My one success story has always been the mail! Love going to the mail box, bring it into the house or if it’s trash day I stand at the recycle bin right there and then! Take it to my desk and we’ll there I need to improve, lol. A work in progress every day. At the moment just getting out of bed in the morning is the big win!

ONE good habit I have is while the kettle is on and then while my tea steeps for a few minutes I do something in the kitchen. Wash out the pets' bowls - put away the dishes in drainboard - wipe down the table etc. I got into that by forcing myself to stay near the kettle. I would wander off and the kettle would be howling away and half the water would have gone away via steam. Yes I would forget the kettle was on 3 minutes after I put it on 😧 One in one out with the mugs (it was 4\4) was when I called my Honey Clutter Fairy Jr 😂 I said to my granddaughter Lacey - who is 7 now this was about a year ago - let's clean out your two clothes drawers so we have room for the clothes you will need for the new season. Kids actually do NEED new clothing because they are always changing. SHE said to ME okay Grandma we need 3 piles - keep- donate -toss. Whew I am doing pretty good not raising a Mini Me hoarder!!! Full Set Syndrome is another thing I try to steer her away from. Kids are taught by advertising that they NEED to collect the entire collection of LOL DOLLS or Hatchimals etc. Then before you know it Series II comes out and it goes on and on. She's very good at being happy with what she gets I have to say. My son always was too. I snapped myself out of FSS a few years ago, and have never gone back. I don't need every paper pad in a collection or every colored pencil a brand makes - I very happily realize that now. And I'm okay with it. Just don't try to take away any I already have lol 😈

I will be 58 on Thursday , and usually feel much older. I live in a ranch style house, but do have 13 steps going to the basement where the laundry area is. I had back, neck, shoulder and knee surgery. That last 5 steps coming back up is almost impossible sometimes. Your routine is definitely a good one!

I do the same thing- little chores Ican manage while waiting for my tea- or washing dishes as I’m waiting for dinner to cook so I don’t have so much to wash after dinner! Mini tasks help so much - that and breaking down large tasks into little ones to eventually get the big one done!

Thank you so much! My mama taught us to “do it as you go”. Our house was never cluttered or dirty. She did that with 5 kids and being a pastor’s wife for large churches. But... unfortunately some of her example didn’t stick! I didn’t know what it took until I had my own family. I love listening to you because you not only motivate me, but you give me so much direction that I needed to be reminded of! Many, many tips that I had no idea how to accomplish. So, thank you again!

My laundry time saver hack is to have multiple baskets for taking dry washing off the line. I use 4 baskets that stack when not being used, and when I fold the washing, it’s already sorted into ironing, household (towels etc), my clothes & his clothes. If they need to go into the dryer to finish drying, then I sort into length of time in the dryer eg underwear seperate from towels.

Love the tips! Believe it or not. My hubby and son have more clothes and shoes then I do. And they have more of a hard time purging their stuff more then I do in that department. Now for me purging my craft supplies is my problem, but since this staying home order ,i took a long hard look at everything and it took me a couple days but I sat down and asked myself " are you ever gonna finish this project?" " Do you really need all of this paper scraps and cardboard boxes?" And I was coming up more of no's then Yes's, so I donated to an organization that takes those supplies and has an floor in their store that is just for teaches to come and get what they need for their classroom supplies and they are all Free for them,so when I took all of the boxes and bags to them they were so blown away at the amount I donated and it felt great two ways,Made me feel organized in my craft room and knowing that a teacher won't have to spend any money on certain things they need . so it was a Win,Win. I use to use old magazines to make paper mache things like pumpkins and easter eggs all when my son was small. Love your channel!! God Bless!😘

My sister and I purged my closet about two years ago. It was great fun to do it together. We put the donated clothing into a box, closed it when it was full and immediately brought it to the local thrift store. The old jeans I am using to sew decorative stockings for the grandkids for Christmas. I cut them out immediately to eliminate the bulk and have them all ready when it's time to sew. Oh, it's time to purge my closet again! ;-)

Great tips!!! Looking back on 2020's items to improve time, energy, & money when possible:
Mudroom area - 2 bins - recycle & shred for anything coming into the house. Hubby's responsible for the next steps for these bins.
Went paperless for anything possible. Paper items "to keep" go in one of two baskets "address weekly" & "6 mos hold then purge".
I designated one credit card for auto paying bills - this way they're always on time and my record of pymt is in one place then I simply divide part of each paycheck into equal payments to that cc with the balance going into the checking account for food, gas, etc.
We have two bills that require an actual check pymt (how archaic lol) so in January & June when purging (as previously mentioned) I write out all 6 mos checks in advance put them in their stamped addressed envelopes (SASES lol) & store them in a $T coupon accordian file in my desk to send out each month.
We refinanced (after 5 years in this house) & dropped our pymt by $123/mth.
I scheduled yearly drs in September and our dentists September & March (after sumner fun & before the holiday rush). I used to do it at the beginning of the calendar year but I find I'm more of a hermit in January and just want to put my house back in order after the holiday craziness.
Positive by-products of COVID have been, like many, cleaning, purging, & donating. I also found shopping online for groceries a positive in regards to time & money - my bill was dropping because I wasnt in the store seeing sales etc. Unfortunately I've noticed price increases the last two months and I'm concerned the "doom & gloom preppers" might be a little correct in their predictions of food shortages vs pricing, sigh 🤔
I've discovered the joy of card making as an addition to my crafting repertoire.
On the whole, even with the chronic pain & depression of fibromyalgia, I've kept to my list, with the exception of the September medical apps due to COVID. They've both been bumped back into January again lol.
I still struggle with the "bigger projects" section of life right now. I find myself overwhelmed so I just keep trying the "chunk it" method but it's frustrating because I've always been a work til it's done person. I'm being taught (kicking & screaming) about patience lol.
I almost forgot a very important addition to my sphere - you. I really appreciate our connection via TH-cam, Facebook & E-mails & the connections I've made there as well. So Thank You for all you give me & us just by being you!!!! 💜

Hi Norrine, great tips, as aways. With regard to dealing with receipts, I keep mine in a pretty flowered box that you can buy in any craft store. They are quite decorative and can be placed "in the open" and no one will know what it's hiding. Once a month or so I go through the receipts and clip them together by date, which makes it simple to locate a recept when needed.

    • @TheCraftyOrganizer

Bullet journaling saves me from wasting time, but also logging the past, and scheduling the future. I also throw something out for every piece if clothing I buy. I do this with other things as well. No storage for unused things, unless it is holiday decor, which I also limited to a limited amoubt of space/boxes.

  • @isabellabihy8631

Hello Norrine, I'd plan for no more than 60% of the available time, it makes room for unexpected events. It's also a precaution if you struggle with mobility issues, you never know if it's going to take longer to complete. Five a day does not only apply to veg intake, but to getting small things done. I totally agree to the points (1) know where the thing you're about to buy will have a place to go in you home, (2) purge one, get new one (clothes, shoes).

As far as Files, I have a file box, one of the small plastic ones with a latching lid and a handle, I have one hanging file for each month. Everything that comes in that month goes in that file. I do have a FEW other files for other things, one for things pertaining to my elderly parents for example. At the end of the year I pull out anything we may need for taxes and the rest gets shredded or burned. So much easier to find things and SO MUCH LESS paper clutter. The box also holds a binder with our budget and other important things. It fits neatly into my closet.

Back some months ago, I decided that I needed a designated place to open my mail. The location between my kitchen & dining area has been the best choice for me. There is a trash bin available to immediately discard junk mail & excess envelopes & packaging of all kinds. I also have handy an inked roller to mark out my name & address (no shredder yet), a letter opener, & a box cutter. I am able to open envelopes & packages, trash what I do not need or want, & carry what stays to its respective place & leave it. Having everything I need in the same place has eliminated a major headache for me. Now, I just have to work on keeping paperwork better organized by having a better filing system & a designated time to get it done! Thank you for your suggestions! Hugs 🌹

Sadly, I have come in after a few organizers who just shoved things into boxes and marked them all, "to go through" for the home owner. That is N O T what a professional organizer does! A good one will be working WITH you, so you know where things are - AND things will be so neatly organized that it should all be easy to find. But even if you forget... they should be able to help you remember where it is! Go by reviews!

I'm a crafter, so I make myself do one spot cleaning before I can sit to craft or watch craft channels. It's working! My mailbox is across the yard where my trashcan is kept, I dump sales, politics, and anything like that before I carry the bills in. My problem is clothes, and tools I need to follow your advice a purge an item to bring another in. Thank you Norrine

Do the clothes by type! Just pull out shirts, for example. Really look at each one. Check for stains, holes, etc. Then you can decide if you still love it, or if you can donate or toss it. Then celebrate and take a break before you start the next type of clothing. You've got this!

All very good tips! Morning is when I have the most energy up until about 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I'm pretty good about purging my clothes and I'm good about the bills being paid on time. I'm not a big shopper except when it comes to crafts.....then watch out.....lol! Actually I have been better about it lately because I don't like spending too much time in a store with people who don't social distance or wear a mask! Where I lack is shredding documents.....I admit I have a whole big bin full of papers to shred. I will honestly try to schedule some time each day or every second day to do this for a specific amount of time. I like to make lists of tasks that I want to do the following day so I will put that on my list for tomorrow! Thank you for sharing and hope you don't live close to the California fires! When I finish loosing weight I’m going to have a capsule wardrobe! It’s such a good idea and I can buy just a few things from sustainable brands that don’t exploit their workers & thrifted items 😊 purging clothing is getting easier as things are too big! I think what you said at the beginning about energy after 4pm/7pm etc is gold. Our body clocks wind down after we eat our dinner so we start to produce melatonin to sleep later. If we start doing a lot or are working in bright light/on screens, our body thinks it it still daytime and wakes us back up. I am a former insomniac so my life changed when I learnt this. I also loved your no shopping till you have a spot for it. I would add no free items to that! Trying to teach this one to hubby with the VHS tapes he just bought home!

One thing that has helped me is that I only do grocery pickup. I can look and find new stuff to buy if I’m in the store. Even on Instagram has to many things to buy, it makes me hate to open Instagram. I like the idea one in one out. This is hard for me I have way to many clothes. What I do is put a collapsable container that I leave in the closet so if I’m in there I’ll go though a couple items and get rid of it. Just a little at a time has helped me cull out stuff I don’t wear anymore or want to get rid of. Thanks again love Linda From Ammon Idaho ❤️🙋🏽‍♀️

    You rock!
I always overcommit because I have a very hard time saying "no".
I've been doing the Rx reminder for a couple years. It has been great!!
Apparently, retail therapy is a form of self-medicating for people with mental disorders. I wasn't aware of that until recently. It was a lot easier when I lived in an RV and the apt to follow the one in one out rule. Now that I have this big house, it seems kind of empty in places, so it's much harder to do that.

I am used to throw away junk mail as soon as I get it and I have a drawer for all the papers I need to keep after they are settled and put them in the files once a year when I have to do the taxes. This is a 5 hours job but we mostly get a lot of money back, so it's a high salary per hour LOL (note: In Germany the employer pays your tax directly before paying you the net amount and you have to request some of it back for tax reducing expenditures from the fiscal authorities once a year). I sooooo wish this video was closed captioned, because I really could have used some hints to making changes here. But I have gotten a few hints and tips from reading all the comments. Hubby had a massive stroke 5 years ago, and I am his caregiver. He has problems with talking now, but before his stroke, he was my extra hearing aid -- telling me what was said. Being severely hearing impaired with Nerve Deafness, even with my hearing aids, I could not decipher the words being said. Gosh, to think 30 years ago I had perfect hearing. But with Nerve Deafness, there is no cause and no cure. Your hearing just continues to decrease as the disease progresses. But hubby and I still make a great team - even though he can't talk too well and I can't hear. We are still able to communicate in our own way. :)

My favorite tip, and my most needed one, is not to micromanage my files. It especially applies to my digital files. I was raised around electronics and when I finally got into computers I was cutting my teeth on the DOS operating system where you created your own file hierarchy and put things where you wanted them. Windows was a total contradiction to everything that I had learned and practiced, so I still save everything under the 'save as' feature and place it where I want it. Little by little I am starting to reorganize and put like things together as you suggest, but it's an overwhelming task because I have years worth of things that I've saved - especially digital photographs. Oh my! All my plans to go through and sort them have met with an overwhelming experience. If anyone out there can suggest an affordable program for going through and locating duplicate digital files I would be grateful for the recommendation. My hard drive is filled with files that are overwhelming, and it creates a real hassle when I have to replace a computer which I did fairly recently. I have got a handle on the physical photographs because I have not only photos but negatives and slides from photos I took since I was in grade school. I will be 67 this week - so that's a lot of photos. I have everything to start scrapbooking, and I've always intended to do so, but sewing projects and card making projects always seem to take priority because they have deadlines. I will say that I am fairly well organized in general. I can put my finger on just about everything in my craft room unless I have recently relocated it. Then I might have to search a little because my brain is still focused on where it WAS. The kitchen is hopeless because it is no longer mine. My husband does all of the cooking and I stay out of there. I cooked for the first 30 years of our marriage and he's been cooking for the past eight. I tell him he has 22 more years to go before it's my turn again! I just can't stand long enough to stir a pot or to do the prep and cleanup, and I find it difficult to do prep work sitting in a chair at a table because of the height. I know that if I lived alone I would have to do it, but he loves to cook - and he loves taking care of me even more. I have to be careful because he can make me very dependent and I have always been a strong and independent person. Funny how things change as life happens...
