Maybe I just missed it, but I couldn't tell if you went through the website, or called sales, or both. I have a KVD21, and am still in the 15 free return window. I called the T-Mobile store where got it and asked if I could exchange it for the G4AR. They said they would, but only had the KVD21 in stock. Thanks for all the great videos. You may have addressed this in another video, I would appreciate your help with this. We have a mobile STEM lab in Atlanta and was highly considering getting this T-Mobile unit. Thinking of pairing it with a Peplink 4x4 flat round exterior 42G antenna. Will require signal all over GA and will be in different locations weekly. Would you recommend this fixed antenna? Or do you have another suggestion?
Hey Elder Rob, awesome! I went to Georgia Tech for engineering. You can save a few bucks and get the 40G amzn.to/4aKru4J which is the same as 42G but without the WiFi antenna which you dont need if you're using the T-mobile gateway's wifi. I tested the 40G and was impressed with its performance given its small size: th-cam.com/video/89nx10efdxU/w-d-xo.html
Hi Nate enjoy your channel. I want to use the waveform 4 x 4 but I want to buy one without all the accessories included. Does the SMA Type cable hook up to most of the waveform antennas and also the T-Mobile Gateway? And also do you recommend any certain type of cable?
The tmobile G4AR and G4SE gateways have SMA connectors on them. The waveform antennas have N-Type on them. Waveform can provide a custom cable length if desired. Cable quality is important, especially if doing a longer run. Waveform includes RS240 cable. 30ft.
Hey Nate, thanks for the informative video, If you return the opend gateway (due to Antenna hooks) won't that void the warranty and maybe they will charge you full price?
I have not had a problem. I recommend going to a corporate tmobile store for the return as they will process the return and give you a receipt on the spot.
Subsequent to viewing this video I contacted the sales number provided and requested the G4AR White gateway. The sales rep, out of Kansas City, stated he could see a white gateway was assigned and waived the activation fee. Upon receiving, it was the Sercomm G4SE with external antenna ports. A brief test showed 750 down 120 up without external antenna via 3/4 mile cell tower. Additionally, the HINT app running on Windows 10 via Ethernet was able to function properly and turn off and on wifi. An error was shown, however, restarting the app showed it did indeed toggle off or on wifi. The same results were obtained with HINT running on Linux mint. With Wi-Fi disabled, the Asus mesh connected and provided 590 down on iphone connected to the 5g radio. Seems almost a clone of G4AR. Thank you for the great content!
I have the new white one..Arcadyan TMOG4SE which is even newer than the one on here. I'm not real happy with it. Won't connect with wireless printer and I only get 2 bars 3 if I am real lucky. Speeds the first day was 900+ next day it was around 100 or less.Today it's running around 200. I know others around me that have the older black one and they are getting speeds of 400+. It also gets really hot and tech support told me I needed to return it only they are out of stock on these and don't know when they will have any back in stock. So told me I had to call all the T-Mobile stores til I found one that had one in stock. The closest store is an hr drive. And no, they don't have it either, neither did anyone else. Was looking into getting the $99 antenna for it but they are also out of stock everywhere too.
I'm signing up now in Las Vegas and I'm getting a Sercomm TMO-G4SE that looks like an Arcadyan clone and has external antenna ports. A review of it (TMO Report) says it comes with a T-Mobile branded antenna.
Found that if you go to a Brick and Mortar Store you can ask for the Arcadyan G4AR and see if they have it at any store in the area. Also I just did my order test and found that the said unit is the one shipping per the order document! Wanted to post the picture, no idea how to do that in TH-cam... >
@@NaterTater Unit is working like a charm! Thank you once again for pointing out this unit and helping guide me (and hopefully others as well) to this!!!
Hello Nate, in your opinion if I already have the Arcadyan KVD21 and is using a standalone router with it basically turned the gateway into a modem and getting good speeds and pings, is it worth trying to get the new white gateway to use by itself with its external antennas? Thank you
@@Bryan-HensleyTotally agree about better reception with Arcadyan. I had Nokia for almost 3 years and finally got my hands on the first Arcadyan. Better reception but a little slower speeds but less connection issues. For me, I'll take the trade-off rather then having to reboot once a week.
I'd pick a 3rd party gateway over any of them. With no external antenna I'd pick Sagemcom 5688w. With external antenna I'd pick G4AR. And I'd pick the nokia with 3rd party fan over Arcadyan KVD21.
@@NaterTater thanks I used to have 2 Nokias on a residential account and a Arc on a business account. We recently had fiber to the home installed in our area so I got rid of one of the Nokias. Going to keep one of the gateways as a backup just trying to figure out which one to keep.
Hey Nate. Great content. I am trying to validate when placing an order on T-Mobile and I don’t see anywhere to identify a model number when placing the order? Any place on the order page I need to be looking at?
@@NaterTater thanks. Wish I could post a picture reply. They must have changed their system because on the submit page all I see is “T-Mobile 5G Gateway”
I just ordered a new one - my current Arcadyan seems to be dying. I so wish I had watched this first. Looks like I'm getting a direct exchange - and the one I have now is hacked and set up with a 4x4 Mimo antenna on the roof. I will see if I can somehow exchange the new one for this one with the ext. antenna ports. Hoping I can call and convince them to exchange but I haven't let them know I moved it to my new house in a rural area with a metal roof. When I tried to get one for here they said they had no internet service in the area.
I still have the old round grey nokia gateway. I have had trouble with that one twice, and they replaced it with the same one!👿👿👿🤦🏾♂️ Im pissed! Im going to get the new unit somehow.
Hello Nate I would like to add a comment here. If you are customer in a fringe area for the service, you might want to tell them that. Also tell them you are in a house like I am with metal siding and a metal roof and the external antenna ports would allow you to put up external antennas for better service. I have three accounts there for tablet plans and all three have external antennas. Without them my speeds are as bad or worse that DSL more like Dial Up at 56KBS. My house looks like a FCC monitoring station with all the antennas and towers.
That is an interesting take. You are kinda requesting a specific device, without requesting a specific device. If TMHI wants you to have the best customer experience they may authorize the exchange/"upgrade" to the new gateway.
Hey Tater. I just got the G4AR am getting great speeds, i want to put my Asus mesh router back in place, is there a way to turn off wifi on this model?
Pixel 8 pro here using this white T-Mobile router. What app works on control for the router. The T-Mobile app sucks. I use Netgear, Ubiquiti and Cisco in my work. They are a different world. What app do you recommend? Enjoy your content. Charlie

I guess I got lucky. I have the trash can for like two and a half years now. It gave out and they sent me this new one. Now I just need to purchase the external antenna.
Opened a new tmhi line this morning. This is what is showing up on the order (T-Mobile-5G Gateway A2) is this the newest one with external antenna ports?
Anywho. Maybe this is better than the Nokia trash can I been wanting to throw in the pond last couple years. External antennas are required where I live. Watching the potato disassemble the black Arcadyan now. I assume that's what I'll be getting.
@@Bryan-Hensley I can concur kind of. I've heard not to run without an antenna hooked up to the board. I got some dummy loads to use on the connectors that aren't being used. Before I knew this I ran my first Nokia without antennas on two ports and had all kinds of issues.

Now I'm facing with getting another gateway off eBay or swapping this Nokia out. I can't sign up for a new line, nothing available. I don't know if I should wait or go ahead and swap for something I'm probably not going to like. Does anyone know if the stores are getting these yet?
Autodraft date is based on when you ordered the service. This date has been a problem, last date of the month. Can get a new account closer to deposit date to change autodraft date. Two birds, one stone.
Great video Nate. Any idea if the 2X2 antenna would work with the new gateway or do i need to upgrade to the 4X4 which i dont want to do because of the added cost.
I test it here th-cam.com/video/RU0yrPR2qzg/w-d-xo.html It technically works but appears to be slower than the stock internal antennas (only exception would be if you cant physically locate the gateway where it gets signal but your 2x2 is outdoors or something).
@@NaterTater I'll definitely watch the video. Right now my issue is that the signal is barely making it inside the house. If I place my gateway outside the signal gets a bit better so I was hoping to be able to get the new gateway and was hoping the 2X2 waveform mimo antenna would increase the almost non-existent signal. Thank you

T-Mobile is king when working.....and cheaper.
T-Mobile should have a upgrade path if they don't want people cancelling service and opening new lines. Even if it's a paid upgrade or with some fee. Doing so would save them time and money when new gateways are released.

Great to hear!

Sounds like you got it! Let us know how it works.

@@NaterTater Unit is working like a charm! Thank you once again for pointing out this unit and helping guide me (and hopefully others as well) to this!!!
Do you know if the modem can be put into a pass through mode to disable the router function?
It cannot.
Hello Nate, in your opinion if I already have the Arcadyan KVD21 and is using a standalone router with it basically turned the gateway into a modem and getting good speeds and pings, is it worth trying to get the new white gateway to use by itself with its external antennas? Thank you
Following...
I've seen several people say the kvd21 is the best in weaker signal areas, not comparing with the new one though.
So Nate you have had all four devices. In there stock form how would you rate them?
Before the final checkout submit it will say something like "5G Home Internet Gateway A" as the device.

You wont be able to convince them to exchange with a different gateway. It will have to be a new line.
I still have the old round grey nokia gateway. I have had trouble with that one twice, and they replaced it with the same one!👿👿👿🤦🏾♂️ Im pissed! Im going to get the new unit somehow.

Have you ever disassembled the G4AR gateway? I’m so curious to see the innards of it
I have not
Do you have the new WRC-CR200A for Verizon? Can you do a guide for making just a modem? Please?
I have that on my to-do list!
Very informative. Thanks.
You're welcome!
Hello Nate
I would like to add a comment here.
What speeds are you getting?
Hi Nate, I just got this new white T mobile gateway. Can I use the previous script to disable the built in gateway wifi?
No, but you can use the hint app.
Hey Tater.
I just got the G4AR am getting great speeds, i want to put my Asus mesh router back in place, is there a way to turn off wifi on this model?
yes, this works: th-cam.com/video/Qy-f8xfPk4s/w-d-xo.html
curious on returning a gateway that has the "warranty void" sticker removed. How has T Mobile felt about that?
They've been fine so far for me. I return at a corporate store in person and they provide a verified reciept before I leave.

Does not appear to be. Listen to the show again starting around 3:20
thanks @ronkris

No
I requested it, because I tried the other and it didn’t work well. I was told they couldn’t tell me which one I would get

probably for replacements. intended for temporary use.

Still wondering if I can hack together a lipo power supply and see if it works while mobile.

My Nokia is dropping the 5g signal over and over. I got another one off eBay but it won't upgrade firmware from original (no WiFi calling, many glitches, it's not dropping the signal though).
If I place my gateway outside the signal gets a bit better so I was hoping to be able to get the new gateway and was hoping the 2X2 waveform mimo antenna would increase the almost non-existent signal. how can you have 2 5g modem gateway on one account
Sign up for a 2nd line and they send you a 2nd gateway
so i ordered this but it said 32 gb what does that mean??

At least the new is white... because they work best near a window, and the black absorbs the suns heat...
yes, should be cooler
T-Mobile should have a upgrade path if they don't want people cancelling service and opening new lines. Even if it's a paid upgrade or with some fee.
Doing so would save them time and money when new gateways are released.
True
Or they should build a solid gateway instead
