Thank you so much for keeping it real man. What a lot of first time buyers fail to recognize is that the Nissan GT-R costs supercar money for a reason. A lower-end supercar price tag with supercar performance has supercar repair/maintenance costs. $20,000 transmission swaps. 500+ horsepower. It’s funny how you keep referencing “Nissan” on a lot of these defects, in the paint and trims. Pretty hard to determine its “Nissan’s” (inferior?) product. How was the car looked after? Driven in snow, rain, over gravel? Was it washed regularly? polished? Serviced properly? What do they do for a job? A mechanic getting in his daily driver with corrosive materials on their hands would cause early wear. Smoker? Eat a lot of greasy fast food? So many variables. I also dont know too many daily driven Supercars. I think it looks pretty good to be honest. No car is bulletproof. It’s also a third of the price of a Lamborghini with similar performance. A lot of speculation. I have a Nissan, nearly 8 years old, pretty high km’s, daily driver and I don’t have any of this wear and tear.
I think it looks like he doesn't take much care of it. I have a 09 G37s Coupe that looks 10 times better than this GTR inside and out...granted its only got 66k on it but still.
Those interior panels shouldn’t be too hard to replace. If it’s been on since new it’s time to remove that paint protection film. Buff the whole car, ceramic coat it, then put more film on the whole front end maybe the whole car.
No offense meant here, but I think you're totally off base claiming that the Nissan shines through because of its age. Maybe compared to a Toyota or Honda, but not compared to supercar brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren. Have you seen the kind of nonsense that happens on those after just 40k miles? I can gaurentee they would look much worse at 140k miles with the same level of maintenance done
It comes down to the driver caring. My STI has 40k miles on it at least 75% highway miles, and it looks like it drove off the showroom floor minus a few rock chips I've filled.
140,000 miles on a Japanese car isn’t bad if it was taken care of. My Gtr has 83,000 and run like it’s close to new , my 07 civic si has 196,000 miles and still pulls strong as hell! It all comes down to how you take care of your car.
I had a 2009 R35 in UK sold it with 159k Miles on the clock still going strong sold it for £24.5k :-( Litchfield imports knew of a higher miler than mine in the UK :-0
How much do transmission swaps cost at a competent independent shop? I’m assuming the $20,000 cost at the dealership is a pretty inflated number, as expected from them.
campkira yeah I wouldn’t expect it to be cheap, but with how ubiquitous tuning is for the GT-R I would be really surprised to hear that there aren’t reputable shops, with expertise, that can handle the swap for less than $20,000
Pube83 yeah I guess I just had it in my head that a swap to a new one would have more longevity. Thinking about it now, you’re probably better off replacing broken parts and upgrading weak points though.
jayjayb0115 Yes, check out Shepherd Trans. If you're a youngin and never heard of John shepherd, he was THE man when it came to building wicked DSM's (Talon/Eclipse...pre Evo in the USA). He was running 9's on a street able eagle Talon back in the late 90s. He was racing when stefan papadikis was running his civics. Johns car competed in sport compact cars Ultimate Street Car Challenge back in the day.
I feel as if the GTR being a "supercar" is kinda odd the r31-34 where upgraded versions of their sedan counterparts but I suppose the 35 was a development on its own this time around but it's funny how we don't expect these cars to last to 140k without major problems... I could understand with cars like the LFA or something but a GTR.. should be reliable.
let's talk about that this GT-R go 140k+ miles. For a car with that performance, this is awesome. More expensive cars like McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, cant go 100k even if they could that will cost a lot of money.
$6-7,000 for the transmission issue? That really makes this care more affordable for what it is. Normally the number 1 thing oh your transmission fucks up there is no choice but to replace it with a $20,000 one.
Nothing against your friend, but I feel like it's not so much "Nissan things" but how well people take care of it. It doesn't matter if it's a 300k Lambo, if you don't take care of the paint, it will get messed up after 140k miles and things will fade.
I think wolverine owns this gtr and operates it with claws out hence so many scratches lol I have cars over 250K miles and are mint inside. Owners make a huge difference to the overall condition of the car.
I drove a 180k mile Lamborghini Huracan in Vagas. Being a rental with such high miles it was great. I didn’t even know the miles on it until I went to fill up gas and got curious about mpg 😂
Haven't watched it yet, but based on my 2005 350z that got 285,000 miles before a bad ac fan caused it to over heat and crack a piston, I'd say it probably had been pretty reliable
It doesn’t matter if it’s a compact car or a supercar. 140k miles will have the same outcome on both, paint chips interior wear etc is normal can’t nitpick something that’s out of your control
Can someone please explain why in the U.S. do they have 'Stop' signs in the middle of nowhere? I remember in Utah driving with my aunt, and it was flat and you could see nothing for miles. Yet in the middle of nowhere there was this 'Stop' sign, and my aunt would always dutifully stop. Flat road, see for miles, nothing around, no houses or anything, just flat fields, middle of nowhere ... Stop sign.
Because he's showing what Nissan did to cut costs on building this car. They're selling it in supercar money territory because of GT-R hype but they put all their cheap ass econobox plastics, trim, and user controls into it. You can tell the few pieces they did make specific for the GT-R - they have lasted 10 years but everything else has worn away. I've never seen a 10 year old car that worn out in the interior unless someone's been purposely abusive on their shit.
@@1MotoXRacer1 If that is what it takes to make a car with a 3.8 V6 TT be only 80,000 or even less than that pre owned, then thats the way the cookie crumbles. This is all at 62,000 miles, This has all happened before even 100k.... Ive since taken care of all these things and detail the car, clean it, and of course it has lots of engine mods... Its never left me stranded ever, and its never blown tons of check engine lights, but the interiors on all nissans are infamously shitty, not JUST the GTR
TylerTwoToms my brothers 13 Z has been great to us. He’s almost at 90k and the first 2.5 years the car lived outside in the sun and snow... everything paint,interior,wheels... seem fine. At the end of the day I’d rather have small issues like that than catastrophic failures
Six to seven thousand for a sensor . But the dealer said we don’t test we just replace...... $20000 is that legal 🤷♂️. Not a real question but that’s really sketchy
The seats for the gtr’s are known to wear so that’s surprising. The trim around the door snd radio are cheap and I have the same issue on my gtr with half the mileage.
The owner just sold this car recently, I live in Cincinnati and saw it on Facebook Marketplace. Nice to see it isn’t as finicky as a German car of the same level of performance certainly would be lol (coming from a BMW owner)
i think a clunky transmission is cool but is it really something to complain about? and did he seriously say the comfort mode barely does anything, my experience was different.
I'm pretty sure wear and tear is very normal regardless of the car brand, I'm pretty sure Expensive luxury brands and exotic cars a far worst. At the end of the day it all depends how much care you put into it, a lot of car companies deliberately design their cars and parts to fail after a certain time and usage..
It’s good to see that Matthew Lillard landed on his feet when the Scooby Do money ran out but someone tell him he doesn’t have to keep wearing the costume. WE ALL KNOW YOU PLAYED SHAGGY IN THE MOVIE MATT.
Question: How fragile are these transmissions? I am looking at a low mileage 2009 and was curious since Nissan told him it was 20k for the trans. I would have to take it to 3rd party as that pricing is NUTS!
Are the owners hands made of acrylic? How is there that much abrasion on the switches and dash? My first car had around the same milage but much older. Interior only showed signs of age on the seat (from entering/exiting) and the dash from sunlight lol
As a 2008 350z owner, I can tell youNissan had some type of trouble with the interior paint on the switch panels and some interior pieces. Its like a rubbery paint material and scratches if you breathe on it.Sucks it seems they used the same paint on the GTR.Most owners repaint the interior parts themselves or get aftermarket carbon fiber overlays. They may have fixed this when it comes to the 2009 to 2010 370z and up models and GTR's.Nissan went to crap after 2008-2009 seriously.
Had a 2018 Nissan Armada, the rock chips on the door were terrible. The absolute one thing that I hated about the Armanda. I think it's a Nissan paint thing.

i have a lot of those rock chips on the doors, it's mostly caused by driving beside a Semi picking up debris specially when it's raining.
I'm hoping to pick up a 2012 next month with only 6k miles on it. This is a good video to let me know i've got plenty of mileage to get out of iit if everything goes right. I'm prayin hard for sure.
2012 is a great year!
Love this review , makes me want to find a high mile one to purchase 😁
Mine has 220k My GUY!! and of course it still runs like a Champ. I keep up with the maintenance just like it did when I had my 08 Infiniti g37.
This is the best GT-R video I’ve seen, very informative 🤔👌
Thank you!
That gtr needs love😫
Its a nissan, it'll be be fine lol
He drove it like he should have.
True. I have a 5th Gen maxima. I baby that car. I will make a video of it.
Jesus 140k on this beast and no leaks. And then we see guys who have BMWs leak brand new right from the dealership at 0 mileage.
Great video sir.
Hope you keep producing videos like this. ❤
Those interior panels shouldn’t be too hard to replace. If it’s been on since new it’s time to remove that paint protection film. Buff the whole car, ceramic coat it, then put more film on the whole front end maybe the whole car.
if owner want to spend money on them... look at how dusty it is... not so much...
I can gaurentee they would look much worse at 140k miles with the same level of maintenance done
i got a 2004 G sedan and after a buff my homie made that 16 y/o paint shine like new! minor rock chips but it’s held up nicely
Nope not the lambo speaking for the huracans in this case
When I rented a GTR-R35, the rental company put a distance limit of 250 km! Best ride in my life.
There's one I've been thinking about renting and has a limit of only 100 miles.
It comes down to the driver caring. My STI has 40k miles on it at least 75% highway miles, and it looks like it drove off the showroom floor minus a few rock chips I've filled.
awesome video, thanks for covering this. Always wondered how these car held up to daily duty.
Thanks for watching!
It an 80K car but with the performance of a 200K+ car. This is a true performance car.
140,000 miles on a Japanese car isn’t bad if it was taken care of. My Gtr has 83,000 and run like it’s close to new , my 07 civic si has 196,000 miles and still pulls strong as hell! It all comes down to how you take care of your car.
Outstanding review. Very genuine and non bias. I have a 2017 and love it.
you earned a sub. thank you!
Thnx. for this. I plan on getting a high mileage 08-09 GTR.
Do not get the 08-09, like he said trans issues most likely will pop up and super expensive, save up more and get a 2012.
Yea get a 2012 plus , the early years will end up costing you to the point it may become undrivable
There is another GTR roaming around that 150k+ miles.
Did I miss it? No timing chain at 100k? Also the exhaust does sound slightly more throaty than stock. Are you sure it doesn’t have a midpipe?
I had a 2009 R35 in UK sold it with 159k Miles on the clock still going strong sold it for £24.5k :-( Litchfield imports knew of a higher miler than mine in the UK :-0
I would reduce the service schedule by half and acquire some more chips and few dents also beat on track where I can, it's just a beater
How much do transmission swaps cost at a competent independent shop? I’m assuming the $20,000 cost at the dealership is a pretty inflated number, as expected from them.
it never cheap process and had a lot of risk....alot of place don't want to deal with it as well..
campkira yeah I wouldn’t expect it to be cheap, but with how ubiquitous tuning is for the GT-R I would be really surprised to hear that there aren’t reputable shops, with expertise, that can handle the swap for less than $20,000
At around 7 minutes, $6-7k at Shepard transmission for a stage 1 (700hp) rebuild/upgrade.
Pube83 yeah I guess I just had it in my head that a swap to a new one would have more longevity. Thinking about it now, you’re probably better off replacing broken parts and upgrading weak points though.

Yes, check out Shepherd Trans.
Awesome video Shaggy !
Dang! My 2008 ISF with 178k had waaaay less wear on the interior. I would have expected better on the GTR.
That's Lexus/Toyota for ya.
Depends how you take care of the car and how sharp your nails are lol. I've seen some Toyota vehicles look way worse than some fairly cheap vehicles .
I have noticed Nissan and Infiniti have this issue of paint coming off the interior panels.
They have the same paddle shifters
Yeah my g35 has the same problem
Seems like Shaggy traded the Mystery Machine for a GTR.
This is a very interesting video. Thanks for posting it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have 72k on my 09 but damn this one has 140k - I feel better now.
Rattle can the plastics and touch up the leather touch points on the paddle shifters and shifter surround. Wear and tear fixed.
Nothing against your friend, but I feel like it's not so much "Nissan things" but how well people take care of it. It doesn't matter if it's a 300k Lambo, if you don't take care of the paint, it will get messed up after 140k miles and things will fade.
True an I agree
5,000 degrees LoL this was an epic video. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I still like Evos better!! Evos 8 and 9 mr are a beauty!! And Evo 8 and 9 fq-400!! Why you sold your Evo such an amazing car!!
I think wolverine owns this gtr and operates it with claws out hence so many scratches lol I have cars over 250K miles and are mint inside. Owners make a huge difference to the overall condition of the car.
Does anyone care about what kind of turn signal stalks your car has?
no but it's a sign that they kinda went the cheap route with some parts which isn't a really good thing usually. Example the transmission
Nope
Yes. Some cars *cough* ford *cough* like to put everything on one stalk. that drives me NUTS! and is the main reason I'll (probably) never buy one.
I drove a 180k mile Lamborghini Huracan in Vagas. Being a rental with such high miles it was great. I didn’t even know the miles on it until I went to fill up gas and got curious about mpg 😂
Yeah that huracan now has 200k+ miles on it. Its pretty reliable. Its the red one that belongs to royalty exotics right??
Yaseen Ali yep! You nailed it. Kinda crazy how reliable it is
@@pabbip9 Yeah bro people really under estimate the durability of the huracans
The GT-R is meant to be a daily...
Haven't watched it yet, but based on my 2005 350z that got 285,000 miles before a bad ac fan caused it to over heat and crack a piston, I'd say it probably had been pretty reliable
😂😂😂
Probably the best made video on the R35 and super upfront and honest 🤙🏼
I appreciate that!
10:45 that left lane hogger is a nightmare
Thats unfortunately why i buy bmws so i can handle them accordingly
A full exterior and interior detail and that car is good to go.
my '09 r35 is at 47k miles right now, i'm excited for my long journey ahead with my baby
Stop sign.
why do u point out nissan parts on a nissan
I personally own a 370Z and it does not matter what sports car you pick from nissan all the interiors fall apart, I have a 2014 Touring Z, and it needs a new steering wheel because of how worn the old one is, it also needed new floor mats, and the trunk lifts gave out......
Budget* Nissan parts
TylerTwoToms THATS THE POINT LOL
I love when people put them to use awesome content...here in fortworth I see this old man always driving his 90s model Ferrari
Six to seven thousand for a sensor . But the dealer said we don’t test we just replace...... $20000 is that legal 🤷♂️. Not a real question but that’s really sketchy
dont trust dealers bro
You talk about lack of suspension differences in modes not being much...has it ever been replaced? It's surely worn out at 140k if it's original.
Agreed. My 2016 has 20k miles on it and you can clearly tell the difference
Thanks for the video. Very relevant and informative. Keep it up!
Thank you!
what a respect. sounds like a vacuum cleaner 14:33 i just sign off after that.
140k or 240k?
The seats for the gtr’s are known to wear so that’s surprising. The trim around the door snd radio are cheap and I have the same issue on my gtr with half the mileage.
The owner just sold this car recently, I live in Cincinnati and saw it on Facebook Marketplace. Nice to see it isn’t as finicky as a German car of the same level of performance certainly would be lol (coming from a BMW owner)
I own it now, I’m in Columbus. 147k on it now but it’s 700hp now
@@slobodanzecevic4322 nice to see man, and good luck with the car! Hope it brings you 147k more miles of smiles
The owner of that GTR still on original rotor, he has bern driving it like a 70hp car thats why!real owner and real review!
i think a clunky transmission is cool but is it really something to complain about? and did he seriously say the comfort mode barely does anything, my experience was different.
Great vid! I legit thought you bought this at first.
Is it just me or did that start up at 14:37 sound rough?
I don't like that sound.
Nice video, where is the rest of the race with the ZL-1? How much faster was the camaro than the GT-R? How far is the moon from the earth?
I love the induction sound on the GT-R
Agree twice I ride in a gtr ......I don't know maybe people got bad backs ...it's not that stiff
Holy crap, tell the owner to clip his nails.
Question: How fragile are these transmissions? I am looking at a low mileage 2009 and was curious since Nissan told him it was 20k for the trans. I would have to take it to 3rd party as that pricing is NUTS!
I was under the impression they could hold a good bit of power
