Privacy Brokers are required to delete the data if you request them to do so. TL;DR Cloaked and similar services don't remove the data, they make requests to data brokers for data deletion on your behalf. The issue is that there's hundreds of them, and most people don't have the time or energy to invest in tracking down all the brokers and requesting their data be deleted. Not to mention you have to constantly keep doing it, because your data is going to keep getting out there and being resold to them, whether it's through your mobile phone carrier, email provider, ISP, etc. There are ways to mitigate this, but again, most of the general public doesn't have the time or energy to invest in learning that skill set. So with Cloaked and other services like them, you are giving them the right to act on your behalf when they contact the data brokers and request your data to be deleted. Are the date brokers actually deleting the data? Who knows, but services like Cloaked wouldn't have anyway of knowing or controlling that. All they do is make the requests for you over and over again. The only real way to know I guess would be if you were a person who receives a lot of spam/scam calls or emails and the number of those drastically reduces or goes away entirely after you sign-up for the service. As for removing data from the darkweb? I doubt they can actually do that. At most they can monitor and inform you when they find your info on the darkweb but nothing more. Is the service worth it? Really depends on the person. If the person in question isn't adverse in internet safety, it can be a solid mitigation tool to help cut down on the spam/scam they will receive. I could see this service being good for someone like my grandparents, who I have helped save from getting scammed multiple times.
