    notes
    1. consistency - best outcome when using daily
    2. dosing best option is using half the dose every other day for at least 2 weeks
*at the beginning you can feel stinging and its normal, it should decrease in intensity over time as it correlates with better skin barrier function
*in the first stage you can have blemishes in the blemish prone zones because cleansing of skin begins, if it bothers you, you can do application of azelaic acid every other day or every third day, do not stop!!!!! keep going it will be better
    3. use in the evening, especially in the beginning, in isolation without layering other active ingredients
DO NOT COMBINE WITH BENZYL PEROXIDE, or AHA AT ONE TIME - > irritation (you can use them separately, at different time of day though)
    4. cell turnover should be fast enough, there is no need to use exfoliants

@@mehh1h I recently bumped up to 0.05% Tretinoin so I cut out all the other ingredients & am getting the same great results. I will add the Azelaic Acid back eventually but the Niacinamide kind of irritates my skin. A couple important things-I don’t wash my face in the morning, I use Aloe Vera Water (Trader Joe’s) on a cotton ball to cleanse. And I’m religious about my mineral sunscreen spf 50. Mineral sunscreen is key because it’s gentler, plus the zinc oxide is great for your skin barrier. It was hard for me to use Tretinoin cuz it’s so hardcore on my skin. So I used Differin (which is also a retinoid but not as strong) for a few months first, then SLOWLY worked up to Tretinoin. It’s been 6 months and I’m just now starting to be able to tolerate using it daily. If you use it on your arms and/or chest, be prepared that synthetic fabrics might give you a rash. I have to wear cotton only. I had decided to spend my time & energy on skincare rather than makeup & it’s great because I don’t have to wear foundation anymore! Don’t be sucked into thinking you have to spend a lot of money on skincare-i only use Rx Tretinoin and The Ordinary. Good luck! Oh! And take progress pictures!! Good luck!
(By the way I found out that I had been misdiagnosed with vitiligo-they are hypopigmented scars)

I started using azelaic acid when I was hospitalized for 3 weeks in 2020 for pregnancy complications. It was pretty boring at times and I found it unusually easy to follow a skincare routine. I used The Ordinary’s azelaic acid and lactic acid formulations and I saw a difference in as little as one week. I did use them in conjunction with one another, but it didn’t seem to cause me any problems. Idk if I just got lucky or if it the lactic acid was just a gentle enough AHA that made it more tolerable. I’ve never experienced such a noticeable improvement in my overall skin appearance as I did during that time. (After my baby was born however, the routine unfortunately went into the toilet -figuratively speaking. 😂)

I'm very naughty I started using it only in the day. Now the actives I use in order are Hyaluronic acid, niacinamide serum, azelaic acid, then my retin a. I seal it all with a cerimide cream. My skin though is flawless now. I worked my way up to 20% by using 10% then 12% AA. Now the 20% i will start with only using it on the a.m. Till I know my skin is ready for 2x's a day. I don't know if I made a mistake as I use a lot of actives at night. I think my order and usage is correct as I did it all slow. Love this channel BTW 😊

Curious if you use vitamin C in the morning ever? I was advised to use Vit C in am only but that’s when I use my 15% rx azelaic acid gel. I read you could use together but this video says not to do so in the beginning, but instead to use at different times of day (except given Vit C is am only and this doctor said to use Azelaic Acid daily, and not after Tretinoin at night at first, I’m confused about when exactly I can apply athletic acid if I’m using vitamin C every morning. You may not even use the product but I thought maybe you or the doctor might see this and reply. I use my .25 Tretinoin at night twice a week to start, then will try to build up one more night a week as tolerated. I’ve seen some you tubers use A. Acid at night after applying Tretinoin but i think they’ve been using it for quite a while. As a newbie, I’m trying to follow my doc’s advice and hoping it will help me avoid any serious reactions that cause me to have to backtrack on my Tretinoin “journey.”

Ok so I have a LOT of issues. In the evenings I do Tranexamic acid, retinol and then azelaic acid. I added them in one at a time with a couple of weeks per item. My skin has never looked better. Not irritated at all. But I have used lower percentages with nicer formulas. My pigmentation has improved so much, I'm thrilled. I layer thinnest to thickest formula. I feel like the real changes start happening when I added the azelaic acid. My melasma just started to come off in big patches (nearly my whole face was brown). The new skin underneath is not irritated either. I started a skin care routine only 3 months ago (at 58) so I'm pretty happy with the way things are going.

Layering is so perplexing. At night I tend to cleanse, red light therapy, tone, Azelaic Acid, moisturise and then Tretinoin. Sometimes I might add in Hyaluronic Acid cream. But what is correct? I had used azelaic acid (15%) with niacinamide (10%) for 15 days, everyday, in my evening routine. When It caused irritation, I used it for 4 days a week with niacinamide as usual. The irritation persisted, and after one month, I was forced to stop everything because my skin barrier was badly damaged. Things to note, I did moisturise religiously on every occasion without fail, and I have sensitive acne prone skin. It has been almost 20 days since I stopped using it, my skin barrier has healed, but the acne has remained as is. With new breakouts everyday, and the PIH, everything is on a vicious loop, yet again. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thank you, Doctor. Credible content, as always.

On a lighter note, I feel so jealous of people with resilient skin: they can use multiple potent actives without any palpable repercussions. 😭

I just bought a benzoyl peroxide cleanser and in fact I see that azelaic acid is better.Because I have CC (closed comedones) and I wanted to include an active ingredient in my skin care even though I knew it's difficult😭. Now should I switch it with azelaic acid or not. Btw I have combination skin.

I use TO azelaic acid (2.5 weeks already) with sensitive combo skinand never had the stinging, it dries down SO fast and no pilling! I started every night right away. Im not using anything else for the moment and it helped with oily and red skin SO much

Same! I'm extremely eczema prone , especially around my eyes. I still suffer from hormonal acne in my 30s with no relief because almost every acne treatment causes an eczema flare.
I had finally gotten my acne somewhat under control, but the red marks make me so self conscious. i bought TO azelaic acid and was shocked it didn't make my skin red / slightly burning - for reference, I bought the $20 aveeno "redness calming" balm and it burned TF out of my skin, that's how sensitive it is.

@@frenchyfrenchie you should stop using it. Azelaic acid, especially in higher concentrations (15% and 20%) can dry out your skin. Been there, I stopped using it. Focused on repairing my skin. You can use it again after your skin barrier has recovered. Do remember to use a low percentage at when going back to using azelaic acid, maybe 5% or 10% and add it slowly.

I had been actually using REVOX Salicylic acid and REVOX AA together at night unfortunately it causes breakouts, i thought it was normal so i continue it for 5days however when i noticed it gotten worse everyday i decided to stop using AA then stick to my REVOX NIACINAMIDE AND SALICYLIC ACID fortunately pimples stop popping out on my face as well as the remaining pimples started dying until it fully healed, I guess my skin couldn't tolerate both active acid

Try and introduce one active at a time and only introduce a new one when your skin is tolerant, and make sure you've got a good barrier repair cream to help your skin.

And i feel how is azelaic acid recommended to reduce redness nd rosacea if applying it causes more redness ?????

  • @mamapolarbear8567

I have a very serious question. When doing my nightly routine, I do all of my moisturizers first and then I put on azelaic acid and then I put on tretinoin and then I let it sit and dry and then I put on another moisturizer on top. But tonight I accidentally put a little bit of my eczema cream, which is Triamcinolone Acetonide in the corners of my lips out of habit because I have eczema there, but then a few minutes later, I feel a little bit of burning, but that’s normal because of the Asake acid but then I look in the mirror and the corners of my mouth are now very light, and when I try to wipe it off, it hasn’t gone away. right now i’ve just wiped it off as best as I can and put on a little bit of lotion in the corners and I’m just praying that it goes away by morning but if it doesn’t do you know what why that happened or what I should do about it?

The down side is my skin feels so dry that I need to change my skincare from combination oily to dry skin type. Also I layer alot of ceramide cream, I think that's why I can survive haha.
