It was vocal fireworks. Incredible and Kirstin's control on the Divine belt and the longevity of the note is amazing.
Thing is, they didn’t want to sing it LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. They did THEIR thing and no one else’s.
I felt Scott ruined the beginning of this song dinking around with his voice. He is the least consistent for high quality singing in this group yet he can really sing. Like the last part for everyone was Grammy winning.

@@carolbuchel3011 funny how we are all different. I loved Scott’s voice in the beginning and would have loved for the other voices at the end to have been softer while Kirsten was belting out those glorious notes.
The reason their voices have improved is because they have all matured. The youngest one, Matt, is 30 years old. They have all been singing and working on their voices for at least 20 years. It shows.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think Scott's distortion is terrific...best version of O Holy Night is the best I've ever heard !!!! BTW, alll other reactors I've listened to have all thought he was superb in this song.
I don’t like Scott’s nasal sound here (but it’s obviously a stylistic choice).
Not sure mentioning other reactors is relevant unless you were going for passive aggressive comparison. Sir Hairless wasn't a fan of part of the arrangement at the end with Kirstie belting and yet that is frequently a part that receives high praise. Reactors have preferences and it’s fine.
She always has something negative to say about Scott's vocals though!

@@TeapotNinjait wasn’t Kirsties belting that sir hairless wasn’t a fan of it was the parts going underneath her while she’s singing that part. I love this cover however I’ll admit Scott does go a little nasal during part of it. That seems to be the style he’s going for these days. He didn’t used to sing like that in the early Ptx days.
I think he does just fine in the beginning...it gives his work later more contrast

I didn’t love the criticism of Scott in the beginning, BUT you’re not wrong about where he absolutely SHINES!!! This is a masterpiece!
I totally agreed with everything she said. Early in yhe song Scott was using his nasally voice, which is not my favorite. His voice is so strong and full when he belts it out in his best zone. Matt came in strong and did a beautiful job. Then Mitch and Kirsty wow.
Jeez, so many people in the comments this time are so unashamedly rude! Guys, different people have different tastes. Why are y'all trying to pick a fight with a reactor who's just giving her honest feedback? Pentatonix isn't money, their music isn't going to be universally liked at all times. And Maggie isn't even saying that Scott's singing is bad, she's just saying she would have liked another style (that she already knows he can do well) from him in this instance???? This isn't a matter of being right or wrong, it's just a matter of opinion. And if you don't want her honest opinion . . . why are you even here?????

It’s her channel and her opinion, I think people are objecting to how she went on and on about it.
she was wrong. it being her channel doesn't mean she wasn't wrong.
It isn't that she doesn't like Scott here but rather that she goes on and on and on about it - to the point of being OBNOXIOUS.
I only listen to this reactor when she does PTX. I’ve never subscribed because she’s a hater and she’s so annoying and wrong!!

Wow! Maggie! Luv UR Musical Journey and Accomplishments. I’ve watched many of your reactions to many videos. Usually many days, weeks, months and sometimes years after they were out. But, this is the first for me in actuality catching ANY reaction in almost real time on YT. I also love Pentatonix. I remember watching them on the Sing-Off and realizing they probably won it on their 4th performance with “Radio Killed The Radio Star”. Anyway, Hope You are doing well and have a Merry Christmas.
When I listened to it first time through, I loved it immediately, maybe all the more because of how it builds. I feel like I hold my breath everytime!

🤩👉 I LOVE Scott's voice he gives you Pop, Soul, R and B, bass, falsettos, He is definitely in the middle of everything they do. "Johnny on the spot".

👉 You've made it very obvious that you don't like Scott, his vocals or both!! That's OK, He is the TRUE HEART of the group and extremely ambitious, which has helped lead the group to the TOP of the A capella chain.
Pop vocals is what comes out of him. Different from the rest of the groups vocals, they are ALL AMAZING and EXTREMELY TALENTED in their own vocal path.
I LOVE Kirstie's super strong vocals here what great POWER!

If this had come on the radio, i believe she would've changed the station and missed what a masterpiece this sing is. Because to stand and say that someone's stylistic choice is WRONG (maybe she xhose the wrong word), as we heard so many times during the reaction, isnt right either. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That being said, saying someone else is wrong, doesn't make you right. You have your reasons for arranging your music the way you like it, so does everyone else.
They wanted to sing it in their way why would the want sound like every other version of this. This song, this version is perfect in every single way. You’re definitely entitled to ur opinion but I couldn’t disagree with you more. It fits PERFECTLY. Perfectly.
I think this Christmas album was nominated for pop album of the year. I love that it is different and accentuates their differences. I’m sure that they mix everything up to keep surprising us as listeners, they don’t only use Scott for belting, or only use Mitch for his high notes. They try to mix it up.

I wouldn't say she beat us over the head with it, she mentioned it and then mentioned it again in comparison to what he did later in the song... which made perfect sense in the context of a reaction video.

I understand what you are saying about Scott, but I respectfully disagree. I believe Scott started that way to allow the gradual buildup of the song. I do think he has the tendency to over sing sometimes, especially with some of his newer music. That said, he’s still a brilliant talent.
In my opinion, the real winners in this song are Matt and Kirstin. Overall, their version blows me away.
I feel that sometimes our expectations and personal tastes get in the way of a good clean reaction. The first time I heard PTX was in 2011 or so when they released Somebody That You Used To Know. I was apparently not in the right headspace and so I felt very 'Meh 🤷' about it. A few months later, I checked it out again and fell 💯% in love with the group.
You're obviously entitled to your opinion as that's what we're all coming here for. We want to know what you think. 😊 However, when you talk about it in terms of 'doing it wrong' or 'wish he'd done it better', you give the impression as a trained singer that he's doing something wrong when he's merely making a vocal decision that you don't vibe with.

@ECM24 And Scott's preferred style to sing in is R&B and as much as she's watched them, she should know that. They modernize Christmas songs and we love it. I still like the old stuff but I've been hearing that since I was a tot and it's so refreshing to hear the songs I love in a more modern way.

This is why I love watching reactors who are educated on vocals. I end up hearing things I didn't before and I agree about Scott at the beginning. But I do think it's because they are preparing you for Matt's vocals. Because that man came in and Matt slapped you all the way to next Christmas. 😂❤
Agreed. I think if Scott had used his full and beautiful baritone at the start, it would have diminished Matts entrance, as he would have continued in a very similar style/tone. PTX don’t do that, by mixing it up you get a real hit from Matt.

Exactly!!! It like her reaction to The Prayer where she thought she found a wrong cord and spent 10 minutes gloating. It was a cord they chose and sounded a hell of a lot better than the original sus cord.

She has reacted to it, she criticized Scott's Italian. We know Scott is not fluent in Italian and he learned it for the song, And though REAL Italian reactors said he was spot on for someone not fluent This reactors said he did not pronounce the language correctly. She doesn't like Scott!

I know I will get some kick back on this....I LOVE Scott....and he has incredible range....but honestly he needs to stay more in his lane more often....He's NOT a tenor or an alto... he is a baritone...
Why do you think it came out "yesterday" (4 days ago)? It's from last year.
When you do the song, you can arrange it to your liking. Here however. You are in the minority; I have listened to hundreds of reactions to this song ever since it came out last year and of the hundreds I've listened to, yours have been the only complaint about Scott. btw... some people prefer pop over opera. That being said... your reaction is your reaction.
It is a pop version that is the best version of this song i've ever heard.This song is boring until this version

What does this mean because it sounds like a backhanded insult to Maggie. If you're going to take the time to write a message, why not put some thought into what and how you say it? I get the idea behind your words and it's why she's taking a lot of hits on this but it might be more effective to expand on your thoughts instead of just being passive aggressive.

She's a person with her own thoughts, and if you don't want to her to express those thoughts, why are you even here? i agree with you about scott. i love his voice but he tends to 'over sing' his parts the last few years. too many frills when it isn't needed. i still love him.
Opera singer arrogance. Spending 1/3 of the performance complaining about minutiae that no one but her notices (or agrees with). Then all of a sudden she decides to flip and suddenly Scott learns (sarcasm intended) how to sing to meet her standards.

Just learned yesterday there is a stripped down version of O Holy Night with Avi recorded about 10 years ago. Much different arrangement and style. No video. Only a Yule Log audio. Both good, just different.
Scott seems to clearly be the leader of the group, but he's clearly the weakest of the group vocally.

I get so frustrated with you I think I am going to unsubscribe. This came out well over a year ago and I have been asking you to review it ever since. I watch another reactor that says this is his favorite Christmas Carol and he said the exact same thing as you about Scott in this. Back in 2011, I watched a post-ep recap/review of The Sing-Off’s first episode of Season 3 where we first heard Pentatonix. One of the reactors had the same thoughts on Scott’s pop voice, that it was too nasally and he saw it as a trend in pop music that he really hated.
Funny thing - the consensus after that first episode was they didn’t see PTX lasting too long on the show. Within a few episodes though, they were already calling them as the eventual winners of the season.
