It makes sense that hot springs and public bathhouses would ban customers with tattoos. This is because if tattoos are allowed, the place could become a meeting place for the yakuza and other gangsters. Public bathhouses are basically for local people, so if they become a meeting place for these gangsters, no one will go there. And since it's hard for stores to distinguish between yakuza and normal people, they ban everyone with tattoos. If I were the owner of an onsen or public bathhouse, I would ban everyone with tattoos.

Women ruin their beauty by getting tattoos. A lot of tattoos on women are a turn off for me.

Stay strong Japanese people and don't ruin your skin with ugly tattoos. Prominent tattoos on a woman is not only a big turn-off for men, but also a huge red flag.

Congrats on 10k! That was a random divorce question there at the end. Can you do one where you ask Japanese various questions about tall westerners? I'm 6'7", or 2m, bald, with a beard, and whenever I travel in Vietnam, China, Laos, etc., people often want to touch me or get a pic with me. In Korea and Japan, not as much, but definitely surprised looks and the typical OMG. Maybe some interesting questions there? Also, maybe on a separate episode, is there a bias about motorcyclists in Japan? In the US, people think of (choppers) bikers as law breakers and criminals, (crotch rockets) as driving too fast and swerving around cars, (off-road) as destroying nature and too loud, (adventure motorcycles) dentists that spend $20,000 on a BMW motorcycle that is fitted like it can go around the world but never actually goes farther than a Starbucks. Or maybe another episode where you discuss stereotypes about the typical American man, vs Western European, vs Eastern European, Southern, Northern, etc.? Just spitting out ideas because I enjoy your channel! Thanks.

Someone please enlighten me what is it with Japan and hot springs and public bath houses. It seems that almost everyone's answer about the number one reason for not getting a tattoo is that you can't go to a hot spring or public bath house. I'm almost 40 years old and have never been to either a hot spring or a public bath house in my life. Ever. I don't feel like I'm missing out. Why do they all care so much that they wouldn't be able to go to a hot spring or public bathhouse? Is it like some kind of cultural ritual that people do there?
Furthermore, if the primary reason for banning tattoos there is so that Yakuza don't go there, why is that such a big deal? The Yakuza don't have anywhere else to gather aside from bath houses and hot springs?
P.S. I see some very idiotic comments below. People saying that getting tattoos makes someone mentally ill, that only gangsters do it, that it's stupid, etc., etc. Tattoos nowadays have become a form of self expression for many people. Some people do it purely for artistic reasons, but many do it because they want to put something permanent on themselves that represents something important to them, whether it be related to family, religion, spirituality, culture, the place you grew up, things that have inspired you and empowered you, etc. And when done in the right style and the right way, tattoos can look great decades later. They can sometimes even look better decades later than they did when they were first tattooed.

Bro, Osaka people really behave differently from most Japanese. I wonder if people from Tokyo for example would be as nori no ii in those interviews. Idk, maybe it's because you're a foreigner, or perhaps because you're funny and crack some jokes during the interviews, but interviewees from Takashii in Japan are rarely as interesting/engaging.

11:53 "I see it as damaging your body." She is 100% correct. "Trendy tattoos" are as stupid as inserting dance steps in a movie - cool at the time, but a decade later, they are laughably out of date. Who is to say that expression or person's name you have on your forehead won't be an anachronism later on in life? That "kawaii" tatt of a butterfly on your butt may look good at age 20, but when you're 60, it looks more like a giant cancerous mole that a dermatologist should remove. BTW: great closing questions. Japanese don't seem to grasp absurdities.

I think those that are covered in tattoos in any country have lost the 'coolness' of them - everyone (practically) have them and they can look awful. I think that small tattoos are much cooler, not the ones you see where their whole arms and legs are covered in them. So yes, small tattoos can look cute and some look nice, but the larger ones are horrible. I think that it's seen, somehow, as a 'manly' thing to do? The girl in the lace bonnet was so cute! ❤

This is one more reason i love Japan. Tattoos are the most ignorant, destructive self abuse that has infected the west. I've known too many young ladies who were so naturally beautiful that were destroyed by their addiction to tattoos.

i understand your point of view, but its not because of the tattoo imo, its because of the person itself, as a person who tend to judge people on the appearance i always think peoples with tatoo was bad and sorta cringy.
but, ive talked to people who have alot of tattoos and they are surprisingly nice..
and ive seen the bad ones too like a guy who went to the same gym as i am, he bulk up and one day he got his tatoo all over his arm just to show off and he think he looks cool and always roll his arm sleeve. also occasionally bad talking from behind of new gym member who just started to train. also flirting excessively and always staring at himself for 30mins after training.
imo if the person has a bad thought and personality they will eventually goes bad regardless

Some people get tattoos to PROVE how tough or badass they are by being able to tolerate pain. (At least that is what many of my colleagues think)….in the film making occupation. But wait till they get cancer, that is when one truly understand what Pain is. No, I do not mean tattoo gives you cancer for those wanting to jump to conclusion.

You have freedom? How did Canada and the US handle Covid? People were getting arrested for going to a park! In Japan, businesses weren't forced to close, schools stayed open and whether you got a vaccine or not was a private matter that your employer had no business asking about. You have an illusion of freedom, that's all
