Subscribe ? All new cameras have a very good image these days. I think now its more important the experience using the camera not just image quality an features.
Of course🙌. You forgot about the stupid place on the SD where videos are saved: private->m4root> clip...why?, FX cameras that didn't had shutter angle and other video centric functions when they launched and the slow buffer of most Sony cameras
He dropped a load of crap. He has no work to show and just spitting out his bias opinion. Why would i listen and recommend this guy with no credible work?
I shoot with Sony, Canon, Nikon and Fujifilm. What these reviewers don’t tell you is that all of these brands come up short in one category or more. Out of my 20+ years of doing photography, I have never used AWB. I was taught to shoot with intention. The perfect camera is the camera that you have with you.
For run n gun shooting like I do mostly I use AWB lock , I point the camera to something "white" and lock it, it is more accurate than me setting a kelvin temperature based on what I see on the screen. And when I have a whitebalance card with me I make a custom one.
I do too! AWB is an underappreciated feature in every camera and its getting worse and worse on every iteration of newer cameras! I shoot AWB outdoors and nikon Z6ii gets it right! XT4 gets it bad of there is foliage and Lumix G9ii is garbage with AWB. Newer cameas tend to forget basics. I dont even understand what these manufacturers think anymore! @@edvard2942
NAH. What people like you who claim to have decades of experience and preach spiritual BS like 'the best camera is the one you have with you' don't reveal is how much money you've spent on camera gear. You can't preach about being content on what you have if you're having a collection of your own. That is so hypocritical. If a loyalist told me that, it would hold more weight because at least he sticks to one brand. This is why I highly appreciate this channel because if I'm going to invest in something expensive, I want to know the dealbreakers
@@brownwallet942 if I actually have been shooting for decades, it’s not a claim. It is also not spiritual bs to state that the best camera is the one that you have with you because you miss 100% of the shots that you don’t/can’t take. I’ve seen people take amazing shots with a cellphone that understands the rules of photography and how to manipulate them and I’ve seen people take horrible shots with expensive gear that they don’t know how to use. I’m also not a hobbyist photographer, so any money that I spend on gear is an investment that sees a respectable return. Majority of my years in photography I shot with two bodies which were the Nikon D1X and D300 as I am a Nikon first photographer. The last 8 or so years I started to venture into other brands because I taught beginner photography basics to photographers in my area. A lot of the questions I received were about which camera and brand would be best for them. That is a question that you can’t answer honestly until you have used the other brands. So no, nothing was hypocritical about being diverse in the brands that I use and taking the time to learn the systems so that I could help those that came to me for advice. Having a biased opinion on gear or a brand because you are ignorant to its functions doesn’t make your opinion valuable. All brands suffer from something and to harp on one thing is misleading. Canon has historically had the worst dynamic range of the top brands but ppl still love them. Sony’s color science suffered for years but ppl still loved them. Nikon and Fujifilm have never had the best autofocus but ppl still love them. So like I said, every brand comes up short in one way or another and it’s up to each individual to find out which one checks the boxes that they need and not blindly follow behind the biased opinions of others.
I love these videos. We all know that for the most part all of these cameras are amazing, but it's frustrating when genuine issues aren't talked about or are brushed under the carpet. Keep bringing light to these problems, thank you 🙏🏿
The PAL/NTSC framerate problem probably comes from somewhat lacklustre embedded programming. Whatever decoding pipeline they're using probably lacks the capability to compensate for framerate mismatch between video and screen. You set the camera in PAL mode, the rear screen now has a 50 hz refresh, and suddenly your 60 fps videos are unplayable.
I agreed with you. I think Panasonic S5Xii is much more a low light camera than A7s3. Even FX30 gives you more honest image, and with post denoising it's much better at 12800.
1:00 It seems like Sony A7S3 is still a dual gain design, according to Photons to Photos' Read Noise vs ISO chart, it seemed like the two native ISOs for the A7S3 are 80 and 1600. Sure, it is not a tri-gain design like some people say, but it is still a dual gain, and a pretty good one for iso1600+ shooting.
12800 it is a 2nd native iso. When you record in raw the noise reduction is bypassed and the noise still drasticaly change when you reach 12800. You can avoid this overprocessed look from noise reduction by overexposing when shooting in slog3 or shooting raw with the ninja V.
I figured out how to set a custom white balance on the custom mode but it is so difficult to try to set it that I only did it on one of my custom modes. The rest of the custom modes I just set to 5600 Kelvin. Basically you have to set the camera custom white balance while you are in manual photo mode. Then go back to video mode and select which custom white balance you want, then save that to your custom mode.
I hear fujifilm autofocus and I giggle. Man I love fujifilm so much but that AF is just cancer. It's not even the speed, it's the damn fake green box that says its in focus that kills me everytime. like in real life, slow, old people, I can tolerate but I hate liars.
Yes, the marketing with youtubers that dont say anything bad about the cameras is next level. Remeber ZV-1F ? hahahaha , I was blown away how can youtubers recommend such a toy camera with contrast detect autofocus for "Content creators" hahaha
@@edvard2942 Because they are influences not photographers and ninety nine percent of all the people who will ever see their content don't know or care what auto focus tech is being used as long as it's in focus. Believe it or not most people really don't care about what even the most lax photographers do much less the ones who act like someone having fun with a good enough camera is a tragedy.
I fell for it and bought A7rv after the arrival of the Z8 I sold all the sony and never look back. They quote great numbers for lcd and evf , in reality its way lower. What made me finally leave sony is white balance and skin tone .
Sony marketing is shameless. They are not afraid to go throw banana skins to lens manufacturers like zeiss, sigma, with things like focus breathing correction, ibis performance, and max shutter speed even when e-mount is “open”. The only reason it was open was because they started behind the pack with canon and Nikon at the front
I largely agree with everything you said. I always thought the noise in Sony cameras looked weird in comparison to the more natural looking noise of Canons and Nikons. I always feel like Sony has an extremely skilled technical department developing the sensors and autofocus systems, but the guys doing the front end have not even the slightest idea of what they're doing. The entire system was just a mess from the beginning, and instead of fixing it from the ground up, they just keep adding bodges and keep tacking stuff on top. They would need a fundamental rework of the entire firmware, with all the modern features in mind, that the technical department does a great job of developing.
This. Files look amazing in most areas, but the shooting experience is horrible. Can hardly gauge the accuracy of the exposure on the screen either. Showing over and underexposed when the histogram shows everything to be within margin... Peaking is almost useless too.
There is one more issue that no reviewers write or talk about. It's the matter of taking photos in backlighting. For example, shooting directly into bright sunlight without any softening. If you use the electronic 'first curtain shutter' on a Sony camera, you'll get fine white stripes around the heavily overexposed sun in the image, which look somewhat similar to how weaker/worse dot matrix printers printed images. And before anyone accuses me of saying that you shouldn't take such photos, etc... There are people who like to play with sun flares and lens flares, etc. Fortunately, it turns out that enabling the full mechanical shutter eliminates this problem (those stripes).
Shutter issues on a7III and a7IV - prone to potentially early failure. You have to buy a higher end 1, 9, R, etc. series body to get a decent shutter. Seriously hope they fix that with the a7V… 🤦♂️ Yes, better screens, and actually some firmware updates might be nice.
Shutter failure only happens when you are in high+ mode. Anything Mid to low burst mode doesn't happen. The shutter on the a7iii and a7iv are rated for 150k count. The only time I burst shoot with my a7iii and a7iv is in E-shutter because I like the blackout free EVF. Otherwise, my 1st a7iii had a shutter count of 100k before I sold it off.
The white balance issue almost seems to be a backwards step. I have an a7rII, which yes, is fairly old (and picked up for a bargain), and its custom white balance is saved even if the battery is removed and it sits for a week. Now it does have its own issues, like it feeling the need to warn me I'm in NTSC mode every time I turn it on, pitiful battery life, clunky but also not clunky menus, noisy sensor and the front shutter firing twice every shot. But even still I love the thing.
last firmware was released and it broke the 12800 iso "clean" iso. It only cleaned up at 1600 like in the s.cinetone , so that's the no1 proof is denoising, not dual gain
Still iso 12800 looks better than any other cameras on the market right now. Yes I wish we can have control of noise reduction like fx6 has. It is still way better than a very noisy image.
I tend to dissagree because I compared images of my XT3 at 8000 iso and the sony at 12800 and the image on the fuji was nicer even with noise (it is a very nice noise) and with Davinci resolve denoising the fuji image was clean and beautiful. But yes, there's one more step in post production. And I never shoot without any light , never in pitch darkness.
@@edvard2942 There is a video on youtube, he shoot externally using prores raw, he find out without noise reduction the image noise from iso 12800 is at same level as iso 3200. So yes we know there is a lot noise reduction goes on. But to have iso 12800 perform similar to iso 3200 is still remarkable. And I am sure with noise reduction in post it will look better than the xt3 at iso 8000.
What you didn't talk about, was the ability to output Raw straight from the sensor to Ninja V. This gives you no noise reduction at all, leaving you to denoise in your NLE. Try pixel peeping that.
Wb is set custom on my custom modes on a7Riii...a 7 year old camera.... This is very strange on the 6700. Hopefully they take note of this issue and fix with update.
And one more thing. It's great that you point out the flaws of this equipment. It's impressive that you take the time to do so. I wanted to do something similar, but work and daily responsibilities effectively put an end to that idea. Maybe I'll still do something, because sometimes when I watch people's "tests" and compare them with my own impressions, I feel like we're in the Matrix ;) . For example, the admiration for the quality of Voigtlander lenses. It's utter nonsense. I have the 35mm 1.4 SC, 40 1.4, 50 1.2, and 75 1.2. In the case of the 75mm, the store had two units - I chose the second one because the first was noticeably less sharp on the left side of the frame. I also had to exchange the 50 1.2 because the first one was awful on the right side. The second unit is better, but the right side still has a significantly shifted focus plane. Unfortunately, I'll have to battle with the service department.
I recently bought a A7II with a 24-105mm. And I‘m now perfectly aware about the most troublesome aspects of the cam, mainly autofocus issues, color science (I‘m coming in from Canon)… Still, I love it. I can live with the limitations.
A7ii is a photography camera. It was never meant to be a video camera. The a7Sii is the video camera during that 2nd generation phase. Which is why you wont see the picture profiles or 4K resolution on your a7ii because its a photography camera first. And Sony's 2nd generation Alpha cameras have decent autofocus. Its sony's 3rd gen cameras that have the superb autofocus like the a7iii, a7Riii and a7Siii.
My thoughts exactly. Took me a minute or two to remember where did I hear the same accent. I expected him to say that he needs to SLAP that white balance every time! These cameras must be stopped!
I used Sony, Canon, Olympus, Nikon. Sony was the most difficult to adjust to, lots of weird little things. It felt to me like their camera division had a design department for different parts of the camera but never spoke to each other, so it all felt like different ideas thrown together rather than something cohesive. I eventually did settle with Sony and have moved on from their weirdness but, man, your video made me chuckle. This was exactly me when I first started using Sony. "WtF, Sony" was me more times than I can count.
Don't lie to yourself. You felt so bad about humiliating the X-H2s that now you tackle a modern Sony camera lol. Just kidding! We need more videos like this. Most photo TH-camrs place the AF performance as the end-all, be-all of photography. Its a good thing that we acknowledge all the faults in our expensive tools. Keep up the good work!
hi you are the only youtuber with both the A6700 and XS20, can you please do a video comparing the autofocus and the handheld video stabilization with both many people can't decide A6700 or XS20 because they are the same price
Come on bro, the answer is simple the a6700 is far superior if you need reliable autofocus for video. It's unlikely any pros the xs20 has can outweigh that except for few people
The shutter sound on sony cameras are so much louder than the competition . And the screen quality which you mentioned in the video is subpar. These two factors have been dealbreakers for me
12800 is very good and not denoised... in which world a denoise increases dynamic range? + fx3 and fx6 have CINE EI that cycles between those 2 isos. REMEMBER that this camera launched in 2020, almost 4 years ago before you say it's overrated. Back then FF cameras couldn't do 4k 60 without cropping bro.. Although, great video!!
For me, this is the fact that Sony in e/fe system got rid of ancient technology, which at one time was one of the key technologies for SLR cameras. This is one of the super important things that allowed SLRs to beat rangefinder cameras: Metering and sighting on open aperture and "jumping aperture" mechanism. I found out about this by accident, and it was a shock to me that reviewers do not talk about this. And that yes, indeed those who photograph on a sony a subject photography, long exposure night landscapes or studio with strobes look through the chosen aperture at a noisy slide show. it's kinda a big deal !!
@@edvard2942 I don’t know about Fuji, but I shoot a lot with Canon on a tripod and with flash and when I think about switching to Sony, I imagine what it would be like to work at f/11 with the depth of field preview button constantly pressed, and these thoughts about switching to Sony immediately disappear.
You are mistaken. It is (and always has been) a setting on Sony cameras. You can set it to open up the aperture all the time and only close it while exposing the image, or you can set it to "exposure preview" or whatever it is called, where it will always preview what the final picture will look like. Obviously a depth of field preview button can also be set up.
Nice job. And your accent makes this rant even better. :) Where are you from? You've got a new subscriber and a fan. Best of luck on your way to 1,000!! I'll probably still buy the a6700 or ZVE1 solely for the autofocus. But I agree with every point you made. Sony (all manufacturers) should do better with small issues like crappy JPG previews and AWB lock. Q: I almost never use AWB, is this an issue when using a custom white balance? In other words, will Custom White 1 and Custom White 2 retain their values after a reboot? And will the camera stay on the previously selected custom white (1, 2, 3)?
I felt the "wtf" in my soul. So funny. Came here after buying a Sony A7II and I concur, WTF. EVF is horrible and peaking is about useless, my eyes are better. Shooting experience is horrible. Going back to my dslrs for now.
The reason all those reviewers never say anything negative is because they will not be on the camera companies "Good Reviewer" list. No early Product releases. I like these honest reviews. I hope Fujifilm can get their shit together and release a firmware that actually fixes auto focus.
Jared Polin says negative things about cameras all the time. Christopher Frost roasted the Sony 24-240 lens in the most hilarious way possible. Mark Wiemals and Tony Northrup say negative stuff all the time. You clearly haven't found all the good TH-camrs yet.
Buhdfranka, you're full of BS dude. Pure bias who knows nothing about cameras and just like to talk trash. Tell me which reviewers will never say anything negative about the a7Siii? You're clearly one of those viewers that think its all clickbait videos and then bash the reviewers for it. Show us your work and tell me who are the reviewers that are so bias?
The ntsc mode versus the power mode is actually a frequency in the power coming from the PSU. The PSU has to change frequency in order to change between those modes. This is a hardware issue. Not so much a software issue. However it can be overcome with software assuming you have a powerful enough processor to convert the ntsc to pal. The processor has to generate an extra frame to match the frequency otherwise the video will play faster and that will cause audio sync issues
One more thing about the A6700 memory settings on the mode dial. They do not remember if you have it set for Back Button AF instead of Shutter Button AF. I use BBAF for some types of photography and SBAF for other types. The memory settings do not remember this though so *every time* I want to change for different types of photography I must change to the memory number on the mode dial *and* dive into the menu to change between the AF modes. :-(
I have 3 digital camera brands that I can recall off the top of my head. Every single one of them lacks this one feature or implements it badly that you took for granted.
Exactly 🤣, but not the focus motor ( example: same lens on sony vs fuji , on fuji is trash , on sony is awesome )the focusing tehnology camera-lens communication
'Pixelated thumbnail' Bahahahaaa 😆 I am 100% with you, I love/hate all my cameras too! That's the best way to be. You're gonna laugh at me, but sitting next to me is a Pentax K3III. The level of customisation this camera has is off its f**kin tits! You get 5 Custom Mode Dials but you can STORE 10 in the camera and swap them in and out of the C1-C5 dials, mental. And the level of customisation is insane. You can have completely different button mapping per Custom Mode, which is fantastic. For example you can have BBF for C1 but not on C2. And then it has this friggin cool 'Memory' section within the menu whereby when you enter it you have a heap of boxes to leave ticked on or off for things you'd like the camera to remember or forget. And get this... it EVEN HAS AN OPTION FOR YOU TO DECIDE IF YOU WANT THINGS FORGOTTON ABOUT OR KEPT DURING POWER OFFS VS GOING TO SLEEP! So literally if the camera is left On, goes to Sleep (2mins idle), then when pressing shutter button it recalls your session changes on your Custom modes (such as AWB lock), but if you power OFF and then toggle it back on then it will default to your stored settings. Or you could make it do both that, or whatever! Basically ANYTHING YOU WANT YOU CAN GET WITH THIS CAMERA🤯 If only Pentax made mirrorless, did good video and had good AF, they would utterly spank the bejesus out of the other brands menu and configurations.
@@edvard2942 Just showing some empathy really, like you say there is no such thing as a perfect camera. If there was mine would borrow from so many different systems and yes even Pentax!
Pentax had the best menus, Canon is a second best. I like my Canon's, the lens situation is Eh unless you use adapted EF lenses though, then you get a bunch. Sony is kind of a tech bro camera, best specs on paper but disappointing to actually use and doesn't get out of your way as much. Also not very ergonomic..
Loved this, i upgraded from sony a7c to bmpcc 4k instead of a7siii, just the fact that i have to say upgrade to an older model camera at a cheaper price should make you realise how weird the sony cameras are with their goofy contrast curves and minuscule screens. Bmpcc 4k is no perfect camera mind you but the colors straight out from gen 5 to inbuilt lut is so beautiful i rarely have to do any changes in post but still assured i can change anything i want because of braw. Got bmpcc6k pro now because wont have to use speedbooster so more secure attachment of lens. Battery is still shit but hey i got it for $1000 and it has internal nd so i aint complaining.
I think the camera companies view these short comings as a benefit because they "encourage" video shooters using their hybrid cameras to buy their very expensive cinema cameras. You think white balance is bad on Sony on Canon you have switch to photo mode take a picture of something white then switch back to video mode and in the WB menu find the white picture you took. On camcorder point it at something white press and hold the white balance button. The same company makes both cameras so it feels intentional. But I agree as video shooter I find the custom dial useless because of the white balance. Remember not long ago all the cameras brands would stop recording video at 29 minutes.
I agree , The 29 minutes thing was for the price, EU or USA regulations (im not sure) said that if a photo camera records more than 29 minutes its a video camera and the tax is higher or something like that.
@@edvard2942 In compared to the FX6 & Fx9 it's less expensive. They like to segment their cameras, so in their view A7s3 is still a hybrid photo camera. It's not strictly about price because the A1 is expensive but has a photo body so will always be limited by design. They basically don't want lower end camera taking sales from higher end cameras.
@@edvard2942 Note this is what the camera companies said at the time. The media and people on the internet simply repeated it. Because they said the EU would charge more tax if it was deemed video and photo camera. I don't know if it was really true because even if it is why were US model limited too. I think again it was way to try to limit these cameras from completing against their cinema cameras. Another limitation Canon would do is not allow clean HDMI out to prevent people from recording raw video to an Atomos.
You literally don't know anything about the a7Siii period. Did you started your film journey after the release of the a7siii? The a7Siii was a beast of a video camera when it was first released back in 2020. The a7S series is Sony's dedicated video camera. People love the a7Sii and was waiting patiently for the a7Siii and it took 5 years later for the a7Siii finally to be released. Every issue that the a7Sii had, Sony fixed it from bigger battery, 9 million dot EVF, superb autofocus, 10-bit colors, 4K/120 and so on in the a7Siii. The a7siii is a video camera. Majority of users put their a7siii on a cage with its a dedicated monitor and v-mount battery. Yes, the LCD on the a7siii isn't high resolution but i prefer it not to be because I dont want the LCD to suck out all the battery. I have seen more rigs with the a7siii than people using it as a handheld camera. And if they do it, they only record 1 to 5 minutes of footage. The cons of the a7siii is Sony's laziness to not quickly update the firmware. It took them like 2 years to finally update the firmware which annoys the heck out of us. Otherwise, the a7siii is a beast of a camera to this day and will still continue to be a great camera in the next 10 years. The only reason why i wouldn't get an a7Siii anymore is because of the FX3. Sony decided to make a smaller compact cinema camera by releasing the FX3. There is no more reason for the a7S series anymore and the a7Siii is likely the last entry in the series. I own 2x FX3. Since you have talked now, I want to see your work. Show us your work that you produced with the a7Siii. Dont matter if its clients or personal videos, please share the links and show us your work. We'll be waiting. Otherwise, you're just another media person bashing on camera brands just to get views and has no clue what you're talking about. I trust Potato Jet's reviews more than you because PJ dissect the a7Siii so well compare to your basic reviews.
@@edvard2942 You're welcome! Subscribed please since you laughed. You can learn a lot from me rather than spitting out bias lies and is not willing to show everyone your work. Otherwise, keep lying for click-bait videos buddy. Have a nice day! :)
I love this and I'm a Sony user but I totally agree. OMG the highlights in the standard picture profile blow out so easy. I don't know how I ever shot anything in that. And the screens are such trash lol. I can't really trust anything I see on them. My issue with a lot of other youtubers is they often get the camera just for review purposes, rush to get a video out for release and then send it back. They don't get to use the cameras under real world work conditions. Many of them also want to maintain a good relationship with the camera companies so they don't want to bash to cameras too much else no more free gear to review.
I like honest content like this! I have been drooling about the low light beast A7Siii for filming the night sky. I find that above ISO51200 my Canon R6 gets a lot of banding. I don't mind the grain. Maybe I should invest in the Studio version of Davinci instead 😂
I shoot all brands (yes, even Pentax). Literally not an issue with skin tones on the Sony. Nikon is tons of yellow, while Canon is magenta. Sony is actually neutral, I'm using both RAW and JPEG. Literally user issue
I'm not sure why you are getting a plasticky image, I tried in daylight to film at ISO640 and then ISO12800 with an ND filter, the difference was very slight with a bit more noise in the shadows and dynamic range was identical (this was also tested by CINED) - was this in HEVC? White balance lock is an interesting one, I use Sony and Fuji and never noticed this difference, to me that button is a "hold it for a moment", not a permanent setting, if I want a permanent setting I have white balanced mapped to a key, I never use auto as it's a pain to edit in post. To me it's logical for white balance to be separate from the custom mode, what if I'm filming and it becomes cloudy, I don't usually change other modes but I do change white balance. I agree about the popup messages and PAL/NTSC, why Sony! - also, why no 25fps in HEVC, only 24, 60 and 120 and only 50 and 100 in PAL, no 24 even. Why??? - totally agree on the screen, going from the X-S20 screen to the A7C II screen was just painful...
In daylight the 12800 iso doesnt look so bad, in low light in my opinion was not looking good, like too much denoising, i tend to zoom a bit on the image and that bothered me. *yes the sony screens are awfull
@@edvard2942 Was the plasticky look in standard picture profiles only, or also in SLOG3? - Was that with HEVC? - I find there's a colour shift when you go to the H.264 formats, HEVC looks best to me. I haven't experienced it on the ZV-E1 (same sensor as A7S3), it looks really like magic, huge amounts of detail and way better than any camera I tried. It really is the killer feature for me being able to use smaller battery powered lights running at low power and still getting the same exact dynamic range and just a slight amount of noise in the shadows (easily fixed in post), or hand held night shots still looking so crisp. I don't zoom in a huge amount but looking at comparisons to the A7 IV or even the A1, zoomed in there is a lot less noise and detail looks about the same. APS-C is really great these days but surely the A7S3 is still a good few stops better than the A6700 in just about any mode?
@@DigiDriftZone It was the same in hevc or h264 even in second base for SCinetone at 2000iso i think I dont like the denoising in camera, I was pixel peeping , It is more like a preference for me.
This should be visible in the quality of the lenses designed for E mount. But it is not. There are tons of absolutely stellar lenses at every focal length and aperture for Sony, so even if there is a handicap because of the mount, it is nowhere near as significant as people liked to say. It seems to be merely theoretical and not discernible for the human eye.
With my Sony camera is that garbage XML file made with every video file and no way to turn off. The extra folder clicks to get to the footage folder was also annoying. I switched to Fujifilm but the autofocus especially in the. Newest firmware which you mentioned about in a recent video is trashed at this time and it is my camera and 2 cameras at that which I use to make my videos.
how did you even not mention - rolling shutter with hybrid shooting (electronic front curtain), A7's are the only ones with a full fidelity mechanical curtain, the a7c and cii have a single curtain, which increases the shutter sync from 0.3 to 0.15. -Electronic shutter sensor readout Sony A6700 would be perfect if it had unrestricted full fidelity mechanical shutter up to 1/8000 but it is limited to 1/4000, the sensor readout is 25 MILISECONDS, that's A LOT of time, causing god awful rolling shutter. -uncompressed raw vs compressed 12bit To shoot uncompressed RAW you can only set the camera to the lowest shots per second value (3fps/5fps depending on the model) these things are FUNDAMENTAL for photographers but all it seems like you and all only care about video. Side note; Sony cameras are very limited because they want to make them affordable. You see Fuji's cameras are extremely overpriced and their mount is by far one of the least flexible of them all. Even the adapters have an optical element that not only reduces sharpness, but it also suffers from reducing a whole stop of light. As a hobbyist, my perfect pick would be the Sony A99II but there are no longer new units and the ones sold second hand are in god awful condition. So i will have to switch from A77II to A7IV + LA-EA5 and probably will never need anything more else, all I would have to switch is the batteries. But for now I'm very happy with the a77ii, it's autofocus is BRUTAL especially with minolta HS APO lenses.
@@edvard2942 if you go to his community tab on his TH-cam page he has a post about the AF 6.0 and he said he is going to revert back to 5.10 but he still needs to figure out how to do it.
You just made me feel more happy to own a Canon and a Fuji. Thank you! Now please find some bad stuff about Nikon... Because I am really thinking about R8 and ZF right now! 🙄
That may well be true, after all, Android was supposed to be a camera operating system, However, I meant their apps for mobile. It's 2024 and Sony means to tell me that I can't transfer a 24MP .ARW file over WiFi if I'm on iOS? It's not better on Android either, lol. Don't get me started on transferring files to a Mac without involving wires. 🙃
I just purchased mine february ago. Before this, i use canon 700D/T5i. Honestly, I was sold by those youtubers to purchase the A7Siii. I kid you not, my 700D have better display color than A7Siii. And it's bugging me so much. I used sony a6000 series, and early a7 series, they are cancer to my eyes. The A7sIII fix a lot of things that I hate with their earlier products. But man, they focused so much at marketing they forgot to make an actual non irritating simple functions on their cameras. Yes, the slog3 exposure is not the same with normal exposure. those youtubers don't tell you shit about that. BUT,,, I mostly shoot 1080p. Thanks to the lower res sensor, the A7sIII 1080p is fcking awesome. even compared to the newer A7iv, I think the A7Siii 1080p quality is better. edit : and for god sake. FIX THE DAMN NTSC/PAL thing. my canon 700d can play video from both version with either mode. FFS
The screens are just horrendous. The colours of the screens are unreal, faint , can't judge anything on them. The slog3 exposure is 2 or 3 stops darker than standard mdoes. On my a6700 to get same exposure as 800 iso in normal , for slog3 i had to bump it up to 4000.
The only thing that keeps me using Fuji is DR400 in video. Sony records awful contrasty video in a standard profile. And I don't want to play with SLOG either. There's no simple option for normal video with good colors. Every TH-cam guide suggests you to buy luts and expose it +1 or +2 yada yada, wtf is this? Like, why thousands of users should also buy some luts just to use this camera normally?
And one more thing... Custem white balance is in camera 😅.. I used it more than 6 years even with my old A7iii.. And I'been used the presets or Custem every single day.. I think you take personally with sony man 😚
"My brain is melting..." hahaha. I watched your video at 2x the speed and this sounds very funny (funnier) than at 1x :-). Funny comment/reaction to what you saw.
3 years of A7SIII and still the best camera on the market to me hands down with not even a true competitor close to it. Some of the issues you said are true, but the pros are way more than the negatives. If you dig into any other camera you'll find way more deal breaking, critical negatives that can ruin your projects in comparison. No perfect camera out there but A7SIII is one of the best out there and calling it overrated is just not true. I usually use HLG though, not SLog3, lots of dynamic range, just a fraction less than SLog3, but with way more cleaner shadows and shadow recoverability. Even 51,200 ISO looks perfectly fine when had to use it.
Thanks for the comment. In my opinion for the price of the camera the EVF and screen quality is bad and also the quircks of it. After the 3.0 update animal focus is still not working in videos after 4 years from release. You have it in the menu , can switch from human to animal but nothing happends. Overall great camera that destroyed the competition with the 4k120 and af features but in my opinion overrated meaning you can get results same results with much cheaper cameras.
@@edvard2942 All you said is correct. If you are a narrative-driven filmmaker then yes, you usually don't need more than a good 4K@24fps and a usuable 60fps mode. I'm mostly a wildlife filmmaker and low light capabilities is the main selling point, and the real time 4K@120fps with audio. The biggest flaw to me is the lack of Bird/Animal AF in video, a huge negative. Same flaw stopping me from buying the A1. Waiting for the A7Siv and A1 II in the near future to add to my arsenal, but gonna buy A7Rv and FX30 for now along with keeping my a7SIII as my main camera. Hope the best to you.
The real problem is this video is only Nitpicking. How can you criticise a camera after only a few days of use 🤣. I’ve only ever used Sony and Fuji and I love both.. took my 2 years with each system to get comfortable with them. Any camera system you can get great results you just have to put the time in
Buy yourself a Panasonic Lumix.... S5, S5ii or S5iiX and you'll be very happy. And if you stay with the S5 you can get a new one for 999,- instead of 4000,- for a Sony A7Siii (which is insane!)

@@ModernVersusVintage I agree! ahahah
Any thoughts on the Lumix s5iix? The features and the menu system seems to give Sony a run for its money.
Bro showed up late but dropped a nuke to the camera community
More like reviewers community
Well said
You're probably right but its still annoying stuff.
I agreed with you. I think Panasonic S5Xii is much more a low light camera than A7s3. Even FX30 gives you more honest image, and with post denoising it's much better at 12800.
Yes, I honestly prefer a fuji apsc image at 8000 iso and denoise it on davinci.
But then you have to put up with the terrible panasonic AF
@@williamshakespeare9815 Panasonic AF is good now
So glad to have found you! Great videos! Thanks for pointing out these issues and holding manufacturers to account.
Love your contents, very different from other influencers channels.

I agree 💯. Great video, thanks for sharing!
On my a6600, If I switch from PAL to NTSC it formats my card and deletes all the footage on the SD card.
I shoot Canon and yes, there are things about my R5 and R6MKII that I wish I could change, but for the most part these cameras work for what I shoot.
You can do any work with almost any new camera. Its more about the price you pay for features and ease of use.
@@edvard2942 Agree 100%.
Sonys marketing game is next level.
U spot on about reviewers. They always leave out so many issues and you find out the hard way
I agree 100%
@@harryvuemedia me who just bought a used A7s OG with 126k SC: **nervous sweating**
About the 12800 iso on sony. I have tested it with raw output to a ninja v and you have noise at 10.000 iso and 12800 there is no more noise.
last firmware was released and it broke the 12800 iso "clean" iso.
If user shooting on 12k iso, he do something wrong
What you didn't talk about, was the ability to output Raw straight from the sensor to Ninja V. This gives you no noise reduction at all, leaving you to denoise in your NLE. Try pixel peeping that.
Wb is set custom on my custom modes on a7Riii...a 7 year old camera.... This is very strange on the 6700. Hopefully they take note of this issue and fix with update.
every new sony camera wont let you do a custom wb (takea picture of a grey card) in memory recall (custom modes)

@@nicedward7544 it doesnt show you the value of the custom wb that you can do in other modes.
@@edvard2942 yooo that's messed up lmao. Not sure why the hell they would do that..
If you buy a camera in a PAL region, every time boot up you get a NAG message because you’re using ntsc!!!
This lmao

You felt so bad about humiliating the X-H2s that now you tackle a modern Sony camera lol.

many people can't decide A6700 or XS20 because they are the same price
Yes please, I second this!

It would be great if you made a video about nikon and canon too!!
I ditched my a7iv and zve1 for bmpcc4k. 😅
For me, this is the fact that Sony in e/fe system got rid of ancient technology, which at one time was one of the key technologies for SLR cameras. This is one of the super important things that allowed SLRs to beat rangefinder cameras:
Metering and sighting on open aperture and "jumping aperture" mechanism.
I found out about this by accident, and it was a shock to me that reviewers do not talk about this. And that yes, indeed those who photograph on a sony a subject photography, long exposure night landscapes or studio with strobes look through the chosen aperture at a noisy slide show. it's kinda a big deal !!
Fujifilm still has jumping aperture on their XF system , and also autofocus jumping :D ancient technology
Please if you can test Panasonic lumix siix, thanks.
When I get my hands on one will do

Hi. Planning to buy my first cam. I really appreciate your very honest reviews. What are your thoughts on Sony's A6700 as a beginner camera?
Great camera. But buy 1.4 lenses
The reason all those reviewers never say anything negative is because they will not be on the camera companies "Good Reviewer" list. No early Product releases. I like these honest reviews. I hope Fujifilm can get their shit together and release a firmware that actually fixes auto focus.
Yes, you're right, and about fuji , When they update the XF mount maybe they will fix it, until then , I dont think it will be as good as the rest.
What about Panasonic S5 2X?
Sony bring 2009's screen to 2024 camera and Fujifilm keep 2012 focus motor on 2023 lens :v great!
Exactly 🤣, but not the focus motor ( example: same lens on sony vs fuji , on fuji is trash , on sony is awesome )the focusing tehnology camera-lens communication
in fact, in 1999 Canon built better focus motors!
never change, Edvard. Please never change.

'Pixelated thumbnail' Bahahahaaa 😆
I am 100% with you, I love/hate all my cameras too!
Basically ANYTHING YOU WANT YOU CAN GET WITH THIS CAMERA🤯
If only Pentax made mirrorless, did good video and had good AF, they would utterly spank the bejesus out of the other brands menu and configurations.
Never touched a Pentax camera but I'm intrigued by your comment. 😁
Most of reviewers don't buy the camera and only use them for few days. Sony marketing dept is sending them the camera for review.
A lot of Sony camera’s issues can be resolved with software updates, I’m 90% sure
Yah they could but unfortunately those firmware updates would break the camera and you will have to pay $700 for a repair
A7SIII FX3 have the same issues and they are not cheap.
Problem with the XT3 was the screen looked at better than the actual footage😅
What do you think about the FX3?
It is a sony a7siii without a viewfinder.
I trust Potato Jet's reviews more than you because PJ dissect the a7Siii so well compare to your basic reviews.
thanks, i laughed
@@edvard2942 You're welcome! Subscribed please since you laughed. You can learn a lot from me rather than spitting out bias lies and is not willing to show everyone your work. Otherwise, keep lying for click-bait videos buddy.
Have a nice day! :)
Perfectly said as a sony user I can confirm this is exactly the truth
I love this and I'm a Sony user but I totally agree. OMG the highlights in the standard picture profile blow out so easy. I don't know how I ever shot anything in that. And the screens are such trash lol. I can't really trust anything I see on them.
My issue with a lot of other youtubers is they often get the camera just for review purposes, rush to get a video out for release and then send it back. They don't get to use the cameras under real world work conditions. Many of them also want to maintain a good relationship with the camera companies so they don't want to bash to cameras too much else no more free gear to review.
Yes yes yes yes , the highlights are always blown and can t trust the screens , even the evfs.
I like your energy brother. I subscribe.
I like honest content like this! I have been drooling about the low light beast A7Siii for filming the night sky. I find that above ISO51200 my Canon R6 gets a lot of banding. I don't mind the grain. Maybe I should invest in the Studio version of Davinci instead 😂
Sony fault rate for older models are quite high, My unit of A7r2 has been repaired twice.
Edvard, shame that You didn't mentioned about crappy Sony skin tones 😅 (and overall yellow/green cast in images from Sony cameras)
You are right, I should be ashamed , It was in the video but i cut it out, because and i fixed it for video with fuji luts burned in camera 😆
I shoot all brands (yes, even Pentax). Literally not an issue with skin tones on the Sony. Nikon is tons of yellow, while Canon is magenta. Sony is actually neutral, I'm using both RAW and JPEG. Literally user issue
You're on the track to become something big.
Sony is using an apsc mount for full frame. As the Sigma boss said it makes designing full frame lenses difficult and compromised.
The SD Erase formatting method made my photos unrecoverable 😢😢
how did you even not mention
- rolling shutter with hybrid shooting (electronic front curtain), A7's are the only ones with a full fidelity mechanical curtain, the a7c and cii have a single curtain, which increases the shutter sync from 0.3 to 0.15.
-uncompressed raw vs compressed 12bit To shoot uncompressed RAW you can only set the camera to the lowest shots per second value (3fps/5fps depending on the model)
these things are FUNDAMENTAL for photographers but all it seems like you and all only care about video.
Only the half you said makes me happy im a canon shooter, simple camera and great result is always the key you have to be fast
He will probably make a rant video about Canon too, just wait 😂
Did you figure out how to downgrade the firmware on the XH2S? I know cine dailies is trying to figure that one out.
He said that? I am not aware of any way to downgrade
Send me link or something
@@edvard2942 if you go to his community tab on his TH-cam page he has a post about the AF 6.0 and he said he is going to revert back to 5.10 but he still needs to figure out how to do it.
@@oregonduc found it, thanks, glad a more popular youtuber speaks about this. There s no way to revert, maybe send camera to fuji idk
You just made me feel more happy to own a Canon and a Fuji. Thank you!
Now please find some bad stuff about Nikon... Because I am really thinking about R8 and ZF right now! 🙄
Sony's piss poor iOS support has entered the chat.
That’s because Sony cameras basically run a android subsystem.
Exactly, Sony creative looks or even s cinetone the dynamic range is awful, and as you said very contrasty
Shitty LCDs and viewfinders.
I agree
Strange for a manufacturer of screens!
@@TerraThink correct! 🤣
And one more thing... Custem white balance is in camera 😅.. I used it more than 6 years even with my old A7iii.. And I'been used the presets or Custem every single day.. I think you take personally with sony man 😚
We complain about the exact same things, i use sony for video and canon for the photos, ef sigma lenses with mc11 adapter, best of both worlds.
now its only about what gear will get the job done.
Hahaha Baaam! Stay so open and straight to the point!
Sony's codec names are kinda cringe. On Fuji you switch between H.264 and HEVC, and Sony is like XAVCJDSKFS-BEBOU-FB or XAKJBAOAIDFAH-AEKJWQ
Yes! haha
I have A7iv.. I never have change on white balance.. Something wrong with you setting 👍🏽
Great video!
Some more points...
Bad LCD
Software Errors on cold days
Bad Grip
Feels cheap
But yeah, every brand got his flaws.
True. Grip on the A7IV for a little better. A7iii was okay. Anything is better than the Fuji XT series.
@@Princeton_James Depends. Small lenses on a Fuji System feels more comfortable than a Sony Body.
Do an iso test like 8000 on xh2s + denoise and 12800 on a7siii
I dont have the a7s3 anymore but I can upload an unlisted video of my xt3 (same noise as xh2s) in the streets lowlight at 8000 iso + davinci denoise
th-cam.com/video/2u2l1U9EAQI/w-d-xo.html check here old footage of mine XT3 6400 iso + little denoise
Better check this out xh2s 12800 iso th-cam.com/video/8-d5_SVO8sU/w-d-xo.html , Those are extreme tests, basicaly almost pitch black wich you should never do.
Hmm I should check my Sony A7iv for those problems
Besides the "green EVF" it should have all the same quirks
Does this issue exists on the A74 and A7R5?
Not an issue on a7cr
if you re talking about the evf no, only on some a7siii
