@@Powerland56 could be, but I was a bit tired of searching for perfect settings all the time. I kept my xt3 and love it so much, but went for something much easier for setting and much more effective when it comes to af for fast moving subjects.
@@Powerland56Why would anyone want to spend eons of time setting up AF?! I certainly don’t have to on my Sony platforms. I actually want to switch to Fuji, but Fuji keeps encouraging me not to. AF is the key criminal consistently on a multitude of forums. I was so tired of trying to massage the AF out of the Z6ii that I ditched Nikon… had used them for decades, looks like they finally have their 3D figured out again. Truly hoping Fuji figures it out, it’s certainly costing them sales.
thank you for this I’ve been searching for an honest video. I’m currently shooting with an a7iv and the Fuji system has been tempting me. Love the colors of the Fuji and the film sims seem interesting for when you don’t want to shoot raw but I’ll stick with my Sony till this is ironed out.
@derJackistweg My Z6II had better AF. So no, you don't have to spend more. You can spend quite a bit less and get better AF. Sonys 10yr old cameras have better AF. Cheap used. For $2500 the XH2s should've had amazing AF out of the box. You know, like Fuji claimed. They were wrong. And they've made it worse with firmware upgraded. It's the processor. It's not good enough. Nikon didn't have amazing AF until they developed the 7th Gen chip.
@@withoutpassid No and of course it does NOT. Just because of business reasons! WHY would any company build the "perfect product"? Because they don´t want to sell any new one? A6700, is a nice one to make fotos. IF it would be better I could have saved a lot of money, but sadly it isn`t. For Video it is far behind my X-H2s, because: - very bad rolling shutter - NO 10 bit ! - X-H2s makes 14 (!!!) stop of dynamic range in F-Log2 - no 4K 120 - no 4K 60 W/O crop - no video RAW - overheating ! - 2 card slots and one CF express B - Full size HDMI - way better viewfinder And of course the X-H2s makes hell of a lot more frames / s, if one needs that. But: If you are happy with a A6700, go for it.
I shoot portraits with the X-T5, and basically half of my shots are focused somewhere totally different than the green box was locked on. Even if it focuses on the eye, it would not focus on the iris, but the eye lashes, so if I come close to the model with an F/1.4 then don't expect the AF to do what you want it to do. Zoom lenses are the worse (16-55 in particular) and I get it that the camera decides where to focus, but it sends back signal to the lens that processes the information, and also it's different with every lens how much and what kind of (focal plane) light hits the sensor, so some lenses are still gonna be better at AF than others. I have Fuji's top portrait lens, the XF90, and it's still just meh. I prefer to just focus myself with one small focus point, but that's hard to do when your model is actually moving :P so well... you guys wanted vintage film photography feel? You got it! :D Anyway, I still love the colours and the film-like texture of the photos, so I'm trying to learn shooting like if I was in the 90's, but maybe one day I might give up.
@@Disruptor23 the X-T5 has it's pros, you'll love the colour grading and the nature of the photos, menu system is easy to use, quite light... but the focus is not up to 2024 standards.
@@dandanu2526 cause I couldn't find anything else that have good enough colour science, so I cannot get the results I want with a Sony/Canon/Nikon/etc... I'm left with no choice but over-shooting, so I get the good shots. Every 30-40th shots are faulty tho, and it's after a body swap under warranty. The official Fuji service could not explain the random blurry shots, cause it wasn't motion blur, looked more like if the IBIS was jerking the sensor randomly.. (even at 1/8000) that was not a problem with my X-E4... so idk... gave up thinking about it, just trying to go around the problem
Wow! A brutal, but honest and thorough, take down! And the best part is that you did all the troubleshooting that Fuji should be doing, in order to find the root of the problem for them. If I were running that company I would hire you and make you the lead quality engineer on the AF development team. If you continue to make videos like this, your channel will grow quickly. Thanks, man....I just subscribed.
Other issue that I will probably make a video about is the way camera communicates with the lens, It does that in steps, in a very low frequency. Thats why the steps are always seen and looking awful. Thanks
Hey Man, I appreciate you doing this video. I hear everyone comments but you show your test, not sure how that is user error with a detail explanation if they do not have this issue. I have a LUMIX S5 IIX and looking at this Camera for my next purchase. I will have to rent this and try it for myself. Thanks again.
ya all want details? I use the x-h2s with the 23mm 1.4 LM lens, and even at f /4 I have the same performance after the 6.0 update so put down your pitchforks.. Tracking was extremely dissapointing endeavour for me as well, and while I was happy with the AF before the update (mostly), I find it worse right now. For the sake of argument, even if only our cameras got worse after the update (which is not the case, I see people in X-H2s groups every day with the same complaint), it's still a fujifilm software issue, so stop defending them, maybe? I get it, I love my X-H2s as well, but a shitty behaviour is a shitty behaviour!
And a shitty brand is a shitty brand. Giving them money just enforces their awful behavior. Hoping they get bought out since nothing good will ever come out anyway
Thank you for having the courage to post the reality of the Fuji cameras. I have the GFX100 II and XT5 and they both do exactly what you’ve shown. It’s incredibly frustrating. I bought a Sony A7R5 out of frustration and it’s miles ahead of Fujifilm for AF.
i am listning a lot of complaints about fuji autofucus, on youtube, but how some prefessional photographers able to take sharp photos and they even shot a perfect wedding videos. how come.?
Dang, But Sonys colors are horrible and its like a auto machine without soul. I get what yall saying but its about you learning to walk around it and handle it and a bit more of an effort and become one with the camera. Sony is amazing, but its soulless, but for sports yes, no doubt.
@@isaacxvasquez Sony colors aren't bad, that's just a myth if you actually compare it directly with other camera brands. Soulless is just another typical cliched and ignorant criticism of Sony without actual direct comparisons. Every camera processes colors differently by software design and you have the freedom to change it to whatever you want
I was quite happy with the autofocus system on my X-S20. Since the 2.01 firmware update, many of my photos are out of focus. THAT WASN'T THE CASE BEFORE. Like you, green autofocus boxe on the eye, but when I review the photo on my computer, it's not pin sharp on the eye (when it's not blurry). Worse still, it now finds 'eyes' in the ears, in the middle of the hair on the head, or in the background even if there's no-one there. This could happen occasionally before, but it was rare. One more time it wasn't the case with firmware 1.20. I was expecting top-of-the-line autofocus with this so-called "major update". I'm very disappointed and even upset. HOW CAN I GO BACK TO THE OLD FIRMWARE? WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.20? Thanks in advance for your help!
@@edvard2942 The X-H2s and the X-S20 have the same processor (X-Processor 5) and the details of the firmware update are exactly the same for the autofocus part. Your camera's autofocus system worked better before the update, didn't it?
@@Filmin1235 I bought the camera with 5.01 or something like that, I tought that it will be very usable autofocus after all "youtube reviews". It was bad even on 5.0 firmware. But I bought it exactly when the 6.0 was announced in february. Hear me out , The tracking still sucked , video af still sucked. People with 5.0 firmware are telling me that the eye-hand issues is not present so this "bug" that could be fixed is in the 6.0 but yet still, tracking af in both stills and especially video is the horrendous. In video you can't have one single smooth transition (focus pull) , it works in steps and its slow. The best video AF tracking is actually the 40fps burst in photo with the "AREA" 425points at 10:45 , the af in that mode it is really like "SONY"
I switched from Canon DSLR 60D to Fujifilm X-T1 & X-T3 at the time but very dissapointed experiences on autofocus! I sshot my friends while motobike trips (touring)… the focus almost 90% failed… I have already heavily invest on prime fujifilm native lens… finally in this year 2024 I switch to Sony APSC camera A6600
All the comments are proving yet again that there is no such thing as set it and forget it in Fuji land. The user who has problems is the problem. No, Fujifilm AF is still behind.
All i experience is that no matter what your focus area is small or zone, the face tracking/recognition always jumps outside the focus area box. Its sucks
Hey man, great video! I have watched most of the Fuji related reviews/videos in YT and you are the only one that shows the proper test methodology and the issues. Great explanation and presentation skills! Keep up the good work! I was considering testing Fuji, but this video is an eye opener.
I was mad at you for claiming that before watching the video, but then i tried what you did at 07:00 with my xh2s with a 16mm and yeah, you're right. They messed up big time on this update. Hope the latest firmware with reala ace can fix this. Do you know if there's a way to downgrade the firmware? I think you should email this video to Fujifilm, they've got to do something.
Hello, As you can see I am mad too haha because I really liked the camera and wanted to be "ok" in af, not the best. But it is not ok , false focus in photos , Not one single transition in video is smooth, everytime jittery or stopping in the middle of transition without any reason. No you cannot downgrade.
I’ve just got round to testing the update. I used it with the 18mm f1.4 and Viltrox 27mm 1.2. Took my kids to play football and then the park. It tracked both photos and video very very well, fast paced running and swinging on swings. Looking at your test, you seem to be moving the camera back and forth very quickly, too quickly and especially too quick for 250 shutter speed if it’s photos. I have an fx3 and the focus is better but not night and day.
Yeah I get that. It does do some weird things occasionally and I think a a tweak with a firmware update will stop that. I hope so because Fuji are getting very close to canon and the latest Nikons. Sony always win in regards to continuous AF of course. Fingers crossed for another tweak with the firmware.
Thanks a million for exposing Fuji camera focus deficiencies. I was thinking about purchasing Fuji, but decided to wait and see if there is any significant improvement.
TLDW: OP reveals at 14:18 that fujifilm uses 104 very spaced out focus points in continuous subject/box/area tracking autofocus tracking instead of 425 (available on single autofocus and small single set point continuous focus) which causes major subject tracking issues as the camera jumps drastically from one of the 104 points to the next despite displaying "tracking" confirmation.
The only very reliable and modern feeling AFC is in that "AREA" with 425 af points, I can shoot bursts of 30fps (video) and it will look almost like a sony autofocus footage asa you can see on 11:20 , THe only mode that uses 425 af points looks very good. The question is, This XH2S has the same 425 and uses only 117 mosty just like the XT3 from 2018.
If you think that the lens is the one causing the behaviour when the camera focuses on the hand and tell you that the eye is in focus I am sorry but you dont understand my video.
@@dda.visuals I dont answer questions about the lenses and settings because I am sick of people saying that the lenses are the problem when it clearly isn't.Canon , sony , even panasonic will focus better than this with every lens every made for their systems. Check out other videos with people using latest fujifilm lenses and still have the same issues. Check Tom Wright ,Jared Z also Eddy Summers videos about AF tracking.
The lens truly impacts the AF speed. Just as you said, the camera determines it is focused, but in real world, only move the optical elements to adjust the focus, that mean if the lens focussing is slow (move the optical elements front/back slowly ) even the camera tracking the subject successfully (camera guess the correct focus length ) but the lens is moving slowly, and you moving again, finally you also can’t aim the object. Why I know that, because when I use my xt3 + xf 100-400 for bird photography, it clearly let me know the focusing between the camera and lens is not at the same time (not synchronized), I feel the lens is slower than the camera detection.
I agree that some lenses are faster than others but please explain the performance at 11:13 with 425 af points. It did a very good job. I purposely moved fast in all my test to show you how bad it is. The test with with fixed "area mode" worked like a charm , So the lens was fast enough. After that with the subject tracking mode or tracking box was very bad.
@@edvard2942425 points mean whole screen…in the green box, sorry😢 And tracking is a little bit tricky, my xt3 it only track the white box (when you move the green box you can see some white box) that mean if nine white box in the green box, the system only tracking that nine white box…if the eye’s between the white box, it can’t aim them😂I haven’t new model, I don’t know new model is changed or not.
Thank you so much for this video. I shoot with Fuji X-T200 with XC 15-45mm and Sigma 56mm 1.4....and this exact same issue exists in my camera too...for some time I thought it's because I'm using a cheaper Fuji camera or maybe because of the third party lens but looking at your tests and some other videos... I'm now convinced that this issue exists across all Fuji cameras. I've now decided to slowly shift towards Sony.
I took the effort, watched the video more than once and read all the comments below until today. To say it in advance, I'm a photo hobbyist with some semi professional tasks sometimes. The reason why I'm interested in your video is because I'm thinking about switching from Sony to Fuji because of the 'fun factor' as well as the 'famous Fuji colors'. Thus, your findings are important for my decision, so thank you for the effort you took with all your experiments. And that is what brings to my perspective, which I would like to add to all the discussions. What you did is an experiment. And to be recognized with the results of an experiment the experimentalist has to make the conditions, under which the experiment had been done, official. Why ? To enable other experimentalist to reproduce the findings in their own laboratory/environment. This is the (perhaps directly after the first rule, which is to be honest) the second important rule in experimental science. In order to be recognized by the community, you have to open up the details of your experimental setup. In cases where the author refuses to do so, there will be no serious journal willing to publish any article about what you were doing. So the question arising to me is, is it your intention to get seriously recognized by others with your findings or not ? If yes, you won't get around telling your specific camera settings as well as the exact lense types you used. End of comment at that point. But I will also comment on the question, whether or not a lens is one of the decisive components for AF performance. As far as I understand AF technology, the general layout of such an AF system is a control loop, in which both, the camara processor with its software as well as the lens are taking part. The lens is not only the component, which reacts on what is coming as a steering signal from the processor. There is also a feedback from the lens, because the processor gets its informations through the lens. In such a system (and I constructed some of these feedback loops in my professional life) the most important parameters are the time constants of the different components. If these doesn't much in some certain range, the feedback loop isn't working properly. The usual symptoms in this case is either that the system starts to oscillate or that it reacts much to slow. That doesn't mean necessarily that this is the reason for the bad Af performance in your experiment. Frankly I even don't think so, because it can't explain the fact that the camera notoriously focuses on things outside of the 'green' eye-af-box. But what it means is that the lens with its own time constant (AF speed) is an important ingredient within the AF feedback loop and must not be disregarded. Finally I very much hope that you are willing to share your experimental setup (all the parameters) with the community, in order to enable the reproduction of your results. In this case one can even think about making the results available to the Fuji R&D department to help improving their AF-systems.
You took a time to watch the video and also you're saying that the lenses are the problem or settings, Lens or lens speed is not decisive in a person staying still and the camera focusing on other things that it shows you will focus. I dont care if any "journal" recognize me or post my stuff, I did already 4 videos on this topic , latest one with the best fuji lens. And also compared it with a cheap chinese lens. Results were the same, People who are not seeing that the lens in not the issue, and the settings is not the issue, dont understand how a camera AF system works. And with your comment you showed that too.
@@edvard2942Ok, it was an attempt to bring the discussion back to a common sense. But it was my guess anyway that you will react in your usual way. As far as my above question is concerned, I've now learned that your intention is not to bring the community any further. As you prefer, you won't get any counter-talk from my side. Have a nice day !
The funny part is that my old X-S10 keeps the focus better on the eye than demonstrated in this video. It doesn't lose the eye if you bring the hand in the frame, even near the eye. I was looking to buy an X-H2S at some point because I like Fuji colors and the feel of the cameras, and of course, because I already have some lenses, but after seeing this, I don't know. That S5IIX is starting to look like a good choice. I just hate the idea of buying full-frame lenses from scratch. And, of course, the rolling shutter is horrible on that camera.
Now, I'm curious about a few things (I've been a Fuji user for 8 years, all the way from the X-T10 to the X-H1 & X-T3, which were the last cameras I could afford to buy, so I'm fully aware of the advantages and limitations of the brand). I noticed you used a pretty nervous continuous AF setting (since it's pretty jumpy). Personally, I always use it in the following subject settings (ae keeping the focus on the subject despites stuff coming in frame in front of it), and while still not perfect, I've had much better results on my X-T3 than you with your X-H2s. Have you tried that mode ? Also, you made fun of the youtube videographers AF tracking test of bobbing their heads up and down and in donut... Only to follow it by an equally invalid test of moving the camera back and forth ! When you do that, of course the camera's AF will suck, as the entire frame is moving. That's not just Fuji, that's pretty much any camera on the market ! If you want to make an accurate test, you have to keep the camera still and have the model walk move closer and further from the camera, so that the camera only has to focus on the model's variation of depth, and not the entire environment. Also, for the upteenth time, which specific lenses have you used ? Sure, the camera's computer is the brain to tell the camera where to focus, but if you think the lens doesn't make a difference in where it focuses, I beg to differ. I don't remember which lenses as it was years ago, but I do remember I've had some wild variations of quality of focus selection by keeping the same camera and slapping some different lenses on it. So all in all, funny video, good production value and great lighting, we can all see you know how to use a camera and your lights, but also quite a couple parts in your rant that are done in pretty bad faith for the clickbait (I mean, for us Fuji users, we've known for years their AF is less than stellar, no need to beat a dead horse. If we keep using it, it's because they've been excelling at a lot of other things, like colors, film sims, ergonomy, and just the fun factor of having in our hands a camera that actually feels like a camera of old and not a mini-computer). To each their own preferences.
@@edvard2942 I wouldn't say none of them are valid. Again, I'm a long time Fuji user, so I do have quite a good experience and idea of what are the pros and the limitations of the system. I don't need you to tell me that I'm wrong in all of them. You can have some bad experience with the brand and be all smug as you like (its your channel, after all) but ignoring (and openly making fun of) other people's advices who have been using the system for longer than you and have already been through this entire debate of Fuji AF bad VS Sony good (really, the whole debate feels like 2017 again) is not gonna take you very far ahead in time. It's a good clickbait, though. And clickbaits are, well... clickbaits. Eventually, they're short lived. Have fun reinventing the wheel 7 years after everyone is done debating about it.
I have 3 mirror less cameras and 4 DSLRs and Fujifilm Xh2S is one of them. I prefer this body along with Fujifilm 150-600 mm zoom lens for wildlife photography. I several times contacted service center and reported out of focus problem during long distance photography but they ignored it. Lastly I showed them by using Nikon f mount sigma 150-600 lens along with adaptor f to fx mount. Now, they convinced and took my set for repairing. I don't know whether it can be repaired because it is a manufacturing defect. In each and every cases Canon R10, which I carry as a supporting camera, saved me in several occasions. I purchased Fujifilm set only for its light weight. Are Fujifilm company misguiding us? All reviews I have seen online, are got up case?
Absolute f*cking legend! I own the X-H2s and 6 lenses 3 red badge and my experience is exactly this! I just got an a7Rv and an a9 III for testing and I can tell you, I completely agree with you. Shot 10.000 images yesterday at a football match (120fps a few times) and around 10 of them was missed focus…food for thought
@@therealjimmy5411 ok… the A7IV would also run AF circles around the X-H2 lineup… but I’d rather have the X-H2’s EVF & LCD any day over the A7IV”s (and at $500 less). My point is that you don’t always get what you pay for. A7IV is at price parity with the X-H2S.
Same, but inverse. I owned used and sold 3 sony cameras that I use in parallel with my xh2s and xs20. They all were disappointing. The color science, lack of cf express type b, no 6k, no open gate, no 4k120 was just too much of a hassle compared to my beloved xh2s that was a beast. Autofocus was good, but that's only what Sony cameras have, and I'm pulling my own focus most of the time anyway. So let's not try to act like autofocus is the greatest feature a camera can have, it's not. Learn to use the camera first, abuse its strength, cope with its weaknesses, if you can't get the results you want and you are sure that everything you could, then you sell them and you make a video. Not before, and not for autofocus.
@@tuzuharurakutu allow me to help you, my issue is not autofocus, my issue is seeing 1 piece of info such as eye is in focus and then going home and finding out that 4 out of 10 shots are actually focussed somewhere else. @@cohoonatube I don't give a shit what the image looks like in the EVF, I care about what the shot looks like on the on the card. Great review, thanks! You had me rolling with the Hand / Touch-Tracking section, that was hilarious! Truly hope Fuji figures this out, it’s had as large an impact on their sales as it did with Nikon’s Z platform. Looks like 3D finally set Nikon on the right path, hoping Fuji finds some secret Godzilla Kaizen to fix their AF woes… it’s really what’s holding me back from buying into the system (On A7IV currently). Sub’d.
Just got an a6700 because I like smaller apsc lenses, made some luts to have close fuji colors , and the AF is like 10 years ahead with the same 3rd party lens stm motors. The lens is behaving very very very different in terms of how much the motors work to constantly track your subject.
@@edvard2942 That seems to be the general consensus from multi-platform users. As a former Nikon shooter though, there is just something lacking with Sony Cameras… I just never really want to pick it up (purely subjective). I’m looking at the A7RV in part to use it’s 26mp Crop function to either extend the reach for current lenses or acquire some smaller glass. I know it’s just cropping, but for various wildlife shots I enjoy seeing the composition live vs. cropping in post. 26mp is fine for 90% of my needs. The A7RV also has the LCD/EVF rez I miss on my A7iv (which the Fuji X-H’s have). I’m still going to rent an X-H2 and a couple lenses I’m interested in to see if it could work. The X Series ecosystem would be such a great system for my entire family.
The lens can be an issue if the firmware on the lens is not compatible, What lena are you using with which version of firmware. I have the same camera and i do not have your problem, I have just done the test.
It's not the lens, I've tested on a range of Fujifilm and Viltrox lenses - all with the latest firmware - and my X-H2S AF is significantly worse than it was before the update. My X-S20 performs much better than it now.
Can you do I Nikon Z8 / Z9 review? I wanna sell all my fuji gear and switch to nikon, this shit is unaccaptable. Had the XH2s since release, and it only gets worse.
I can assure you, the Z8 is WAY better with AF than the XH2s, XH2 or XT5. I owned all three along with most of the newest Fuji lenses. I use the Z8 with a host of old F lenses adapted with the FTZII and a few Z lenses. The AF is astonishing compered to the Fuji cameras. Also better low light and IQ INMHO.
@@christianschug8044 very reliable. Ironically it's extremely good with video. Especially after the 2.0 update. I use it for photography and the subject tracking is way more reliable than Fujis.
For some of your issues it seems like Fuji is using the 'product' mode of the X-S20 in VLOG where the focus automatically focuses on what is nearer the camera. However, down below someone said you can set AF to auto or front.
I do still photography only. When I bought my xt5 af was really bad. Would show you in camera it got the eyes in focus, birds, what not, but when actually reviewing the photos on pc they were clearly oof. I remember I went out to the park and there was a pigeon few metres away, activated animal detect, the camera was convinced that the af was on the bird, but when reviewed, out of 4 photos, all of them appeared to be back focused by couple of metres at least. Lens was 16-80. Then the update came, now it's miles better, but sometimes would still have the confirmation box on the eye of a subject when in reality the camera was focusing on the cheek or even on the other eye. So it's not that bad now, probably 1-2/10, which I find acceptable for what I shoot, my family events. However, if I was to shoot fast moving subjects I'd choose something else in an instant
Also about the new update , Honestly I think its luck if you have your subject in focus in continuos afc , Those new firmwares messed up the af even more.
@@edvard2942 haven't updated to the latest. Depends on the lens a lot. So viltrox 13 1.4 and sigma 56 1.4 are fine, rarely missing focus in afc. A bit worse is the viltrox 23 1.4. sigma 30 1.4 is okish, then the worst to say is the viltrox 75 1.2, but then again I use that lens exclusively for portraits, so low continuous does the job. Spray and pray type. I always shoot afc, I'm happy overall, but it could be improved.
I have the X-T4 and never noticed problems like this, but I consider upgrading to an X-H2 so I stumbled upon this video. I just tested the "hand in front of face" thing with eye-detection, with 117 and 425 focus points (in settings you can switch, which you want to use) and in neither mode I got a problem. As long as it sees my face and shows a green box, it is in focus (at least mostly). Is this an X-H2S specific thing, is it in all new cameras or what is going on??
I have only ever used area focus when using fujifilm. I realised very quickly that Fujifilm need to rework their autofocus from the ground up. I have managed to use my fujifilm cameras for some professional work but no more. I own an x-s20 for fun but all my pro work is done on my canon R6 an R6 Mark II
Sharing my experience here. 2yrs ago, I tested the XT-4 on a model / fashion shoot and the single point AF feels ok but... AF-C without subject tracking was completely whack. I thought my technique was bad after all, I only ever shot Canon for the last 12yrs, never a Fujifilm. A couple of months later, I tried the XH-2 (non-S) but the results were nearly the same, subject tracking back then was completely whack... it couldn't stay on a subject even with minor movement in the scene. Non-subject tracking AF-C was the same as the XT-4. That surprised me since on most TH-cam videos, they say the AF on Fujifilm cameras are fine... fortunately, I took it to myself to test all the major brands before deciding to switch to Sony. If I just watched TH-cam videos, I really might have gone to Fujifilm and got stuck with a system that I could barely use.
i am listning a lot of complaints about fuji autofucus on youtube, but how some prefessional photographers able to take sharp photos and they even shot a perfect wedding videos. how come.?
That is exactly how we do it, I take 2,000 photos per wedding and 3 or mores shots of the same pose on studio sessions, I am getting tired of this @@andyp5693

Cannot verify this with my X-Hs. Jerred Z in this video normally uses release priority. That is wrong. Some people forget to set energy on boost, so AF is creapy. Some people dont know, that AF+MF on sets focuspriority to releasepriority. And so on… . Its a fault in settings, I think. My X-H2s has the right settings and works fine in this situations, in both photo and videomode. What are your settings?
Even with focus priority the camera will focus on the hand. There's something disconnected between what you see on the screen(af boxes) and what camera is focusing on. It does not do this constantly.
Alien technology! LOL. You made my day today, man! I own an X-H2. And I have the same focusing issues. But I had no idea it was extraterrestrial technology :)
I have an XH2s and I love it, but I see exactly this on wildlife photography/videography all the time. Focus box over the bird but something else in focus. I've even seen this even on Fuji's own videos. It also loses focus if a bird in flight flies in front of a tree or something else in the background. If the box knows what to focus on, why doesn't the camera focus on it? I feel like there's something fundamentally wrong with Fuji's AF. Luckily I quite enjoy using mf...
Thank you for your courage. I was hesitating to buy an XH2-S soon (I currently have an X-T3) to take wildlife photos (birds in flight among other things). The number of blurred photos with the X-T3 is significant. I was hoping to solve this problem with the XH2-S but it doesn't seem to work any better. The large number of XH2-S owners who, like you, have reported this problem means that there can be no doubt about the veracity of the problem. I hope that Fuji will take users' complaints seriously, otherwise many, like me, may turn to other brands when reliable AF is a must! For my part, I'm putting on hold any idea of buying the XH2-S until I see whether FUJI reacts or not... Thanks again for your work
At the beggining when I've posted this video everyone was telling me I am an idiot and dont know how to use the camera, And look what is happening now.
face detect box does mean that camera tells "we know there is face" it is not "we focused there". face detect focus is just useful for photo only. when eye detect focus on for video, focus wobbles a lot. so i didnt use eye decect af for video with xh2s your video is very helpful and fun kkk
Facts. I have an X-T3 but my next camera won't be from Fujifilm, they're just not improving. It's also funny to see commenters blaming the lens for being too slow while it actually loses focus very fast when hand covers the face.
After seeing this video i have tried to do the same thing with my xh2s with the viltrox 56 f1.4 that is the brightest lens i own (i have not already update the firmare) and after some test i can say for sure that my xh2s does not beahve like yours, if my model put her hand near the face but closer to the camera my focus remain on the eye, i can tell it for sure, i have tried multiple times and check the clip at the pc, even if the model put her hand neraly over the eye but closer to the camera the eye remain perfecly in focus . So there are two explanations 1- your xh2s is defective so you need to send it back to fuji to be replaced (i think is the correct one) 2- you have some af setting that is wrong.
It does this with every lens, again The lenses are not the ones deciding what is in focus , but you need to move the hand a bit around the face and it will catch the hand but still tell you the eye is in focus. It is not defective. I tried to make it behave like this to prove a point, that is untrustworthy
I did exacly that and i have not found any issue, It sticks to the Eye perfectly. So or you live on another timeline different from us or something Is wrong, so maybe try with another xh2s and stop defendig yourself with the same answer again and again about the lens because i don't give a fuck about what Lens you use, honestly, i olny care about the fact that i did EXACLY the same as you did and find conpletely different Resaults
Firmware issues can be very specific to the copy of the camera and your custom settings. I've had terrible AF issues since the update and Fujifilm's 19th century customer support have advised me to initialise the camera. I plan to do that in a couple of days. Basically, all Fujifilm customers are Beta testers for their firmware these days.
@@kein4072 yes you are right. this guy giving the same answer again and again about the lens. he should try another xh2s body for test. some prefessional photographers able to take sharp photos and they even shot a perfect wedding videos. how come.?
@edvard2942 Did you try changing Release Priority to Focus Priority in AF-C? I had exactly same issues, camera would focus on hands, fingers, or anything in front of the face, even though the green box on the LCD screen was consistently sticked to the eye. However, I think the deciding factor here is the "Release Priority" versus "Focus Priority" setting. Changing from Release Priority to Focus Priority eliminates this issue immediately. At least in my case. This does not mean that the firmware isn’t flawed. I believe it is. The X-H2S shouldn’t focus on a hand while displaying a sticky green box around the subject's eye.
Hello , Same thing happens if release is to focus priority , Camera is thinking the eye is in focus. ( It always doing this but its easy to replicate the behaviour on 6.0)
So many people asking for the AF-C setting on your X-H2s, why don’t you show us? The most important thing is to clarify what’s setting on your camera before those test.
Because there are irevevant . I tried all AFC settings (Sensitivity from lowest to highest number , Speed from lowest to highest number ) All pre-installed custom modes from fujifilm like the one that says (Ignore objects - or something like that) , It is not the settings! Explain how the settings could affect the test with the pillow arround the 9:00
Same thing is happening ( The camera is not doing this constantly ) Camera sometimes will focus on the hand with box eye and focus priority. But how do you explain the same thing in video where there's not a setting like that.
@@edvard2942 interesting. I’ll play with the settings myself. Whenever I film talking head with face detection on; the camera doesn’t focus on an object in front of my face unless I use area with the box in the middle. Multi doesn’t really help in this situation with face detection mode on. I also have the af speed to negative 3-4 and sensitivity to +4 to avoid the “pulsing” effect.
The only thing that gives me hope is that the XT3 continuous focus is decent and doesn't have the inaccurate eye on/eye off issue. So, it may be the firmware.
@@edvard2942 I got decisions to make...is my XH2 camera worth keeping as a manual focusing body with great IQ? its got 1642 shutter count...Brand new. I am pretty sure price will go down after non successful november update...
You made me laugh @3:00 but you are 100% right on that. I have watched bunch of youtubers that do that. I noticed that they test the AF tracking with a stepped down aperture and wide lenses. However, I still love fujifilm because of the colors.. I hope they will revamp their AF soon..
I would love a video about Panasonic S5II autofocus for photography. I'm leaning towards Panasonic but if the autofocus is on the same level of Fuji then the change would have no sense at all. Thank you! Excellent video! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
It is impossible for the panasonic AF to be like the state of the fuji nou. From what I saw on other reviewers, the autofocus system on S5II (smoothness, accuracy, lack of stepping, lack of hunting) I can 100% be sure that is good. Maybe has some minor quircks but nothing like the fuji. Fujifilm now is not usable unless you shoot at f4 or higher.
Thanks for making the effort to show this. I called Fujifilm with this issue about a year ago and there was no explanation. It drove me nuts. I went back to Canon.
thanks alot for shareing this... i posted your video yesterday on a big fuji facebook group... it had alot feedback, but was deleted today. there are so much fuji fanboys out there. and yes, im also one. i love fuji since the XT1, XT2, XT3, XH1... bought a whole lenslineup during all the years... but the AF performance was always a big issue for my work at events, where i like to rely on eyeAF tracking. i take fuji just on my private time, with my daughter... but would love to use the expensive lens lineup we have for my daily work as a video and photographer... personally i work with my 15sony bodys... but for a new teammember in our company i thought to invest in the xh2s... she isnt very technical orientated... so to change the AF for every shoot or every lens is not practicable... so we go for a canon R6ii with adapted old EF lenses... we also own alot EF lenses... and are waiting another year for a new fuji where i would love to use also on events. thanks to your video, ... i love your conclusion... fuji should fix it with a complete re-design... focus is the most important stuff. and yes we also worked before with canon und nikon FF without all these goodies... but the sony a9 changed my way to work, i can rely on EYE AF tracking and spend more energy in frameing the shoot, catch the right moment, be aware of the backlight and scenerey in the back... rather then check if its focusing right... and for video with my a7s3... how cool is to have the cam in a gimbal... without a heavy ext display and followfocus system...
It doesn't do this anymore, the "hand detection" , they fixed it with f 7.0 but video af and the overall af is still bad. Was better on fw 1. Check my videos
Really great video, agree with you on all of this and on Gerald Undone and Camera Conspiracies, maybe Tony Northrup too, the rest don't seem to go very in depth. Maybe Christopher Frost for lenses but he misses things and doesn't test for very long.
I agree, The ones that dont go very in depth just make the videos for "views" and youtube ad revenue. They just dont test the gear in a real world situations , they do few videos/pictures, tell you their experience after couple of hours with the camera. They dont even search for issues.
I'm using xh2 and 150-600mm lens. It was ok before updating to 4.0. Now, the camera is straggling to focus on a hawk that is around 10 yards. Hope fujifilm stops out sourcing the software department and fixes the issue.
You should post this video on an official Fujifilm forum if they have it or just send it to their support. There is a bigger chance they will fix the problem if they see it. I shoot on Canon R6 but I'm actually planing to replace it with Fujifilm x-s20 (don't laugh). I need something small for travel and Fujifilm is the only brand I've never owned. I was actually aware about the AF issues but it seems the problem is bigger than I thought.
I used to have 2 XT3's and 3 XT4's for video production a few years back. It was always a pain to deal with autofocus. Sometimes I would repeat takes many many times hoping one would not hunt. For live events, all I could do was just keep my fingers crossed. I bought all the lenses. The 18mm f1.4. The 33. I was a firm believer that eventually Fujifilm would have to fix it, but it was getting to the point of being embarrased in front of my clients. After the XH2S release I noticed the same autofocus behavior in all the sample footage online. I finally gave up. I'm shooting all Sony now (4 A7IV and 2 A7S3) and my blood pressure is back to normal. It's all about reliability and peace of mind. Sure, you can get a Sony to misbehave under very special circumstances, but it's very rare.
Btw, in all my years with Fuji the most reliable autofocus I could get was with the Sigmas 18-35 and 50-100 EF mount plus the fringer adapter. And if needed you can mechanically manual focus them unlike AF Fujinons.
What's most unfortunate about all of this is just how far behind Fujifilm really is with its autofocus and its users are somehow convinced that it's just as good if not better than Sony/Canon. This will be the second time I sold an X-H2S camera body and it will be the last. I'm done believing that Fujifilm will ever overcome this limitation and get back to using Fujifilm for what they truly excel at; travel and recreational photography. For that task, the X-T series has always been my preference so I realize now that there is no real reason for me to keep the X-H2S.
i am listning a lot of complaints about fuji autofucus, on youtube, but how some prefessional photographers able to take sharp photos and they even shot a perfect wedding videos. how come.?
modern lenses fuji and also 3rd party , and not the old fuji ones that sound like a RC car. Settings ? Fastest af settings , You can see the rest of them on the screen
Generally I have to agree false autofocus in Fuji still exists, we can have a box in the eyes of face showing that the autofocus working, but it actually does not when we view it from the final screen. But not thinking to jump ship as I am still positive that Fuji will fix it.
My AF-C with XT-5 and 23mm 1.4 LM and 33mm 1.4 LM is better with the new update in photo-mode than before. Touch-Tracking in video mode is far behind my Sonys however in Video-Mode.
If you look closely on my whole talking head (very easy scenario) you will see that 40-50% of the time my face is out of focus , I was using using face-eye detection 0 sens 2 speed Multi.
I find it pretty dubious you’re not willing to share any lens info, most of these comments are folks asking about your lenses and your only response is “it’s not the lenses”. I see you also said a number of times “firmware will not make a lens focus incorrectly” or something similar which is objectively not true. Look at Rokinon/Samyang lenses, you can download a tool to adjust fine AF focus distance which is exactly what you’re claiming doesn’t exist. The fact you’ve even posted an “update” video and still won’t talk about lenses I think says everything here.
I have an XT4 which I mostly use for stills but rarely use eye detection because the algorithm is just rubbish. It detects eyes and faces where it shouldn’t even though there is a clear face in front of it and I get a lot of out of focus images. I mostly stick with the classical box focus and recompose but that’s a luxury one can can afford only in shooting stills. So thanks for the video, I thought I was asking too much from the camera but turns out I’m not alone
This is the same behaviour with manual focus lenses, because yes the camera does the face eye detection. I’d prefer that the box is white or yellow (like on my xt3) if it’s not actually in focus. Only have green when it is
Sorry, I have the XT5 and not even the latest Firmware on it. I did the same tests that you did and I am not able to reproduce the faults you mentioned.
Yes, I agree. I'm primarily a video shooter. Since firmware 3.0, the camera hasn't been the same. Many people may not encounter this problem, as most are shooting human subjects at half or full height, maintaining the same distance, which, with no foreground elements in the frame, this won't really test the camera. The majority of the stuff I shoot won't really encounter this problem. I own both the Fuji XH2s and the Sony A7RV. With the Fuji, once you partially cover the face, it loses focus. This doesn't happen with the Sony. However, I find that if I'm shooting very tight head/detail beauty shots in video, I can't rely on the Sony autofocus either. I have to admit, I love the image from the Fuji more than the Sony (both stills and video), but I don’t see this problem being fixed, as the XH2s is nearly two years old.
thank you, I finally find what the problem is...I am a new learner and thought that was my fault.....after shooting thousands pics and nearly all blurred...
I still use single point af for bird photo, birders will think I’m crazy. It’s what I’m used to but I know Fuji tracking isn’t great so I don’t even bother. For birders many use canon and they are top notch esp for small twitchy birds which is really the gold standard test for tracking.
I don't think single point is crazy for birding, it's the only thing that works for me too. I just took my X-H2 to Costa Rica and bird detect would indicate it was focused on the eye but when I reviewed the images it was rarely actually focused on the eye. So I eventually went back to using single point just like I do with my X-T3.
it was at least more or less possible to use (naturally it could not compare with the autofocus of canon, sony, nikon, etc.). But now with fw 6.00 they broke what was not the best, completely. I don't have enough anger. I have been using Fujifilm cameras for 7 years and I have never encountered such a shame. I bought the H2s in the hope that this camera would finally work as Fujifilm marketers said it would. But no, now, perhaps, this flagship has become a disgrace to the brand. This is very, very, frustrating.
I am on the previous firmware and I could not get my X-H2S to repeat this behavior. I used a 23mm 1.4 (version 1) and tried to closely match your framing. I moved my hand into frame quite close to my eye, and the AF system stayed locked on my eye as advertised by the focus point. I'm not sure what else could be at play, but I'll be avoiding firmware 6.00 for now. One thing I am curious about: Do you potentially have subject detection and eye detection enabled at the same time? Normally, the camera indicates that subject detection is disabled as soon as you turn eye detection on. I wonder if firmware 6 introduced a bug that allows you to have both subject detection and face/eye detection enabled at once. If that is the case, subject detection might simply take priority even though the camera indicates that you are locked onto the eye. I know, it's a total shot in the dark. But I've noticed that subject detection prioritizes near objects just as your camera seems to when you lift a hand into frame.
No , i tried face-eye only with area/multi/zone. If you activate subject detection face-eye is disabled and vice versa. Also the behaviour is the same with animals.
Lens does have an effect on AF. STM vs LM. It’s not 100% dependent but it does play a factor. I too have a the 16-55mm LM lens and it seems to be no different than prior firmware for me. I’ll have to test it more on birds and animals jumping around.
I'm finding that when I have a subject's eye locked and there are other people in the background, the camera will sometimes shift focus to someone in the background. This is for still, I don't do video. AF on my X-H2S is significantly worse than before the update. AF problems on firmware 6.00 are being reported widely. People can have different experiences with the same hardware and firmware. Fujifilm have advised me to initialise the camera, which is pretty much their advice for any behaviour that they don't recognise, via their archaic email support.
This is great work, a proper and critical look at the autofocus that people on TH-cam seldom bother to do. You'll get a lot of hate from people; for some reason they don't like hearing about weaknesses in their cameras but keep making videos anyway and bringing light to a real area that can hopefully be fixed.
It is actually even worst, The camera in this state will almost never focus on the eye even if there is not object blocking part of the face,I tried it, at a low angle camera will focus on the chin.
@@edvard2942 *Sigh* that's a shame. I've got an S5IIX and I do like the camera but it has weird problems with low light AF that I'm hoping Panasonic fix.
@@thekofi1 From what i've seen , panasonic new af is very good with some minor quirks , but nothing like this, this xh2s in this state is behaving like an gh5.
@@edvard2942 Yeah tbf, overall it's quite good; not as good as Sony for video or photography but it's usable. In low light it's not great but hopefully Panasonic can improve in the future...hopefully.
Instead, I think it's actually the lens. When you say it doesn't depend on the lens, even if it has fast autofocus, it can be. Because the lens does not have enough information that the software gives it, or rather it approximates the many information that comes to it from the new software. He can't keep up with the facial recognition or tracking that the software gives him. You should try other lenses. Obviously Fuji when making these updates should make sure to make them work on all Fuji lenses at least, there's no doubt about that, especially when investing money.
Thanks man, I was about to buy this over the Sony a6700 becuase of the dual card slots on the X-H2, but maybe it is better to take the risk on a card failure which is very unlikely - rather than take the risk of having out of focus images and video written to 2 cards, which seems very likely!
"You can hold the focus point in your hand" LOL I switched to Canon 2 years ago for this reason. I actually miss in some ways working with Fuji film styles... but I can't afford 2 systems. I need 1 that works reliably, and it isn't Fuji, regrettably.
Pretty good AF review. I agree with some of the comments suggesting you should add the camera settings and the lens used specs. However, I agree with your findings and more people should be less fanboy and recognise this Fuji behaviour is not acceptable. This have been an issue since I started in fuji (X-T3) and it has never been solved properly. Some of the issues you have shown us are related with the speed of the lens, while others are definitely AF algorithm related.

A6700, is a nice one to make fotos.
IF it would be better I could have saved a lot of money, but sadly it isn`t.
For Video it is far behind my X-H2s, because:
- very bad rolling shutter
- NO 10 bit !
- X-H2s makes 14 (!!!) stop of dynamic range in F-Log2
- no 4K 120
- no 4K 60 W/O crop
- no video RAW
- overheating !
- 2 card slots and one CF express B
- Full size HDMI
- way better viewfinder
And of course the X-H2s makes hell of a lot more frames / s, if one needs that.
You got it! :D
Anyway, I still love the colours and the film-like texture of the photos, so I'm trying to learn shooting like if I was in the 90's, but maybe one day I might give up.

@@dandanu2526 cause I couldn't find anything else that have good enough colour science, so I cannot get the results I want with a Sony/Canon/Nikon/etc... Other issue that I will probably make a video about is the way camera communicates with the lens, It does that in steps, in a very low frequency. Thats why the steps are always seen and looking awful. Thanks

ya all want details?
I agree. After this update the camera wont almost never focus perfecty on what you want in afc.

I'am literally laughing alone at home watching this section
You can't go back, I dont know if this affects XS20 with latest firmware.
I sshot my friends while motobike trips (touring)… the focus almost 90% failed… I have already heavily invest on prime fujifilm native lens… finally in this year 2024 I switch to Sony APSC camera A6600
I was all set to order the XT-5, and now all of a sudden I'm not....
Now that's a review. Entertaining and shows the problems of the camera in detail :D
Now please one for the Sony A7 IV.
All the comments are proving yet again that there is no such thing as set it and forget it in Fuji land. The user who has problems is the problem. No, Fujifilm AF is still behind.
Wondering how you made pictures before. Do you depend on the best AF to make good pictures?
All i experience is that no matter what your focus area is small or zone, the face tracking/recognition always jumps outside the focus area box. Its sucks
Microsoft has the blue screen of death.
Fuji has the green square of death. 😂😂😂
Just sell them off now and switch to real brands
which lenses have you tested for this problem?
I’ve just got round to testing the update. I used it with the 18mm f1.4 and Viltrox 27mm 1.2. Took my kids to play football and then the park. It tracked both photos and video very very well, fast paced running and swinging on swings. Looking at your test, you seem to be moving the camera back and forth very quickly, too quickly and especially too quick for 250 shutter speed if it’s photos. I have an fx3 and the focus is better but not night and day.
I’d like to add, all video and photos were shot wide open
I am not saying that the camera can't ever deliver good pictures or pictures in focus , I was analizing its behaviour about false positive focus.
Yeah I get that. It does do some weird things occasionally and I think a a tweak with a firmware update will stop that. I hope so because Fuji are getting very close to canon and the latest Nikons. Sony always win in regards to continuous AF of course. Fingers crossed for another tweak with the firmware.
They are not close to anything. Stop coping, sell them off and get a real brand
This is an eye opener test.
Give us the settings and lens details.
The lenses or settings are not the ones deciding on what to focus.

A great AF system is able to incorporate the lens speed into its calculations
However, speed does not equate to wrong focus.
Fuji is just generally bad and even fuji shills know it
You are the most honest guy talking about cameras!!!
Excellent video - one of the best reviews.
Can you please do comparison of fuji and Panasonic S5II(x) newest autofocus???
@@stefangoertz9494lol good.
I see that you put a lot of effort in this comment but eventually none of you points are valid.

Shot 10.000 images yesterday at a football match (120fps a few times) and around 10 of them was missed focus…food for thought

@@therealjimmy5411 ok… the A7IV would also run AF circles around the X-H2 lineup… but I’d rather have the X-H2’s EVF & LCD any day over the A7IV”s (and at $500 less).

Great review, thanks! You had me rolling with the Hand / Touch-Tracking section, that was hilarious!
I have the same camera and i do not have your problem, I have just done the test.
It does this with every lens I tested it , wide and zoom , It is not the lens, The lens is not deciding what is in focus.
It's not the lens, I've tested on a range of Fujifilm and Viltrox lenses - all with the latest firmware - and my X-H2S AF is significantly worse than it was before the update. My X-S20 performs much better than it now.

For some of your issues it seems like Fuji is using the 'product' mode of the X-S20 in VLOG where the focus automatically focuses on what is nearer the camera.
However, down below someone said you can set AF to auto or front.
Tried that, same thing , I am 99% sure that it is a bug , but still I think the af system is bad for 2024.
In AF S is working nice, Continuous AF is broken , Try AF S
Also about the new update , Honestly I think its luck if you have your subject in focus in continuos afc , Those new firmwares messed up the af even more.
@@edvard2942 haven't updated to the latest. Depends on the lens a lot. So viltrox 13 1.4 and sigma 56 1.4 are fine, rarely missing focus in afc.

I agree with this. I honestly think the shutter release is not set to focus.
Even with focus priority the camera will focus on the hand. There's something disconnected between what you see on the screen(af boxes) and what camera is focusing on. It does not do this constantly.

Explain how the settings could affect the test with the pillow arround the 9:00
@@edvard2942 they are not irrelevant 🤣
@@AlexanderBischofIt's "Auto Focus"
Curious if you selected FOCUS priority on shutter release or not. That usually solves that issue.
So, it may be the firmware.
xt3 is usable at -1 video speed. Doesnt have this issues

FUjifilm just released a firmware update for the XS20... we will see if they have improved it or broke like this...
what is your (AFC) Speed and sensitivity setting??? (sensitivity +0 )( speed +5 ) ?
Tried every combination, Issue is still present
thanks alot for shareing this... i posted your video yesterday on a big fuji facebook group... it had alot feedback, but was deleted today.
there are so much fuji fanboys out there.
and yes, im also one. i love fuji since the XT1, XT2, XT3, XH1... bought a whole lenslineup during all the years... but the AF performance was always a big issue for my work at events, where i like to rely on eyeAF tracking.
i take fuji just on my private time, with my daughter... but would love to use the expensive lens lineup we have for my daily work as a video and photographer...
personally i work with my 15sony bodys... but for a new teammember in our company i thought to invest in the xh2s... she isnt very technical orientated... so to change the AF for every shoot or every lens is not practicable... so we go for a canon R6ii with adapted old EF lenses... we also own alot EF lenses... and are waiting another year for a new fuji where i would love to use also on events.
thanks to your video, ... i love your conclusion... fuji should fix it with a complete re-design... focus is the most important stuff. and yes we also worked before with canon und nikon FF without all these goodies... but the sony a9 changed my way to work, i can rely on EYE AF tracking and spend more energy in frameing the shoot, catch the right moment, be aware of the backlight and scenerey in the back... rather then check if its focusing right...
and for video with my a7s3... how cool is to have the cam in a gimbal... without a heavy ext display and followfocus system...
I am a fanboy of the colours/screen quality/evf/noise pattern, quality but I am very mad about the af performance.
It could be a lens motor issue. What lens are you using??
A broken lens motor can criticaly focus on the HAND instead of eye ?
Motor issue lmao ok, he literally moves his autofocus box with his hand
What if you disable hand eye detect and manually select eye ? Does it do same ?
It doesn't do this anymore, the "hand detection" , they fixed it with f 7.0 but video af and the overall af is still bad. Was better on fw 1. Check my videos
Is it gets any better? Had any new updates?

Already a V7… Has the processor enough power?
Really great video, agree with you on all of this and on Gerald Undone and Camera Conspiracies, maybe Tony Northrup too, the rest don't seem to go very in depth. Maybe Christopher Frost for lenses but he misses things and doesn't test for very long.
I agree, The ones that dont go very in depth just make the videos for "views" and youtube ad revenue. They just dont test the gear in a real world situations , they do few videos/pictures, tell you their experience after couple of hours with the camera. They dont even search for issues.
@@edvard2942 Totally! I subscribed to your channel and looking forward to more quality content :) - appreciate what you're doing.
I just updated my camera yesterday but it’s only the 4.0 so what I’m I missing out here
XH2s firmware 6.0 / XH2 4.0
What lens or lenses did you use?
What's most unfortunate about all of this is just how far behind Fujifilm really is with its autofocus and its users are somehow convinced that it's just as good if not better than Sony/Canon.
This will be the second time I sold an X-H2S camera body and it will be the last. I'm done believing that Fujifilm will ever overcome this limitation and get back to using Fujifilm for what they truly excel at; travel and recreational photography. For that task, the X-T series has always been my preference so I realize now that there is no real reason for me to keep the X-H2S.
Autofocus should not be the reason why you get or sell a camera. Learn to use it first, show us the results, and then rant.

Thanks for sharing. Great work and conclusions.

Sell it and get a real brand
This is the same behaviour with manual focus lenses, because yes the camera does the face eye detection. I’d prefer that the box is white or yellow (like on my xt3) if it’s not actually in focus. Only have green when it is
😂😂
Sorry, I have the XT5 and not even the latest Firmware on it. I did the same tests that you did and I am not able to reproduce the faults you mentioned.
Its probably the new firmwares, many users have this issue. But still unacceptable
Also the behaviour is the same with animals.
so basically same autofocus as Xt2. thanks for doing this
I dont know about xt2, but I can tell you that it is exactly like the xt3 in terms of accuracy ,hunting , smoothness (lack of)

With AF-C and a 16-55, on video and photos mods, i don't have your problem....
The lens is not deciding what is in focus, The camera does.
@@edvard2942 each lens has firmware and some lenses behave better than others with auto focus as a result.

Same behaviour with 3 different manufacturer including fuji and not old fuji with noisy motors
Thanks man, I was about to buy this over the Sony a6700 becuase of the dual card slots on the X-H2, but maybe it is better to take the risk on a card failure which is very unlikely - rather than take the risk of having out of focus images and video written to 2 cards, which seems very likely!
Never in my 5 years of shooting video have I encountered an sd card failure, and all my cars were cheap ones.
"You can hold the focus point in your hand" LOL
I switched to Canon 2 years ago for this reason. I actually miss in some ways working with Fuji film styles... but I can't afford 2 systems. I need 1 that works reliably, and it isn't Fuji, regrettably.
It seems the AF was better in some of the previous firmware points, than 6.0.
When I bought it had 5.10 firmware. I dont know how it behaved previosly.
Thanks, I tested many lenses, new , LM , 3rd party , it is the same with all of them
