    This Record Cabinet was custom designed and made using Walnut and Brass. Made to suit my clients record player and equipment.
    One of the main features of this piece is the grain continuity, not only along the front of the cabinet but also along the top. It was an important design feature for the grain on the lid to flow and make the top look like one piece.
    I've used Osmo Poly X Satin for the finish. My process is to apply the first coat with a roller, then apply the second sparingly and buff with a white non abrasive pad.

    This brings back so many memories of the old time stereo systems I grew up with in the 1960's & 1970's. Would have liked to see the metal legs installed, the metal grill very strong hopefully better quality. Great carpentry, & professional work went into this fine and modern version of the past classic audio systems. Good video! 👍👍👏👏🙂

    Amazing piece. However, one of the best features of mid century console stereo systems were the speaker systems that utilized the large available space. My Grandmother had one of these and it contained 2 15" woofers, and 2 large horn tweeter. Combined with the all tube electronics, it sounded so amazing.

    • @mrrootytooty5797
      @mrrootytooty5797 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i still have a couple of all tube radiograms with 12" Celestion speakers onboard...i keep meaning to restore the woodwork on one of them.
      They do sound great! I think they cost no more than £50 each as well.
      I may buy a Blaupunkt Arkansas (on looks alone)

    • @paulvolkmann2979
      @paulvolkmann2979 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m in the design process of a ‘console’ with speakers built in.
      Going for the old look - the top will still be openable (connections access) but latch behind doors (Blu-ray/DVD access) that will be concealed in the pattern of the front.
      Essentially an A/V center that looks like a console stereo that also acts as a TV stand.

    We had an old Motorola FM Radio/Record player almost exactly like this growing up in the late 60s, early 70s.
    It was the tube kind.
    I was always amazed at how powerful and smooth the sound was. It had such a warmth to the music, especially the Record player.
    If I only knew then what I know now, I would have saved it from the garbage because my father threw it out !!!!!!.

    Another beautiful piece of art! Would've been cool to see a gas strut hinge on the top door so it assist in opening and allow a soft closing, so you know, it doesn't bump the record player.

    • @bobbg9041

    Made me immediately think that I wish my guitar amplifiers looked like this. Would be such a classy piece, especially if it could be something for use on stage - although I wouldn't dare let anybody breathe near it. Would set such an amazing vibe .
    I do love the turntable that's placed in it though, made me laugh that it's a different turntable used for the needle drop and lift bookending the video ;)

    I knew an artist that used to build consoles with klipsch heresy speakers that fit in the cab.s.. He would use cheaper but new garrard tables and whatever Marantz pre and power amp and install a spring reverb for what he called 'Spatial' . Good times. The last time i talked to him he said the last one sold in the 80s for 3 grand.

    • @mwyatt222

      The speakers could spin in the cabinets to the side or back where they could be pointed in any direction. Huge advantage. He made them out of salvaged 50s and 60s wood from high end credenzas and conference tables. The guy also made acoustic guitars.

    Great vid. I remember when I was younger you could buy the wood cabinets so you could add your valve / transistor equipment to them. The ones I built myself I built in sections and then ASSEMBLED where the unit was going to be used and for good reason 👀🤔If you have ever put together one of these and believe me this one is a TOTAL example of what I am about to illustrate😃they weigh a ton (well certainly feels like it as the missus rearranging the room - I need it there, no there 😭 followed by "look at the carpet and where that has been" followed by "Do you really think we should move it dearest.." 🤔👀 Also try moving furniture like that up or down stairs👀😒BUT I will tell you now.. solid teak unit that I put together AND yes I made it so that it could be disassembled into parts.. the sound was unbelievable from it.. true hifi fidelity at its best.. record deck, cassette tape deck and transistor tuner/amplifier assembly with FM radio as well, big 12 inch 15 ohm speakers plus several smaller speakers (electronics was a hobby of mine so crossovers and etc a breeze.. ) 20 watts per channel, rumble and scratch filters, full tone controls and 5 inputs plus din socket connectors and and! We had that for over 20 years with some upgrades along the way, but it remained a family heirloom😃👍Listen to the music of the 80s or the 90s with relish.. connect up a CD player to the din socket and once again the sound was awesome! The solid teak construction I still to this day reckon added so much to the warmth of the sound.. no vibration here thankyou.. 👀😃That's why if you have the time to do a project like this and the enthusiasm, do it! but as said do remember, when put together the WEIGHT! unless of course you are using lighter materials ? but even then it will still be heavy! 😨😃 Love this vid.. definite thumbs up here 👍😃 Whoever, wherever you are - stay safe!
