      The gaijin factor helps lots, most interviews made by Japanese TH-camrs fail to get this reactions.

      @@lmclrain for sure, but it is rare in general to have interviews with follow up questions that actually have depth to them too. Love seeing the ones that just kind of "stumble" people a little and make them go "huh I did not really think this deeply about it, but that is why" etc.
      This will for sure grow, and hopefully keep the good content :)

      Except you have to be intelligent to be able to converse with a myriad of different types of people who want to talk about a variety of things...and not just talk but be engaging and entertaining enough to have them coming back and asking for you. As someone who used to be a host, I can say there are definitely extremely smart people that work there. But there's a big dichotomy between many of the cast members.
    Many places will let anybody become a host, but what ends up happening is they don't make any money and are just helpers for the other hosts.
    To make money, you can't just be "イケメン." You have to think about how conversation flows, how to make people feel special, how to promote yourself and carry yourself. The ones that are #1 have every bit of their personality meticulously thought out.

    Host clubs are little different from vtubers. Vtubers also pretend they don't have boyfriends to get money from vulnerable men. Host clubs seem better because you can actually meet and talk to handsome men and drink with them.

    In the US “host clubs” are called strip clubs because the hosts take their clothes off. But, they try to get you to buy expensive drinks and give them money to rub up against your body.

    Like drinking coffee. It has no nutritional value and you can't "keep" it. It's just a fleeting pleasure. Playing computer games is the same. It's not "real" per se, but it's pleasurable. A lot of relationships are also "fake". For example, those in which men just want to have a girlfriend for sex and nothing more, but feel they have to mislead the girl to get what they want. I don't see anything wrong with paying for someone's company, if you're lonely or bored and can afford it. It also helps distribute money in a trickle-down economics way. Many of those hosts can't find well-paying jobs so the affluent women who are executives or have husbands make exorbitant money while laborers slave for their minimum wages can re-distribute the wealth a little. It's a win-win situation.

    I noticed something interesting. Being a host is mainly about charisma and speaking skills. Many people mentioned that the most important trait a host can have is good speaking skills(7:52)(10:21). A host needs to create a. Looks are a bonus, but not required.

    False sense of belonging, you end up paying for services while you could put that money in yourself, find a nice relationship and flourish...instead you end up in endless loops that keep you safe so you dont ever feel like you have to get out of this....short term pleasure ofc, cause you need to redo it over and over and over again....makes me sad.

    I was aware of host clubs but never knew some of the grim details to them. It does make sense. Seems like a seedy side of Japan that’s rarely talked about. Just like gambling, you gotta be careful and go in moderation at best. Can’t help but feel that one girl who went and quit last year probably burned through a lot of her money.

    Host clubs that target females have recently been targeted by law enforcement in Japan. Many of them tout the females, take them into the 'club' / venue and then have them rake up huge bills for over priced alcohol + Once they run up the bills they are then trapped ! Forced to pay up OR drag someone else in as another victim! The one doing so may get some of their bill reduced BUT ?! Don't get suckered re the so called 'regular customer' spiel. What was uncovered was shockingly criminal.

    We don’t have an “idol” culture in the west. We just have Strip Clubs. There is no competition for “number 1” or any nonsense like that. Although they may try to get you to buy drinks but that money just goes to the bar. We don’t have Host culture. Probably because the normalcy of guys and girls talking and hanging out is 100k times more prevalent and normal here than in Japan. Japan needs a Love/Freedom Revolution lol.

    in other words, both male and female prostitution are equally bad and should not exist. not only because of moral issues, but also because they devalue emotional and bodily joys

    • @gordonbgraham
      @gordonbgraham 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rather...they DO exist because there is a need for such professions. Morality is simply the agreed upon behaviour, implicit or explicit, between two or more people. As long as both parties agree then there is nothing morally wrong (unless one of the parties is underage and has yet to understand the repercussions one could experience as a result of some action others find reprehensible).
