Finally, a woodworker that doesn’t use excessive glue all over and a ton of wast with disposable brushes, etc. Project turned out nice and I got a few useful tips in the process.
This was a great build, Jon. I have learned so much from watching your builds. I see you as the modern day version of Norm Abram from The New Yankee Workshop. Your builds have great aesthetics and you explain everything so well. It convinces me that I might be able to build the same project just by following your detailed instructions. I love your channel. Thank you for sharing your woodworking world with us.
Thank you for sharing Jon! I really enjoy your solo videos. Not sure what it is but I just can’t get into that other channel but the videos on this channel I look forward to. Have a great 2024!!
Great project Jon. You remind me so much of Norm Abrams with your narration and build style along with your video production. Awesome content. Love your work!!!
@@JonPetersArtHome You’re welcome, Jon. I’d also like to add that I appreciate the long build videos such as this one. While some woodworking channels on TH-cam focus on product and/or equipment reviews, I much prefer the long format build videos that you do. They are very educational and inspiring. Keep up the great work.
Over 45 mins. of cinematic greatness & an AWESOME piece of furniture just to all of it be completely negated with that freakin outlet & orange cord at the end of the video!!! JOKING & Oh do I kill myself!!! This was such a joy to watch Jon. And I don't think ppl. understand that every piece of furniture needs to be carried up a flight of stairs for final photos. RESPECT!!! Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
@@JonPetersArtHome cool thanks! I've always struggled to spray in my shop for the reasons mentioned above. Finishing projects in the winter that need multiple coats is especially challenging....so much so that I've started using hard wax wipe on finishes instead during the cold months. It's not a perfect solution
One of these days I'm going to give veneering a shot. The look you can get seems to be incredible! Probly better get more than l need because there's a real high chance I'll screw something up 😂
As a hobbyist, I learn so much from your long form videos and your detailed plans that I am not afraid to try projects that are clearly beyond my skill level. Thank you! By the way what's the difference between a stretcher and an apron? I feel like I should already know that.
John, this was a fantastic build! I really appreciate you taking the time to not rush through the base build. As a new woodworker learning the ropes, considering the time and material cost of the walnut, what would you price this sideboard cabinet for? Thanks again!
Great project, Jon! I've been following each bit and am happy to see a full project video. Quick question: any reason you preferred 5/8" ply for the drawer boxes instead of 1/2"? I tend to use 1/2" on all drawer boxes and am curious if there is any particular reason you went heavier for this project.
Love this look. Elegant and useful and zero fussiness. But … 26:47 Since you’re using nice thick plywood anyway, couldn’t you skip all the screws and just use glue, esp on the bottom? With the pins, good glue, and your meticulous clamping, sure seems like those drawes would be bombproof for even your Paul Revere silver flatware. (Sorry, Jon. I’m always on you about this. You like extra strength - and are building for clients - and I’m always trying to be minimal. I’d love to hear about an option for a back that could be seen. Maybe a big veneered panel with dividers to break it up?)
Hi John, I feel the screws aren’t much work and make the drawers, much stronger. Yes, you could use veneered plywood and attach it from inside the cabinet. I did that on another walnut sideboard a few years ago and you can see it on my channel .
I probably said it before but, Happy New Year! It looks very rich...your skill and walnut can do that! Forgive me if I ought to know this, but what about your wife's office?
Thanks And Happy New Year Juliet! My wife’s office turned out great! I have a bunch of footage and hope to put it all together for a video soon. Thanks for the reminder 👍

Thanks! Great to hear that 👍
Great to see a full build video again! Thanks for the time and effort you put into these Jon.
Thanks, Jonathan!
That would make a great coffee table book! A book of all your furniture builds! I would buy one!!
Cool! Thanks … definitely hoping to make that happen this year.
I enjoy the long format video. Especially for this type of project. It is a nice change.
Awesome, thank you!
As always, it was a masterpiece. Your precision, perfection, and attention to detail are something that I love the most!❤

What a great looking piece and I love the walnut, you did a beautiful job on the base making it a true focal point of any room, nice work ❤

Would be interesting to see a video on your finishing set up: what gun you use, ventilation system, how you manage heat, dust, fumes, ect.
I’ll put that on the list… I know I have a video titled how to spray lacquer at shows a bit of the information you might be looking for

What kind of pocket hole jig is that?
This might be a dumb question but did you sand or finish the inside at all with anything?
Not at all… yes I always finish the inside
Which pocket hole jig are you using? Thx
Armor Tool
What screws did you use to attach the stiles?
Power pro
What kind of lacquer did you use?
Finishers choice from Mohawk finishing products
@@JonPetersArtHome thank you!
How far were those pin nails going in?
Maybe a quarter inch
I always struggle pulling those things out
Not too far, on the MDF jig I just throw out the bendable piece, so I’m not trying to pull the pins out.
Great video. Great build, Jon. Just realized, I watched it twice and commented twice. LOL.
Thanks again!
Elegant build. Thank you so much for sharing this long form video Jon. I find it very valuable and inspiring.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
