    Replaced the 3rd gear pressure switch MYSELF after dealer was beating around the bush. So far, so good.

      MrRangerZr1 I have a Honda Odyssey 2005 I have the same problem when reaching the speed of 20 bellows shake the car and when driving continuously about half an hour it crashes and does not work transmission

    My 2016 started doing this early this winter with ~68k miles. Third gear seems to be the issue. After the first few times this happened, I started going easy on the gas. Now it seems to shift into gear very slowly, allowing the engine RPMs to spike between gears. I'll check out your repair video. This is my first, and last, Honda.

    Wow, Honda really needs to see this. At this point, I think the best of the Odysseys are the 2005-2010 since they're one of the least complained about. I had a 2006 with 218,000 miles and I have a 2001 with 319,000 original miles

      07-10 non-vcm models are the best out of any odyssey.

      @@MrRangerZr1 I agree, they're definitely a huge step up from the 1999-2001 model. I have a 2001 with 319,000 miles and the original transmission finally died on it.

      @@MrRangerZr1 I agree, luckily I have tons of junkyards near me with these 4 speed Honda automatic transmissions, so I can score one for $800 in good mechanical shape and pay someone to put it on. Compared to the $3,000 to build it, $1,800 is a hell of a deal to keep it running since the engine still runs like a dream with plenty enough speed to get around

    2010 Toyota Camry. 2.5L engine with 297k miles on it. Transmission shifts perfect, never had any issues whatsoever. Honda's transmission are just not as reliable as Toyotas.

    My 2017 Odyssey has same problem, I sent to dealer and spent $, still same problem later... not trust dealer anymore, did research and found it is very common issue, regret to have this car.

    How did you tell it is third gear problem? Did you listen to the shift or there is an error code. I have a 2016 Odyssey. Its transmission does not feel smooth 2 years ago. The shift felt better after changing transmission fluid 2x. Now it started again. I am thinking about changing its switch but I don't know which one to change, could be 2 or 3.

    Thanks for the video. Dealer replaced my 3rd gear pressure switch for my 2016 RDX with around 30K miles ish about 2 years ago. Been good since but now with 80K miles starting to have this issue resurface again, however, the main difference being it mainly happens on cold start/drive and goes away after a restart. Weird. If it starts to consistently happen, will probabaly have to replace the switch again.

      That’s what mine did too. I am now at 60k miles on this van and no issues after replacing the switch.

    My 2015 80k 1st day I bought it , its started shuttering and the next day flashing Engine light..PAID 20K FOR IT ..Should of went with the Sienna Toyota but I fell for the double screen the Honda had..

      Take it back to the place you bought it from.
      The new 2021+ sienna is out of question however. Hybrid + CVT in a van? No thanks.
      Previous V6 models were bulletproof.

    That is caused by bad solenoid. I had same problem with 2016 odyssey ex-l. When you go to honda, they cannot handle it before the master technician comes. Normal technicians of honda do not have the ability to figure it out. You will have to wait for one week for diagnosis.

      @@MrRangerZr1 Just go to honda dealershop, and show this video. They may check the symptoms, but they cannot deal with it because they do not have the ability to resolve it. And they will give a rental car if you have still factory warranty. It covers everything cost.

      I showed them this video and more videos of the problem. They failed. I am not going to let them keep my car for weeks to end up telling me "couldn't duplicate problem"

    I had same problem with my 2014 Odyssey and dealer replace transmission at 38k. After new transmission put in I would have problem shutting off engine unless I shift my gear up and down several times. This is the only way I can shut off the engine. Slowly problem start to go away by itself but it took many months. I think I'm done with Odyssey. Time to move on to different brand.

      Honda never got their auto transmissions right. To this day they still have major quality issues, getting worst day by day.

    I have a 16 oddy with 57k and it was shuddering between 20-40mph. There was a tsb for it and I just had the 3x flush done. Now it doesnt shudder BUT I can still sense unevenness in the acceleration in 2nd-3rd gear.

      Even after the dealership transmission software update, the transmission feels weird. All honda automatics are clunky, gotta live with it.

I went to my local dealership and it looked at me like I was crazy that I just wanted a transmission software update and they said that without a known issue they wouldn't just do an update. They wanted me to pay the $100 diagnostic fee for them to do a test drive.

      @@Phoenix19Crece what is the issue you are experiencing? I have an odyssey 2015. My van has uneven acceleration, rpm spikes and weird shifts sometimes. Sometimes feels ok. It fluctuates with acceleration when going uphil and also taking off from a stop.

    Hi Mr Ranger, I have the 2014 ODY EX-L. My problem is from 1st to 2nd gear only, no other gears, no codes, even with a deep scan but everything explained in the video is exactly the same, just with the 1st & 2nd gears. Could this be the same problem with the 3rd gear pressure switch? Or it would be a different pressure switch?

      You need the code to pop to know exactly.

    Hey Mr ranger! thx for the video and the follow up. ive got a nov 16 build oddy. with a hard shift from 1-2. Few times its been so bad I thought we where gonna loose the trans out the bottom. no codes and have flushed the atf a couple of times seems like it helped according to my wife who drives it. It may be worth a $50.00 sensor to try cause I think its still looming.

      I have the same issue. 2015 125k miles. Took it to tranny shop today. Turn the car off an on again, issue goes away. We will see

      The ZF 9-speed aren't the best. Honda stopped using them. In general all Honda transmission are clunky.

    Holy cow that's bad, my 2011 has 135k miles, already did a flush of the atf but mine down shifts a little rough, jerks hard sometimes when shifting into reverse, it bugs a little when letting off the gas and has pretty loud and very noticeable torque converter shudder. I was told it's common and Honda has yet to make a recall although its affected so many people, its incredibly irritating. I bought it for my wife for almost 11k out right and at that time it was a great deal for the market, I'm totally pissed with Honda, its bullshit their cars act like this and some how they get good reliability ratings. The car fax even showed it was taken care of very well yet it acts up, should have bought a sienna I guess...

      All honda auto transmissions are garage, PERIOD. Honda can't put an auto trans together properly, engines and everything else are good but the transmission is the worst part.

      You need to scan the ECU for stored DTCs then go from there

    Problem with people not doing their homework before buying, Honda Odyssey, Caravans and T&C all have problems from when they start building them they never got the hang of it they still build those weak transmissions. Obviously Toyota Sienna the way to go if you want reliable safe minivan

    I have question for my accord 2008 I feel when I’m driving slowly from 0km when the gear shift from 1 to 2 it s heavy strong like the car not silky for the other 3,4 normal and if I’m going fast from 0 km you will not feel that much issue

    i just bought used 2016 odyssey with 42k miles yesterday 9/25/2021 and it just happened today when i went out to get some lunch. but after i turned off the car and turned it on a gain it stopped.

      ​@@MrRangerZr1 my family's 2017 Honda Odyssey's transmission died, or at least was on the way to dieing, now I wonder if we should keep it or not after the repair (Which Honda might pay for.). I wonder if the new transmission will have the same issue or if it's updated or something and will be reliable, or if our transmission was just a lemon. We really like our van, but I don't want to have the transmission replaced again in 6 years.

      @@MrRangerZr1 Failed, but the dealership said that they're initial diagnosis was wrong and that it needed the fluid flushed, which we thought we already did a year ago. The dealership didn't do it last time like we thought they did. The dealership had new people now. Car seems fine now.

      @@MrRangerZr1 its at the dealership for a possible transmission replacement but I am not confident we will end up buying it because we babied the car drove it like a grandma and transmission broke so with the repaired or new transmission I don't know how long that will last .

      I'm still under warranty. Dealership "couldn't replicate problem" lol If I was out of warranty they would've said different.
