    Key is proper maintenance. If you want any car to last, change engine and transmission oil and filters as required by auto maker. I have 4 cars in my family and all of them have over 300,000 miles on them. Same with people....if you take care of yourself, you too will be in good shape and live a long time.

    You are right about these CVT transmissions . They are made for gas mileage and not for racing. Driving normal and changing CVT fluid at about 30000 miles will help tremendously. The fluid breaks down like your engine oil does. Everything you said is true. There is you tube videos on how to replace CVT fluid Not hard to do. 😊

      The local Honda dealer recommends service at intervals. Their 30K service includes the fluid change. The shop drains the fluid and refills. Gotta admit the car felt like it just came off the showroon floor afterwards.
      I'm a former Hyundai / Chevy owner and did tranny fluid changes 50K and every 50K afterwards and haven't had a problem.
      In the old days ... we would let let the tranny drain out, drop the pan, replace the filter and gaskets, refill, and check fluid levels.

    To simplify it all down; maintain proper intervals when it comes to transmission fluid changes.
    If you plan on doing short trips from home to work majority of your time; then it’s best to change transmission fluids every 60,000 km (roughly 40,000 miles).
    However, if your work requires highway driving or you do lot of road tripping, then it’s best to change within 75,000 to 80,000 km (50,000 miles roughly).
    With proper transmission maintenance also comes proper engine oil and servicing!
    Change engine oil every 5,000 to 6,000 km if you plan on using the vehicle on short drives as mentioned! As I had mentioned above again; if longer commutes daily or road tripping on a more frequent basis, then change oil every 7,000 to 8,000 km.
    Never go by what dealerships say, (knowing BMW, they want the engine to fail so you pay them 10 grande to replace it)

    A cvt gives you 1 -2 miles a gallon better gas milage. Doesn't matter to me but te manufacturer gets credit from the gov based off fleet milage, so when you save 1-2 miles pure galloon and you produce 100k to a million vehicles adds up pretty good for the manufacturer, kinda like carbon credits.

I have a very heavy foot and have had both Altima up to 200,000 miles. The Maxima is currently at 120,000 miles. I've read that the Maxima has a more beefed up CVT than the Altimas had? Can someone verify this?

    I have a question, I have a 2014 Honda LX and I bought it used. And it has around 132k right now and I believe it has Never been changed. I want to have it changed but I'm not sure if I should have it changed or not. At the same time I am going to have my brake fluid changed because after having my new brakes/rotors replaced I feel the brake pedal not to firm and the braking is not smooth as before. For the CVT I only feel a bit of a jerk at low speeds as when for an example coming to a stop, then the traffic goes and I start accelerating and it jerks a very little bit. I checked online and other CVT Honda owners have said that they felt the same at low speeds. Like 2 or 3 times I felt like the car when I let off the brake pedal it seem it didn't want or easy move forward. I don't know if the brakes are stuck or something with the transmission but it all started after getting my new brakes and rotors replaced. Thanks, for the video and the tips. I think CVT is OK for light use in a passenger car and the fluid is changed regularly.
      However, the regular automatic transmissions are much more durable and reliable.
      From what I've read and experienced, as long as the fluid is changed regularly with quality full synthetic ATF, the filter will not need to be changed. However, if you don't know the transmission's history, I would definitely change the filter. This is what I've done and I've never had a problem. @@jonboz7585

    • @patrickmcguire8200
      @patrickmcguire8200 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a difference between a flush and a drain and fill. Drain and fill not flush. Al trannies 😅 have a filter, they will tell you it does not but it does, it is internal and is not as easy to access as it once was. The best thing to do is change the filter and the fluid if possible without having to pull the whole transmission. If the dealer does a flush, they will connect a machine to the cooler lines that typically connect to the bottom of radiator. And pump the fluid in a reverse direction. That will blow all the crap caught in the filter back into the tranny. Also there are valves that may be damaged by this. If you have not changed your fluid regularly don't bother. Any good tranny was manufactured to last 150 to 200k anyways.

Secondly, I'm concerned about the transmission. So, not pressing too hard on the gas pedal is key to not killing it so early, eh? I am not a speedster but I do live in Florida. Hello, you’re very informative. My question, 2008 CVT Nissan S model runs ok until I accelerate more it shudders a bit. I’ll accelerate more and it runs perfect, pretty fast too. I bout Lub-Gard CVT TRANS ADDITIVE. Guaranteed to stop the shudder I changed the trans cooler filter and also the trans filter at the bottom. I’m ready to pour the Lub-Guard. Do you think it’s worth doing it?

      I wouldn’t add any crazy stuff start with check fluid level or do fluid change and then check level could be low

      No Lub-Guard. So what do you is causing the slight shudder ? And what’s the fix ? Is there is any.

      @ like I said try doing the service could be bad fluid or transmission going

      I purchase parts specifically from Nissan including trans fluid. Upon your suggestion I have not yet pored Lub-Guard.. yet.

    For tip #1, how many RPM do you recommend maximum? For tip #2, how many minutes do you recommend?

    • @RBTheMechanic
      @RBTheMechanic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Rpm I would say stay normal shift RPM like Automatic transmission Close to 2,700 and no time frame give it good 10 minutes

    I have a 2014 nissan pathfinder platinum, my mechanic said that my cvt is failing but my vehicle is overall driving fine and it does jerks on few occasions dyring its auto gear shifting, I dont remember when the fluid was flushed last time, does it make sense to flush the fluid at this point since its failing

    I have a 2018 civic cvt with 18k miles on it. Should I do my first change at 20k like the dealer told me, or wait until 30k? Should I just do a fluid change or should I do a flush as well? Thanks!

    • @roberts1159
      @roberts1159 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      30k change intervals should be just fine. But if you are doing mainly city driving and plan on keeping the car many years then 25k would suit you better. Use only Honda CVT recommended fluid. Personally just change fluid with recommended fluid quantity and call it good.

    • @RBTheMechanic
      @RBTheMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do it at 20k even better then continue to do it at 20 every 20k

    There's only one way to make your CVT last longer. Drive like you have a bowl of gold fish on the front seat.
