    Great lesson here , especially in how odd rhythms return to 1 after that metric division is counted out . But the lesson is also another great example of how simple things can be very effective and super imteresting when the right accent subdivision is impossed on it !!

    Hey Nate, as someone who has always loved math, I dig this type of thing. And personally, I knew immediately what you meant about congruent, makes perfect sense. 😉 The advanced phrase in 5 is a mind bender though..
    On an unrelated note, I've been going back and watching pretty much every old video you've ever done. There was one, where you did this thing going from the snare, to the toms, playing 5-6-7 consecutive notes with a single hand to further gain speed and agility around the kit. As a lefty, my right hand has always struggled to keep up with my left. When I'm on the snare, it's almost a dead even heat, but going around the toms at super high velocity, for the life of me I can't keep the same endurance of speed with my right hand as I can with my left, keeping notes even. Anyway, that video seemed like it would assist in improving that, but I can't find which one it was. A little help?

    Hey Nate, as a person who's always hated math, I still dug this type of thing. Great exercise. I think this is very useful for building independence etc.

    3 on the kick and 5 between the ride and snare and 4 on the hihat pedal is a fun one as well
    Hands: r l l r L
    Kick: K _ _
    Hats: O C O C
    right on ride left on snare
    capital = accent
    _ = rest
    each note = quaver
    hihat played heal-toe to get the classic open closed (O & C) sound.

    In my teaching experience, the most difficult coordination exercise ever is hitting your left hand in unison with your right foot (or vice versa) in the middle of a phrase. Stupid human body.. not wanting to do things that aren’t intuitive…. :)
