BEST Peking Duck in New York! $140 Peking Duck With Caviar?!

- I LOVE Peking Duck, it's one of my all time favorite foods. The crispy melt in your mouth skin, the amazing juiciness of the meat wrapped up in that chewy thin crepe with fresh veggies and sauce creates a delicious meaty crunchy combo that is unmatched.
There has been a lot of new restaurants in New York City that has begun serving Peking Duck, so I decided to try them out. For this video I went to Elaine's Asian Bistro in Long Island, DaDong, which is a Michelin Starred restaurant from China, Decoy and some roast duck from Wah Fung my favorite Chinese BBQ place in New York.
For some reason, the Decoy video footage was lost, I really have no idea how that happened but it was just gone. Personally, I did not enjoy eating there. First of all, if you want to have the duck it takes some effort. You either have to book a reservation which will subject you and everyone you're dining with to a mandatory $75 per person set meal and this could mean up to 5-6 people sharing one duck and for $75 per person that is outrageous. If you want to just eat their duck on its own, then you have to show up right as they open at 5 and ask if they have an extra one laying around. Seriously. If they don't then no duck for you. For the sake of getting this right, I went twice and the first time the duck was not bad, skin was mostly crispy and tasty, the duck meat was juicy and the sauces they give you are great. But the second time the skin was chewy and tough, not very consistent. So for all the hassle and price, I don't recommend this place.
Da Dong, as I mentioned, the skin will be the best you'll ever have on a Peking duck. EXTREMELY amazing, but the duck meat is dry and tasteless.
Elaine's is my go to Peking Duck place but located a bit outside of the city.

I can tell you didn't care much for the 2nd restaurant Peking duck skin or caviar. Seems like a hype restaurant all talk price high and no taste. The usual hype restaurant prices no taste food.
Can you do also an expose on roast duck places and how they're always giving me the weird boney pieces even when i order half a duck in chinese? what is it about me? where do the good meaty pieces go? lol and it's my favorite food too :(
Moxie Beast ASMR omg the place I go to give us all the gristly pieces that you can’t really eat and no meat. Like you said.. what the hell are they doing with the meat of that piece😂
most meaty part is the leg/thigh (op-bay) of the duck. but they usually charge like a dollar or two extra for just that part.
when you order half a duck you can ask them to keep it whole and not chop it up, then you'll see the entire half.
you can also order a duck leg.. which is a quarter duck and is the thigh & leg.. they will still chop it up, but it will be in the general shape with it comes to your table.
Thank you for mentioning the opulence and refinement of Peking Duck and how the incredible skin is the focal point of the dish, as compared with regular roast duck that you can get in Chinatown (in San Francisco where I am). Peking Duck is indeed fine dining.

Bottom line of the video, don't buy Pecking Duck in New York, they can't properly make it, and you'll be grossly overcharged for it..isn't it amazing how ethnic food in America is never even close to be the same as in the origin country, same with Italian, Japanese, Indian etc...

Too funny, "water braised peanuts" aka boiled peanuts here in the South. Made me chuckle. I actually had Peking duck in Beijing, aka Peking, it was amazing.
I tried 3 different peking duck restaurants in Beijing and found them all so dry tasteless and totally underwhelming compared to the peking duck available at premium Hong Kong Cantonese restaurants in Singapore, which ducks are crispy yet juicy, and the meat can be cooked in a variety of ways, not just the two you mentioned.
You should try Fresh duck in Korea! There's a place called Canaan Duck that serves duck Korean BBQ style!

my masochist self watching this in a place with only my sad home-made attempts available ... torture by food porn ... with childhood memories of Peking Duck at Kee Joon's in Burlingame, CA. The fact that my parents could afford to take us there on special occasions amazes me to this day...now, when the middle-class is destroyed. My most recent attempt failed at the crispy skin --- duh, I should not have put a liquid in the beer-can vertical roaster.

Nope the best is in Las Vegas at the Aria hotel. The restaurant is called the blossom and I saw 2o+ Peking duck go out including mine. It was $100.00 bucks and they gave me the rest of the wonderfull duck meat to have. Bloody FANTASTIC.

Hey Mike--I know Peking Duck quite well. Best Peking Duck anywhere is Mr. Chow on East 57th Street. When you make the reservation, tell them you are having the Peking Duck. It will blow you away!!! If you want to know how to structure your gourmet meal, let me know. There are 3 parts to a dinner at Mr. Chow--one of the great Manhattan restaurants.
100 dollar duck goddamn and its not worth. In my opinion the first one was more worth your time and experience. They focus on the ENTIRE DUCK and not just one part which is amazing unlike the second one.

I love Peking Duck, but I have to say that duck meat presentation was very poor and messy.
Also that "crepe" aka pancake looks strange, its suppose to be very thin and not have bits of burned areas. Must be a US thing?
Unlike a certain Mr. Wiens, I appreciate that you are able to criticise the food you eat. Da Dong is great in Beijing, highly doubt it is quite as good value for money in New York.
I just remembered Peking duck doesn’t use hoisin sauce, it’s tian mian jiang that’s used in northeastern cuisine
If you ever come to the dc/ dmv area, you should really try the “Peking gourmet” it is, fantastic, authentic, Chinese food. I’d like to get your opinion
How about quan ji de in Beijing, do they have outlets there in the US as well? BTW quan ji de has very good Peking duck. You should try that if you go to beijing
I don't understand why you have to pay an extra $10 for the salt and pepper duck when the duck in the dish is what you paid for when purchasing the Peking duck in the first place. Seems redundant.

The dark sauce to eat with peking duck is the sweet bean sauce (甜面酱) not hoisin sauce(海鲜酱)....
