Does anyone still make this?? I genuinely forgot just how good it was, I actually prefer how my Wash & Go's turn out when I use Flaxseed & Aloe Vera Gel rather than store bought gels. This is super moisturising too! Let me know what you think :)
I love that you added in aloe for that extra boost of curl definition and shine! I usually just go for straight flaxseed gel with a little bit of essential oil. I'm definitely going to try out this combo next and see how it works out for my curls 🙌🏽
Hi Elise, thank you 🙏🏿 for sharing this video. May I make a suggestion? I have discovered that flaxseed gel will go through a strainer no problem when it is still hot and will thicken in the same manner once strained 😉 but it’s sooo much easier than trying to strain it once it has thickened. Also, putting the aloe Vera gel through a blender will allow you to strain it much more easily 👍🏾. Actually, putting the finished product through a blender will probably loosen it up nicely for use 😊 Great recipe! Thanks again x
That's genius!!! It's one of those things you don't think about until someone says it - and then it's obvious lol! Especially about the flaxseed gel, that's a lot less hassle. Thanks hun. 😊
Yup I found that out after about 3 years of waiting for it to cool. Then I was like....."it was that simple....😲😲". Been straining it hot for the last 4 years. Go figure lol
Use a broad spectrum preservative like germall or germaban and use it at a rate of 1 -2 % once it's 140° or lower. Then it won't need to be refrigerated.
I recently started using aloe vera in my pre poo routine and LOVE IT!! I want to start using aloe vera more, finding your videos have been a blessing, thank you for sharing!!
Thank you for sharing. Because where I live does not sell gels fit for curly hair in any of the shops, I have to make my own gels and I'm always looking for extra tips and tricks to make it better. Hey! I’m pretty new to your page, and deff subscribed and love the content. Can you make a video making the Eden Coconut Shae Control Edge Glaze? I want to say it is one of your videos already but it is a bit thicker and firmer in holding hair. I use it for my locs and it does work but sometimes it’s super hard to find for me where I live, plus I would love to make it if it’s possible. Thanks for the content!
Errrr! THE PLANT! 🌿🌵 YOU CHEAT! HAHAHA! 😂🤣 I did an experiment. On a whim, i chose to do a TH-camrs mix of Flaxseed, Okra, Aloe Vera, but the only thing I did different (Because I ALWAYS HAVE TO VEAR AWAY FROM AN ORIGINAL RECIPE🙄🤭😄) is add Red Onion Juice. Never tried it that way before, but hoping for a great outcome with lots of hair growth! 😉
Do you have anything that would give me a temporary straight effect? I am currently natural or curly but do wish to have my hair straight from time to time and yes I would love to see how you use the aloe vera gel in your hair.
I really enjoy watching your videos. Very pleasant. This one was a bit funny. Your other videos that I've seen were more serious. Lol Thank you Elise 🌺
Yes it could work for that - I'd recommend applying just a small amount on wet or damp hair because it's a water based gel. Alternatively, you could make my Shea Butter edge control which is balm based, so can be applied to straight hair wet or dry: th-cam.com/video/jm7Zqk8cq50/w-d-xo.html 😊
Hi Elise, just wanted to know how exactly do you use this gel please? Do you use it on top of a leave in? And if so do you apply anything ON TOP OF the gel? It’s not like your regular thick store bought gels, so I’m assuming you use an oil or something else on top, so please share as I’m dying to make it and try it. Thanks hun.
Preserving gels made from fresh plants are tricky because rather than a liquid, the gel has solid matter that can get in the way of the preservative thoroughly mixing in. For a gel that will last longer, I'd recommend using store bought organic aloe Vera or flaxseed gel that will already include a preservative and then adding in additional ingredients. Thank for watching! 😊💚
Alva Siah , maybe strain out as much of the solid matter as possible and use a preservative 🤷🏾♀️ Give it a try but remember to always check and smell before use 😉
Heyy ellise thank you so much for all these recipes I v been trying to make gel by using the exact same contents but then i v been facing problems with the consistency of gel. Its almost liquidy....can you please tell me what went wrong??
You probably didn't boil it for long enough. Make sure you boil it for 7-8 minutes and then allow it to cool completely with the seeds still in the gel (30 min-1 hour) this will allow the gel to thicken up perfectly every time you make the gel!
It's difficult to preserve gels made with fresh aloe or flaxseeds, but you can try my new hair gel recipe that has a preservative: th-cam.com/video/3mVkDwUIvOc/w-d-xo.html 😊
Hi Elise, I was wondering if this whole recipe could be used as the water phase of a gel with a higher percentage of carrier oils; obviously with an emulsifier to stabilise the product. What do you think? Cheers in advance x
That's a good thought - but natural gels like aloe & flaxseed are notoriously difficult to preserve because they're not liquid and even after blending still retain solid botanical matter which limits the effectiveness of a preservative. Store-bought gels tend to be made from powders that are then added to the water phase, it's great that your thinking about this though! 💚
WholeElise , thanks for the feedback; great points about the solid matter in natural gels. Do you think it’s something that might be solved with something like cheesecloth? I only ask because Lush use such natural gels in some of their products and I would love to do the same because of the moisture retention and the nutrient profiles of linseed and chia 😉. I feel an experiment coming on ... Once again, please keep the lovely recipes coming; you have a lovely delivery ❤️
