- deep in the mountains of Switzerland on the border of France lies a bunch of abandoned Volkswagen beetles and other cars that's been sitting here for maybe 20 plus years. it's full of mysteries because why are so many of them hidden in a cave are they stolen or what we don't know.

You know, the thing I love about urban exploration videos is that they preserve the memory of something that Was. With abandoned houses, it's a way of preserving the memory of the people that lived there, even when their identities are hidden by the explorer to protect the house and the family that might still be around. It's letting the world know this person existed, they LIVED, they were HERE. With buildings and caves full of cars, it's a peek at history, it helps preserve the information about those places, about those things. It's a form of preservation for when those things are gone.
Well said.
That's crazy never thought about that
Very well put . All class !!!
At 12:36 of the video. There's another date above 1980 that looks like it says 1905 with the 0 gone
Why wouldn't the steering wheels be on right side of car for that country?
I haven't seen Josh in a couple years. It's so endearing that he has the same enthusiasm and sincerity.
This was one for in the books bro! Happy I could take you guys to explore this place 😎🔦
We did great bro!!
What if you did mayan temples next and maybe find golden caskets and wooden chariots?
@ExploringWithJosh I want to go with yall one day I'm just starting my channel and I would love to explore with yall
My Grandfather told me stories of during the war civilians would bury all their possessions inside VW Beetles because their shape would prevent collapse. Then at wars end they would dig them back up to collect their belongings.
🤔🤫😙😁
Which war??
@@oliverpetroski4205
😂 and my teacher said their was no such things as stupid questions
@@oziya5117 It just shows how much you know. And since you still have a teacher, I would advice you to educate yourself better. Here is a free one for you: there was more than one war in the world. Now let that sink in your child like brain.
One other thing also: The question wasn't for you!!!
@@oliverpetroski4205 first of all I’m 25, second Adolf made Volkswagen you dip. It says it 4 times in the first 3 mins of the video.
If you had any critical thinking skills you would have been able to put two and two together 🤦🏻♂️
For everybody wondering about these vehicles, their owned by a museum I can’t remember which one and this is just a place of storage for the parts cars and cars not on display
What a brilliant way to store these cars
Maybe a museum from 2050 showing 2000s cars. Tf type of museum display modern art. That’s call a car meet buddy. 😂
I was thinking this is where all the stolen veedubs were stashed.😅😊
Why should someone put the cars there, even if they were from a Museum...for me it makes no sence.
And i wonder how they get there and parked like that!😮
Awesome video learned something new everyday ❤
I found this on The Autopian website.... "The reason for why these VWs are down there seems to have been solved, though, so that’s good. The cars seemed to be owned by the proprietor of the Musée Volkswrecks, in St. Sulpice, Switzerland. These seem to be parts cars or cars that were deemed unfit for public viewing, based on whatever arcane and complex criteria the curator has. " Great exploration video!
But why keep them deep in the mountain. It's just bizarre.

This should be stickied.
I am not a massive fan of watching car videos; however, Josh and Dan seem to make it so much more enjoyable with their enthusiasm and 'young kid' delight!! Besides, the Beatle is my favourite car EVER!! Thanks for sharing your journey!
Glad you like them!
None of these are stolen… i’ve recently been in contact with the owner of the cars! He has a special museum called „Volkswrecks“ for wrecked and special looking, artsy volkswagen from the 50s to the 80s. The cars in there are just leftover part cars or cars he couldn‘t show off in the museum due to not having enough space.
does he have some special driveway and access that the government allows him to store them there?
@@PheonixT-ki8rx sometimes such objects like old mines get in private hands and most owners rent such spaces for a passive income. Looks and sounds weitd, but is more common than you think. ☺️
You say from the 50s and the 80s... why paper work from 2016 and why newer models then? I don't buy it.
@@lilos8226 these are just the spare cars and some newer ones he bought in lots and doesn‘t need / can‘t use for the museum💁🏽♂️ you don‘t have to believe me but thats what the owner told
@@CRAVTBOARDvery true. Even things like old nuclear silos have been bought and used for storage.
There is obviously another entrance to the cave Josh. There’s no way they could have driven those cars up the hill and through the entrance you guys used. Also, the tunnels were made well before 1980.

@@snipes_1138 relevant how?
I’m a Volkswagen master body tech and my love for vw is so big. This is so cool man…
I had the '74 VW Beetle, baby blue, in 1980, it was my first car of my own, I was 14, in New Mexico.
Me 2, love the VDUBs.
Super fun video Josh!
Btw, VW retired the Beetle in 2019 and stopped producing them.
This makes me sad and happy all in one. I do love how excited Dan gets when there is cars around. I also love the scenery of the walk up to the caves. Thank you Josh so much.
I really loved this one! Thanks for getting there and showing it to us. I love when Dan is with you. You two together have the best vibes. Safe continued travels being sent to all of you!
I truly do love it when the small handful of you super good urban/haunted explorers get together and do a calab video of new and genuine places for us y'all find yourselves in a place for great "content"(and I know it's not all about content),that's one of the reasons I consider you bloaks at the top of my fav's 🎯💯% to watch❣️💋
Flame car has a website, so it's only been there since 95' at the earliest. Based on other comments, these are just in storage by the same, haven't been there forever and weren't put thhere by theft etc.
The first VW Beetle with the flames and shortened turret is probably a custom roof to make it look like a hotrod coupe

So cool seeing you explore another cave recently❤Hope you’re enjoying your travels and staying safe as always. Thanks for all your hard work Josh!
Have been waiting for this! Thanks for the awesome content Josh. You deserve way more subs than you have.
The cars seemed to be owned by the proprietor of the Musée Volkswrecks,
in St. Sulpice, Switzerland. These seem to be parts cars or cars that
were deemed unfit for public viewing, based on whatever arcane and complex
criteria the curator has. The museum is described like this:
Museum of old VW air cooled cars. More than 125 vehicles to discover.
Discover the magical world of the Volkswagen dating from 1950 to 1980 in
more than 40 reproductions of sets. A design bar made of car parts and an
alley of 60 beetles where visitors can sit behind the wheel and enjoy
memories and discoveries for young and old.
This museum sounds great but that doesn't explain this massive cave system unless the cave was the original museum. Is it an old bomb shelter being repurposed?
Yes, forget the bugs....guys got his own private bomb shelter/cave system. Get the junk out and pack it to the ceilings with guns, ammo, food, water, seeds, tools etc. Working vehicles only!
@@mountaingirlzstuff4314he said that it used to be a mine
I gave you a thumbs up for the Historical knowledge & footage you shared in the beginning of your video. I learned new things & polished my current knowledge bank from this. I've always wanted to own a 70s bug. Such great past times from acquaintences have been shared that drew me in.
Though an annonimous tip to swiss authorities to either seal the cave off completely or have these cars removed for public auction or possibly returned to any owners living which may be stolen is a feather in your cap concerning any likely legal action against you when Swiss Authorities are made aware of this.
Whereas
Remaining quiet is only thumbing your noses at authorities which proves your worth.
it was a great exploration and nice meeting you guys.😊 Have fun in Europe and stay safe🙏😉
Hey Josh, just wanted to say thanks for showing all these cool places. I stopped watching for awhile but not for any other reason than watching other TH-cams but I had my mom watching you and Cody over a year ago and the other day she brought you up and I was like, damn I forgot all about Josh and Cody. Anyways, glad to see you're still out here grinding. You're a cool dude
ABSOLUTELY BEST GROUP TO WATCH LOVE ALL YOU GUYS ❤
38:49 the click to analyse begin made me have PTDS haha
My first car was a white 1964 vw. That was back in 1976. I was 20 yrs old. Loved my little bug.
Still very common back then, everybody knew someone who had one. Vans too! Often converted for caming/touring.
As a portuguese myself I can confirm those papers are in portuguese and also the car that appears in 32:07 has a portuguese license plate (P)
Also, in Switzerland there are A LOT of portuguese immigrants so it's there's a possibility on why those PT cars are there
That is amazing. Those engines alone are worth so much here in the states.
That used to be one of the 374,142 military bunkers in Switzerland. The government sold some off and different people are using them for different things. One bunker apparently had an art museum.
I was going to comment something similar… Switzerland has thousands of bunkers built into the mountains… it’s how they were able to stay neutral all these years! I saw a documentary about it last year! Fascinating history!
@@Tranquilmomma45 Yes it is.
Yes bunker! Bad research. Old mine… what were they mining? Nazi-Gold. Would have matched the storytelling.
Wassup bro? That's quite a crew you are running with. I was Air Force and stationed in Europe for 5 years. Awesome! Enjoy!
Josh, you did it again! How refreshing! Already sub to all of you.
Cool video Josh. Thanks for showing us.
Josh and Dan are my fav explore duo ☺️🙌🏻
This is soooo cool love your adventures Josh
Owed 5 VW Bugs in early 70s and made them into 3 dunebuggys, ,what fun we had ,,,great little car...also drove one across Canada
Digged it Josh, and after creeping down here in the comments I was able to find out more info. I enjoyed the whole banger of a video . Stay safe and thanks for the great content.
The coolest explore ever.....you, together with Dave and Dan makes it extra special! Wow! I'm going to watch this again for sure!!!😎🤟🙏💞
Really loved this one as a VW lover ❤ awesome video
Is this a current video? Or was this filmed a while ago? Either way, it’s awesome. I just think it’s so cool how the urbex community seems to be so welcoming and close it. If my life wasn’t so crazy and hectic, this is what I would do. But until then, I just watch your videos and enjoy.
He said on twitter he was in the uk and italy past few days. idk what happened to the bus stuff though
Yes it's recent - within the last week 😊
My first car was a 1973 VW beetle and I love that little car this right here breaks my heart to see all these Volkswagens just resting away
Very interesting and yay for car history ! .. I see a VW Beetle and I never think of the going that far back, I think 60's and 70's.
Woah now this is something I am super pumped about I'm a huge car enthusiast I've heard about this before so very cool Josh!!
A private collector isn't going to stash his prize vehicles into a mountain and let them rot
Josh that was an absolute banger of an episode!! I've never seen anything like this before. Very mysterious. Looking forward to some more European episodes with the boys
Hitler did not design it at all
Yes, mentioning that Mr. Porsche actually did it would have been at least as cool!
Hitler's role was more a consultant than designer.
The history of Ferdinand Porsche designing the beetle was mentioned in the history segment of the video
Very cool place! Seems a bit odd to store these inside of a man made cave. Fascinating!
You never split the party in D&D especially in a dungeon! I’m so nervous 🤣🤣
At least they didn't have anyone that knows Fireball. Had that happen, we killed the bad guys....and ourselves...and the prisoners we were trying to free....Which caused the surprise ending to be pushed up. One of us was secretly a vessel to hold back a red dragon. And with that person's death it was released.
@@Meep55412 Fog Cloud would also be bad, they would never find their way out until it ended 😂
Great video Josh !
That was some cool drone work!
This who video was pretty cool.
awesome video dude, you must come to south africa and we'll show you what vw golfs and beetles we've got here
WOW, that is incredible to see all those beetles and golfs in there.
I know this has been said a bunch but I'm glad you are back to doing exploring videos. You look so much happier doing these types of videos.
Came from EWF and AWE - nice to finally find your channel!
Love all your guys' content. Stay safe!
Love your video. ❤️🔥 It is nice to see that you were with all the other explorers, I also follow the explomo guys.
love you and Dan working together, real good chemistry
That's awesome...there are so many collectors out there who would love to see or own some of those cars.
Great job on the flying, Is that a DJI drone?
Wish you guys could come to Sydney Australia one day. Would make my dream come true meeting one of my favourite TH-camrs
Your vids were so peak to watch back in day you apart of my childhood ❤️
Loving this josh. Epic bro best wishes from the uk
Hey Josh, a few things:
• The best eclairs I had were in France when my family stayed at the La Reserve de Beaulieu in Beaulieu-sur-Mer. I would have an eclair every afternoon on the terrace around the pool. 😋
• I would be in such trouble walking into that bakery. I'm such a bread person. 🍞
• One comment said that the owner was using the cars for parts for his car museum. But that doesn't make sense because the high moisture content is eating through the cars. 🤷♀️
How'd ya like Switzerland? 🏔️
😇
Yes, it would be a bit humid in the tunnels, but if they were outdoors in the Swiss Alps with broken windows and cut-away parts they would be in far greater danger of the elements given how much it rains and snows in that part of Europe.
There's a few now said there not used by the museum & do just use them for parts,
DUUUUDE!!! Y'all are Karazzyy!! This was is an awesome, awesome episode!
👏🏼
I love how Dan gets so excited about his cars ❤
Preserving history Josh 😊
Awesome explorer! The Goonies!😂🩵💙😎👍😉
I´m from Slovakia and i didn´t know about this so thank you. I love your videos
Great explore, but for sure is a strange place to store cars, esp. one brand.
If it was a chop shop, you'd think it would be full of Volvos, Saabs, other cars made there or popular in Sweden, just a thought!
I agree with someone else, the way you came in is not how these cars got there as the ceiling looks too low. Great video!
Very cool spot, thank you for sharing! Thumbs up and greeting from Canada!
Yes this is cool, real cool! Loved your vid, Thanks!
I started watching all tour videos drom the start and i love it❤🎉
Amazing video! I love antique cars very old cars ❤
Wow another great video !
Josh you are amazing love your videos and I share your video with my husband.
ICONIC! I was about to say that here in Portugal I usually see at least 1 running Volkswagen beetle once a week and still many Golf cars and y'all mentioned at 28:30 papers under a portuguese name, here the Volkswagen beetles are now super expensive since they are classic cars, but I have no clue why they are over there in such a place. Awesome video!
32:07 portuguese licence plate (only spotted that one, but since there was also portuguese documents "participação de sinistro" maybe there's more)
Cool cave and cars thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing great content 🎉🎉🎉
I like that one black one where the drone being flowed though the cars this is so cool dan was able to do that ive watch all three videos of guys they were different and cool to watch..
Good to see you again Josh. +❤great video
@22:43 on the left there's a CD in the car door,
They could have taken that to have a look at it.
Maybe they could have got some useful info of it.
Very cool. Here in Idaho, used bugs are super expensive.
Apocalyptic vibes…definitely a sweet find Josh! ✨ Awesome video!
Interesting finds Josh X 🔥🔥🔥
hey josh n dan you must have been spaced out seeing all these volkswagens unbelievable explore guys i thought the volkswagen were pretty cool buggies to get around in awsome share guys cheers.
My boyfriend has a 1974 Volkswagen super beetle and just seeing this too is just so amazing to us! Now he wants to go here and see all these beetles himself now haha
it breaks my heart seeing so many beautiful cars just abandoned in a old mine😭
I own a B
VW it's awesome to know when and how it came to be!
Love your videos. Been watch you since you started!
So proud of you Josh you've come a long way!
ferdinand built a lot of thing for ww2 and the German people An important contributor to the German war effort during World War II, Porsche was involved in the production of advanced tanks such as the VK 45.01 (P), the Elefant (initially called "Ferdinand") self-propelled gun, and the Panzer VIII Maus super-heavy tank, as well as other weapon systems, including the V-1 flying ...
Brilliant episode
I love you video Josh keep up the good work
So dope 😊 ty Josh
Josh what an amazing place!!!
Thanks for the car history lesson!
Very cool find!
🎉Thank you Josh, amazing!🎉
So cool!
This is literally amazing wow 😳👏💯 great one dudes for sure ❤
I noticed something weird. The placement of the newest models are between a bunch of older ones. Which leads me to believe those cars were put there about roughly 20 years ago
Brilliant , your content is worthy of Full viewing, 🙂 Amazing memories for you All. God Bless.
Thanks awesome video that alots of cars
Great video! :)
You was one of my fav TH-camrs back when yt was peak
