If I were there to watch the streams, I would have told you about the doc in the cloud main server that has a road map of movement and execution practice drills that you could have practiced. I'm sure it would have helped a lot, especially with you growing more acclimated to the character. Regardless, happy birthday!
9:26-9:44 I love that you brought this up. I’ve always wondered if some characters were actually bad or if we just don’t have a player like Mkleo (back when he mained Byleth) or Spargo to go to tournaments with them and fully commit to them? What if players like that mained characters like idk Link and Ness? Would they suddenly be considered top tiers? I feel like it’s a really interesting conversation to have…
@@TuesdayTastic The timestamps say Piranha plant combo video, instead of Cloud combo video. Silly mistake, but just so you know the reason of the coment.
Really enjoyed this look at Cloud. I main him myself, and one of the most annoying things to talk to people about is how he's not just bair/upb, although they are core elements to his gameplay. In my experience he will reward game knowledge, precision, and movement well, while making your mistakes feel way more impactful than some other characters might. I personally don't define him as a character that carries, but that forces you to learn a lot of the mechanics of the game itself and then is buffed heavily by that knowledge. Like you said with the vertical and horizontal spacing, or the hurtbox shifting. Great video!
@@TuesdayTastic No problem. I love this series and no matter how long I have to wait between each episode, I always know it’s worth it. I’m watching this ‘til the end, and I wish you the best of luck the whole way! :D
Your series of charcter crisis has helped me figure out my 2 options for a main, Marth and Roy. I played both of these characters before I watched the entire series. Have you ever tried maining Wario?
Happy Birthday! also being bad at cloud is totally fine everyone has that one character they're just not super great with mine is bayonetta. Oh boi the Diddy Kong video that week was fun lol
Wait why are we going through the exact same thing at the same time!??! LMAO For YEARS I’ve played basically the whole cast still trying to find a main, so every now and then I absolutely force myself to play a single character and see if by the end of the week/month I feel like it clicks with me And this month I’ve been playing only Cloud and yea- Cloud is kinda weird to learn
@@TuesdayTastic “He’s a Swordy, he’s very fundamental!” No, no, no. That isn’t completely true Yes he’s a sword fighter. So you go into a game expecting him to play similar to all the others…that is NOT the case at all 90% of the sword fighters are very similar. Marth, Chrom, Roy, Lucina. They are all different but mostly the same. You press forward and A Opponent is above you? Up air. In front? Forward air. Etc etc. pretty simple Cloud isn’t like that. All of the swordies up airs are spammable. Clouds isn’t spammable but it lingers. So its strengths and weaknesses are different His forward air is SLOW but BIG. How you use it is unlike ANY other forward air in the entire game besides like- DKs He has Limit, so now you have to learn how to properly use charge moves. If you’re a Samus main then you already know the fundamentals of how charging works. But most people don’t properly understand when you can and can’t start charging without being punished. I’ve no joke- seen Spargo start charging RIGHT in front of someone’s shield. wtf? There’s no universe where that’s “fundamental” He’s just…different from anyone else in the cast. No one plays like Cloud. Literally Hero is more similar to the rest of the cast than Cloud is lol
I really liked the video. A good portion of people don’t know what really goes into learning this character. If you can ever want to continue learning Cloud, I can give you a lot of tips. Cloud is a really fun character and seeing people learn him is always a pleasure.
I placed 2nd in my local last week only losing to a cloud. On paper Bowser is suppose to do well against Cloud but I found myself struggling. It's insane how safe everything this character does. He also DEFINITELY does not lack the KO power I thought he did. His grabs can't get anything true but if he has limit and throws you it's a toss up what he can do.
I think there’s also a point to be made about overconfidence. This isn’t going to apply to everyone, but for me personally, I tend to do better with low tiers or against high tiers than I do while playing as a high tier or against a low tier. I normally main Joker, for instance, but whenever I encounter a DK online, I tend to get a little overexcited and overconfident. But then when I’m playing a low tier like Ganon online, I seem to do well even against the top tiers. I don’t always win - it’s Ganon after all - but that does raise a point. I just tend to lock in more when I feel like I’m at a disadvantage. I was playing Pikachu online today, and I lost against a Dedede but won against another Pikachu. Just goes to show that even if your character is good, you still have to be good. I don’t go to a lot of tournaments (though I plan to start sometime), so this is more from a viewpoint of someone who mostly plays online
Agreed. I personally believe the top tiers are generally harder than the low/bottom tiers since low tier characters seem to have less options, making it obvious what option to choose in any given number of situations, while with a top tier, it’s mostly up to you to optimize your decision making Less options = worse but easier More options = harder but better
As someone whose only experience with Cloud was fighting against him, I always saw him as an easy character to get good with due to his fast speed and crazy moves. However this video showed me another perspective of Cloud in Smash Ultimate and it made me realize that Cloud wasn’t as simple as I originally thought. All in all great video, best of luck in this character crisis, and happy birthday!
One of the best characters in the game is Corrin. I will warn you though… if you thought Cloud was hard…… I’ve been very slowly swapping my main to Corrin but I had to learn a whole heck of a lot about combos and frame trapping.
You're not worse with a top tier, but Cloud's set of strenghts is more well-rounded and won't get you the same reward as a hard hitting low tier when fighting vs people who aren't top level players (they won't respect you as much nor play around your strong tools as well)
Cloud is not an easy character. First of all, his recovery is definitely not bad, however he can still get cheesed by a surprising margin just due to the fact that its very linear and most of the time he would require his double jump. Even characters with mediocre edgegaurding abilities can easily find a way to gimp him, just depends how the player does it. All this and also the fact that there are SO many other broken top tiers that completely outplay him in the "broken" aspect. What I mean by this is that for instance, you would think his limit mechanic is good, but at least in my opinion, it arguably sucks, especially compared to the absolutely broken bs other characters have. Like don't even take my word for it, everyone says how limit cross slash literally sometimes can't kill even at like 100 in general💀. Now despite all this however, I would love to see more Cloud mains. I'm not Spargo, but take my word for this. I have had pretty much like 4 years of experience with Cloud and I even used him in a couple tournaments, enough to know all this. I'm glad you're trying out Cloud though.
Edit: DAAAAMN never mind man, your Cloud is actually already better than mine. I didn't see the vid yet. You can ignore my rambling lol. You're doing good.

I genuinely believe that the only thing holding back every character in this game is whether or not they have a top player pushing their metagame.
