make sure there's no lint blocking the air flow. What would cause this problem?

look inside to the left (use a $30 endoscopic camera from amazon or other that plugs right into your phone, it's skinny and bends) and look towards the back left, it's probably clogged like ours got. Clothes were drying. this is a build BEFORE the filter, faulty design. the machine otherwise is great.

This is my biggest gripe with this appliance! I cannot believe there isn't an additional access point to be able to easily and thoroughly clean the extra lint and hair from this area! It gets wet, cakes onto the hard to reach places, and takes me 45 minutes of switching back and forth between brushes and vacuum attachments to get it kind of clean! It stresses me out and is such a pain! Literally! My body hurts after cleaning this from the contoursion I need to do to get the tool into the right place! My foam filter SMELLS because the dryer never dries my clothes all of the way so if we aren't there to restart the dryer right away then it just sits there with wet lint and stinks! I have to soak the foam filter in vinegar to semi release the smell. The unit produced great results for the first few loads but now we have to use much more detergent to clean the washer smell out 😭 what a disaster!

File a grievance with their customer service group. I ended up getting a replacement combo after multiple serve calls. The lint gets stuck in two places: before the filter housing where this video depicts the impossible access. It also gets stuck deep with the machine once it passes through the flawed filter and condenser fins. It’s impossible to access beyond the condenser unless you take the entire top of the machine off. Such a terrible design!

  • @KathySheldon

As another commenter said, the amount of lint that escapes the lint filter and builds up is atrocious. And then asking us to buy bushes to take care of the design flow is also atrocious. could you share a short vid or post a photo on your YT account with the mod you used for the rubber foam? The lint passing the filter is horrible. We also have a great building on the left (pre-filter side) which I only found by sticking an endoscopic camera in there to look, and even a narrow vacuum attachment can't get it, it needs to bend to the left and then go down that up filter which brings the air and lint up the actual filter... it's just slowly builds up on on the turns and corners. we love the unit otherwise, but the lint buildup is concerning (fire hazard).

      Hi again!
Anytime a wet load is going through a high spinout, there will be an opportunity for some moisture to circulate through the air system and land on or around the lint filter. This is normal and goes away while running a dry cycle. We do not sell a vacuum hose attachment. However, small attachments such as the one on a vacuum will work! Multiple online retailers offer a vacuum extension as well.

We understand an issue with lint would be concerning, and we want to help. Our Combo was designed to be fully capable of handling lint that may make its way past the filter and accumulate on surfaces within the compartment, while still operating with high efficiency; this is why we confidently offer the 5-year warranty on the heat exchanger. The manual (which you can view on our GE Appliances website when you look up the model number and go to the product page) discusses gentle, periodic cleaning of the filter compartment, and the Combo provides notifications when cleaning of the lint or foam filter is required. Because of the Combo’s design, we would expect that simply following the maintenance described in the manual will keep your unit running well for years to come.
If you’re still concerned about the lint you’re seeing, please send us a private message over our social media (such as Facebook or Instagram) with your contact information and the photos and video you mention. We can certainly look into your situation further.

I am having this headache. There is lint in pretty much every nook and cranny. I have lint stuck between the blue rubber ring and the actual basket. Since we paid $2200 on this I have been taking emptying out the lint trap after every wash/dry and not just when the machine tells me too. I have recently looked inside where the lint filter is and could not believe the lint build up specially in the left area. We have a similar brush like the blue brush but unfortunately the top part where the brush is just not strong enough to remove the lint. We have tried an air compressor, swiffer dusters, this weird arm pick up tool, anything we can fit in the opening but nothing can reach well enough. I was able to get one chunk but not all of it.

We would not recommend using water for cleaning. We would suggest following the cleaning video guide and tips below. There is a link to an article that we have that will explain in detail how to clean that properly. spklr.io/6056U7p0
      Clean the Heat Exchanger:
-Brush off any lint that has accumulated on the fins by moving the brush up and down and also by spinning the brush.
-As needed throughout this cleaning, slowly pull the appliance brush out of the lint filter opening while standing off to one side and being careful, as lint may become airborne when the brush bristles exit the opening.
-Clean the brush by shaking it into a garbage can or outside the home. If any lint remains in the brush after shaking, pull it off with your hand or a towel.
-When done cleaning with the appliance brush, vacuum any accumulated lint in the filter area using a narrow attachment, being careful not to bend or damage the fins of the heat exchanger.
-In addition to the extension provided with your vacuum, you can use longer extensions that will work better to reach all the areas of the lint filter compartment. These longer vacuum extensions can be purchased at multiple online retailers.

GE has a poor design. There are solutions out there to fix the problem and make it operate the way it should. Lint Bypassing a lint filter is sort of ridiculous. I have used the solutions out there and have 100% resolved lint collecting on the coil. People are going to do more damage trying to brush a aluminum coil that they cannot see. What age group do you think is going to go in there and try to clean this?

Like many of the people who have posted here, I generally love the concept of the machine and its cleaning. However, the cleaning of the lint is especially difficult because it leaks around the filters. The major flaw in your video is that it does not show an actually dirty lint area. Make this video again with a real world usage of a typical home user. Demonstrate clearly how the lint comes out. Unless your engineers are testing machines with real world loads of laundry from homes who have pets, who garden, have kids, you are not going to effectively show us how to clean the machine. I want a video from you that shows a dirty machine being cleaned. Not a clean brand new apparently never used machine used as a demo of how to clean.

Absolute junk. I have had mine for about 10 months. The wash and dry functions themselves are ok, but not great. The lint and water filters are junk and so time consuming. My dry quality has decreased since I purchased as it is impossible to get all the lint clear up on there, decreasing drying. This is ridiculous for such a high priced machine. Engineer should be fired. The water filter on the bottom is an absolute disaster as well. If you don’t have the machine elevated, there is no way to contain the water as the elbow doesn’t seal. Should be sued for the amount of water that goes behind the machine due to poor engineering on such a simple thing. It’s so dang heavy you can’t move it for clean up either. Don’t waste your time or money. “We designed and tested..” with no input from someone who actually used it.
