    The Batman is a stunning and unique creative endeavor, combining a neo-noir detective aesthetic with a Fincher-esque cat and mouse plot to draw the viewer into this new, 'grounded' take on Gotham. It's got style and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious about where they're going with this version of Batman; but overall the film was quite disappointing. Very disappointing actually. The wingsuit scene was cool though... I guess.

    Didn’t Batman travel the world for almost 20 years (age 8-26) training so he wouldn’t make these mistakes? I usually think of Raizo in Ninja Assassin, Yoda/Darth Sidious/Mace/Anakin/Obi-Wan in Star Wars Prequel films or Adrian Veidt in Both Watchman film and comic and RE5 Albert Wesker for combat/movement and Intelligence. They are Legendary combatants they don’t need armor because they know that only the most legendary combatants can touch them. Batman is in that class as a legendary combatant and intellect without the force. If you want even add Cumberbatch/Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes for NO TECH IN COWL DETECTIVE SKILLS and Intelligence on top of everything mentioned above .Make Batman more vampiric/shinobi like again. This is so when another legendary combatant or Intellect like Ra’s Al Ghul, Bane, Hugo Strange or Deathstroke appear we can have a compelling threat that can actually defeat him not gangsters and thugs with crowbars. Lastly the fact that this Batman couldn’t deduce that those photos were taken from THE SAME DAMN HIGH ANGLE really pissed me off because even I was able to figure that out why couldn’t the world’s greatest detective?

      Every iteration of Batman details different training methods over different periods of time. Most of them keep it deliberately vague to allow themselves more leeway in the future and there's no problem with that. At the end of the day, however, having your ex-MI6 butler teach you how to duck and weave and does not a Batman make.

    I know its so pedantic and shallow but I HATED that the only use of the Batarang in the whole was to cut a rope. The utility belt of endless gadgets is one of the most defining features of Batman as a character and the gadgets in this movie are so lame to me. Batman just fights everyone by tanking hundreds of bullets and punching them a lot, whereas I feel like most Batman iterations can fight goons with so many different weapons, as he has one for every situation, but this Batman just has nothing and just eventually wins. Also I agree Kevin Conroy is the best Batman, Rest in Peace.
    Excellent video as always Lumo!

      @germanshepherd2701 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Wow he doesn’t use his batarang as a ranged weapon yet, but as a utility tool and symbol centerpiece for now?
      It’s almost like he’s new to being Batman and hasn’t thought of all his gadgets yet.
      It’s almost like how he doesn’t glide with a cape yet but instead uses a wingsuit, or how he doesn’t have a batwing or more advanced batmobile but instead has a big ass car, or how he hasn’t built a huge-ass batcave but instead repurposes an abandoned train depot, or how he doesn’t have detective vision yet but instead has badass camera-contacts, or how he doesn’t have smoke pellets yet but instead uses the environment, or how he doesn’t have a “playboy billionaire philanthropist” persona yet but instead is learning that he’ll need to develop one to help the city’s reconstruction and save his company and family legacy and protect his identity… wow actually, y’know what? The more I think about it, it’s almost like this Batman movie depicts a young Batman that will have CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and NEW TECH as he GROWS in NEW MOVIES, thus providing good story-telling and a sense of real growth and badassery.
      I swear, it’s almost as if the director himself said it’s a young, early version of the character only in his second year of crime-fighting and that he wants the audience to see Batman develop as a real character instead of starting off as some perfect god that already knows everything and has all his gadgets.
      I’m probably wrong though, just a crazy thought of how it appears to me.
      …… aaaannnndddd that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you be pedantic and shallow but also CORRECT and RATIONAL all at the same time. Take my comment as an example class 😅

      @@tothbence7436 People understand that part of the movie just fine. They spell it out perfectly clear. There's nothing to misunderstand about it. Fact is, that's not exactly anything new, especially in a Batman/superhero movie. The problem is, that's not really something he "accomplishes." An accomplishment is something you strive to achieve. Him realizing he's influencing the wrong people is not an accomplishment, it's just a reveal that's put upon him that forces him to have a change of heart. Devil's advocate though, even if you could call it an accomplishment, it's too little too late at that point considering he already made everything else much worse throughout the rest of the movie.

    tbh i will say that batman being passive is a result of the long halloween storyline that the movie is based on. the original comic plays out as a mystery that takes place over a year with batman being strung along and solving things too late until the answer is pretty much handed to him after the villain pretty much wins.

    I rather enjoyed the film. I similarly enjoyed his style of combat as well, and that's understanding that it isn't Batman's usual approach. Now, I'm huge on armor actually being functional in a movie, so that's likely a factor. But i believe that the fighting style makes sense for the depiction.
    This Batman is very clearly depressed. I believe that it's a matter of him not letting anything he's done help. The training could have helped, but he didn't let it. He thought being the Bat, being Vengeance, would being him some comfort, but it hasn't, and he can look and see how little it's doing for Gotham, but he's not sure how to fix that, so his only idea at this point is to make the criminals more afraid. This brings me to the point of his operation in the movie: Everything Batman does smacks of Shock and Awe strategies. From the first fight scene, he's stomping towards criminals, and taking shots to the chest to show that they cannot and will not hurt him, and then pummeling people to an absolute pulp. This is not creating fear through knowledge of a smart, calculating, skilled man in an eccentric Halloween costume, this is creating a mythos of a demon unleashing pain and terror on the unjust. This is a Batman who is still so in the throes of his grief and depression that he doesn't care about his own life, and his fighting style reflects that passive unalivality. He's crafting Gotham's Dracula, an ill omen amd spectre of destruction for those who find themselves in his crosshairs

    You're right about "The Batman" imperfections, but the movie's neo-noir look, gritty storyline, and unique psychological depiction of Batman make up for all of them. I like it, anyway! Still, I would have given his villains their comic-book gadgets, so their fight scenes would be evenly matched. The Penguin, Joker, and Riddler needed more screentime and combat with Batman, for greater comic book accuracy and exciting fight scenes. Their iconic sci-fi tech and super intelligence would also explain police dependence on Batman to solve supervillain cases and apprehend paranormal suspects. Locked-room murders with matter transmitters and rayguns might stump forensic scientists! A suspect with a robot-convertible battle car and powered armor like a space marine may be too much for a SWAT team to bust! More advanced technology, such as force field-assisted powered armor, such as Iron Man or Black Panther wear, cloaking devices, scanners, and stun rays, would also logically explain his survival and code against killing. I would have made the movie R-rated, for greater realism and to better fit the Neo-Noir/gangster/slasher/conspiracy thriller plot and villains. As a detective, this would allow Batman to do autopsies and psychological profiling, like in CSI, Sherlock-Scan people like in "Sherlock", and remotely-scan gory crime scenes. It would also make gangsters, serial killers, youth gangs, and terrorists more menacing if they shoot people in slow motion, and cuss like sailors. The Riddler's murders would look scarier if they looked like "Saw" or "Silence of the Lambs!" Hallucination and flashback scenes would better show both Batman's and the Riddler's mental health. It would allow the movie to explore both Bruce Wayne's playboy lifestyle and the Batman/Catwoman relationship with kinky nude erotic thriller and teen sex comedy bedroom scenes.

Since it did so well in the box office, I keep thinking maybe I reacted to quickly but I tend to be a pretty good judge of a movie's quality (or at least how I will perceive that quality based on my preferences/likes) and this one was a dud. It's interesting to see a film breakdown what made the film not work. Pretty much a passive protagonist with the plot happening not based on logic but because "events" need to happen because the writer wants them to happen vs. the writer making it possible/logical that the events would happen based on character action/motivation.

    This has got to be one of my favorite videos on this movie. Perfectly sums up why this movie does not work on many levels. A couple things that I would correct you on though.
    Batman never really "abandoned" Gordon during the gun fight. I think it took him a while to rev up his batmobile to distract and intimidate the penguin and his goons which saved Gordon and Selina and Gordon was able to slip into another vehicle unharmed.
    Riddler makes clear during the interrogation scene that he targeted Bruce not because of his relationship to Thomas Wayne but because he finds him to be a phony orphan and that after the Waynes died he basically stole the attention from the "real" orphans who needed help the most.

    • @johnnyd1824
      @johnnyd1824 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would like to add on that. The fire you complained about behind Batman in the upside-down shot wasn't even caused by Batman and ppl weren't near it. You can see in the DA's death scene, he actually covers his face when he braces for the blast. Selina's attraction to Batman can be questioned throughout all of their iterations, movies, games and even comics. Riddler used his arrest to distract the cops and Batman from his final step b4 they could stop it. The thumb drive was what made Batman and Gordon take Riddler more seriously. All in all, this movie is show that Batman is learning to become the World's Greatest Detective or that he didn't become it overnight. Out here expecting Year 5-10 Batman from Year 2 Batman.

      Give it a try, it’s very good. A new iteration, new perspective, a thrilling story which is almost like a comic book shuffle. Great Batman stuff, better than Affleck’s for sure. I disagree with the video itself, I want to write a comment, but I think he misunderstands some scenes and the world of this Batman. Thx if you read this or reply.

    this movie is my masterpiece i took everything you said in account you are completely right you laid it out nicely evidence was handed to him in his investigation and he isn’t completely aware of the collateral damage around him especially in that car scene i wondered the same thing reeves could’ve easily did a split second scene of traffic stopping to help the other civilians get out there cars they could’ve easily made a news report of them blaming batman for the highway scene n it’s casualties making a decisive menacing prospective of batman being reckless that would’ve made sense i’ll give you that but it is true this batman is new mentally batman has always been this broken kid still crying n yearning for his parents so i see why you call him unhinged but ur criticism is why this batman has to grow internationally for the city and his own psyche this was to show that this batman isn’t perfect we’ve always seen a batman where when he starts out he had everything planned from the beginning his code his suit his utilities and how he wanted to strike fear into these criminals but this batman is so believable because he’s making major mistakes in his take off THATS WHY WE LOVE IT this bruce hasn’t traveled the world or met the league of assassins yet so ofc he thinks hes relying on his armor ofc he can’t directly jump out of the shadows like a ninja yet because he hasn’t been trained by them yet this is why we love it you could call it mediocre because it isn’t source material competent but this film is a way of saying in his 10-20 shit even 30 years to come as batman this MAN HAS A LOT TO LEARN AB HIMSELF AND HIS CITY also what i want to touch up on i feel like most adaptions we’ve seen batman start off in his early 30s late 20s this bruce looks 2 years post college and he’s more interested in his own interests then trying to run a billion dollar company to me this batman is still a kid visually and mentally with still one training wheel on his bike that he has to overcome anyways ur critical claims were amazing you did ur homework you over analyzed to ur fullest and i respect that a man with acceptable judgement i can take criticism but it’s a comic book film man let us have our shit 🙏🏾

    Ok..But batman 1989 causes several deaths
    And Nolan Batman is honestly really bland.
    And man. Don't get me started on all the deaths batman caused in the arkham games
    Oh man. Remember Batman and Robin?
    Oh geez. I forgot to bring up the comics..Remember killing joke-

      Nolan's Batman objectively had the most character profession out of any film internation. He had more character in the first half of Begins than Pattinson had in all of 3 hours.
      Idk what the Killing Joke part of the comment is tryna imply
