Japanese Maples are easy to grow either in containers or in the ground. Their color & graceful nature is what I love about them. I started my small collection 4 yrs ago w the bloodgood. She’s a big beauty today 6’ tall 5’ wide. Trombly red sentimental is great for narrow space. Summer Gold is best for full sun. Sango Kaku coral bark is just striking in Fall/Winter.
"regular shmegular" 😆👏🏼 i love it. just came across your channel and I have to tell you I love your energy and how informative you are about these amazing specimens. your communication is smooth and on point, i could listen to you for hours. cant wait to dig in the channel to watch more videos. and yes i'm obsessed with maples as well, my newest is the mikazuki.
great info! i too am addicted. starting seeds for a lot of varieties in November. and have a couple tiny red maples, but also just ordered some cuttings pinkish one and will attempt cloning/root this weekend.
Great video! A lot of excellent info in a short time. This year I have also become addicted to Japanese maples- so much fun! My favorites so far are Beni Shichihenga and Lileeanne’s Jewel.
Thanks for the great video and all of the information. I would consider getting some Acer japonicum cultivars too if you don't have any. They have interesting looking foliage and beautiful fall color. The ones I have are Aconitifolium and Green Cascade.
Thank you for doing this video. It is timely since I have also gotten the Japanese maple bug 😅 I appreciated hearing about Aureum since it is one on my list. Loved seeing the maples you have in your garden!
Great video, Your enthusiasm for Acers seems very genuine. As is mine. I got Lillyanne’s Jewel this year. You might like Hot Blonde. It was a 1 gallon this spring and has grown about 4 inches in 2 months. Also fast growing for me was Sangyo Kaku. Six feet in 2013 and maybe 22 feet today. Full sun no problemo. Thanks again.
Thank you for sharing! 😍 I have a collection of 33 maples, and 5 more on their way 😁and it is only my first year. My favorites are Viridis as well, Jordan, Hana matoi, Moonrise, Orangeola, Red Pygmy and Koto no ito.
@@everydaygardeningtips well, I live in Bulgaria and there are not much more variations here than those I have 😁 There is only one person grafting here and I don't know where he takes his maples from. Maybe Netherlands. Like yours, my Lilleeannes Jewel and Geisha gone wild are no more than one foot short 😂
So many beautiful Japanese Maples! I want to add more to this property. We have just one Coral Bark. At our last 2 houses we had quite a few, but haven't had a chance to add a lot this year... hopefully we can get a couple of these you mentioned!
Great info and I to live in Marietta with over 150 varieties of these wonderful trees my issue is just knowing which trees to put in full sun and which to put in morning sun and afternoon shade I'm presently getting ready to move some around Love you garden and yes I to am addicted to these trees and cannot get enough I buy some from Mr maple and many from Whitman farms with Lucille she is great and her maples are second to none Plus she has a great many trees that are not available at other nurseries Thanks for your video love you taste in these wonderful trees God bless and happy Thanksgiving @@ My addicted maple friend !!
have 2 koto No Ito. In fall are shades of green, orange, red & yellow all at the same time. Crazy Beautiful. Your super slow growth rate on some may have something to do with that hard clay.
I’ve heard such good things about that tree! It’s definitely on my wish list. Also… man, why didn’t I think to connect the slow growth rate with my clay soil. You’re so right 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I LOVE Japanese maples. Just got back from Japan and saw sooooo many beautiful trees. I live in the Atlanta climate too . I wanted to put one in the front of my home with full sun. Is this a bad idea?
Hii! Not a totally horrible idea - it will likely have great spring color - but depending on how much rain we get in the summer/fall - it might have limited fall color and instead just have crispy leaves instead of a big fall color change. I have viridis in full full sun and that’s been my experience with it. Crispy falls; but otherwise great
I recently joined the Japanese maple brigade. (I bought two 1 gallon trees this past weekend) I also live in the metro Atlanta area. Do you do public tours of your garden?
I’m also around Atlanta. Where do you get your Japanese Maples from? I am up to 47 and have gotten all of mine from Pikes Nursery. Would love to pick up a Lilian’s Jewel but haven’t found one in person so far.
Mixed border nursery - it’s a road trip, but she’s got hundreds of varieties and beats Pike prices- she’s the nicest lady, doesn’t have a website - she only has a Facebook. Call for an appointment and expect to spend an hour at-least - she’ll show you all around (she’s adorable). She posts photos and prices on Facebook of what’s catching her eye: facebook.com/mixedbordernursery?mibextid=JRoKGi
@@everydaygardeningtips have you tried Twin Branch Nursery in Woodstock!! they have NICE Japanese Maples!!!! (and a LOT) I just bought a large (20+ gallon) Purple Ghost for $450 and a large Mikawa Yatsubusa for $300 (and they had plenty)
I visited Maple Ridge Nursery in Gay, GA this past weekend and bought two 1 gallon trees (Mikawa Yatsabusa and Peve Stanley). This nursery and Gay are just south of Fayetteville, GA. They have a good selection of trees in various sizes. A drive to this nursery will be well worth your time. Bring plenty of money. There’s some beautiful specimens there. 😉😎 (If/when you visit, tell the owner that I sent you. 😎) Maple Ridge Nursery has a website and they will ship trees throughout the USA (1-3 gallon).
I like the advice: “$100 tree, $100 hole. When I finally put my potted-up maples in our clay soil, I plan to create nice well-draining beds for them to land in. My favorite not in this video: ‘celebration’, ‘pung kil’, ‘summer gold’.
I planted a bright purple queen laceleaf maple 2 months ago in Middle georgia, approximately 18 inchs tall when planted , its on a slight slope with very sandy , reddish clay with some white clay (kaolin) mixed in...I actually been watering it 3 times a week, what im getting at its been 2 months and its already twice the size and new branches approx 12 inches of growth, and also 6 inches taller is this uncommon to grow this quick. ( Its planted in the ground not a container)
..but the whole american chestnut/japanese chestnut, white walnut/butternut issue with japanese walnuts and now japanese maples?..these a better pick over sugar maples because why again? Jmho.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I caugh the bug because my wife wanted a red J.M.. Now I have over 20 all colors 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Those two brothers know what they are doing.😂 I stopped watching the 10@10 because I couldn’t help myself 😅. Anyway she saw the redbud last year with the pink or purple buds but the tree did nothing for me when it leafed out. Last week I came across the sunrise redbuds 🫣. The question for you is have you seen the Flamethrower redbud. 😍😍 If you haven’t I’M SORRY I just did that to you.🤷🏾 I’m waiting for delivery of my flamethrower from Lowe’s now.
by the way, you did not talk too much!! love this
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️ this made my day
Wow…you are a wealth of knowledge! I love your passion for Japanese Maples.
