      3 bars in the basement might be 3 bars when connected to 4g

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @0my it was 3 bars on b12 and my point is 3 bars does not tell if you have good band or good speed. 2 bars of a good band can easily beat 5 bars of a bad one for example.

    I swapped my Arcadyan for the G4AR yesterday, the guy at the T-Mobile store was great, helped me get it all set up before I left the store. I can see noticeably better speeds already just by putting it on the same location I had the old one. Very happy.

My T-Mobile home internet used to be constantly 100-300 down, but for the last month or so it maxes around 60 and frequently drops lower... never know if it's going to be 50, or 20, or 1 (rarely that low)... even though nothing has changed. My Nokia kept randomly restarting the last month or two on its own. Tried calling tech and getting the New Arcadyn but the can't decide what you get. I ended up with another Nokia, that has already randomly disconnected all my wifi devices and I had to power cycle it.
      Also trying to set up a new line to get the Gateway has proven to not work. Apparently the only way to actually guarantee the new Gateway is to go to the store. The problem, none of the stores around me have it yet! 🤷🤦

      @@Bryan-Hensley I have terrible Topography and need a cell booster for my situation. Another problem I have with my Nokia, is that even with the cell booster, it won't pick up 5G when my Phone, that is also T-Mobile is in the same room as the Home Internet and both almost right under the inside antenna. I definitely believe this new gateway would solve that with being able to have an antenna easily hooked up to it rather than just the booted signal.

    Sorry, I know this is a bit off-topic, but I'm going to be receiving my new Tmobile gateway tomorrow, and have a question about hooking up my cable. I currently have a Netgear Router connected via ethernet to an Arris modem, and a coaxial cable from the wall connected into the Arris. (This house is super-old, and I did not set this stuff up!) As the new Tmobile gateway does NOT have a coax cable, will I still be able to use it? I did see something about using a MoCA 2.5 adapter, so I purchased one. Now I'm wondering if this will actually work. Any help from anyone is much appreciated!!

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can return the MoCA adapter. Your old ISP is the Arris modem and it gets "the internet" from the coax cable. Your new tmobile gateway gets "the internet" wirelessly from the cell tower so it does not need the coax. Unplug the ethernet cable from the aris (other side stays in the netgear router as it is) and plug it into the tmobile gateway and you should be all set.

    Ad a brand new T-Mobile home internet customer (this week) I'm glad to find your channel! The router I received is a model KVD21. I have a Netgear MR60 mesh system already in the house. I thought it would be just as simple as connecting the T-M router to the MR60 with the ethernet cable and all would be great. However no matter what I try the Nighthawk app doesn't see T-Mobile? Do you have any experience with something like this? The MR60 worked fine with my existing Starlink router. I decided to try out T-M due to the big price difference going forward. Starlink already did a price increase and it seems like future hikes are coming. I have no access to cable so wireless is my only option at the moment. Thx for any thoughts on this. That's odd, it should see the tmobile gateway for sure. The ethernet is plugged into the WAN port on the Nighthawk? You might have to adjust the WAN settings on the Nighthawk to be setup for dynamic ip/dhcp for thrle WAN connection. Many use a personal router with tmobile including myself.

    Hi Nate. Another great video. I have a question about the latency and the packet loss. My 5G tower is about 150 yards away, and I easily get 500 mbps down / 50 Mbps up, and during certain times I can get close to 700 Mbps down and over 150 Mbps up. However, my latency is never below 53 ms, and quite often I get a pretty high packet drop rate, even though sometimes I get 0% packet drop. So, for me it's not uncommon to get between 10% and 20% packet drop. This is on T-Mobile Small Business connection with a static IP, while being hard-wired to the 5G modem (via my own router). Do you have any thoughts on why my latency is always so high and why I get a high error rate, while having very good download and upload speeds? I can bandwidth lock in my 5G modem.

    Just swapped out my Nokia 5G21 Gatewy for the G4AR and getting amazing speeds. With the Nokia, Ping used to be in high teens up to 35, downloads were up to 150 Mbps but typically around 50 Mbps (as low as mid teens) uploads were low single digit up to mid teens. The local T-Mobile store set up the new G4AR Gateway in shop so when I got home all I did was plug it in and BAM my internet took off. Ping is consistently 8-12, downloads range from 275-550 Mbps and.uploads at 40-60 Mbps. This is without an external antenna. I'm less than a mile from the tower but do not have line of sight from inside the house because of a tall 2 story house that blocks the tower. I was going to get an outside antenna but with these speeds I may save the money. For those wanting to upgrade to the G4AR or G4SE Gateways you'll need to contact your local brick and mortar T-Mobile store to see if they have them in stock and if they'll do a warranty exchange. Otherwise you'll have to pay for an upgrade to Home internet Plus at twice the price.

Nothing has changed as far as I know to the tower we access. So how do you go about getting one of the Arcadyan TMOG4AR units? Can we call T-Mobile and ask for it as a replacement? For reference we always get 2 bars on the Nokia unit, download used to be 40Mbs and up was about 4Mbs, but now it sometimes goes to down 10-20Mbs and up .04 - 1Mbs. Depends on the day but overall performance is down so I'm thinking new hardware like the Arcadyan TMOG4AR should help. None of T-Mobile's gateways offer these options, but even with third-party equipment, and even when using IPv6 where you do receive a non-NAT'ed /64, port-forwarding won't work due to the T-Mobile network being set up to block all unsolicited incoming connections. I've heard, but not confirmed, that customers with the business version of this service (TMBI, which requires a valid EIN number) and who pay extra for a static IP can request incoming connections be unblocked. Otherwise, using a VPN (terminating to a device behind the TMHI gateway) is the only real solution for accepting incoming connections.
