I planted a Crimson King Maple 23 years ago. It was in a low spot of my backyard that could see the excess rainfall. In the last few years the bark started to crack, This year, I had to cut it down as it didn't make it through the summer and hardly produced any leaves and all the branches were dry as a bone. I miss this tree.
I've planted 3 crimson sunset maples. Some tips how to properly prune dormant. I've had to cut down and say goodbye to many beautiful trees from never pruned, weather damage due to "multiple trunks" etc. Would love some tips on pruning
I have three of these and I am getting two cut down this season. Plant red crimson maple or Japanese maple or fiery oak or even honey golden locust etc for shade.not this! It looks like dark shadow of sadness all year around except in spring it looks the best
This tree is not good looking compared to many other beautiful maples to chose from and it has many problems. Not good tree to plant near house or near concrete. Dont plant this if you’re not in a huge backyard away from house etc. its so dense and dark that it blocks all sun and invites mosquitoes, moths, Gypsy caterpillars, and all sorts of stuff drops every day from this tree that can stain the concrete or surfaces even from leaves if it rains after. Every season something new drops so its high in maintenance

Does this tree drop helicopters or anything else, besides leaves, to muck up my landscaping or fill my gutters?
No
No but the leaves are huge and will shade out anything under it and those giant leaves might muck up your gutters.
