      Ken Aldhizer He's also had a longer career...and performed more shows...and this was before newer music technologies so the sounds are more natural and analogous...so you got the sound from passion and intent rather than layering electronic effects. Also comparing time periods of music feels right because nostalgia gets in the way, nothing is truer than the emotions felt the first time you fall in love with certain songs and artists. If you're not finding artists you enjoy nowadays you're not looking, or you're not making your own music. With so many social media platforms out there it's tough to weed through and find the good stuff, but it's worth it. Just a pain in the ass. And for the record, damn is Chuck one hell of a performer. Freakin legend!!!

    I saw Chuck Berry live in New Jersey in 1969. We all sang along to his "sexy" version of "My Ding-A-Ling. This was 3 years before it became a Billboard #1 hit. Chuck was the "Mark Twain of Rock 'n' Roll". Sheer lyrical genius - and in the process, he transformed Rock 'n' Roll lead guitar.

We sat down next to him at the counter and the whole restaurant fell silent until we settled in. A group of tough guys in a booth eyed us up and down. The counter guy was looking like he had too much coffee! What did we know! We were talking waves, and cloudy water and such. We were pooped and cold and wet from SCUBA diving. After he left, the counter guy clued us in. It was Chuck Berry. I kept his cigarette butt and match book for about five years!

    WHERE IT ALL STARTED

    • @soulman7429
      @soulman7429 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      King Moses ... where *what* exactly "started"?
      If you're referring to music history and the overblown misattribution Chuck "started" it all, it was Chuck & Elvis who both told people (publicly) that Fats Domino was the one deserving of credit. They both pointed out Fats was doing R&R in 1949... 7 years before the 1956 R&R explosion. James Brown also, and many others pointed to Fats as often being overlooked but much more deserving of being right in the middle of that convo.
      Now if you're speaking about "it all started" referring to Chuck just being *your own personal introduction to music years ago*, then disregard my response, and in that case, not a bad start!
      I hope Chuck & all the other great icons from that era are resting in peace.
