Well they're moving towards the right direction, but I think we're going to see (as mentioned) a PS6 and a companion device that can do all of this and have native games (physical & digital).
Yeah im still not convinced to get a Playstation portal. You would still need to have the following in order to get it to work: 1. Subscribe to the Playstation plus premium subscription that only offers cloud gaming and those prices are still going to cost more money being spent. 2. I was playing demons souls with it and it was running smooth I was actually caught off guard. I have fiber internet so I would assume that helps but yea shits rad, stoked I bought one.
I understand why the Portal is designed the way it is, but if we ever get a revision that’s more akin to the PSP/Vita that also comes with internal storage, I may actually pick one up.
That wont be the case since the performance would be bad or the hardware would cost a lot more. Best examples are the Nintendo switch or steam deck. No matter which you pick you have to make compromises with either one. The Ps portal is a pretty good deal.
Playing bloodborne, sitting bythe campfire, up at camp, streaming data through my phone, portal was just fine. I agree that playing any online ame the same way is crap. But it was still a nice perk when my switch battery was dead
There are two issues with this though. One of them you mentioned, you need PS Plus Premium. The other is that you need a digital library. This won’t cloud stream your physical collection.
@@Shadowespeon17If you like buy the ps plus preiium on an account made from sony, you can easily connect it to that account and play games. and if you later buy a ps5 or ps6 when it comes out your save data will be saved. Who knows maybe playstation bring pc, xbox streaming options too
Playstation NoW has allowd you to steam your physical games for 10 years. Do you not have a Playstation? Thats literally what the Portal is for, streaming your physical games.
Doesn’t matter. The Portal is crap. It uses Wifi 5. Why the hell would a streaming device use outdated wifi technology?!? I literally have 1 GB fiber optic internet and it constantly kicked me or wouldnt connect. I returned it within 3 weeks….i was so tired of it kicking me, then being unable to reconnect, so i have to get up and go physically turn my console off because it has a game running on it, then reboot it, turn the wifi off and then back on on the Portal so that it resets, then trying to reconnect again. The thing is trash
I haven't purchased the Playstation portal yet just because of the fact that you can not swap out the sticks if you get sick drift, which is common with these controllers. Until Sony comes out with a swappable stick version like it's Dualsense Edge, I'll probably bite. Oh and having premium subscription in order to be able to use cloud streaming is dumb. The games that I purchased should also be available.
I’m so glad i ordered the 30th edition one when it released. I had heard so many mixed reviews on it but though eh what the hell at least it will look nice 😅
The biggest issue I have with the portal is the fear of it having stick drift. They should have made the sides removable like joycons so at least you can replace them or the stick modules replaceable (or I dunno use Hall effect sticks?). Otherwise I’ve loved it even before this feature. This is a nice addition (although you need ps plus premium which is otherwise a bad value so far…I’ll upgrade for the remainder 100 days I guess for like 7$ though lol)
Those sticks are actually smaller than the regular DS ones. So there is no way the Edge modules would have been an option unfortunately. But yeah, they should definitely have done with magnetic sensors of some type in it, especially considering how much work it is to get it apart. Not smartphone levels, but still fairly involved.
@@darkwalker19 Well, everything is removable one way or another. ;) You mean they are on their own separated circuitboards I guess? I seen teardowns but don't remember if they were or not.
I like this update. The cloud gaming could use a little update with the latency though. Was playing RE3 and it looked and ran great… but the voices and sound effects didn’t like up with lip movement and stuff like that. This is while I’m connected to my 824mbps internet connection. lol kind of absurd but hey I’m sure it’ll get better.
Finally a valid reason to get the premium tier on ps plus. I was waiting for a feature to re-subscribe and the timing is perfect with the black friday deal!
I like the addition of cloud gaming. Feels like it will be a backup plan if for what ever reason I can’t remote into my PS5. What is funny to me is how as time goes on it feels like Sony is getting to Xbox’s new model without forgoing it’s exclusive titles.
Cloud is only a options with Playstation not the forefront of its business model. Its cool.for.thos who want it but Sony not trying to force the customers hand like Xbox
Shouldve been a thing since launch, but i think they did this because the portal has proven to be a successful product. Probably wouldve been even more sales if it was like this from launch but they really play it conservatively at launch
I got the 30th anniversary ed, and it works ok for the price. But text in games can be really difficult to read, I use my phone camera to magnify it. I wish there was an hdmi output to connect a bigger display, or at least a zoom function like on ps5.
I dont have one myself but it is making me consider buying it. I dont intend to use it for cloud gaming but now that it has more features I might consider it. However, if there is a certain game I want to play that is on there I might be more willing to play it and for a bit of a cheaper price.
I don't think they will ever offer that, that's why the Portal exist in the first place, to remote play your games from the PS5. Stream your own library direct from PlayStation is a completely different beast.
@@fleejuuheard6904well, I do not think that will be much different in the future. However, games you bought digitally will be able to play via cloud gaming at some point.
Ive always told myself if they were to allow streaming to the portal I would finally get a 2tb ssd to install games more games (Ones that I cant play in the cloud) and then get a portal finally. I do think they should allow you to stream from the cloud to a phone app too, but i get as a business while they would limit it. Plus I wouldnt be shocked if they were able to give a better experience connection wise on their own hardware. Assuming I get one, worst comes to worst I can always return it. Like you already said though, it would be useful if you were away and you're playstation wouldn't turn on or something.
Finally picking up a portal this year.
This is what xbox sees as the future. Streaming with a subscription on many devices and their own handheld.
Loved my portal before and even more now
Looks like I'm buying this for xmas
I was playing demons souls with it and it was running smooth I was actually caught off guard. I have fiber internet so I would assume that helps but yea shits rad, stoked I bought one.
Good. Games will now have to run on lower spec hardware. Maybe last gen can use this interface as well.
@@arianoooamari6949But you don't need a subscription with a switch or Steam deck bringing the prices completely inline.
Haha.
Playing bloodborne, sitting bythe campfire, up at camp, streaming data through my phone, portal was just fine. I agree that playing any online ame the same way is crap. But it was still a nice perk when my switch battery was dead
im buying this asap now
I just got my 30th Anniversary Limited Edition with the new update directly available so lucky me I guess 😅
There are two issues with this though. One of them you mentioned, you need PS Plus Premium. The other is that you need a digital library. This won’t cloud stream your physical collection.
Which is another reason why it's still not worth it if you don't already own a PS5
@@Shadowespeon17If you like buy the ps plus preiium on an account made from sony, you can easily connect it to that account and play games. and if you later buy a ps5 or ps6 when it comes out your save data will be saved. Who knows maybe playstation bring pc, xbox streaming options too
Ps plus premium is very low price on turkey accounts anyway
No digital libaray all lilbraray is made from ps extra pure right now 120 games
Playstation NoW has allowd you to steam your physical games for 10 years. Do you not have a Playstation? Thats literally what the Portal is for, streaming your physical games.
Haven’t played my portal since July. I’ll have to update it and see what’s the update is all about.
Now if only they could fix the mobile hotspot issue in the US
I haven't purchased the Playstation portal yet just because of the fact that you can not swap out the sticks if you get sick drift, which is common with these controllers.
If it makes you feel better the sticks entirely are removable, I haven't seen any aftermarket sticks made yet but they will be easy to replace soon
@@darkwalker19 I hope so🤞🏻. I’m dreading the day where I realize it’s all over for my portal lol.
@@darkwalker19 Well, everything is removable one way or another. ;)
You mean they are on their own separated circuitboards I guess? I seen teardowns but don't remember if they were or not.
@@AltCutTV yup they are their own independent module!
Imagine if they allow us to play PSP and PSV games without internet connection on it!
With this the portal should come with a 5g variant
Bro had to blur out the GameCube logo 💀
When I get to stream or play my own games, I buy. Maybe I will consider my day 1 ps5 running smoothly.
I don't think they will ever offer that, that's why the Portal exist in the first place, to remote play your games from the PS5. Stream your own library direct from PlayStation is a completely different beast.
I would have gotten ps portabl on launch day if i knew they were planning on doing this
This should have been included at the start. Better late than never, I guess!
@@LuccaRPG whoa, watch out guys we have an armchair developer here
You should be able to stream any game you own on it
It doesn’t stream your collection though. It streams from the cloud but not from yours. It’s still great.
They’re working on it. Companies have to change their EULA to allow cloud streaming.
It's Beta, duh.
@@soldier09ryea I’m getting tired of having to change the disc on my ps5 disc version just to play the portal that’s the only corny part about it
@@fleejuuheard6904well, I do not think that will be much different in the future. However, games you bought digitally will be able to play via cloud gaming at some point.
It'd be cool if they added this to the PS Vita...
Legit picking one up tonight by after work lol
Ive always told myself if they were to allow streaming to the portal I would finally get a 2tb ssd to install games more games (Ones that I cant play in the cloud) and then get a portal finally. I do think they should allow you to stream from the cloud to a phone app too, but i get as a business while they would limit it. Plus I wouldnt be shocked if they were able to give a better experience connection wise on their own hardware. Assuming I get one, worst comes to worst I can always return it. Ill probably get it at Costco anyway.
