  • I own 57 U2 CD's - all their albums, plus bootlegs and imports. I also have 8 U2 Live DVD's. I show my complete collection, discuss their discography and rank the 16 official U2 releases. As U2 have officially announced their upcoming Las Vegas Sphere shows, which I believe will revolutionize the concert industry, let's celebrate the music and legacy of U2.

Another great video Alan.I'm going to have to dig into my U2 collection and give them a spin.Just got done listening to the new Jethro Tull which is awesome alot of flute and electric guitar some great riffs.

Thanks and thanks for the Tull quick review. It seems to be getting really good reviews. I haven't gotten it yet. Went to buy it today and none of my local stores had the deluxe edition. Looks like I have to order it from Amazon. Glad it sounds great. I really liked Zealot Gene and seems like the new one sounds more "Tull" like so looking forward to it.

    1. Achtung baby
    2. Pop
    3. War

I think Pop is massively underrated. All that you can't leave behind kind of killed it for me, and nothing from that point made an impression.

Thanks so much for watching and giving your ranking. Always fun to see others. Of course, interesting to see Pop so high. For me, especially nice to see Rattle And Hum so high, such an underrated album to me. I think most of the later day U2 albums are pretty great, love All That You Can't....but I respect that you lost it for them at that point. Perhaps one day, you'll enjoy those later day gems. Thanks so much.

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow thanks for replying. I tend to like U2s harder stuff, which is why Joshua tree isnt as high as most for me, as its a bit more commercial (my favourite song on Joshua tree is Exit).
I discovered U2 in the early 90s (Zooropa time) which inspired me to explore their back catalougue. So Pop also came out at a good time for me, and I saw them on the Popmart tour. So "Please" live helped cement that album for me.
I think "All that you can't..." hit me at a different point of my life and it felt too mellow/commercial, like an attempt to replicate Joshua tree.
Ive liked songs since then (Atomic bomb was the best albumn from that era for me) but I dont listen to the full albumns.
And rattle and hum is great. "All I want is you" is my favourite U2 love song (I'll take it over With or Without you.)

      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@smithryansmith yea. When you discover a band and that particular album at that time is massive. I really got into U2 on the War album and saw them live on that tour. But funny that Joshua Tree was so big that I wasn’t s huge fan of that album. Then Rattle and Hum got trashed and I loved that album and even really liked the movie. Their later albums were often overlooked and I loved many of them. Perhaps I’m a bit of a contrarian. Lol. All I Want Is You is also one of my all time favorite songs. Incredible song

Ever since U2 introduced the world to its soul-moving variety of distinctively superb music coupled with intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics, the band has not let up. Since the 1980 release of U2’s debut album, the band’s career has a trajectory that I believe can truly be characterized by an overabundance of great songs - including many B sides - and concerts that are nothing short of being transcendent experiences. Alan, your collection of U2’s music is absolutely awesome. On record, the band doesn’t play it safe. U2 is bold enough to follow up the masterpiece (IMHO) of “Achtung Baby” with the deliberately experimental “Zooropa,” an album that I think is quite good in its own right. In concert, the band ALWAYS gives all it has got - and then some. U2 is not a band that phones it in, no matter how many tour gigs it plays. I state this as a U2 concertgoer and someone who has watched lots of footage from all of the band’s tours. The band has earned its place, over and over again, in the pantheon of the all-time greatest rock ‘n’ roll bands, usually recognized as being The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Led Zeppelin. I state this as someone who has attended every Rolling Stones tour but one since 1975, someone who has seen both The Who and Led Zeppelin live multiple times and someone who has seen, separately in the 1970s, half of The Beatles (i.e. George Harrison and Paul McCartney). I share your dismay, Alan, regarding U2 being a band that people seem to love to hate. Perhaps, as you threw out as a sensible supposition, Bono’s perceived pomposity detours people from diving into U2’s catalog. Personally, I can’t think of any lead singer and songwriter with Bono’s level of talent who hasn’t shown some arrogance at some time. But, for whatever reason, U2 gets picked on. Nevertheless, in the big scheme of things, the band’s track record of top-quality music and sold-out tours worldwide more than counteract the noise of the haters. I also share with you, Alan, your appreciation of the greatness of the “Songs of Innocence” album. The dissing of the album is a mystery to me. I love every song on the LP, with “The Troubles” being one of the most hauntingly spectacular songs I’ve ever heard. If the dissing is because the album was automatically downloaded for free, then I really can’t make sense of it. I’m under the impression that just about everyone loves to get things for free. If somebody is given music for free that is not wanted, it can easily and quickly be discarded. As you stated, “Just delete it.” If a band shares free music
because the band believes the recipient will enjoy that music, why not give that music a listen? It could enrich one’s life.

Welcome back!!!! I missed you, and I'm sure the rest of our small community here did too. Oh you captured the soul and spirit of U2 so well. A friend of mine just sent me a link on Facebook to a thing called U2 - The Tiny Desk Concert - just Bono and Edge at a small desk with a girl's choir. Fantastic. They may be worth billions, they may get pretentious, but they have never sold out musically. Their passion is the same as day one - and the rest is just ancillary. Thanks so much.

Bono’s autobiography is amazing. You have to listen to it on audible or whatever. I think people who slag him off will appreciate him a little bit more. I stopped buying U2 albums after Achtung Baby but still listen to assorted tracks from various albums. I saw them first supporting Thin Lizzy at Slane Castle in 1982 and have seen then 5 or 6 times since. They always put on an amazing show. My favourite song is Kite and my favourite album is The Joshua Tree although to be fair , I am probably not the best person to judge.

Then they released the album I believe to be their best, and stopped for 30 years. It doesn't make sense.
As for those early albums, I rarely listen to them.
There are two albums I think are so much better than the others. Yes, I am talking about The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby.

U2 is the band so many love to hate on - yet still amongst the biggest most important bands in the world. I think it's because they take themselves so seriously both on the world stage (especially Bono) and in their music and what they try to accomplish. They've been like that since the beginning. They never wanted to be just another big rock band - they wanted to be important and leave a legacy. They are fearless and completely innovated and revolutionized the live stage, up there with The Stones and Pink Floyd - pushing it at their own expense where it's never been before. They're also never afraid to take chances with their music and albums - I don't love all their albums, but I love their detours and courageousness - it doesn't always work. But it's been an incredible career. I saw them on the War tour and it was incredible. I saw them at the Sphere and it may be the greatest concert I've ever seen. They're, imho., on the mount olympus of greatest ever with The Beatles, Stones, Who, Zeppelin (and Dylan, Springsteen as well).

I listened to every album chronologically, including every album's b-sides, compilation songs, etc. I will say that they really don't put out bad songs. The lowest rating I gave a song was 4/10 and there were only a few of them. But, on the flip side, I don't think they have many great songs. When they release an album of lower quality, they do manage to bounce back slightly with their next release - many bands can't do that, so that's impressive.

@@mphillips4324 I think it's an amazing undertaking to listen to every song and every album in such a short time period. I certainly applaud your effort. With that said, and I guess I'm weird in this way, for an album to make it "officially" in my database and on my shelves, I have to listen to it at least five times. Which is why I have an immense backlog. But I've always done that. Because music is not in a vacuum - what also effects it is our mood, other music we're listening to at that time frame and just getting used to new material. common sense is the more we hear something the more we like it. We pick up on things or our mood changed etc. So many albums if i only heard once, I would've missed out on it's pleasures if I didn't continue listening to it. Also the flipside - first time I heard it thought it was fantastic and then didn't think so afterwards. Which is why when I review a new album, it's usually months later - so I fully absorbed it, or dumped it because it didn't earn it's spot. But if it's a band I love, I get everything.
