When I was a kid we used to go there in the early 60s with my parents they used to fish for Bonita as kids had our little poles and would be catching perch for them to use his bait and there was people everywhere back then it was quite the place I remember the parents were going to buy a piece of property there but thank God they never did

This location is so mesmerizing. It was literally a thriving, popular tourist location turned toxic, deadly and abandoned. It's interesting and terrifying at the same time. Insane to think people lived here and there were stores etc but it looks like this now.
I've been there recently and there's still some ppl there but very very few and some small ponds of water are bright pink. It's wild.

Josh I did a 30 page report on the Salton Sea in college, it has always fascinated me - I want to say THANK YOU for mentioning the pollution hazards the drying sea will eventually cause in your rundown of the history. It's a part that not many people realize. So many nearby communities are suffering health hazards because of the toxic sand blowing thru their towns. Soooo excited to see you explore here!

It comes from the gas station down the freeway. My aunt lives here.
There are a lot of fresh water rivers around there. A lot of the areas draw from the rivers and purify it. Plus more developed cities have running water, sewer, etc.

This place looks like a fallout game world
Oh how FUN! I would love nothing more than to fix up a lil ghost town!! The lady fixen up the hotel and her daughter should get a historical committee started and apply for grants. They might be able to fix up a section of the town rebuilding homes & businesses to the point they were at their prime... and show the elemental destruction. They could also allow people to have a guided explained tour of the destroyed areas. Definitely hire the local artists to help give it a weird vibe and sell artwork. Maybe they could get tourists who enjoy the macabre or creepy to come visit.
Technically while it's cool now & would be for the first few years. Once successful it would no longer be cool except for yuppies with kids. Right?

It's going to be worth a fortune again someday. Especially if they actually clean up all the pollution at some point.
It does sound like a lot of fun. Especially coming up with the art exhibits.
But also a ton of work & I have bad fibromyalgia so I'm probably out.
Wouldn't mind spending a couple of weeks hanging out, exploring & fixing things up.

I've never heard of this place before. It's very interesting seeing a small mostly deserted town in the middle of nowhere. I would hate to live there. What do the residents do for jobs there? I mean, other than that one person running the convenient store. How far away is the nearest town?
Also, traveling to every country in the world is very impressive. She even went to Cuba and other countries not really friendly to Americans or women? (Like some Islamic countries for example.)
Kara and Nate only got to their goal of 100 countries in 4 years; they would have continued on had it not been for 2020. Still they have managed to find some interesting places in the US.
There are a lot of developed cities within 1/2 to hr drive where they can go to work. And some people are retired.

Slab city is still.their and so are the people onlt the man that made that crazy artistic mountain died so i think a guys old mate new now continues it for him but everyone else is still.the same living like they do in a lawless part of town theirs vids on youtube

Dude I’ve gone there with my family last year and that place is super dope has a super weird vibe in the town but a little ways away there’s a place called salvation mountain that an older guy built by himself and it’s right next to slab city which was an old military base. Highly recommend this place to people to go visit.
No I don’t know about their food and water but the living conditions r pretty rough. At slab city people r living in tents, trailers and makeshift shacks. You would Think that people wouldn’t like it there but people actually move out there and I guess they like that lifestyle🤷♂️. But most of the people r nice and the community’s very close

Someone definitely from the South, most likely either South Carolina, Georgia, or Alabama that was there ate at CHURCHES Chicken. Growing up, 80’s early 90’s Churches was the place to get real southern fried chicken, and I do mean southern fried. By the way, Churches is still open is select cities in the south.

Hi Josh. Wow, Salton Sea is dangerous? My childhood-teen yesrs- & 20s best friend used to go there a lot with her family. This was in the 60s & 70s when we were kids. The old best friend I was telling you about, we were pregnant with our daughters in 1981, & our biggest craving was Church's Chicken. Lol. Big buckets of chicken too that we'd take to the drive-in across the street, & just stuff our faces. Lol. Wow what a happy crew you all are.
This was incredible. We were just talking about going to Salton Sea about a year or 2 ago. I had no idea it was like that now. Rise above y'all.

This is one of those places that the people knew of the difficult landscape while moving in and continued to ignore it until it was real. Goes for anyone moving or building next to lakes for water, airports, race tracks, etc. You can't go moving in under the assumption there's nothing wrong while you're reading endless news articles of how defunct the land is.
It all looks abandoned. And scary. But that’s awesome
Josh, I hope you see this. I think you should come see Elderwood Avenue, East Cleveland, OH. It's an abandoned neighborhood. It goes down Elderwood and up like 3 side streets. There is a homeless man that lives there named Paul. He's cool people. Only some of the buildings are sturdy enough to enter. And I would recommend leaving before it gets dark. Just because it's a sketchy neighborhood. But it's amazing to see. Apparently a big fire broke out. And everyone evacuated over time. If you happen to look it up, and find anymore info, I'd like to know it all. I can't seem to find much info.

I grew up in Banning and at the end of summer, we would go there so I could play in the water. It would heal my mosquito bites like magic. But then they closed it down because of the pollution. Seeing it now, brings back memories yet it saddens me.
