    By the way, thank you for the tip on using a makeup brush! I found one at my 99 Cents Store, and it made application so much easier. I just put some of the AHA BHA solution in hand, dipped the makeup brush into it, and applied it to my face. Genius!! I wouldn't have thought to do that. Your videos are the best!! I'm really learning how to use The Ordinary products in a way that works for my skin. THANK YOU!!

    Was about to sleep but im glad youtube popped up it’s notification about this vid 😆 i have oily combination skin and been eyeing the ordinary aha bha solution for months but am too scared to try since I never tried chemical exfoliator before. Wanted to try lactic acid 5% by the ordinary (since they say it’s a milder form) first so I can build my skin’s tolerance but im So glad i found your tip like leaving the aha bha solution for first 3 min to slowly build tolerance. Thank you!!!

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Out of all the Ordinary Acids, Mandelic Acid is the gentlest as it penetrates slower into the skin and then Lactic Acid 5% would be the second mildest...or using a BHA leave-on exfoliant which is great if you are suffering from blemishes, have sensitive-oil skin😊
      But yeah, you can start using the peeling solution for only a few minutes at first before leaving it on the skin for those full 10min so that your skin has time to adjust😊
      Glad that I could help😊

    My mistake was not watching this one first, where you talk about not using a cleanser beforehand that contains certain acids. 😳(I used the pur see no more cleanser.) Luckily, no irratation was caused and I used the ordinary moisturizer at the end. Hopefully this won't damage my skin or anything. Thank you so much for these videos! Now I know to watch them all beforehand and not while I'm actually just applying the product. Lol

      Hey, well no that's why I said high% of acids. Most cleansers have very little to none acids in their (even if they say so). It's mostly marketing. But there are some powerful cleansers on the market that include 2-12% of acids. They may be very irritating. ;)

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since the area is sensitive and therefore it may sting or burn, especially if you plan on using it more often, it tends to irritate the skin quickly. If you only use the solution occasionally, you can do it, of course.
      Also, many young people are using it, they may not need it in the first place, so it tends to irritate it even more.

It really helped answer my questions and it really made me understand the "science" behind these acids because I admit I wasn't well-versed about these acids. • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just keep in mind that these serums are not acne treatments; many people promote it that way, but they can help to some extent since BHA can unclog the pores, and because the solution is making it acidic, the bacteria may have a hard time. But if you are looking for acne treatments, look for Benzoyl Peroxide cleansers or Retinoids (adapalene)

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

      It's only during the same routine. It is because your skin may become sensitive or the pH is too low, and therefore it can burn or sting on the skin, and some products can have a chemical reaction so that they will be less effective.

I'm planning to buy this product for months now, but afraid that it would clash with my favorite aloe vera gel that I used every night before sleep, because the gel (from Nature Republic) has a small percent of alcohol in it. I have premature menopause (I lost both my ovaries due to cysts in 2013) and lately my skin started to look dull and wrinkly due to stress from taking care of my very ill and disabled parents. The only products that always suits me are rosehip oil and aloe vera gel (I put it in the fridge), and I don't want to stop using them. I have sensitive skin. The first time I tried it, I used it for 3 minutes. It burned & was itchy, but after I washed it off, my skin was totally fine. It didn't even turn it pink. I was thinking of going up 1 minute each week until I hit 10 minutes. What do you think? Will my skin be okay? I did a test patch on my inner arm for 10 minutes & felt nothing. I guess the skin on my face is way more sensitive.

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The patch test on your arm is mainly there to protect you against any severe side effects, but that does not mean that it can not burn or sting on other areas of your face. Your nerf endings may be more sensitive, and the skin is generally thinner. You can try to use it again; however, if you are sensitive to glycolic acid/lactic acid (which is in there), you may not tolerate it at all. You need to test it, but I wouldn't use it again when it's burning and or stinging.

      Hey😊
      AM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Hyaluronic Acid
      - Niacinamide
      - Natural Moisturizing Factors
      - SPF
      PM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid (one of them and use it 1-3 times per week)
      - Hyaluronic Acid
      - Natural Moisturizing Factors
      PM Routine (1-2 times per week):
      - Cleanse
      - Peeling Solution
      - Hyaluronic Acid
      - Natural Moisturizing Factors
      Please do not use the Peeling Solution in the same when using either Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid. Also, do not use Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid in the same routine.
      The general rule of thumb for order of application is:
      1. Water-based serums
      2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations
      3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions
      Step 1: Cleanse
      Step 2: Toner
      Step 3: Exfoliant
      Step 4: Serum(s)
      Step 5: Moisturiser
      Step 6: SPF (AM)
      Important:
      If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first).
      It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration.
      About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
      Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing."
      Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!
      With any new formulation, some sensitivity or initial redness can be normal. Initial redness upon application is not a cause for concern if it goes away after a few moments. ❤
      Niacinamide can be used in conjunction with retinoids sunscreens, hydroxy acids, and other ingredients without concern for cross-reactivity.
      Please note that with any active ingredient that affects skin behaviour, there can be an initial purging period during which breakouts are normal. Gradually incorporating one new product into your regimen at a time and applying test patches first to see what works best for your skin.
      How often you should exfoliate depends on your skin type and skin concerns. Some people do well exfoliating with AHA or BHA twice a day, whereas others find that once a day or every other day is a perfect balance. Test to see what works best for your skin.
      Hyaluronic acid is a sugar. It is not be confused with other acids like salicylic or glycolic acids, which exfoliate away dead skin cells.

    Quick questions, how long should I give myself a rest from acids, and peptides before I start using this for the first time? A day or two days, once I start using this 30% AHA, product for a month or two.. You mentioned avoiding acids, and peptides in any of my products, what about my Vitamin CEF product and my nightly Adapalene? Can I use these still? Or should I use these at night, if only using THO 30% AHA in the mornings twice a week?
    Thank you for your video.

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Peptides shouldn't be used in the same routine as they do not like an acidic environment. The concern is that the AHA+BHA Peel lowers your skin's pH; therefore, the peptides may break down when used immediately after. That acidic environment is good for Vitamin C (theoretically) but can also give you more irritation. So I recommend avoiding pure vitamin c (ascorbic acid serums after the peel) same goes for Adapalene; they do not conflict directly but may increase the chances of sensitivity.
      So my advice is to use them when not using the peel and maybe give the skin a rest for 1-2 days after the peel to reduce irritation (especially if you do it constantly). It may not be an issue when using the peel now and then.

      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Erika,
      Hm, who said so? They can be mixed because I am doing this every day for about three months now. 😆
      I use a cream that includes 4%Benzoyl Peroxide 0,5% Retinol 2% Mandelic Acid, and 2% Lactic Acid.
      I only used it to spot treat the stubborn pimples/acne that I had on my forehead and chin. It worked pretty well, and it looks like they are not coming back. 🤷🏼‍♀️
      I do not recommend using them simultaneously, but I used it in the evening. In the morning, I record my videos, and I am using it combined with The Ordinary products. I also used the cream in combination with Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid. I avoided mainly the peptides, strong acids, and vitamin c when I applied the cream. So it is working. 😀

      Generally, on the day you use the peel, I would recommend skipping other treatments except for your daily cleansing and sunscreen application. You may also choose to apply a moisturizer depending on your habits.
      The next day, you can continue with your usual routine. If you feel that your skin is still a bit sensitive, it's advisable to skip any active ingredients and stick to using a cleanser, moisturizer, and/or sunscreen.

    Hello i have something to ask before i will start using this the ordinary peeling solution and im a first timer and kind of hesitant bcoz i have a very sensitive and dry skin so can i used a CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser but it has a 3 essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid on it? And kind of confused.. before using a peeling solution and also can i used a moisturiser aloe Vera soothing gel? After using a peeling solution?? Thanks for the very informative reviews..

      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! :)
      Yes, that's fine!
      If you have very sensitive skin, the Peeling Solution is going to be too strong for your skin as it leads to stinging and burning. So, I wouldn't recommend using it.
      I recommend looking into a PHA Toner (The Inkey List or Geek & Gorgeous) instead as it is much gentler!

      I recommend consulting with your doctor before using any new skincare products, including chemical peels, while pregnant. Some chemical ingredients in skincare products, including peels, may not be safe for use during pregnancy. I do not have the medical expertise to answer this question, so please speak with your doctor to ensure that the skincare products you are using are safe for you and your baby.

      Yes, use a fair amount of sunscreen, challenging to say how much but so that your face is evenly covered :) Some people say about a half teaspoon for your face and neck. But that's very individual since it also depends on the size of your face 😆

    My understanding is that Alpha Arbutin is Vitamin C does this mean that a vitamin C serum can be used with a niacinamide serum ?

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
      @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alpha Arbutin and Vitamin C are used in skincare for brightening, but they work differently. Alpha Arbutin comes from plants like bearberry and reduces melanin to target pigmentation. Vitamin C, protects skin, boosts collagen, and improves overall skin health. Alpha Arbutin focuses on lightening, while Vitamin C offers more benefits like texture improvement and anti-aging. You can use them alone or together, based on what your skin needs.
      And do not use Niacinamide with Vitamin C.

      Hey! :)
      You can use Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin after the Peeling Solution. Although Hyaluronic Acid would probably be the best option as it just adds hydration to the skin.
