    When they ruled out the step dad I thought, “s*x trafficking” then “dentist.” It’s sad that we live in a world with so much predatory behavior. Hopefully, storylines like this on TV will cause parents and guardians to be cautious and observant.

      @@RisingTidesACNot only that, but it's also something people are more open to talking about in general. Back in the day, victims were silent because it was taboo to talk about it. Even parents told their kids to keep it to themselves and just deal with it and move on. No therapy, no charges against offenders, nothing.

      Omg I was so scared for my first GYN exam. This is back in the 80's and just turned 16. My mom promised I could drive us home after the appointment. I had myself so stressed I got a migraine and pucked. No driving home for me. I had boys so I was only allowed up to a certain age to go with them. If kids request to go in alone once they reach 14 I think, doesn't matter if parents want to go in or not. I was happy to hand over appointments to my hubby. I can understand why boys at that age wouldn't want mom to hear everything they want to talk to their doctor about.

    They either have a terrible medical consultant, or they don't listen to them.
    If your doctor agrees with your decision not to tell your child they've been assaulted, I'm so sorry. Hopefully, they will know enough to find a behavioral health provider to walk you through that decision. Ultimately, not disclosing will add to the trauma and betrayal.

      I took the key part to be "not today", meaning tomorrow or as soon as she was out of immediate danger. Ultimately, the detective is going to be investigating and he WILL be interviewing her and asking those types of questions.

      How else can a therapist profit from regularly scheduled sessions, if the kid doesn't know they have trauma?

    • @BW022
      @BW022 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@donaldjohnson-y6n WTF? The child was SA'd, has internal bleeding, has a serious STD, will be interviewed by the police, and likely about to be part of a criminal trial, so she's already facing trauma and will do so for the rest of her life. It may cost her ever having a normal sexual relationship, marriage, and children, plus there may be other victims or future victims if this guy isn't stopped. And yet, you are worried about therapy costs?
      If some therapist can keep her from killing herself, drugs, and/or a life of misery, he or she is worth every penny -- which hopefully this dentist and his insurance company will be paying for. I doubt many therapists are ever paid enough to deal with child assault victims and I'd bet the vast majority would rather be paid for listening to an uptight house wife about her social anxiety than this. I doubt most therapists can even handle such cases for long. Ask any social worker or police officer which cases are the worst and I'm betting child assaults likely top the list.

So much liquid and mucous came out I filled a gallon container over said 6 hour period.

One time was when I had to have fluid drained from lungs and the doctor needed to make sure the lungs didn’t collapse and that my O2 levels stabilized. The second time was when I woke up from surgery before they took the tube out. Both times I coughed hard enough that the tube came out. The first time the balloon hadn’t fully deflated yet. That hurt like hell.

      @allisonjames2923 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yes that is complete BS these days. In former years (I guess only 10-20yrs ago though), Drs used to be hesitant about giving pain meds to people with certain conditions (like abdo pain) because the way people respond to the physical examination (rebound tenderness, guarding etc) gives information that can help diagnose a condition. But that type of thinking has gone by the wayside, as having a patient more comfortable helps to diagnose them more accurately & there are other, far more accurate diagnostic tests than pain response these days (like ultrasound, CT scan, blood tests etc.

      Some of those common pain meds can interfere with further emergency surgery and putting them under….think heart rate, breathing, kidney, liver and brain responses….a little more complicated if they find they have to go in stat…until the quick test results, they can crisscross that unknown drug or cause more damage if an organ is involved…..

    Intubation for those who haven’t had it done it sucks when you’re awake but also higher than a kite because the doctors want you relaxed as possible so you don’t end up ripping it out because they don’t just put a tube down your throat and call it done, they literally put the tube down your throat and past your vocal chords and they inflate a tiny balloon once it’s at the right spot preventing you from pulling it out and if you tried I’m sure it would hurt and you’d do damage to your throat and whatnot so they have to keep you either in a medically induced coma or light sedation so you’re more tired and not worried about a tube down your throat but I tell you the recovery time for mine was hell because I ended up losing temporary control over my vocal chords and couldn’t speak and on top of that after I got out the hospital I was due to start psychical therapy and speech therapy but I was also later scheduled for my appointments for chemo and radiation which made everything worse!

      It’s very rare that medics will do a “cold intubation” (one without sedation/paralytics), particularly on a patient who isn’t in cardiac arrest or very close to it. I can guarantee that no Dr in a first world country would do a cold tube on a patient like this, because even if she was unconscious at the time & seemed “floppy”, that doesn’t mean that her larynx was unresponsive to the touch of the laryngoscope & the resultant laryngeal spasm could block her airway & prevent her from breathing. That’s why medics use paralytics (to prevent laryngospasm/choking/coughing etc) AND sedatives/painkillers to make the procedure bearable & so the patient can’t feel the tube & other instruments. When they extubate someone though (take the tube out), it can be uncomfortable as those drugs will wear off & trigger the coughing reflex as you “cough out” the tube & breathe for yourself again.
