Hello Melissa, I wanted you to advice me on how to layer glycolic acid, alpha arbutin and azelaic acid together or if I should even use the three together. Thank you
You may be able to use all three of them in the same routine, but this also depends on your skin's tolerance. Therefore, in the beginning, I recommend using Glycolic Acid and Azelaic Acid in separate routines. If your skin tolerates them well, you may then be able to use them together. Alpha Arbutin can be used in conjunction with both of them. See here: th-cam.com/video/NE3j3LPcaGE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KIqNQ4Q-1WwRVFli and th-cam.com/video/GoeJv8Slsmg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=L9kvj6XMNVDqFhL1

Hey! :) Where did you get the Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate? That one hasn’t been available for years... In the beginning, I recommend using Granactive Retinoid and Azelaic Acid in separate routines to see how your skin reacts. After that, you may be able to use them in the same routine.

Hi Melissa! I bought Alpha Arbutin serum and the Azeliac Acid and want to put these two in my skin care routine. In the morning i only use the squalane cleanser, the hyaluronic acid serum and the moisturizer (all from TO). In the evening i use the glycolic acid toner 2 times a week, and the salycic acid mask one time a week and the days i'm not using this i only apply moisturizer after cleansing. What do you recommend to use these two new products correctly? :) Love your video's!
Hey Stephanie! :) You can use both Alpha Arbutin and Azelaic Acid in the AM or PM :) When using it in the AM, it would look like this: - Cleanse - Hyaluronic Acid - Alpha Arbutin - (Optional) Moisturiser - Azelaic Acid - SPF Or when using it in the PM, when not using Glycolic Acid or the SA Mask: - Cleanse - Alpha Arbutin - (Optional) Moisturiser - Azelaic Acid Hope this helps :)

Hi melissa, your videos are amazing! Im wondering if this is a suitable skincare routine, i recently just bought the azelaic acid and ive seen different routines on when to put it. 1. Toner 2. Niacinamide (the ordinary) 3. Moisturizer/Lotion 4. Azelaic acid (the ordinary) dont know if you still respond to comments in your old videos but u hope you do HAHAH i love your videos keep it up!
Generally, it can happen with every new active ingredient; however, from my experience, it is very individual and does not happen to anyone. So yes, you can experience purging.
Thank you for the video. I am still confused and need a bit more clarification. I have melasma and my routine is like this: Morning: cleansing, toner, vitamin C serum, alpha arbutin, azelaic acid, moisturizer and spf Evening: cleansing, toner, vitamin C serum, alpha arbutin, azelaic acid and moisturizer Can i use it like this or is it too much? Should i take azelaic acid away from AM? And is the order correct? TIA
Hey! 😊 What toner do you use? Overall, the setup of your routine looks good and can work. However, it may not be potent enough for your melasma, as you would usually use Hydroquinone or do other sessions by a dermatologist.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet hi. I used the Hada labo premium essence lotion as my toner. The azelaic acid I used is Skinoren which is given by a skin expert. Is it good enough?
@@toddtb934 Okay. That Azelaic Acid gel-cream contains 20%, right? In that case, you may want to use it once per day every other day, or already daily, depending on your skin tolerance, and then adjust the frequency over time.
Those products usually do not cause any issues. So you can use them daily. Your skin may need to adjust to the products. So if you get breakouts, you can stop using them for a few days and start again to give your skin enough time.
Hey can u tell what would be better to use to remove the acne marks on my skin alpha arbutin or azelaic acid? I have combination acne prone skin and currently my AM routine is :- Cleanser (COSRX) Toner (BOJ GINSENG) NIACINAMIDE (THE ORDINARY) MOISTURIZER SUNSCREEN I wanted to include a serum which would help remove the reddish acne marks on my skin and hyperpigmentation around my mouth but I'm not sure which one to include. So can u pls tell me?
Well, they will fade on their own. There's no need to take specific action. However, I feel like azelaic acid would do a better job, considering how our skin works. I would suggest using it like this: Cleanser (COSRX) Toner (BOJ Ginseng) Niacinamide (The Ordinary) or azelaic acid Sunscreen
Hello! I really like your videos! It is short yet informative! I want to ask you what is your favourite cleanser? And what would you recommend for acne prone skin?
Thank you!🥰 There are a few that I love so far..! But there are so many cleansers on the market🙈 The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser, La Roche Posay Lipikar Shower Gel Cleanser (Face and Body), La Roche Posay Effaclar Micro-Peeling Cleanser, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Cleanser, Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar, Paula' Choice (Hydrating Gel-to-Cream Cleanser and Pore Normalizing Cleanser, there are so many more...but those are the ones that I like a lot!😊
Hi! I have: Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I have a lot of dark spots. Which one should I put first?! Thankyouuu💕
Hey :) Have a look at this vide...How to Create a Skincare Routine With The Ordinary Products - A Beginners Guide: th-cam.com/video/png_aAg5B0A/w-d-xo.html This guide should help you to put them in the right order :)
@@teuraemon7329 If you want to look into an exfoliant, it would be a BHA (Salicylic Acid). However, if you want something hydrating without exfoliation, have a look at Thayers Toners or Paula's Choice! :)
I've recently purchased mandelic acid and want to know if my routine is okay or too harsh. I start by cleansing, tone, mandelic acid then use azelic suspension then moisturize.
Hello Ma'am, Can we apply Salicylic acid, niacinamide, alpha arbutin and azelaic acid together...? I have active acne, acne marks and some milia. So does all those products will help with my acne..???
You can, but it's probably not layering well. So my advice would be to create 2 routines. AM: Cleanser (suitable for your skin type!) Alpha Arbutin Azelaic Acid Suspensionion (SPF if exposed to the sun! Make sure to find one suitable for acne-prone skin that feels comfortable when using it. It is vital since it can help fade the dark spots much faster! If you stay mainly inside or aren't really exposed to direct sunlight, it does not matter much) PM: Cleanser (suitable for your skin type!) Salicylic Acid Niaicnamide It will help, yes. But to what extent depends on your acne. If it is severe, you likely need something that is much stronger, but since you already have the products, my recommendation would be to try it first for several weeks to see how effective it will be, and of course, constantly adjust it based on your needs.
I recommend using Lactic Acid and Azelaic Acid in separate routines. You can use them on the same day or on different days. This depends on your skin tolerance and preference. For example: AM: Cleanser Caffeine Solution Alpha Arbutin (Optional) Moisturizer Azelaic Acid SPF PM: Cleanser Lactic Acid Caffeine Solution Alpha Arbutin (Optional) Moisturizer How often you can use Lactic Acid depends on your skin tolerance. Start with 2-3 times per week and adjust it over time. If you want to support my work and the help that I offer, you can do this here: www.paypal.com/paypalme/vandijkmelissa Thank you!❤️

Hey! 😊 Correct, you do not need to use sunscreen when staying at home. However, if you sit in front of a window for a long time and get direct sunlight or if you're outdoors, I recommend using sunscreen.

Lotions & Creams & suspensions The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin = Water-Based Serum Azelaic Acid Suspension = Suspension Edit: if you have a serum you apply from the thinnest to the thickest, I assume that you Azelaic Acid serum = Anhydrous Solution

For blackhead extraction, topical products usually aren't very effective. For other skin issues, the effectiveness of treatments depends on the cause of the pigmentation and whether it's close to the skin's surface. However, a combination of Alpha Arbutin and Azelaic Acid is often the right approach! You can still use COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence for hydration before applying these products. Here's the routine: Clean your face. Pat it dry. Apply Snail Mucin. Apply Alpha Arbutin. Apply Azelaic Acid. Use SPF during daytime.

The Ordinary has no acne treatments. But they do have a lot of products that can help with dark spots. For acne treatment, I recommend using a Benzoyl Peroxide face wash. (CeraVe, Differin or Panoxyl) You can use The Ordinary Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% or even a retinol 0,2 or 0,5% for dark spots. But the retinol formulations tend to be a bit oily on the skin, so I recommend using Paula's Choice Retinol instead. :)

You can use both Alpha Arbutin and Azelaic Acid in the AM or PM :)
When using it in the AM, it would look like this:
- Cleanse
- Hyaluronic Acid
- Alpha Arbutin
- (Optional) Moisturiser
- Azelaic Acid
- SPF
Or when using it in the PM, when not using Glycolic Acid or the SA Mask:
- Cleanse
- Alpha Arbutin
- (Optional) Moisturiser
- Azelaic Acid
Hope this helps :)

hi thank you so much for the video!! with both of these products, will you experience purging the first few weeks or no?
Generally, it can happen with every new active ingredient; however, from my experience, it is very individual and does not happen to anyone. So yes, you can experience purging.

Evening: cleansing, toner, vitamin C serum, alpha arbutin, azelaic acid and moisturizer

And is the order correct?

What toner do you use?
Hi there! Is it safe to start using every night or should you start off only using it once a week and slowly increase to daily?
Those products usually do not cause any issues. So you can use them daily. Your skin may need to adjust to the products. So if you get breakouts, you can stop using them for a few days and start again to give your skin enough time.

Hey can u tell what would be better to use to remove the acne marks on my skin alpha arbutin or azelaic acid?
I have combination acne prone skin and currently my AM routine is :-
Cleanser (COSRX)
Toner (BOJ GINSENG)
NIACINAMIDE (THE ORDINARY)
MOISTURIZER
SUNSCREEN
I wanted to include a serum which would help remove the reddish acne marks on my skin and hyperpigmentation around my mouth but I'm not sure which one to include. So can u pls tell me?
Well, they will fade on their own. There's no need to take specific action. However, I feel like azelaic acid would do a better job, considering how our skin works.
I would suggest using it like this:
Cleanser (COSRX)
Toner (BOJ Ginseng)
Niacinamide (The Ordinary) or azelaic acid
Sunscreen

You have already listed the products in the right order :)
Hi. I am using lactic acid first, alpha arbutin and then Alezic acid suspension. Is the right order?
Yes, that's correct 🙂
Hello Ma'am,
Can we apply Salicylic acid, niacinamide, alpha arbutin and azelaic acid together...?
I have active acne, acne marks and some milia. So does all those products will help with my acne..???
You can, but it's probably not layering well. So my advice would be to create 2 routines.
AM:
Cleanser (suitable for your skin type!)
Alpha Arbutin
Azelaic Acid Suspensionion
(SPF if exposed to the sun! Make sure to find one suitable for acne-prone skin that feels comfortable when using it. It is vital since it can help fade the dark spots much faster! If you stay mainly inside or aren't really exposed to direct sunlight, it does not matter much)
PM:
Cleanser (suitable for your skin type!)
Salicylic Acid
Niaicnamide
It will help, yes. But to what extent depends on your acne. If it is severe, you likely need something that is much stronger, but since you already have the products, my recommendation would be to try it first for several weeks to see how effective it will be, and of course, constantly adjust it based on your needs.
Thank you so much...
Hi! Can I mix alpha arbutin + azelaic acid + lactic acid?
I recommend using Lactic Acid and Azelaic Acid in separate routines. You can use them on the same day or on different days. This depends on your skin tolerance and preference.
For example:
AM:
Cleanser
Caffeine Solution
Alpha Arbutin
(Optional) Moisturizer
Azelaic Acid
SPF
PM:
Cleanser
Lactic Acid
Caffeine Solution
Alpha Arbutin
(Optional) Moisturizer
How often you can use Lactic Acid depends on your skin tolerance. Start with 2-3 times per week and adjust it over time.

I know you said not to mix the ordinary aha + ba at once. But did you mean like in the same morning or night time routine?
Are you referring to the AHA+BHA masque or what products do you have? And which toner do you want to use?
But I also have this guide explaining everything in detail:
The Ordinary For Beginners:
th-cam.com/video/diaLVk_EsI4/w-d-xo.html
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet yes the ordinary aha+bha peeling solution. I use the good molecules Niacinimide brightening toner
@@curlymami949 You can only use the peel once or twice a week.
morning
cleanser
alpha arbutin
azelaic acid
spf
night (once or max twice a week, or even less often!)
regular cleanser (without exfoliating acids)
let the skin dry for at least 5-10minutes
ordinary aha + bha peel
moisturizer
Nights when not using the peel
clean face
toner
hyaluronic acid
discoloration serum
(optional) moisturizer I think that is not needed the since the other products contain so many hydrating ingredients.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you so much!
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet hyaluronic acid cannot be used after using the peel, then following up with moisturizer? I also started double cleansing with the dermalogica microexfoliant if that helps
is this a good face routine? i have pie btw
i use the hydration cerave cleanse, daily moisturizer by cerave, alpha arburtin and azeliac acid all in that order
Well, the correct order for this would be:
Cleanser
Alpha Arbutin
Azelaic Acid
Moisturizer
However, that may only work well for normal to dry skin. If you have oily skin, the lotion is not suitable, and I suggest getting a light gel, such as Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel or G&G Hydration Station.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank youu, i’ll make that change and yes i don’t have oily skin just normal to dry skin. is there anything else i should add to my skin routine?
@@danielp.2248 well what are your skin concerns? 🤔
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet well now that i look at it my skin doesn’t look oily and idk i feel like everyday it’s something new sometimes i wake up with white pimples, my skin looks relaxed most of the time then it might look super red
@@danielp.2248 So, why do you want to use Alpha Arbutin?
Also is azelaic acid exfoliating seeing as it’s also an acid does it exfoliate similar to other acids?
No. Paula's Choice has an article about it. See here:
www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice/skincare-advice/ingredient-spotlight/azelaic-acid-for-skin.html
Hey Melissa, i was wondering if i can use my benzoyl peroxide cleanser, alpha arbutin and azelaic acid together in one routine ( i used to have acne). I use the benzoyl only at night time. I want to fade my acne scars on my cheeks. (I have a combination skin more oily) Sorry for my bad English it’s not my first language.
Can i use the ordinary niacinamide 10 + zinc 1, alpha arbutin and azelaic acid togheter in the morning? (I use niacinamide only in the mornings in my routine atm)
Hey! :)
Yes, that's fine! :)
Hii! So there are 2 products wich I’d like to start including in my routine azaleic acid and alpha Arbutin do you think I should start using them both into my routine straight away together or I should start with one product and wait for my skin to get used to it before I introduce the other product into my routine? (I also already use glycolic acid and niacinamide in my routine)
Generally, they are very tolerated, but if you can, it is always best to introduce one after another into your routine. Because if you do not tolerate a product well, you know already which one it is ;)
Can i also add niacinamide?
Azelaic acid
Alpha arbutin
Niacinamide
Is that okay???
Yes but not in this order.
AM:
Cleanser
Alpha arbutin
Niacinamide
Azelaic acid
(SPF)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you again❤️❤️❤️
Would you then use niacinamide jsut in the morning?
Alpha arbutin with azealic acid or niatinamide with azealic acid?..which one is best for skin lightening
What kind of hyperpigmentation do you have?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet i have darker skin tone than my full body..i guess my melanin causing it.no other dark spot on face
Hm...have a look at an exfoliant (like an AHA) or gentle scrub. Also, wearing sunscreen during the day is important.
Which retinols do you recommend?
What's your skin type? :)
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet normal to dry I’d say because BP has made it dry I guess. I wanted to buy the CeraVe resurfacing retinol mainly because of my hyperpigmentation/PIE but it’s not available in Sweden. I thought it would be good to start because it’s my first time to try a retinol. (I bought alpha Arbutin and Azelaic acid also today) so I would appreciate it if you could share with me some other alternatives for a retinol
Do you think retinol or vitamin c is better btw ?
@@annam.8208 There are a few good ones...
Paula's Choice 0,3% Retinol Treatment
The Ordinary 0,2% Retinol in Squalane
Geek & Gorgeous 0,05% Retinal
La Roche Posay 0,3% Retinol serum or their Cream
@@annam.8208 Hmm...difficult to say because it also depends on what your skin needs and likes the most.

If my moisturizer feels heavier than the Azelaic acid can I put on the Azelaic acid before the moisturizer then the sunscreen?
yes, that's how you should do it. 😃

am i able to apply a vitamin c product for the morning? and a retinol for night? if so, what step would those two products take place in for the routine?
What Vitamin C do you have?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet i currently do not have a specific one i use. but i am open to any recommendations.
@@alyssalopez9063 Well according to studies a serum would be the best option. I like the one from Paula's Choice (Vitamin C 15 Booster) and the Vichy Liftactive.
So it could look like this:
AM:
Cleanser
Vitamin C Serum
Alpha Arbutin
Sunscreen
PM 1 (2-3 times a week, when new to it):
Cleanser
The Ordinary 0,2% Retinol
Azelaic Acid Suspension
PM 2 (when not using the retinol)
Cleanser
Alpha Arbutin
Azelaic Acid Suspension

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet oh wow! thank you so much! this is so helpful😭 i will definitely try this, i've been trying to cure these dark spots i have all over my face for so long 😭
@@alyssalopez9063 They are tough to battle. I needed about three months to fade some stubborn spots, and one is still visible 😞 I recently upgraded to a 20% Azelaic Acid Cream. You can only get in the pharmacy (at least in my country), so that could also be an option for you. But first, try it with the products you have.
If that is not working, you need to see a dermatologist to get suitable treatment. But you can achieve great results with topical products 🙃
Can you use retinol with this?
Yes. Use it after Alpha Arbutin but before Azelaic Acid.
Hello, is it oke to use cleanser with salicylic acid ingredient with azelaic acid
Yes, it is okay. You can also use a leave-on exfoliant with Azelaic Acid, just as I said in the video.
