Using Neverwinter Nights as a Dungeons and Dragons Virtual Tabletop- Part 2: Dressing the Set

  • I realize that I specifically said I didn't want to do tutorial videos, but this is ANOTHER exception to the rule.
This is part 2 in a 4-part series. If you're serious about using the Aurora toolset to mod, start with Part 1: Basic Mapping:
    • Star Wars The Roleplay...
Watch the video, then make a few maps of your own using what you've learned. Then, and only then, come on back and watch part 2.
There are some sound issues with the in-game walkthrough. I'll try to do better next time. If you want to skip that section, it ends at 10:40.
Obviously, if you make your starting area an inn, following along will be easier. But DON'T let me crimp your imagination. Use whatever tilesets and settings you'd like. The basic principles will still be the same!
This video is stupidly long (two hours), and it's PACKED with information, so I would recommend watching it in bits and pieces. Follow along in your own toolset. Apply each lesson, in turn, to your own maps. Then move on to the next concept. If a concept doesn't apply to you, ignore it and move on. Once you become comfortable in the toolset it will become easy to come back and learn any lessons you may have skipped.
You will need the following downloads to continue using this system...
    Generic Henchman Conversation (mhk_hench.erf)
    drive.google.c...
Download the conversation and add it to your module using the Import function in the toolset.
Lilac Soul's Neverwinter Nights Script Generator (LSTK Version by The Krit):
    neverwintervau...
This is a simple, standalone program that will help you create remarkably sophisticated scripts for NWN. We'll show you how to create them and hook them into conversations. Take some time to look at the placables and creatures on your map. Look at the script tags to see the available script hooks attached to the objects in the game and you'll begin to get some idea of how amazingly powerful these simple scripts can be! There are also script hooks attached to the module and area properties!!!
DMFI 101: So You Want to be a DM
    neverwintervau...
Just download it and add it to your Mod folder. This module will teach you everything you need to know in order to log into your map and act as a DM. If you want to use your map with actual players, this is your key. Using the DM client, you can run an adventure using even the most basic maps!

Great game. Don't bother with the OC. If you want to jump right in start with Shadows of Undrentide. The game doesn't really shine until you start making custom content or playing fan made modules, though. There are THOUSANDS to choose from. Here are just a few:

Working on it. Life has gotten weird, but I have the intro and outro filmed. Trying to shave it down to an hour, but SOOO much editing!!!

Found it! hmm, I want it outside the forest in grasslands...But, now I know where it is. Thanks!! Do you still use this with your DnD groups?

Nope. I mostly DM PnP these days. But I definitely would if there were still players around. I still brag about my Hall of Fame badge from back in the day, on the old Neverwinter Connections website.
My old online handle was UrKnightErrant.
If you want more models, including a selection of tents, large and small, install the CEP. The Community Expansion Pack includes hundreds of new models, monsters, and much MUCH more.
Some of the new creature model skins were done by yours, truly. Last I checked they were still using my T-Rex skin, my giant lizard skin, giant frogs, shriekers, nagas, giant jellyfish, etc. Oh... And I'm pretty sure they are still using my Bahamut skin.
Another amazing source of content, including all of the above and some AMAZING tutorials, is the Neverwinter Vault.
Finally... Check out the Neverwinter Lexicon. It also has some amazing tutorials, but more importantly, it has ALL the syntax you will EVER need to write and modify scripts. Constants... Functions... Events... Data types... EVERYTHING.

Right around 9:19. Also. Did you do more videos? I am having trouble with the UDP firewall access.

@RobyDorsett Yep. That's a forest tileset group. Probably called "Large Tent 2x2" or something like that.

can this be done using neverwinter nights 2?

    • @grumpyoldgrognard9561
      @grumpyoldgrognard9561  หลายเดือนก่อน

@smokegasplaynintendo5767 YES! This and MUCH more!
      But...
The process of map building in the electron engine is much more time consuming.
The scripting language is the same, but the engine gives up a lot of user-friendliness for power.
The tradeoff isn't practical for a casual hobbiest like myself, but it is an amazing tool.

Which version of the editor look like the best to you? NWN1 or 2's? :/

    • @grumpyoldgrognard9561
      @grumpyoldgrognard9561  ปีที่แล้ว +1

That depends on how you define "better." The Electron engine (nwn2) is much more powerful, but Aurora is much easier to use and mod for. It also includes mounts as an integrated vanilla feature. I prefer Aurora, but this forces you to do your outdoor maps with tilesets. The height map feature avaliable in Electron is much more flexible.

@@grumpyoldgrognard9561 In terms of Vanilla features, based on your comment, Aurora seems more developed. I've seen it has more community mods too. ;/
