Thank you!!! Learning and teaching my own son as we go. I've had my '05 for about 7 years, and she's part of the family. Wish your son the best with her
6:11 Indeed, no need to be afraid as long as the throttle body is entirely unplugged electrically, and you make sure to open the plate gently and slowly so as to not damage the delicate gear train inside the inner workings. :) This is an often overlooked maintenance job that can make a big idle quality improvement!
I’m about to try this before I go and pay over $300 for a throttle body replacement or just to get it cleaned 😅 and being charged like a replacement 😑 you make it seem easy, so I’ll give it a try ☺️
If you're going to clean the throttle body, I would also recommend a couple of other things to do at the same time. 1. Replace Air Filter 2. Clean the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensors) with nothing but a MAF Spray cleaner, and do not wipe or touch the sensitive wire, just spray and let air dry.
Thanks for this video! I just cleaned my throttle body. I was having idle issues when using my AC. Slightly erratic idle and when coming to a stop a very slight thump. The problem is gone. Toyota Tacoma 2015 V6 30,600 miles.
great video… hv a 2006 runner… u showed mr how i can clean the throttle body diy… no back ground in fixing cars … learned by youtube… thanks for clearly explaining how to step by step
PCV is positive crankcase ventilation & it’s not attached to your throttle body. It’s mounted toward the back of the engine ( up top ) on the driver’s side.
Nice job! Wow you have the manual i have an automatic unfortunately. I'd love to get the manual transmission but they're so hard to find for the v6 4x4..
I have a 07 Tacoma 2wd auto and out of no where a few months ago I would start to slow down while on the highway. When this happens and I try to accelerate the rpms will go up but the speed will barley increase. This usually lasts for 10-20 seconds then it instantly frees up and feels like you hit the nitrous button cause it's such a noticeable change in speed. Ive checked over my brakes assuming they were somehow applying by themselves slightly and also checked my air filter. Not sure if might be a dirty MAF or TB possibly bad coil but it only does it while I'm on the highway never on backroads. No check engine lights either I'm stumped.
Revs increasing with no increase in speed is usually transmission related . Check your fluid levels with the engine warm and running . Too high is just as bad as too low.
@@RevBCSTi It actually just went away one day. Then I had a shaking in my steering wheel which only happens on the highway around 60mph. I also my brakes applying themselves which sucked. I replaced my master cylinder, booster, calipers and rotors. It's been very frustrating. The truck driver great on city streets and doesn't have any shifting issues or shaking issues but on the highway it's hit or miss.
Thanks for sharing that much of experience and knowledge Sr, I really appreciate it. I can feel confident doing it my self. God bless you and your family and business. Thanks for helping your son, blessings.
I was told the same thing, they said to have someone inside the truck, turn the key to the on position, but not actually start it, and very slowly press the gas pedal so the butterfly opens up while someone else cleans it.
I've messed with my throttle body at least 5 times. Never had an issue. 270K so far. The only results are a super smooth idle and much better running truck.
Clean the mass air sensor & throttle body because my, 2011 4WD Tacoma automatic, idles at 1000 RPM. After cleaning these two items it still idles around 1000 or 11000 RPM. I think this is a little high
Clean air intake idle RPM should be around 700. Sounds like something needs to be cleaned or maybe new spark plugs, or build up on your exhaust valves etc....
@@fupabox ok so cleaned out throttle body and Maf sensor and still have the shaking but mainly when I’m Parked ,, rpm still normal no fluctuations only thing I see that it’s around 7500 rpm at idle but doesn’t bounce around
Am having the same problem in my 2008 Tacoma, I have changed all the spark plugs to new ones, yet no improvement. Please how did you solve yours? Thanks 🙏
I think if I can avoid not taking off throttle body butterfly just spray some intake cleaner and get the brushes to clean out my rifle move it a around a bit, a play some kind of rag to clean out carbonite and then wrap some kind of rag around brush that is long- to clean the barrel of a airflow just put back air filter back on???, that might not be the best way but we avoid any trouble with technical issues for breaking sensors and computer mapping, but doing that holding the butterfly open properly with that cause any damage brush cleaner for a rifle for example
If you do it that way , be sure to have the key out of the ignition or the idle control control could grab a finger real hard. you can gently open the butterfly valve without damage . A rifle cleaning brush would be ok
He's 26 and working full time . I even have 2 grandkids ..scary how fast it all goes. We do a lot of the work together and I do some when I have time off and he's working.
with modern cars the key in the ignition can "wake up certain computer or body modules " They should have the power removed from them when they are "asleep " or key out of the ignition to prevent sudden power being pushed into the circuit . If the battery sparks or the terminals get crossed while installing the battery ,then the modules that are awake with the key in the ignition could be damaged .

Agreed. 15 minutes and a vastly improved idle

Your son has no idea how lucky he is, I been working on my own Tacoma since that "warranty" ran out.

To reset idle you turn key on, press full throttle than back to idle position. Do this 3 times in a row and shit the key off and should be good

Did you find the issue? I have the exact same problem
Looks like trns fluid is low.
Almost definitely have the wrong trans fluid levels

Honda CRV (2004-2006) re-learn idle by starting the car, keep it 3000 rpm until engine up to temp , then release throttle pedal.
Your voice sounds like iron man😉 Thanks for the video
thank you for your time to teach.
Have you done a crankshaft sensor replacement on this Tacoma? Can't find a video online.
no I haven't ...yet . That's jinxed me for sure ..lol
I believe you got the torque wrong. It's not 12 ft-lbs it is 12 Nm or 108 in-lbs (that's for the V6).
I was told to never manually move the butterflies on an electronic throttle body. No?

My 07 Tacoma is idling rough when parked n at a stop ,, rpm are normal no check engine light could it still be the throttle body or Maf sensor ???
Could be either . Throttle body is cheap to clean so best to start there .

You could have a bad spark plug or coil pack
Am having the same problem in my 2008 Tacoma, I have changed all the spark plugs to new ones, yet no improvement. Please how did you solve yours? Thanks 🙏
Excellent explanation Master, thank you very much
Glad you liked it!
Is the plastic device attached to the throttle body that you unplugged, the throttle position sensor?
So just disconnect the battery for 10 min will do? My subaru is not so easy the process is about 20 mins.

Old tooth brush probably better idea…those military style (I assume that’s what you’ve got as I do) brushes are pretty stiff…
Huh
Nice vid. Thank you
THANX again
Did it make much of a difference?
Smoother idle , better throttle response
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge my friend.
Thank You.
Very welcome
Have 2012 tacoma 4 cylinder had it tuned up .now it uses more gas than it did before the tune up. What causes this
THANX
Awesome.... thank you
Can you please let me know where the fuel filter is located on this model
None!
It's attached to the pump which is In the gas tank
You never wiped out intake manifold ? Mine was a mess
Always, always, power tool OFF and hand torque ON.
Does this work for the 2.7 liter?
A little different in removing the throttle body , but yes the reset should work the same as well
Why not include your son while doing this, don’t be afraid to teach him some basic vehicle maintenance
He's 26 and working full time . I even have 2 grandkids ..scary how fast it all goes. We do a lot of the work together and I do some when I have time off and he's working.
Does this work for an 06?
yes.
5 brushes for $2 at the dollar store haha
What happens if you leave the key in when you unhook battery
with modern cars the key in the ignition can "wake up certain computer or body modules " They should have the power removed from them when they are "asleep " or key out of the ignition to prevent sudden power being pushed into the circuit . If the battery sparks or the terminals get crossed while installing the battery ,then the modules that are awake with the key in the ignition could be damaged .
Are you a Toyota tech?
nope...
Good job but definitely wear gloves that cleaner is toxic
I always begin with them .. ( well usually ) then give up when I rip em . good advice though
What happens if you leave the key
Same question
I have seen and had that dialectic grease harden like sugar crystals in the past. Hate the stuff never ever use that crap on anything.
Use it on your fan belts, prevents sqeeking
What happens if you drive your car with the bad idle
generally nothing other than an annoying idle speed .
@@fupabox rite on man . I figured it out . I got on the freeway and drove it for 30 miles. When I turned it off and on again it was good
