For me it’s the fact that my great great grandmother was actually treated there for bipolar but they didn’t know how to deal with it so they gave her a lobotomy she was so scary after that. She just sat and rocked in a chair making a creeping sound licking her lips till she died

They messed up her brain so bad. That's horrible.
I'm so sorry she had to endure that. Mental Health is one thing we slacked on for way too long. At first, because no one understood it, but when they started to blame it on junk science, like the Eugenics movement or Demonic Possession (which actually makes more sense than the former) those suffering from it didn't stand a chance. My great aunt was in Eloise hospital, in Westland MI a few times in the 60's and though she was never formally diagnosed, I think she probably suffered from BP as well. Luckily her sister was a nurse, and knew EXACTLY how deplorable the conditions were, and refused to keep her in there. She took her home and cared for her the best she could, until she passed in 85. I barely remember her, but on her good days, she was apparently hilarious. She used watch the Mickey Mouse Club RELIGIOUSLY, with her Mouse Ear hat on, and that's my only memory of her, is sitting in her lap while she watched and sang along. Thank God, she was spared the same fate, and God Keep your Grandmother.🌹🙏

That sucks. My sister in law developed bipolar due to her alcoholism and then she started smoking weed which has caused her go think shes a goddess. She goes up to cars screaming at them f you and flipping them off, trying to fight everyone on the street. Were trying to get her help but shes refusing help, were scared shes gonna be a crack head on the corner. But then i see stuff like this and it freaks me out and makes me think like what is worse? A druggie or having her at these facilities killing her slowly.

Josh if you haven't been there yet I would highly recommend going to the Harrisburg State Hospital, formerly known as the Pennsylvania State Lunatic Hospital. Unfortunately you can't go inside the buildings because of the amounts of asbestos and lead paint, but the grounds are sprawled out over almost 300 acres, and you can look inside the windows to see some of the halls and entryways. As of right now it's still state property and the grounds are opened to the public(so long as you're respectful of the area you won't be asked to leave), but by September of this year the property will be purchased by a redevelopment company, and there's a high possibility a majority of the buildings will be demolished. The buildings are beautiful and ominous at the same time, the area is also haunted which isn't surprising, given the history.
Is this the place that's near the farm show complex?
Harrisburg State hospital permanent former known as Pennsylvania hospital usually you can't go inside the buildings because the amount of empressled paint but the guards are sprawled out over almost 3000 acres, and someone in the hole to the entry

I really enjoyed this empathetic and touching tour of this historic hospital. You also captured the unbelievable medical cruelty that these people endured. I'm sure that this history would love to be forgotten but it's important to remember the mistakes that past generations have made so that we can move on and keep those tortuous practices as just history. This building is full of secrets and I know that many of these souls want to tell their story. There are many others who are probobly extremely dangerous in spirit form. Be careful...please. I can't wait to see the paranormal investigation. Sending love and prayers from Nova Scotia Canada ❤️.
This is in my hometown of Weston, WV. I walked past it every day to and from school. It was still open then, and very creepy. 1972-1974. My sister was also employed there as a secretary for a couple years in the late 70's.

A lot of abuse, poverty, abandonment and PTSD (no therapy) and that was as children before they grew into adults that ended up here from all of that trauma. All of that old trauma needs to be cleared from that place. It's a sin that they're just trapped there with no paranormal expert to clear all of that density and send them back into soul world where they can reincarnate back into the physical for a fresh start..

It's nice to see it during the daytime and see some of the daytime tour. When TFIL was there, they just had the ghost tour in the dark. Will be interesting to see if you have any interactions with Lilly like TFIL did.
I got so excited when I saw the title of this video. I grew up in Weston, WV and lived there until 2009. I went to the first haunted house they held in the asylum once it was bought back in 2007. It is still one of my favorite places to see when I visit home.

There’s backpacks that you can turn into a rolling suit case, so you can attach wheels and take them off, and attach a pull out handle and take it off, so incase you want to wear the backpacks you can or you can change one into the rolling suit case
I love that they are restoring this historic building. I see so many architectural treasures just abandoned and crumbling. The tornado siren going off - to me they are almost as scary as the tornado themselves, perfect timing to set the mood lol.

I'm so glad you did a video on this! Part of my family lives in Weston, WV and I go to this building as much as I can while visiting! It has such a creepy/ disassociated vibe as you walk up the steps that's almost addicting to experience! I almost worked there as a guide, but life didn't work out for me to move from Ohio to WV unfortunately. Very cool location, especially if you take the history tour! Loved the video man! I’ve done the public overnight ghost hunt and I love the place! I always have a lot of personal experiences, hear footsteps, shuffling sounds, voices, doors moving, seen shadow people. Definitely doesn’t disappoint. I highly recommend anyone doing the overnight ghost hunt! 👻

He went to Pennhurst Mental Asylum and the total lack of respect he was showing was disgusting. The lady who was with them and telling them about the Asylum at one point just wanted to leave she had had enough of him.
Anyway it's my opinion and I have no respect for them. If anyone out there like them good for you.

Seclusion rooms still exist today but they are used for the patients own safety and the safety of people around them. For example if the patient has a violent meltdown or also if they want to be alone
You should definitely bring back the travel vlogs! The Thailand series and Japan series were BOMB! Specially for people, like myself, who can’t travel to awesome places like that. Plus the places you travel to are very unique and odd which makes the videos even better!

If you make a trip to WV to go here I recommend also traveling up to moundsville to the Wv state penitentiary, awesome place went there on a field trip before! Tfil also went!

So happy you came to WV. Hope you got to explore more of our beautiful state. Been to the asylum several times to learn about the history (which is fascinating) and the paranormal of course. I could tell you stories - stuff flying through the air, figures, doppelganger and the chef. I also had a 4th cousin that was in the asylum. They called him Tarzan.

I love the work that they put into the restoration of the building. But I would have loved to have seen the crumbling paint and wallpaper before the restoration of the building. Like what did the whole building look like, what was falling and decaying. I love how much work these people put into this. Love the touch of the original floors in the bedrooms

I have had a family member admitted to that asylum a long time ago and he has escaped a few times. I also have family that live in WV as well.

I haven't made that one yet. I've been to the ORIGINAL Eloise in Westland Mich. Topeka State in Kansas. Pennhurst Asylum in Pa. And finally Waverley Hills. But T.A is the top of my list.
We got to investigate it in 2020, November. It was an amazing place.

Apparently there’s a siren that goes off at 11pm at night, idk if you saw that in a TFIL video, it’s their curfew. Idk if they still do it now, but it’s what was mentioned.
Cerfew is 10:06 every night. This is my hometown.
The siren also goes off with a 911 call. I was an EMT in Weston for awhile also.
We have family in the area so we go every time we get a chance. My favorite urban explorer and my favorite place. Awesome!

Was it possibly noon when the siren was going off? I know growing up in a small town in PA that a siren would go off like that at noon until a few years ago. Not sure why but I always knew when noon was lol.
My town does a tornado siren test at 11 am every Saturday. So it could have been that. Also, when TFIL was there, an alarm went off in the evening (just before they really started their investigation) and later found out that it was a Covid curfew alarm.
I live here right down the road from the asylum and the siren goes off multiple times a day anytime any of the first responders are going to an accident, fire, etc…
Oklahoma they do the same thing but I think just on Saturdays.

I took a tour years ago there. Very creepy even in the day. The room with the patients artwork was disturbing.
This is awesome. I work in a 175 year old psychiatry hospital, in Canada it is currently still up and running. Will be closing in a few years they are currently building a new one! I’m working night shift tonight, I haven’t heard anything or seen but for sure a vibe.
Kirkbride architecture was supposed to be peaceful and beautiful for the disturbed inhabitants.
That siren is at the municipal building across the street it goes off when there is an emergency call, and it also goes off every night at 10pm because Weston has a curfew for people under the age of 18. if you are under 18 you have to be on your own property by 10pm I used to live in Weston for a few months.

My home state! I lived 15 minutes from Trans-Allegheny my whole life until my family and I moved to Georgia 5 years ago! I've been there many many times!! Flashlight tours and the haunted houses around Halloween time are the best!

Hiya! My family purchased this beautiful Kirkbride hospital in 2008 and we've been blessed to renovate and preserve the building and educate the public on its 130 year operational history. I've finally gotten around to watching this video, but the day y'all came I believe I met you in the giftshop! Thanks to anybody who's seen this video and has taken the time to visit.
