If all you're looking for is a gore real of your favorite characters, you can watch a fatality compilation (or dozens) on TH-cam. This is a movie. I go to movies to see stories play out. Gore and guts and dumb fun are appreciated, to be sure (I like my share of dumb movies). But when I spend the entire time questioning the story's logic instead of being engaged, that's just no bueno. Suspension of disbelief is not supposed to be the responsibility of the audience.
Sadly the Elder gods in this case the Warner brothers are too incompetent to make that happen. But I'm still hoping for that and I even have a better storyline for a whole MK universe in my mind

Arcane is one of most beautifully written shows and the crazy part is that it is an adaptation of a video game. Video game movies and shows pretty much always suck, except for Arcane. Arcane wrote a tragic story with well developed characters first, then sprinkled in video game details. This Mortal Kombat movie did not write a story first. It used characters from an already existing franchise to bait people into paying to watch it. They could have written a pretty sad and tragic story focussing on Scorpion and his determination for revenge, while making the death of his family something that had actual weight to it. Idk, I'm not a writer.
If it's a prequel to the TOURNAMENT though, it really should have been a Scorpion AND Sub Zero movie, but like you said focusing on Scorpions revenge (no pun intended) and for the purpose the movie was trying to serve, at least two members/associates of the Lin Kuei like Smoke and Sareena (instead of Mileena), but for a true plot twist to most casuals, have Sub Zero win again in the final battle, so that way the movie can stick to the actual lore and have Scorpion resurrected again a 2nd time and defeat Sub Zero during the tournament in their 3rd fight, that would be during the 2nd movie. You could even cast a younger actor like Kane Kosugi to play Scorpion too, have it that the 2nd time he comes back he gets his youth restored and powers amped a bit to defeat Sub Zero. THAT would have been a true FLAWLESS VICTORY.
I remember during the fight between Cole and Bi Han thinking to myself, "Oh, no. I hope that armor doesn't turn him INTO Scorpion." I was genuinely concerned that's what they were going to do, and I was ready to storm out and demand my money back. I've never done that at a theater, ever, and I sat through X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
This 2021 MK liveaction was like: lmagine Y0UR GRANDM0THER running over KAN0 with her car & then getting his mark. Shortly after RAlDEN appears & takes her to the temple, & then Y0UR GRANDM0THER has to fight G0R0.

The writer actually was a big fan of the game, he just wasn't a good writer and was very inexperienced and also a bit immature; couldn't take criticism. The director, however, knew very little about Mortal Kombat and had never even directed a movie before. It also had heavy studio interference (hence Cole Young), so at the end of the day it was all about money.

Precisely bro! A series of solo episodes was the way to go. It's mandatory to flesh out your characters if you want to make a compelling film/franchise. This movie was *extremely* rushed. And 55 million $ budget is no excuse. "The Raid" had a fraction of that budget at 2 million $ and was a classic Martial Arts film, being better than MK 2021 in every aspect.

Many of them are direct clones from Big Trouble in Little China, or are just Bruce Lee with fireballs, or Jean Claude Van Damme with a shadow kick, or a randomly-colored ninja guy with fire, ice or smoke-based powers. The movies are exactly what MK is. Shallow. Violent. Cringe. Over the top and completely ridiculous. It needs no depth. It's Mortal Kombat. All it needs is fanservice, because not every movie needs to stand alone to justify itself. This is pedantic nitpicking through a pile of dog poo and damning it for not being a porterhouse steak. 😔

Kano is just fantastic, the best thi g in the movie, and the actor who plays scorpion is one of the best japanese acotrs ever, and he does a great job. so yeah, the animation is better, but the live action have these 2 actors that make me still enjoy the live action. but yeah, i rather if we didnt have Kole in this movie... we could very well have liu kang as the main character...
nah i think you miss the point with sonya oferrng kano 3 million dollars.. .have she forced kano, he could have lied to her, or set up a trap... by offering 3 million dollars she knows she have a bigger chance of him acctuly going torugh with his word, he can still cheat her of course, but the chance is lesser now, it also grants her that he is gonna do all the heavy work, wighout needing to torture him. not to mention, kano, being ad pridefull as he is, may never have given her the location before.
